Tim Drake     Up top on one of the bridges linking Gotham to New York, situated there in the wind, high enough that the ocean air cleans the stink of the city below is a red clad young man.

He isn't going to wait. Sitting on the side, looking East out towards the slowly lightening skies, its a late night for him turning into an early morning. The burger shop is always amused when masked face slants in through the drive thru window. he always pays with cash. Why here?

Because up here, he has stashed a cooler to keep food warm when he he has it, and a couple of drinks semi cool if he needs them later. Hydration is important some nights.

Tim Drake is already smiling, first because these are killer burgers, but second because he just doesn't get to see his friend enough. The wind is a little cold, and its late enough Batman might loom at him, but contacts are important. Friendship, is important. He's sitting on his hooded cape, and the wind is enough the heavy hood will not remain up. His hair is wind tossed, but he just gnoshes on the burger and waits rather happily. Sometimes kicking his feet as he sits.
Conner Hey, it is not Conner's fault if Tim is always too busy saving the world when he tries to find him. Last time he was surely fighting ninjas in Mongolia (not really - but it sounded cool when he said so to Batgirl).

Besides, Conner is now going to college. Yes, a sign of the End Times. After all his brief stint in high school ended when the school was blown up by angry alien women. Don't ask. Knockout might have been involved.

Still, it is Christmas break, so he does have plenty of time. "Hey Rob? Good to see you, man," he greets, coming by air from New York direction. "Do I smell a burger? Did I tell you I got enhanced senses now?"
Tim Drake     "In the cooler buddy." Robin considers. "I ordered the way you like it. Or rather the way you said you like it." He gets up and wraps the foil over his half a burger. After using a wet wipe to clean his fingers (It's in the belt. Do not hate on the belt!) he offers his hand with a wry grin. "It's good to see you. Thanks for coming. I know I suck at being anyone's friend. I know I bail on like half the things we try to do. I appreciate you understanding." Robin says it awkwardly. He lets that awkward linger just long enough for his friend to know he means it before he asks in an earnest tone, "Enhanced senses? How enhanced? We talking blood hound? Or more like Superman's? Any chance of getting Superwoman to sign a poster for the other Robin?"

When Conner goes after the burger, there is something else in the cooler. About the size of a shoebox, and precisely, even meticulously wrapped. Even the bow was done by hand, the ribbon curled with a pencil after it was cut.

The wrapping paper is a print of Santa Claus opening his red suit to reveal a certain famous shield. "Merry Christmas." Robin says warmly.
Conner "That is fine, Rob. The never-ending struggle and all that," Conner lands and checks the cooler. "Like Superman, I guess. I have not made comparisons, but I can hear heartbeats, and read a newspaper from a hundred feet and things like that. I should check with Kal, but I have not talked with him since... welp, almost a year already."

He feels a little guilty for that. But hey, it is not as if the older Kryptonian has even tried. He feels a little unloved/angsty about that, too. "I have no idea who is Superwoman," he admits, grabbing the burger and discovering the gifts. "Hey, thanks! Maybe we should do something Christmastic for... uh, but I have lost track of the old gang." He munches the burger to avoid thinking about it.
Tim Drake     "That isn't..." Robin pulls in a breath. He takes a moment to think and calculate a response. "Kind of like there being a new Robin." he says after a moment. "The world is always changing, and we're growing up. The problem is, our mentors, our father figures? They're busy men. I'm sorry, man. I really am. Batman and I? We argue. He raised me to not back down, and I don't. But I know that this." he points at the stylized 'R' on his outfit. "It means he's got my back. Do you still think that your shield means that? If so? Go talk to him. His moral compass, his code, it has to include something about mentoring. If not?"

He cannot believe he is about to say this. "**** him." He almost flinches at saying it. "Hook up with Manhunter, or someone, and hone your abilities. You re already your own man. And you're a good one. If Big Blue cannot see that, well then, his senses are duller than mine." He starts to unwrap the foil on his burger as he grins at his friend.

"Please don't tell him I said that?" He finishes lamely.
Conner "Nah, he is busy," replies Conner. "He has to save the world every week and he has real family," Conner is like the half-brother no one expected or wanted, after all. "And, hmm, Batman," no. He would pick Kal over Batman any day. "I have been doing my stuff here for months now. I met Gar, briefly. But mostly on my own. Then helping with the alien attacks. Man, that was bad. Then college and I made some friends but they don't know who I am."

He shakes his head, takes another bite to the burger and glances at Robin. Okay no. Red Robin. "So, what have you been up to. I met Batgirl the other day. But I heard there was another Batgirl, more dark-y, younger too."
Tim Drake     "Awright." Red Robin replies. "But, dude. You are his family. You don't get to pick family." He might be thinking of a certain usurping little Wayne when he says that, "But you still have to respect them, and be respected by them. Times change. Friends, well, we grow apart." he says that with great reluctance. "Ties that bind like that? They have to be kept up. Like a talk. A burger."

