Spider-Man It was a strange experience to have money at Christmas. Peter Parker had never had money at Christmas. And truth be told, he didn't have it this time either. But he was living with a woman who did, and so when it came time to decorating, there seemed to be a wealth of items. Unpacking them from the storage locker in the basement, Peter had been ferrying them up to their apartment, and finally had them all up.

He had already opened up a few, and was in the process of putting them up. The artificial tree was still in a bag, ready to be unpacked and decorated, but he was concentrating on other things, a little Snowman here, a wreath there, tinsel, and such. Peter was wearing a very Christmas-y shirt, but it had a geeky flare to it. It was grey and red, with the usual Christmas trees, stars, patterns, one of those 'ugly Christmas sweater', but had Mario, Bowser, and some characters from Super Nintendo.
Psylocke Betsy loved Christmas. She loved decorating for the holiday. Thus, she had been spending a lot of money buying things and tucking them in the storage locker. Unbeknownst to Peter. Until today when they had opted to decorate.

There had been a lot of boxes.

He took it in stride though and that made her even happier. She opened a box and realized it was full of a variety of ornaments. She wasn't sure what he would like so she'd bought all sorts. They could pick and choose what they wanted to use. Closing the top and folding in the cardboard flaps, she moved to the next box. Inside was a train set for around the bottom of the tree. That too would wait for the tree to be erected.

She was dressed in a cream colored sweater which was long, falling almost to her thighs. A pair of yoga pants covered her lower body. Her feet were bare and her hair was down.

The next box she found a pair of stockings amongst the decorations and held them up, eyeing them critically. "I didn't think about it. We need a fireplace. I think they sell those portable ones. What do you think?" She held up the pair of red and white stockings to show why the need.
Spider-Man Peter was good about taking things in stride. He loved her. Loved being with her. But they were from different worlds. She was the daughter of a British Lord, and he was an orphan from Queens. Sure, Queens was in the title, but there was a big gap between her world and his, no matter what it was called. He smiled at the sight of the train. "Awe, that looks great." He found some stuffed animals, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Olaf, all in Christmas outfits, and below that, what looked like a stocking for the sink, to turn it into a candy cane like thing. But he didn't know that. Looking at it, he asked, "what's this one for?" He was genuinely perplexed as he played with it.

Psylocke Glancing up from pulling out a variety of little village houses and shops for a little winter wonderland she planned to put on the table near the front door, she smiled. "Kitchen sink. It goes over the faucet." She'd gotten him to install the taller, gooseneck fixutre less than a month before. It was going to look so perfect. She reached over a hand to show him how it would sit so he could see the candy cane effect then leaned in to give him a quick kiss. "Somewhere in here are decorations for all the kitchen cabinets too."

It was going to look like Christmas in every single room by the time she was done.
Spider-Man Peter shook his head and laughed, but kissed her back, "Betsy, you're something else. What's next, dressing up like elves too?" But he was smiling, so, he thought she was going overboard, but he was fine with it. It was her money, and if she wanted to spend it this way, he'd enjoy the benefit. But really, he'd be happy with her if they were living under a bridge, because they'd be together. This was nice though.

He went about installing the candy cane thing for the faucet, and then found some of those boxes that decorated the cabinetry, and began to slip them in, on, or however they attached. Already the place was starting to look like Santa's Workshop, and the music in the background, a Christmas album, didn't hurt.
Psylocke At the comment about dressing like elves, Betsy just smiled and quickly moved to open another box. She didn't answer. But the fact she moved away quickly probably should be setting off warning bells for him. Not Spidey Sence but simply that she was probably going to do just that.

As she set up the little village by the door, complete with laid out cotton 'snow', she was humming along with the music. "You haven't told me what you want for Christmas yet," she pointed out.

The decorations in the kitchen included little elves on strings that hung from the cabinet handles. Cling-ees with various Christmas images that stuck to the doors. There were even strands of garland or lights, depending on which he might want to put up either around the top of the cabinets or the door. Maybe one for each. That had been her original thought at least.
Spider-Man "All I want for Christmas is you," Peter quickly responded, without even a moment's hesitation. It wasn't glib or anything, just the way he felt. He kept up with the kitchen, and when he ran out of things to put up, he went back for the boxes, finding new bulbs for the lamps and lights in the ceiling that would make it look like it was sparkling and rotating. Doing a leap, he clung to the ceiling, while holding the bulbs. He began to undo it, the kind of thing most people would need a ladder for, but he could do is so much easier. Once replaced, the bulbs glittered and rotated, making the floor look sort of like it was snowing, the way the light moved. Leaping down, he gave her a quick peck on the cheek, "love you."
Psylocke "I love you more," Betsy responded as she slipped her arm around his waist briefly. She looked at the effect from the light and let out a delighted laugh. "I was so afraid it was going to look cheesy but it's beautiful!" She gave him a little squeeze then motioned to the stockings. "We could just stick them on the wall I suppose." Moving that way, she picked them up again and walked over to a wall near the bedroom door. She placed them beside each other but one a little higher and the other a little lower. Then she went back to the question at hand. "You already have me. You have to want something!"
Spider-Man Peter blushed at her response, and laughed at the suggestion of sticking them to the wall, "yeah, but after an hour, they'd fall off." Webbing was very useful, but temporary. "Hmm, something nice for my Aunt maybe, or a donation in my name to a good cause?" Peter always thought of others, or tried to. Really, he had everything he wanted. He had a good life, good friends, used his powers to help others. He was happy. And he was never the most materialistic of people. "What do I want for Christmas... hmm. Well, an incubator might be nice? You can probably get a great deal on Craigslist"
Psylocke "I didn't mean you sticking them to the wall," Betsy says with a giggle. "I meant like a nail and hammer. Or those strip things that aren't supposed to mess up the paint when you pull them down later." She sets the stockings aside again and walks over to the tree, wondering if she is ready to tackle that one yet.

