Carrie Kelley     The sun had set awhile ago. Long enough that most sensible people in this section of town were heading into their homes to lock themselves in for the night. Those that could anyway. Crime here wasn't as bad as other areas, but it never hurt to be cautious. Normally Carrie would be among those sensible ones. She grew up here though, or not too far away, that she felt confident as any Gothamite possibly could be.

Besides, she had a reason to be out.

The strings of her hoodie are tugged tight to ensure that her hood stays up covering both her hair and face as much as possible even though she was ontop of the flat roof of a building. Her goal was the building next which was only one level lower. An easy jump... but the next would be the same height, and then back up again. This was the path of practice she'd set for herself. WIth a deep breath she runs and leaps into the air with legs tucked up to her chest as she arcs, and starts to come down toward the lower rooftop. Tuck and roll, tuck and roll! She hadn't managed to land running yet.
Selina Kyle Not every night needs to be a night of theivery. Sometimes you just want to go out for a run and enjoy the evening air. Except instead of running on the ground it's parkour practice on the rooftops. Abandoning her catsuit for tonight, Selina sports a form fitting, lightweight jacket along with a pair of leggings and light sneakers.

She's been out for some time, exploring despite knowing these districts like the back of her hand, but for a while now her attention has been fixed on a lone girl jumping across the buildings. It's quite amusing, honestly, though she can only take so much of watching the poor thing do tuck and rolls.

"You really have to learn to land on your feet, you know. Takes too much time to recover from a roll." Selina greets in a smooth tone, hoping not to startle Carrie too much when she reveals herself on an adjacent roof, standing on the edge with hands on her hips and a light smirk.
Carrie Kelley     It's just as she comes up from a roll, slightly bruised and covered with a light flecking of rooftop gravel, that she hears the voice. Stiffening her head snaps in the direction of the woman standing there while she just ... sits like a lump on the roof opposite. Tugging her knees up to her chest she plants her feet on the gravel rooftop to regard the woman. "Yeah, I'm working on that. Trying to at least," she adds with a half-laugh at herself. This was certainly not an area of expertise for her yet in any way shape or form.

"I, ah... I wasn't expecting anyone else to be around here. Sorry if I was making noise and keeping you up or something." It's a reasonable thought at least since she had been going back and forth on rooftops several times. Pushing to her feet she dusts herself off with a sigh. "At least I know how to land."
Selina Kyle Selina's smirk is quick to shift in a grin at the apology, having a hand in friendly dismissal. "No need to be sorry, I'm out here doing the same thing." To demonstrate, she takes a few steps back to give herself some distance before making a light sprint for the edge.

There isn't much distance between their buildings, so the jump would've been an easy one, but Selina spices it up with some extra power in her leap to tuck into a flip. Unlike Carrie, she lands on the rooftop's edge on her feet like her alter ego's namesake and comes up, arms in the air like a landing gymnast. "Tada~"

Arms soon drop to her sides and she steps down to join Carrie, thrusting a hand out to shake when close enough. "Selina. ..And yo know there's a slim line between landing and falling. Maybe I can help you lean more to the former?"
Carrie Kelley     It was rather hard not to watch when someone demonstrates exactly what you were trying to do. For a moment Carrie looks this unknown woman over, trying to figure out what she was up to. Who she might be. Of course she had no clue. It wasn't as if she were wearing a costume at all. Maybe it was someone with odd hobbies just like herself.

"Carrie. Carrie Kelley," she offers back when Selina introduces herself. The hand is taken to shake lightly, and she offers the woman a warm smile. "Honestly I probably could use the help. I've checked out videos of how to do it but it's not quite the same. I just... usually teach myself things. I'm finding that there's some things I just need to get help with."
Selina Kyle "Pleasure." Selina keeps a friendly demeanor while regarding the young woman with a light tilt of her head. "Videos are nice and all, but they're nothing like the real thing. For starters, you actually need to see where you're going.." Before Carrie can protest, a finger on each hand hooks into both sides of her hood, Selina opening it and pushing it off her head. "There we are, much better." She hums with an approving nod.

