Magneto      It was a week ago that an email was sent to April O'Neil, formerly of Channel 6 News in New York. The King of Genosha had enjoyed her journalistic style, and wanted to give her the chance for the exclusive interview, after what had occurred with the President of the United States, and with the overtaking of Genosha.

Earlier today, the private plane that was sent for her arrived in Hammer Bay, the Capital City of Genosha. Magneto himself had greeted her upon arriving to the Royal Palace. Of course, she was invited to stay a week in the island nation off the coast of Africa, or to return to New York when she wished.

A room was set up to her specifications for the interview, and accommodations were made at Hammer Bay's finest hotel for her. Magneto has been ready for her questions, and stood outside the door to the study where the makeshift studio had been set up. He was not in his usual combat regalia, instead he was dressed in a manner suitable for the Monarchy. His white hair styled nicely, his waistcoat adorned with epaulets and medals given to him before he was appointed King. He was representing his country, as the icon of hope many Genoshan Mutants had seen him as.
April O'Neil Sometimes life deals you lemons (like when April had been fired because a case she'd broken had invaded the Channel Six News Room and literally killed 2 co-workers, then trashed the place before he'd been subdued)... Now to this. Being given an exclusive with a leader of a newly established country seeking to give Mutants a safer place to live.

April was thrilled to get this chance, and she'd done her best to prepare for it. Also, she'd been doing her best since she arrived... to not look like she didn't belong here (because she sure didn't really think she did!).

So now, outside of the designated room, the young Reporter / Internet Personality is awaiting the man of the hour himself. April is wearing a yellow dress that is very business casual, but also clearly brand new and stylish for the part, sleeveless and showing off her shoulders and neck. Her dark red hair is tied up into a bun on the back of her head and she's wearing some black framed glasses with a low prescription in the lenses that sit over her sky blue eyes.

When Magneto does arrive, she stands up from her chair (set in front of his before the cameras and lights) and she awaits him, a smile showing and her hand extending out to shake his.
Magneto      Magneto enters, sans any entourage, or members of the government. He gave explicit instructions that this was not meant to be an ask three questions and barely answer one scenario.

"Ms. O'Neil, a pleasure! I trust you found the accommodations to your liking?" He says, taking a seat, and giving a smile. Water had been set, and everything seemed to be in order. "I do hope that after this you will do me the pleasure of joining myself and members of parliament at dinner. The local cuisine is quite delicious." Indeed, his e-mail had made it clear this was to be a win-win situation for both April and the nation of Genosha, she was an honored guest in their land.
April O'Neil April shows a happy smile to the man's words and gives him two quick nods before she draws her hand back and adjusts her glasses on her nose (she's not too used to wearing them). "Oh, everything has been amazing. Truly, you've all gone out of your way for me here." She smiles big again before she sits down across from him. She'd already had a sip of her water moments before he'd come inside.

The reporter crosses her legs at the knee and sits posture-perfect upon her chair with a tablet computer resting ontop of her upper thigh. "I would be more than happy to attend dinner with you and your people. I look forward to it even." Another smile is shown then to him.

April's eyes look about the room for a moment before she looks back to him. "Really, I had no idea the level of development that Genosha has undergone. I guess my American-obtuseness has lead me to not fully grasping what it is you've been trying to accomplish here. Its impressive. You've managed to build a seemingly thriving society, in what many would call a 'small amount of time'."
Magneto      Ice blue eyes look kindly on April's responses, returning every smile she gives. "Wonderful, we are indeed pleased to have you here."

Once she comments on the progress they have made as a country, Magneto can only give a genuine nod and smile. "Indeed, many of the people that were liberated from the labor camps were more than willing to work towards the goal I had in mind: a nation where mutantkind would not only be welcomed, but welcomed with open arms. Many of my liberated brothers and sisters felt that it was necessary to make it happen, for all the atrocities that occurred before here."

The man once known as Erik had gestures to the room. "This palace stands on the ruin of the original Presidential Mansion. I think it's a great statement to the world that where once was oppression and xenocide, now stands a bastion of hope and shelter for those who need it." His overall demeanor seems kind, much different than the man once seen shouting from the rooftops for violence against mutant oppression.
April O'Neil April's hands rest on the corners of the tablet computer laying ontop of her upper leg. She stares at Magneto while he speaks and slowly she nods her head to what he's saying, listening as close as she's able to do, which is likely a lot closer than most.

With a charming little smile summoned up on her pink-hued lips, April replies. "So for someone who's a bit more... ignorant on Genosha and all its achievements thus far... Would you say that this is a country that is welcoming to non-Mutants as much as it is -to- Mutnats?" She asks him, its a pretty easy question for the ruler of the nation to field. Likely anyway.
Magneto      The question from April makes Magneto think for a bit. "The man I once was may not have been so keen on thinking about cohabitation. But in my many years, I have grown wiser. Those who wish to remain here are free to, but I will not tolerate acts against mutantkind here. The former slaves here looked to me to protect them, to lead them away from the misery, and horror. I intend to keep their faith in me."

