Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell hesitantly steps down the path, eyes trained on the large building before her. She's bundled up in a pair of blankets, presumably to protect her from the cold, but careful eyes could spot bare feet crunching through the snow. Only her face is visible through the blankets, her breath coming out in frigid clouds.

Maya finally reaches the front door. A hand emerges from the blankets. Her knuckles hesitate over the door...and then she knocks.
Dazzler It takes perhaps a minute before someone calls out loudly from the other side of the door. "COMING!" There's muffled commotion, and then the door swings wide. A tall, slender blonde wearing ripped jeans and an open flannel shirt over a concert tee answers the door. She's breathing fast and wearing roller skates.

Alison looks to be somewhere in her 20's and she flashes Maya a wide smile. If Maya's a fan, she might recognize Dazzler from her pop-star years. Or not, given her attire. "Hi there! C'mon in out of the cold."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell takes a step back as the door opens, then takes a moment to size up the other woman. If she recognizes her, she doesn't show it. "Ah...r-right, yeah." The woman's voice is meek and wispy. She carefully steps in, tracking a bit of snow onto the front step. "This is...Xavier's School, right? I got a...sort o-of invitation from Professor Xavier. Ah, hold on..." She shuffles around from within her blankets for a moment, before extending a hand, a card held between her fingers with basic information on the school. Maya's hand, as well as the card, are covered in a light layer of frost.
Dazzler Alison cocks one leg to use the bumper of the skate for stability as she holds the door open. "That's right, yeah." Tilting her head, she looks at the card and her brows knit at the frost on it. "Is it -that- cold outside...?" she muses. "I'm Alison... Miss Blaire. One of the faculty. What's your name, first off? And once you're warm maybe you can tell me why you're here."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell hesitates at the question, then shakes her head. "W-Well, uh...no. I'm, er..." She clears her throat. "I-I'm a...a mutant. And, ah...Maya. My name, I mean. And I'm here to, uh, look around, I guess. See if there's any sort of...help I-I could get?" She shrugs.
Dazzler Alison's expression softens at that and she nods, closing the door. "Well that's what we DO here, Maya. Most of the folks here are mutants... like me. Look around all you want. Stay as long as you want. There are a few rules in the House, mostly involving respect for others." She pauses, then asks. "You hungry? Thirsty?"
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell nods quickly. "Uh, y-yeah, I could...use something to eat, sure. Preferrably something, uh, cold. I can't eat hot food." She takes a deep breath, then, "Would you mind if I put m-my blankets somewhere? It's mostly for...outside, among, uh...non-mutants..."
Dazzler Blonde brows lift at that, and she nods. "Sure thing. Just put 'em on a chair or something for now." Alison replies. "I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the cold doesn't bother you, then? My power is to turn sound energy into light." She smiles wryly and adds. "All the world's a symphony, and I am its speaker."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell smiles weakly, then shuffles out of her blankets and sets them aside. The moment she does, the air around her chills by about ten degrees. She's just wearing a loose, white tanktop, arms left bare, and a pair of simple jeans, no shoes. Anyone else would have frozen to death, wearing what she does. "Uh, no, it...doesn't. My power is controlling and freezing water, s-...so..." She shrugs plainly.
Dazzler Alison nods at that, the smile becoming knowing. "And since humans are mostly water... yeah. I get it." Gesturing towards the kitchen, she pushes off with her toe and slowly glides on one skate. "Most mutants choose, or are given, a code-name. Something that reflects their power. There's no rush, though." She pauses, rolling along at a pace that's easy to keep up with while walking. "I'm Dazzler, like the pop-star." Extending a hand, palm-up, the whole foyer is lit up with moving rainbow lights like a disco.
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell blinks rapidly. "Wh-...No, I-I can't do that t-...Oh! You mean, me? I, uh...I-I guess so." She follows the woman through the halls shuffling along barefoot behind her. "Dazzler?" She repeats, staring at the light show. "That...sounds kind of familiar. Ah, a-and a code-name? Well, I...technically have something, but...isn't it s-supposed to be...secret?"
Dazzler Dazzler laughs at that, shifting her hips to skate slowly backwards now. Apparently she knows the way. "Yeah, I'm -that- Dazzler. Pop-star. Starlet. And I suppose I'm a good example of how NOT to be discrete. Following some bad advice, I 'came out' as a mutant in front of a live, stadium audience. But the whole idea behind a code-name is to protect your real name from non-mutants who'd give you trouble if they knew."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell clears her throat. "Right, yeah. I mean, my code-name is, uh...w-well, it's more something the media and newspapers have been calling me. Or m-my, er...more...disguised form." She hesitates for a moment, before admitting, "I don't, uh...follow music too much. Sorry. I-I probably heard the name a few times, but...ah, th-...that's all. Sorry."
Dazzler Dazzler pauses, brows lifting when she's not recognized. Then she laughs! "Okay, so now I feel old. And I'll talk with the music teacher about making sure a few of my albums are on the required listening list." Wink. "When I'm outside as Dazzler, though, I dress differently. I can use light as a disguise, but I've found that blue eye makeup, a sparkly costume, and pulling my hair into a pompadour usually does the trick. At least before everyone KNEW that Alison Blaire was Dazzler." She pauses, then asks. "So what's the media calling you, Maya? And more importantly, is that how YOU want to be identified?"
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell sighs heavily at the suggested listening, but quickly replies to Dazzler. "Ah, sh-should I really...say so? I mean, then people might know. You know? Isn't it supposed to be a secret?"
Dazzler Alison nods her head. "One of the rules of this House, Maya, is that mutants don't share other mutants' secrets. You ever heard of the saying 'what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas'? It's sort of like that here. So if you tell me your mutant name, I'd only use it outside when you were in your disguised form. You follow me?"