That done, she nods to the edge. "Now try jumping again, but this time don't even stop. When you're on the move you barely have time to think about what's next. You have to know in that instant how much power you're gonna put into your pushoff and where your feet are going to land. And try not to land on straight legs or flat feet, just follow through like you're still running."
Carrie Kelley     "Hey, what--" The motion had Carrie almost backs up when Selina reaches for her. The hood comes down though leaving her ginger hair exposed to the air, and gren eyes blinking wide. If it wasn't obvious before beneath the hood it was now; she was wearing glasses. Thankfully secured with a sport strap behind her neck, but glasses were still glasses.

"Oh... I didn't realize that might be an issue. I was just kind of, um... Being silly I guess." So much for wanting to avoid drawing attention to herself. That boat had long since sailed.

The advice given is taken in with a serious expression. Eyebrows draw together with concentration. "Okay, right. Honestly I did gymnastics when I was younger so I probably should be able to do this." It was just intimidating to be jumping rooftops. That hadn't stopped her yet. A deep breath is drawn bracing herself before she moves in a jogging run to jump. This time she doesn't tuck her body, she keeps her knees bent. She lands in a bit of a stumble but she is on her feet at least as she continues a few paces on the opposite roof.
Selina Kyle Selina wears goggles even bigger than that most nights, so she isn't against stylish eyewear. Also, they look adorable on Carrie! She gives her a stern nod as she takes on the challenge of the next gap between buildings, craning neck eagerly once Carrie takes off.

There's that moment of anticipation while watching her make the jump, waiting for her to stick the landing.. And she does! A bit shakey, but it's a start. "That was excellent!" Selina cheers with a delighted hoot and a laugh before following her over with an easy leap.

"Now then, let's keep going for a few more! Keep yourself limber, don't even think about what's below, it's only you and the night up here." Selina beams in passing and waves Carrie to follow before making another graceful jump, fluid as a feline.
Carrie Kelley     Shaky or not she landed it. Selina's praise is met with an incredulous laugh as she feels her tension start to fade away into that little thrill brought about by adrenaline. "That was... Okay!" More? Sure! She lets herself get lost in the moment as she races along with Selina. The next jump is a bit better even as she makes mental notes that boots might help to brace her ankles some. Or maybe not? She'd have to try it another time.

For now she feels the wind in her hair with each jump. That moment of hanging in the air with nothing below, and then the rooftop, leaves her laughing. There's still a few stumbles here and there but as her confidence grows it's less significant than the first attempt.

"Do you do this all the time? It's great!"
Selina Kyle "As often as I can. Have to stay in shape, you know." Selina asides to Carrie with a smirk and a little wink. They don't have to go far, only about half a block, but it's still a decent workout. By the time they reach the last building before the street makes it too far to jump, Selina is breathing a bit heavier than before. Slowing to a stop, she chuckles through a pant and smiles proudly to the the young woman accompanying her before sitting on the ledge. "See? Much better than watching a video. Keep this up and you'll be doing backflips and everything."
Carrie Kelley     "Oh, I can do that... I mean I could if I could breathe right now," Carrie responds as she tucks hreself down bracing her hands on her knees to take several deep breaths. "Holy wow that's a workout all right." Another chuckle comes as she sinks down to sit near Selina dangling her legs off the edge. "I think I'm going to need to practice that a lot more if I want to do it without feeling like a grandpa." A grin is offered to Selina as her attention shifts back to the woman. "Thanks for the pointers. I know it's kind of weird for me to be up here anyway. Then again I guess it's kind of odd in general. Still that was..." she pauses to consider a moment. "More fun than I thought it would be."
Selina Kyle Hands curl around the edge's lip, Selina leaning out a little into the open air as legs sway idly. "Ah, you're young, don't worry, you've got plenty of time." As if she herself weren't young, too. "Took me a lot of time and dicipline to get where I am today, you just gotta keep at it. It's better if you've got a goal in mind."

