Bennett When Irma accepts his gesture of sharing despite the fact that those chips were, just a moment ago, in the trash, Bennett's smile widens and reaches those odd black eyes. "You may pet one of them. They do so love having their cheeks scratched," he explains. Is he seeing just how far Irma is willing to go? Testing just how accepting she might be? It's possible. Everything about him, from his mannerisms to that 'Gone with the Wind' down South accent is in direct conflict with his appearance. "I promise, they will do you no harm." But then the girl gets a call or something of that nature and disappears into the crowd to find a more quiet place to answer it.

"You're free to come and go as you please," Bennett replies to Caim. "Much the same as the rats, I would reckon," he adds quietly.
Caim     Caim just shrugs as he looks to the man. "I am curious as to how you are able to make the rats like this. How many rats do you have trained?" He asks curiously as he watches the crowd and then the rats once more.
Bennett "They're not trained," Bennett replies. "They're my friends." That last bit is spoken with real and heartfelt sincerity. He really and truly thinks of those rodents as 'friends'. ...and from the way the one on his knee has settled into grooming Bennett's hand? Well, it looks like the feeling is mutual. That little bugger is going to town, licking skin and gently nibbling at fingernails and cuticles.
Caim     "Interesting." Kaydin says as he watches the rat. "Most interesting. I would say it is a gift to have them love you and you love them. Such a gift could be useful. If you need help training your gifts I can see about helping you, if you dont mind the help." He says as he watches the man.
Bennett "Well, as much as I do appreciate the offer, there really isn't much training to be done. I respect them, they respect me. I call, they come. I ask they do. It's simple really." Bennett's explanation is direct and vague at the same time. He skipped over the bit about how he calls them. "Useful for what exactly? The companionship they offer is more than enough 'usefulness' for me." In a reversal over roles, he moves stritches and rubs the chin of the little fellow that was just grooming his hand. The rat bruxes - a grinding of the teeth - happily and loudly.
Caim     Caim watches the man and he hmms. "I see." Caim says as he watches him. "Probably a mutant then. Still if you ever want to be normal I can help you." Caim says as he leans on his cane. "Whats your name?" He asks curiously as he studies the man.
Bennett Bennett snorts back a laugh. "Normal? What exactly is your definition of normal?" Perhaps he's a little amused by the question, but his question is sincere enough. "My name's Ben." He puts what's left of the meal he plucked from the trash under the bench for the rats. "No living person has the right to tell another that they're abnormal," he adds. He doesn't so much sound angry. He sounds... disappointed. "Changing into something I am not would not make me 'normal', it would simply make me... something I am not."
Caim     "Some regret the gifts we have been given. and some wish to be like others. Mutants are the next stage of human evolution. And some have abilities which hinder them." Caim says calmly as he studies the man. "I can also help people become more then they are. My abilities revolve around cells and the body. I can even cure diseases and radiation should you or your friends suffer."
Bennett It's a little after dark and the subway station is all hustle and bustle with people trying to get from point A to point B. Somewhere off to one side, out of the way of the bulk of the crowd, Bennett is sitting on a bench. The rat sitting on his knee is small by NYC rat standards. The little critter is meticulously grooming the man's hand. There's another smaller critter on his shoulder and three larger ones beneath the bench he's sitting on. Those three are enjoying a meal of chips and the rest of a tuna sandwich from a Styrofoam container.

Bennett is currently engaged in conversation with Caim. He looks up at the man standing in front of him and asks, "At what cost?" His tone has grown slightly suspicious.
Vorn The odd, the strange, the not so everyday can make folks feel uneased. A massive orc like creature towering over more or less everyone was walking through. The extreamly light grey, almost white orc ignored the looks as if they never happened, as his heavy boots carried him onwards. Without much thought his path takes him by Caim ad Bennet and the brutish fello rest his weight agaist the wall, an audible 'thud' is heard despite how casually he does it, as if he weighed alot more than he looks. He glances at the rats first and muses "Heh, cute little fellas" before his golden eyes glances to Bennett and Caim as he grunts out a beastial "Hello"
Caim     "The cost would be showing me aid when I have need of it. Surely that is a good enough cost for using my abilities." Caim says calmly. "Some are willing to pay this price. Some arent. Heroes who save others lives request the same thing. Once upon a time I helped others out of the kindness of my heart. It was when people turned their back on me in my time of need did I learn that sometimes helping can be as bad as doing nothing."
Bennett Bennett watches the orc fellow's approach, but it's not with the disdain others might. It's not with fear either. He's just watching a guy walk buy. ...and then stop. The comment about the rats has the homeless man smiling. He's about to respond when his attention snaps back to Caim. "So, you would see people suffer simply because they are unwilling or unable to help you in turn?" A shake of his head has the little rat on his shoulder scampering around to the back of his neck. "Helping people isn't something that should be measured in what you can get in return."
Vorn Vorn ears twitch, as he was a new commer to this conversation. "Sounds like a jaded, cynical und cold old man" he states bluntly "Bit eh. Most things in this world are nit black und white - including how one approaches 'helping' people. Though....whit exactly are heros requesting?" he wonders now. After all he only heard a bit of the conversation.
Caim     "Alot of things should be. People shouldnt like killing each other. People should be tolerant of others beliefs and races. This entire world is full of Should be. Look at these people. Somewhere, amongst these humble people lies the potential for good and evil. Given power they can become great things." He says calmly as he nods to the orc man and he watches him. "I have walked this planet for millenia and seen the worst, and best humanity has to offer. I help those who will help humanity. How do you know the man you saved wont become an enemy when given power?"
Bennett Bennett's smile widens at Bjorn's bluntness. His expression is an open book - I like this dude. Big guy pretty much said it all right there, so Bennett just nods in agreement before, "Name's Ben," in way of introductions. Attention shifts back to Caim. Black eyes study the man for a long few moments before, "Then he would regret his decision as I would defend myself. But I would not regret offering my aid when it was needed." He pushes himself to stand. "I have a friend waiting for me," he offers to both men. To Caim alone he adds, "I would save your life if it was within my power to do so. I would ask for nothing in return." To Bjorn, "Albeit a short meeting, it was a pleasure."
Vorn Vorn shrugs "You do not. And does not matter if they do or do not. Everyone is capable of good and evil, everyone has the potential kill, help others, become something great. Or doing nothing at all. You not trying to save them could wind up with them becomming your enemy if they survive." The man licks a tusk "Only two things is garenteed in life. Being given life, and having it taken away. And even that can be twisted. Frankly to many 'what ifs' to worry about. Much prefer to flow with the river, to rise and fall with the tides"
He than looks to Bennett "Nioce ta meet you. Not going ta rip yer spine out" he says "Go by Vorn" he tells him. Evidently he sees no problem with speaking to strangers in such ways. "Good luck mettin yer friend. Jist watchin here" he says and he continues watching the train station quietly
Bennett "Well, Vorn, my friends," Bennett holds up the arm one of the rats is currently clinging to - the others have scattered to parts unknown quietly and quickly - "...are everywhere. Should you ever find yourself in need of assistance, speak my name. Odds are at least one of them will hear you." ...and pass the request along to another and then that one to another and so on and so forth down the line until the plea reaches Bennett's ears. To Caim he adds, "By the by, the amount of time you've spent on this earth doesn't mean a wit compared to what you do with that time. The deeds you do will return to you one way or another." It's called Karma and it's something Bennett obviously believes in. He stoops to pick up the container his food was in and drops it back into the trash can before he wanders off.