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell closes her eyes and lets out a deep breath, which still comes out in a cold cloud, despite being inside. "Ah, th-...the media's taken to calling me...uh, The Glacier. I can...b-basically freeze myself into, like...a giant ice-golem. If there's enough water, I-I guess."
Dazzler "The Glacier, hmm? That's not bad, as nicknames go. Got kind of an abominable-snowman vibe to it or something." Reaching the kitchen, she pushes the door open and back-skates to hold it for Maya. "Another house rule: if it's in the kitchen, it's fair game. If you wanna keep food for yourself, you keep it in your room."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell chuckles weakly and rubs at the back of her neck. "Ah, k-kind of. I mean, it sort of -is- just a...giant glacier. I-It's, like, ten feet tall, and solid ice, so..." She shrugs and steps closer to the refridgerator, peering inside. "Right, right. Just, uh, keep...y-your room clean, yeah? Vacuuming crumbs, throwing away trash..."
Dazzler Dazzler nods to that, gliding smoothly over to the table to prop herself with a toe-pad again. "Something like that. Common courtesy, like I said." She considers the small teen for a few moments, then asks. "When you change, do you stay yourself? I mean, are you in control of your actions? Some mutant shape-changers end up with multiple personalities."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell is neither small, nor a teen. She's six foot ten, definitely on the tall side, just a little too skinny. She pulls out a tupperware bowl of leftover spaghetti and shuts the door, before rooting around in the drawers for a fork. "Huh? Yeah, I can control it. I mean, I can't, er, speak, because m-my mouth is covered, but...I can kind of gesture..."
Dazzler Alison smiles at that, nodding. "Okay, we'll check that one off the list for starters. No need to be concerned about huge, glacier-shaped creatures roaming the halls at night. I'm assuming your control issues are in other areas, then." She glides over to the fridge and fishes out a bottle of soda. "But there are others on-staff who will be more helpful than I would."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell finally finds a fork and pops the lid off, before spinning the cold noodles onto her fork. "Yeah, it's...I-I can control it. It's just...uh, communicating is...a bit of an issue. I heard there was someone here with other...um, ice-related powers. Do you think I could...talk...to him?" She shoves a wad of spaghetti noodles into her mouth and chews.
Dazzler Dazzler nods to that, taking a sip from the bottle. "Yeah. You'll want to talk with Bobby Drake. Might want to talk to Jean as well. She's one of the resident psychics, and she's good at helping people figure things out."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell nods, then gulps down her food. "Right. I just thought, uh, maybe they could help me gain, ah, just a little bit more control. Like...maybe I could learn to shape ice, or, uh, stretch my...range w-with controlling water. It's only, like, ten feet, max."
Dazzler Dazzler leans her butt against the table, skates rolling lazily back and forth while she drinks. Nodding, she replies. "Yeah, that's definitely a conversation you should have with Bobby or Jean. Or even the Professor. If it were a problem you had with -coping- with your powers or hiding them for some reason, I'd be more help."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell shrugs. "Well, I, uh, I-I wouldn't be surprised if I was found out -eventually-. Like, someone with fire powers o-or, uh, superstrength breaks my Glacier, and...uh, there I am in the middle, you know?"
Dazzler Dazzler smiles at that. "Yeah, some powers are natural opposites. Or some mutants naturally cancel certain powers. For example, I can absorb ridiculously loud noises and light doesn't hurt me. I used to look directly at the sun when I was a little girl."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell snorts lightly. "No eye damage? I-I remember I was on the school bus once when I was a kid, and, uh...this guy behind me didn't believe looking at the sun hurt your eyes. He looked at it for, like...a-a second, then said 'See? That doesn't hurt at all! I'm gonna keep staring at the sun until we get to school!'" She scoffs and starts twirling another bite of cold spaghetti onto her fork.
Dazzler Dazzler shakes her head. "None whatsoever. I'm immune to anything related to light. Sound -can- hurt me if it's loud or sudden enough, but only if I don't absorb it." She chuckles, then adds. "I've watched solar eclipses before. Continuously. But that's coarse use. In my experience the only way you get better with your powers is to use them, like anything else. Can't learn guitar without practice and sore fingers."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell nods and swallows another mouthful. "Yeah, I suppose so. Maybe I should, uh, look into some kind of discreet outfit that, um...traps in cold. During the summer, it's...kind of obvious I-I'm a mutant. You...can, uh, probably feel the cold from over there, eheh..." She sighs, then shoves another bite into her mouth.
Dazzler Alison nods to that, sipping again. "I can, yeah. Feels like an air conditioner running full blast. And we have a few mutants that require special costumes to help with their control, so the Professor has some experience with that." She pauses to flash another smile. "But don't sweat it, Maya. You're among friends now."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell smiles faintly. "...Thank you. Um, is there anything else I need to do to...apply, or...?" Finished with the spaghetti, she sets the bowl and fork in the sink. "I-I mean, if...you're accepting new people..."
Dazzler Dazzler gestures with the nearly-empty soda bottle. "You've got one of the Professor's cards, so that's good enough for me. I can also feel the cold you put out into the room. Consider this a successful interview. So unless you're still hungry, we can go find you a room."
Maya Caldwell Maya Caldwell gasps lightly and straightens up. "Wh-Really? I-I th-...I, um...okay, s-sure, yeah." She chuckles lightly and brushes a lock of dark hair out of her face. "Yeah, l-let's...go do that."
Dazzler Dazzler skates lazily towards the door. "C'mon, then. We'll hook you up with a temporary student pass that'll get you into the dorm and the school itself. And you'll want to meet some of the other staff as well. Don't be shy about introducing yourself to other students, either."
