Tony Stark Tony has been by a few times already. But Rhodey hasn't been in a chatty state. Surgery does that. Which has led to some frustration from Stark, but he wasn't too hard to drive off, with assured statements that he'd be updated if there were changes. Tony distracted himself getting Lila, the child, set up, although he only briefly spoke to her himself. There were professionals far better at that available at SHIELD.

Tony cleaned up, coming out of the armor, but immediately got a notification that Rhodey was awake and stable. Tony went to the infirmary right away, requesting an update on Rhodey's status, and was quickly pointed to the new recovery room. Tony arrives in the door, pushing it open with a palm, and then finally strides in, taking stock of the state of his friend.

"Good of you to wake up. I was gettin' bored," Tony teases, approaching.
War Machine      Rhodes looks one hell of a lot better then he did the last time Tony had seen him. He's dressed in his hospital gown, and tapping away on a cellphone when Tony comes in. He tries to offer a smile but it's obviously a bit forced. On the bright side he's at least responsive now the painkillers have mostly warn off from earlier. "Hey, Tony, glad to see you didn't run off soon as you found out I wasn't going up to that big hanger in the sky." He jokes with that bit of a smile turned smirk.

Adjusting his positioning on the bed it's clear he's in a bit of pain from his motion, but luckally he's far from tearing his stitching. "Gotta say man it's a wonder what they can do with modern tech, they rebuilt my entire GI tract and the spine for me while I was out." He shakes his head. "Next thing you know they'll be bringing people back from the dead frankenstein style." He chuckles a bit putting his phone beside him on the small cart. A low sigh escapes his lips. "Really fucked up big this time man."
Tony Stark Tony snares the visitor chair, and flips it around to sit on it backwards next to the bed. "Well, I'll level with you. It's not /good/," Tony agrees. If Rhodey expected a comforting presence, he needs to really get some new friends. "But, it could've been a lot worse, and we're seeing what patch job can be made of the whole thing," Tony answers. He studies Rhodey. And then around the room: easier to look at the room, really. And evading the topic of, say, the person that died. That elephant won't be something Tony will bring up. But the enemies? Yeah. "We got one of the thugs, he's in interrogation, and we'll get the other." A darkened promise to that tone.
War Machine      The recovery room is fairly nice all things being as they are. Nice soothing colors on the wall, soft musac drifting through the air to keep him from getting too bored out of his skull. There's even fake window simulating a bright and sunny day on one wall of the room. It's all in all not the worst hospital either of them have ever been in, there's even a flat screen on the wall.

"Next time remind me to leave the improv to you." He adds, watching Tony look about the room after a long moment of silence. He stretches slightly still not quite used to not being able to be up and about walking around. "Well whoever he is he's just lucky I'm stuck in this bed, not sure he'd be walking anywhere if I got my hands on him." He's trying to keep it light enough but there's definitely a good bit of emotion bubbling under the surface. "How's Jeanette?" The question Tony probably was hoping to avoid. "I keep asking what's going on with her but the nurses keep stonewalling me."
Tony Stark Tony doesn't sugar coat things, but he doesn't like this situation either. He scratches a little bit at the side of his left eyebrow, making a slight face. Rhodey will read all of those signals loud and clear: this is very bad. Tony clears his throat once, looking around the room a little more, and then finally back to Rhodey's eyes directly. "She didn't make it, James," Tony says, in a lower voice.
War Machine      There's a definite moment where Rhodey's hopeful in spite of himself. That moment winds up shattered fast. His shoulder slump down just enough to be noticeable, he basically deflates on the spot. His head goes into his hands and he can't really say much for a few moments. There's no tears from the man, but it's clear that he's not exactly emotionally stable on the whole issue. "I should have been there for her." He finally says after a long silence. "Should have gone to you the second the calls came in and I realized something was wrong." He just stays hunched over like that looking into the palms of his hands. "Instead I got caught up in everything else: Vegas, The Rising Tide, that Convoy attack, anything else other then helping my sister." He just shakes his head.
Tony Stark Tony looks down at his hands, clears his throat again. He's not good at this at all, but he's giving it a good best effort here. "You couldn't've known. It wasn't all that suspicious at first." That's probably not helping. "You helped Lila. She's out of there, and safe now," Tony answers.

"Try and focus on healing: and getting these bastards back--- and Lila," Tony suggests, with some venom in his tone. "At least for now." The mourn will come. But then, this is more how Tony reacts to things, so it is his style of dealing with it.
War Machine      Rhodey lets out all the air in his lungs in a low sigh of relief at that news. The kid was alright. That was a bright spot in this whole mess. "You're right." He says finally looking up from his hands allowing them to rest back at his side. There's a long moments thought. "She wasn't going to have anything good staying there anyway." He rubs the front of his forehead with two fingers trying to piece is all together. "Tony." He's not sure how to say this next part. "I'm going to kill the man who did this." There's a fire in his eyes as he looks up to Tony. "I need your help to make it happen" He pauses. "I wasn't strong enough before wasn't fast enough either," Speaking from the heart. "I need your help to pay him back for everything he just did."
Tony Stark "As if I'd just walk away?" Tony asks, incredulous. He nods just a little bit, dark eyes firm. Of course Tony's in. "Pretty sure between SHIELD, Avengers, and much less /me/, they're going to have some VERY bad days," Tony adds, with a smile that isn't particularly nice. "So /you/ have to get up and running again. You do that, while we do all this tedious research."
War Machine      Rhodey holds up his fist out towards Tony. A low nod of his head and a slight smile of his own. "They have no idea who they just pissed off." As he moves in for a fistbump. "Know you won't go letting me down on this Tony."
Tony Stark "Pretty sure they do now. They won't get much sleep," Tony says with a narrow little smirk. Attracting Avenger attention rarely goes well for others, after all. He returns the fist bump immediately. "Do I ever?"