After a thoughtful bite and careful chewing, he decides. "Family you can't get rid of. And you miss it when its gone. Be the better man, and just include yourself in his life. If he's the guy you say he is, trust me. He'll thank you. You're a brother worth having. Trust me. I have a younger half brother foisted on me. I'm also the younger half brother foisted on others." He quirks an expressive brow. "I'm kind of an expert." His grins is wide, a little lop-sided, and his tone is absolutely self-mocking.
Conner "The new Robin?" Conner grunts. Being replaced must suck. See? Reason 187 not to like Batman. Replacing Tim? Crazy talk. But Conner knows he should still pay attention to Tim's words, he is the smart one, after all. Maybe he will call Kal for Christmas and... what do Kryptonians do for Christmas. He needs a gift. And forget about the college party, too. No biggie.

"I guess there are a lot of batpeople in Gotham right now. But you are not really related to each other, are you?" He muses. "The Kryptonians are a bit different. Although I don't know who is Superwoman. Maybe she is not even a Kryptonian."
Tim Drake     "it' complicated." Tim answers his friend in a warm tone. "Everything on that side is complicated. Some things, just aren't mine to tell. Blood is thicker than water, right? Well, sometimes blood spilt together is just as thick as blood in the veins." He is trying to talk about feelings, and he's not always the best at that. They tend to just bubble out of him rather than come out measured and sure. "they are my brothers. Even the younger one who replaced me. We spat. We argue, but if anyone were to hurt him?" The tone there verges on ugly by the end of that thought. "He is a pain, but he's my pain. I am sure the other Robins feel the same way about me. At least, I hope they do," His grin is wan, but still tilted in that self-mocking manner.

He is quiet a moment. "You met Batgirl? She's amazing isn't she? I have to say this though, she's like my sister, you better treat her like a lady."
Conner "Uh huh," replies Conner the skeptic at all that talk about brothers that are complicated. Batman has an army of kids or something. Some of which are all grown up. He will be first to admit Nightwing is cool, though.

And that Batgirl. "Eh... she seems pretty smart. Made a few questions about what I am doing right now. Nice to see someone finds my studies interesting. Then again maybe Batman has a database with what everyone does and eats and thinks." He glances to the burger and devours what is left of it in two more bites. Yes, Batman take not of that!

"Anyway," he swallows. "Pretty smart. Asked me about Krytonian tech. Recommended me to study world politics in college so I know where I am getting when I go super-heroicing to foreign counties. Reminded me to you. She had great legs too, although I think she must be mid-twenties."
Tim Drake     "If I could divorce myself from the fact that, ew, dude, that is my sister, I would totally agree that she is a gorgeous woman. Even more so when you take the mask off." Tim Drake is speaking very carefully here. "That being said, she taught me almost as much as the Big, Bad, Bat did. She is family to me in a way that all the others aren't. I mean, I have three brothers. Two Dads, and the most amazing grandfather in the world. But."

"She is totally my only sister, and I don't think of her that way, even if she has totally ruined for other women." A hard admission. "No one measures up to her example." He considers. "Have you spoken with Supergirl? I guess." He rubs at the back of his neck, obviously struggling for a moment. "I lost my mom and dad, man. My baggage. My pain. I was lucky. I got another one in return. One I would not betray or leave for anything. I... it pains me that you have family and you aren't a part of it." The admission obviously saps him of some mental fortitude. "I hurt for you. They are missing out on one of my favorite people."
Conner Conner laughs at Tim's reaction. Although he sobers up when he brings up his dead parents. That is a serious matter, although having parents is an unknown experience for Conner. "I have not talked with Ka... Supergirl for a while." Beat. "But if you want her telephone number, I can always ask, or find out somehow. She is petty great. Beautiful too."

Too much talk about family. It must be Christmas is coming. It will be his third Christmas. As far as he remembers. "You know. I think I will call them both tomorrow."
Tim Drake     "I do not want her number. She has that dude with the pecs following her at all her public appearances now. He looks like the jealous sort. he also looks like the sort of guy who might tear a dude in half is he tried anything. Then again, I am sure if she is the sort of person you are, well, she's probably worth tearing someone in half over." Tim Drake pauses. "Take that in a complimentary manner, but not -too- complimentary. Cannot have things go sideways between us." He grins at Conner. "Though, you are pretty dreamy." he teases his friend with a warm smile.

"You should call your family. They will want to hear from you. If they don't... well, maybe I have three brothers, and a weird cousin who is like a brother, okay?" Yup. He's emotioned out. He's vulnerable, and one doesn't need supervision to see that he starts to finish his own burger in a hurry, mumbling, "Sun is starting to come up." And Robins hate the sun, or something.
Conner Conner arches an eyebrow. Supergirl got a boyfriend? Who would have thunk? And Tim had to come and tell -him- about it. Yes, definitely he needs to make some family phone calls. "Dude. Lets not talk about my love life today and..." uh, it is barely clearing. But yes, Robins are like little Bats and Bats hate sunlight.

"Yeah. And you better get some sleep. I don't sleep much anymore. Which is cool, because it means I have time to study and still do the super-stuff. And college is not so bad if you can do more things than just studying," that might explain how Conner survived the first semester. And the college survived Conner. "Lets meet again soon, okay? Maybe go fight some bad guys."
Tim Drake     "Must be nice. I just have a day where I finally collapse." Red Robin ruefully admits. He tucks the trash aside and readies his launcher. Room for everything on on that belt. He clicks a couple of settings on the launcher and looks at his friend. "Merry Christmas, Conner." He wishes his friend. "Be safe."