Magneto puts two fingers to the side of his chin. "But that is a two way street, if you will. Those who choose to leave, are welcome to. So, ultimately the answer to your question is yes."
April O'Neil April softly nods her head to the man's words when he offers them and she shows a quick and faint smile toward him. "Can I ask a potentially touchy rebuttal to that?" She asks, not really waiting more than a second or two before she goes ahead and asks him.

"What will you do if the Mutants here, assuming that they outnumber the non-Mutants, turn the tables and start to treat them with little to no respect? I mean, the goal for our world is equality for all, isn't it?" She tilts her head to the side a little. "I just want to make sure that that is really... ultimately, the goal. Equality for all, not just a certain subset of our planet's populace as a whole. Is that, too, the goal of Genosha and its leader?"
Magneto      "By all means." Magneto responds, waiting for April to ask her question.

Once she asks, he looks to April, retuning his hand to his lap. "When I answer this, I want you to understand who this comes from. I've done my share of actions against humanity. I spent most of my life saying that coexistence is impossible. My goal first and foremost is for Mutants to be able to be free here. I want to believe that everyone wants to coexist peacefully. Those who do, are more than welcome here. Mutant, or non. If that can happen, please let it be here. Right here, right now." His face is serious, seemingly turned over a new leaf. "Do you know what the percentage of non Mutants on Genosha?" He asks, offhand, attempting to prove the point. "Thirty-three percent currently."
April O'Neil April's eyes remain on that of his while he replies to her and she straightens her head up again from its previous tilt. "Well, lets hope that that thirty three percent can play nice with the other sixty seven. And vice versa." And then April flashes a quick smile before she gives a slight shake of her head to dismiss that topic. "So whats Genosha's... message to the world, not just the population of Mutants out there who may be feeling as though their rights and safeties are at threat wherever they are? What do you want people to think of when they think of Genosha? And where do you see Genosha in fifty years... a hundred years?"
Magneto      He straightens up in his chair, taking a drink of water, after which, the glass is placed on the table next to him. "Genosha's message is simple, and if I may say, somewhat borrowed from what used to be that of the United States. 'Give us your poor, your hungry, your huddled masses, willing to work and make better for themselves and collectively, Genosha.'"

Magneto pauses a moment, thinking on the other two. "I want people to think of Genosha as the next evolution of the Great Experiment. While there are many reasons to visit here, we want to build our population, and to grow." Her final questions garner a healthy laugh. "I would venture to say, I see Genosha as the model for peace in the world. I would like very much to see it be that trailblazer." His voice cool and collected there, even if it is a dream, it's one that sounds nice.
April O'Neil April softly nods her chin to what he says, but doesn't make it an overly noticeable gesture since she's merely recognizing his words. His words... they're not for her, they're for everyone who's to watch this interview around the world.

"I admire those words and I hope that that is how things unfold." April quietly says. "But you do know that many in this world, specifically in the United States, not only don't trust you... but they actually fear you." She tells him, voice calm and soft. "After what happened last November: In Washington. You were a major piece of the puzzle that came together with the then President of the United States, being shot... and soon there-after passing away from the injuries."

April's head softly shakes back and forth then. "Some will look at actions such as that, and never believe that your goal is peace. When you, quite literally, dropped a subway car onto the White House lawn. Forcing results, rather than achieving them through peaceful means."
Magneto      Magneto's face changes from happily serious to that of sullen regret. "My intent was to uncover a plot, in front of the world. President Underwood had in his time as Vice President, murdered in cold blood a mutant that had uncovered his plans to ascend to your nation's highest office. I had the evidence, that subway car was the exact one used in the plot. Along with what I handed over to the Avengers." He pauses, reaching to the glass again and drinking a little.

"It was unfortunate that someone had decided to open fire on him before he could be brought to justice."

He leans back on the chair back a bit, almost an animalistic way of showing his most vulnerable area. "This was government corruption at the highest level. I wanted that poor girl's family to know she was not forgotten, she was not some suicide statistic."

His icy eyes look to April, in them was the weight of the world on his shoulders, they welled up but no tears shed now. "Zoe Barnes was not forgotten. If people fear me for that, it is their prerogative, I would not begrudge them for it."
April O'Neil April remains mostly stationary as she listens to this response from him, she hasn't yet reached for her glass since she'd started talking with him in front of the cameras that had started recording prior to him even entering the room.