Leaning back, she runs a hand through black, pixie hair and rests forearms over thighs, head canting curiously while looking to Carrie beside her. "What's got you running up here, mm?"
Carrie Kelley That was a question all right. Carrie hums thoughtfully though she doesn't respond immediately. Instead she tips her own gaze to peer down at the street. From this height it looked entirely different even though she'd grown up near here and had walked these streets numerous times. The rooftops made a huge difference.

"Honestly? I had a run in with some guys that Batman was chasing a couple of weeks ago. I just... I guess I kind of wondered what it must be like for someone up here. Running around, watching over Gotham."
Selina Kyle Selina expected some story of troubled youth, running away from problems, or just looking for some really intense cardio. But Batman? There's an interesting answer. She perks at that, smile turning cattish at the corner and green eyes squinting to match. "Ah, so you met Gotham's dear Dark Knight, did you?"

While Carrie looks down, Selina looks up to the dark sky, the city's lights drowning out most of the stars save that beautifully bright moon. "He's quite wonderful, isn't he? I've seen him a few times, myself.." Her words fade off for a few beats, gaze distance until she draws herself back with a quiet sigh and a light smirk back to her rooftop companion. "Sometimes I wonder if I'm out here I'll catch sight of him again, so I understand. But up here.. It's a totally different world. We get to see so much more than the average person, the good and the bad.."
Carrie Kelley     "I think at the time I was more terrified than anything," Carrie responds as she leans back resting her hands behind her. It let her tip her head up toward the sky as well. With the light masking the night sky there wasn't much to see. Still, it was a far different view than what she was used to as well.

"No... No that's not exactly right. I was *angry*. I tried to fight back when they caught me but I just sucked at it. I didn't like that feeling. I mean sure it was pretty awesome when he swooped down. That's a once in a lifetime thing right there. ... I want to make the other part a once in a lifetime thing, too, though."

"Ah, sorry. Listen to me rambling on like some kid." A grin crosses her face once again and she looks to Selina once more. "It is great up here. I might do this more often."
Selina Kyle Selina watches Carrie as she explains her reasoning, feeling a sort of tightness in her chest as she does. So she wants to be able to take care of herself.. When she's met with that grin, she offers back a soft smile, empathetic. "Well then, that just means I'll have to catch you out here more often, doesn't it? I'd be happy to teach you some tricks and a couple fighting moves, if you'd like. No one will mess with you once you show them what you know, I guarantee."
Carrie Kelley "Oh, you don't have to! I'm taking some martial arts now and practicing as hard as I can," Carrie assures quickly with a lift of her hand sweeping back to rub at her neck. "If you want to though. I think it would be interesting to see what else I can learn. I'm working on the fighting part, but this?" The hand swings down to gesture out over the rooftops.

"I think I want to keep doing this part, too. I'm sure I'll see you around."
Selina Kyle Selina lifts her shoulders in a casual shrug and gestures flippantly, "Those classes are good, but I'll still give you some pointers." Can't have her holding back in a fight, after all. That said, she stands and balances on the edge of they sit on, back to the street and regarding Carrie with bright eyes. "But we'll definitely train this part more. Keep practicing, brush up on your gymnastics, and remember to stretch! Catch you later, dear." She punctuates with a lazy, two finger salute and a wink before stepping backwards off the ledge.

And before Carrie panics, she'll see Selina landing on the windowsill just below, using them as jumping points to reach street level and carry off into the night.
Carrie Kelley "Hey... HEY!" Carrie grips the edge of the ledge leaning forward with concern at such a jump only to watch Selina jump off. It takes her a moment to realize she was holding her breath. Letting it out in a groan of relief she throws herself back to lay out on the rooftop staring at the sky. She had a LOT to think about.