"An incubator?" She turns to look at him, brows up high in surprise. "What do you need an incubator for? We are not keeping chickens in the apartment."
Spider-Man "Do those things work? I've always wondered." They never bought them when he was growing up, so he didn't know. But he was curious. As for the incubator, he chuckles, "not a poultry incubator, but a culture incubator. It grows germs and really useful for cell biology, microbiology, and molecular biology. The good ones can raise and lower the temperate at preset intervals, maintain the CO2 levels, humidity, it's far more useful than I'm probably making it sound." His eyes lit up as he was describing it and its uses, but most of it was so far on the nerd scale, it wasn't even funny.
Psylocke It was good to know there was no poultry involved. Germs didn't sound much better but the way he got all earnest and leaned in, eyes lighting up that way. There was no way Betsy could miss it, even if she weren't so in tune with him. As it was, she knew she was going to have to do some research and buy an incubator for his present. Unfortunately, she had no idea what was the best option for him. Then a thought came to mind and she knew she had it well in hand. She'd just ask her fellow X-Man and scientific sort, Hank. He'd get her on the right track.

"Promise not to grow anything that's going to turn us all into zombies?"
Spider-Man "Do you really want to live in a zombie-free world? Can you call that living?" And suddenly his eyes lit up some more, "can we watch the Cornetto Trilogy sometime soon?" He was of course referring to Edgar Wright's trilogy, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and the World's End, so named Cornetto Trilogy because each film included a different colour of cornetto, which was also associated with the film's theme. Strawberry for Shaun of the Dead and its bloody and gory elements, blue for Hot Fuzz and its police element, and mint chocolate for the World's End and its alien element.
Psylocke Betsy laughs. "Not quite Rudolph or Frosty but I have to agree they are fun. Yeah, we can watch them after we get the tree up. Have some hot chocolate and settle in?" she suggests as she starts to unbag the tree. Between the two of them, it shouldn't take too long hopefully. The tree isn't very tall. After all, the apartment doesn't have cathedral ceilings or the like. But it's cute and perfect. They have lights and more ornaments than they will actually use.

But the most important question has not be answered. "Tinsel on a Christmas tree or no?" It might be the end of their relationship if it's the wrong answer.
Spider-Man "If you wanted to watch Christmas movies, what about Love, Actually, the Holiday, and Arthur Christmas. Those are my favourite ones. Been watching them every Christmas for years." He helps her with the tree, even if it's not that big, because they do everything together. Looking to at that question, he gulps, sensing the dreaded question, "um... no tinsel, only balls on string?" Was that the right one? Or does he have a lot of relationship repair work ahead of him?
Psylocke That earns a kiss. Betsy smiles as she leans back from that momentary brush of their lips together. "You have chosen wisely. Tinsel just gets on everything and falls all over then when you go to put the tree up later, you end up trying to get it out of the branches. It just becomes a horrible mess." She does tend to like neat as he has learned. Not to the neat freak level but she does like things in their right spots.

"How about we watch the Cornetto Trilogy tonight. Then we can do the others the rest of the week, one a night?"
Spider-Man "That sounds great, though I do have to patrol, so, one movie every other night sounds good. It's usually quieter in December anyway. Even the bad guys don't like to go out in the snow." And he is amazed at how she manages to wear her customary uniform in that weather. She must have mutant heating or something.
Psylocke With the right mental training, it's an easy matter to control her body temperature. Betsy doesn't even think about it as she goes abour their patrols. Of course, half the time she is between this realm and the shadow world where her Crimson Dawn powers connect. "One movie every other night it is. But I do have to see Miracle or 34th Street. The original non-colorized version. I can't deal with the bad colorization they did to it. Poor Santa ended up with blue hair. Literally. It's awful."

Once they have the tree branches set just so, she pulls out the strings of light that are not a horrible jumble yet since they are brand new. She offers one end to Peter so they can work together to feed them up and around the branches.
Spider-Man "Personally, I like non-traditional colours." Like her hair, "And maybe that year, there was a Jewish Santa?" Okay, that didn't make sense, and wasn't too funny, but there were a lot of Santa-like things popping up in blue and white, with a Star of David these days as people wanted to join in on the fun. He takes the end, and works with her to put up the lights. It's a pretty quick process with two highly coordinated people. At one point during a pass to put on some baubles, he gives her a gentle squeeze, and tickles a little, before going back to the work of putting up the tree.
Psylocke "Well obviously I do as well." Since it's her hair. "But that was just too much to take. Original black and white version. The remake is good too but there is something so charming about the first." She giggles at his tickling but soon they are hanging ornaments, discussing which they like or don't. They end up with quite a few Disney ornaments on the tree since they both agree they are too cute to stay in the boxes. One of her favorits is Stitch in a Santa hat which she places front and center so they will be able to see it when they are sitting on the couch. An Eeyore with a wreath around his neck and an uncharacteristic smile is hung close to the Stitch.

Then it comes time for the topper.
Spider-Man Peter looks at the topper and grins, "awe, so cute." He leaps up, easier to do that from up top, walking on his feet, but upside down. He places the topper on, which hooks on to the stem twice. The light is a simple eight sided star, which lights up. But the really neat thing is that there's a metal arm, with Tinkerbell on it, that rotates around the tree. At the end of that metal arm, there is a sleigh, driven by Santa Mickey, pulled by Pluto and a few reindeer. In the back, there are all kinds of toys, Pinochio, Winnie the Pooh, and others. It's absolutely adorable.