"That woman, who shot him... Raven Darkholme?" April starts then. "I have to remind our viewers that she was a notorious associate of yours, and yet still remains yet to be found or seen since that day. Its believed that she's no longer in the United States, and many believe that she's fled... here. To your bastion of peace and safety for Mutantkind." April shows a faint smile then and shakes her head softly.

"But since that can't be proven either way, who's to say?" She looks down at her tablet computer for a moment then before she looks back up at him.

"And let me just add that Miss Barnes was a journalist, much like myself and I do feel a great deal of compassion for her and her family in the wake of that awful tragedy. So I do hope that they've found some peace, but I fear that it came through a violent display that won't... ultimately... help Genosha look more friendly to the outside world."

With a light exhale, Aprin dips her chin once in a nod toward Mags then. "If Raven Darkholme does make herself visibly known here... Will you arrest her and send her back to the U.S. to face legal charges?"
Magneto      "Raven...and I had grown apart. I hadn't seen her for a year before then." He maintains his view upon April. "We currently do not have any extradition agreements with any country. If the United States wanted me to extradite her, should she be found, there would have to be many talks on the subject. As you can imagine, I have not received many calls from the Executive Branch since last November."

Magneto canters his head ever so slightly. "But I would also venture to say considering the evidence provided against President Underwood, and the staggering amount of individuals that take it upon themselves to carry out backwoods justice in the US, is what she did any different? Does the President not address the nation as 'my fellow Americans'? Of course this is a discussion for another time, just something I want to bring to light. In a world where we exist with people like The Punisher, The Green Arrow, Iron Man, and the Black Widow, did she not simply do the same thing they would? Ask yourself that before we condemn Raven." He seems to be willing to give Raven a chance, but the truth is that Mystique really has not been seen for a very long time, at least by Magneto.
April O'Neil April nods lightly to the man's words and then at the end she brings up a smile at him. "Well... I wouldn't have done that." She responds to him, her smile turning into a grin. She leans forward and laughs softly. "Heck. I can't even bring myself to throw out a VCR that I use to hold up a DVD player, which is holding up a Blu-Ray player which is holding up a Netflix streaming box." And another little laugh comes from the redheaded reporter. "I guess I'm just not the vigilante type, I can't even toss out old media hardware because I'm that much of a softy."

April then just smiles, showing her inner warmth as best she can. "Well, your Highness-- a title I am certainly not used to addressing anyone by-- I think you're going to have an influx of hopeful Genoshan citizens that will likely be coming to your shores for a place that they feel may welcome them. How might you be preparing for that onslaught additional housing and work infrastructure in this oasis of Mutant-rights that you now call home?"
Magneto      He pulls back again, his serious tone again going back to a smile. "And that's one's prerogative. But the discussion should be had, I feel." It then seems the talks move to another subject, which Magneto is happy to move to.

The King gives a nod. "We are prepared for it, myself and our very industrious people are hard at work in every part of Genosha, we have the resources right now to be able to house up to an extra half our population." He holds up a hand. "If I may demonstrate." He raises a cylinder of small metal blocks that seem to arrange themselves like a building. "We build in a manner that makes it easy to add onto our current structures, and with the amount of various abilities we as a people have, can easily make these additions within a matter of weeks, not months." On one building, rises one of half the size until it is nested on top of the original structure. "It's really a sight to behold, when people can work together for a common goal." Magneto's eyes gleam with a bit of pride towards his country.
April O'Neil April's eyes look down at the building blocks that the man is arranging with his mutation (that she read a lot about prior to this meeting) and it was truly fascinating to get to see the elder mutant working those powers like that, right here in front of her. She has to try to hide her entertainment from it, as best she can.

April's right hand reaches up and she adjusts her black framed glasses on her small nose, and her eyes look back to the King of this land. "I imagine that must be a very impressive sight to behold, what with the wide array of powers that mutants are granted through their genetic differences from the rest of us." She pauses then to show a slight grin. "I hope that equates to less on-the-job work injuries as well." But that was of course just a passing comment, for the fun of it.

"Your Highness." April continues. "Based on my research, its the poorest of Mutantkind who suffer the worst around the world, but its also those same individuals who will have the hardest time getting here... to this 'bastion of peace' that you're offering them. How might you be planning to help thsee who want to come here, but simply cannot financially accomplish it?"
Magneto      Magneto looks at April's reaction, finding it nice to see that from someone instead of cries and accusations. Her small joke gets him to laugh, in fact it was a good laugh.

The Master of Magnetism takes in the next question, and nods. "I am actually planning a solution to this problem. I'm hoping to announce it in the coming month. For now, let's just say I'm hoping that we will only need to worry about them getting to hub cities. And rest assured, I will make sure your current outlet at the time will be the one to break the announcement."
