Jennifer Kale     It's mid-morning in Sunnydale, which means the early breakfast shift is already off to work and the lunch crowd isn't due to arrive for another couple of hours. That's how one tells time in a coffee shop, and Enchanted Grounds is no exception. There's just a few regulars lingering about while the staff takes advantage of the lull. It's a nice schtick to have helpers dressed as witches or sorceresses, and nobody seems to get tired of it.

Sitting at a table near the window, a slender blonde works on coffee and a bagel while looking through the want ads in the local paper. Jennifer is wearing a pink crop-top and low-rise bellbottom jeans, a bit anachronistic, but it's a look that works for her.
Felicia Hardy Of all the places in the world, Sunnydale was the last place Felicia expected to find a book that might help her in her quest to learn more about her recent acquisition. But Sunnydale was changing, for better or worse. The worse, she'd guess. But overnight shipping takes SO LONG. Patience is a virtue. And not one with which Felicia Hardy is acquainted. So a charter jet later, she is in possession of the tome she sought, and looking for a place to read. Inconspicuously, of course. What place is more inconspicuous than a place where everyone there is pretending to be in some sort of archaic character. In her black leather pants and jacket, and silver blouse that nearly matches her hair, she enters the coffee shop. Looking around the place, she finds a seat after ordering, at a table near the window, to peruse her purchased text in relative peace near a woman dressed like she might be festival-hopping.
Jennifer Kale Black leather and silver walks into the coffee shop, and Jen is glancing over at just the right time. Or the wrong time, depending. For the blonde, the 70's look is a natural thing for her. Just like the tattoo along her arm. She pauses with coffee cup lingering close, neither here nor there, and she watches as the platinum blonde finds a seat. Okay, NOW she can sip. And then she spots the tome. Brows lift, but she tries not to stare too much. Gesturing towards the book, she asks in a quiet voice. "E-Bay?"
Felicia Hardy Felicia glances up as she lifts her cup to her lips, and she arches a brow, a little surprised anyone would even guess what she's reading, but maybe it's just conversation. "No, I don't have that kind of patience," Felicia says with a wry smile. "Something I found with a private collector, and I just -had- to have it."

She sips from her cup, then, from what appears to be a dark latte. Flipping through the pages, she glances through the book hastily, and lifts her gaze out the window for a moment, the sun glinting off surfaces outside and making her blue eyes appear transparent. "This place has changed since I last saw it."
Jennifer Kale Jen cradles the mug in both hands, now, letting her gaze wander as pages are flipped. "Well judging from those symbols around the margins, I would be very careful not to read it out loud." she offers. "Must've come from a -very- private collection." She takes a sip, turning her attention from the tome to its owner. "It has? I'm pretty new in town, myself. Oh, I'm Jen."
Felicia Hardy Felicia's gaze softens, then, and she nods to the girl. "Felicia. Pleasure to meet you. Or should I say 'Enchanted'?" she asks with a half-smile as she looks around at the barista and other employees. "I tracked the seller down through some personal contacts. I certainly won't be reading it aloud. I guess I just find stuff like this fascinating," she adds offhandedly. "So a Monday morning and you're enjoying a coffee house instead of a cubicle. You're one of the lucky ones."
Jennifer Kale Jennifer's eyes brighten, perhaps at the smile, and she smiles as well. "It's something of a hobby of mine, actually." she replies. "The occult, I mean. And yeah, I work nights so this is an early breakfast for me." She lowers her mug before continuing. "I've not been in town very long, but I've been here long enough to know that we don't get a lot of people like you in town. And I don't mean that in a bad way."
Felicia Hardy "Well, there aren't a lot of people like me," Felicia quips back, raking her fingers through her long silvery waves with a playful wink. Probably just a friendly joke. Probably. "But I live in Manhattan. I just came out to get this." She indicates the book, giving it a slight tip in Jen's direction.

"Oh, what do YOU do at night here? I'd imagine the night life here is FAR different from what I remember, as well."
Jennifer Kale Jennifer chuckles at the preening and the wink, although she also nods in agreement. "Yeah, you're a bit too... exotic... to be local. Manhattan? Yeah, that's much more believable." Setting down the mug, she picks off some of the bagel.

"I'm a dancer, but it's just to pay the bills. Just started at a local club here called The Sunny Side Up." And it's a pretty good bet what sort of club THAT is. Although Jen doesn't seem the least bit evasive or bothered with it.
Felicia Hardy Tilting her head, Felicia looks over Jen appraisingly. "Just to pay the bills? I dunno. I think things like that are just in the blood, sometimes. I hear a lot of 'just to pay the bills,' but there are so many other ways to pay bills. Takes something a little different to be a dancer," she says ponderously. "Like once you start to dance, it sorta gets addictive."
Jennifer Kale Jennifer flashes a smile at that, and her gaze -does- lower briefly. "Well it helps that I -do- enjoy it, yes. Sounds like you're maybe speaking from experience. Like you've *known* girls who've danced before." Okay, so it's a polite lead-in, but there isn't anything harsh in her tone or expression. "So what brought you to Sunnydale, if you don't mind my asking? The first time, I mean."
Felicia Hardy Felicia flashes a knowing smile and nods. "I travel a lot. A LOT. Passed through here once several years ago, but the place was just really full of jugheads and the like. Unassuming little town. But now...I dunno. It's changed..." she says, trailing off. "I like to see everywhere. Experience -everything-."
Jennifer Kale The blonde nibbles her bagel, pointing towards the tome with a fingertip. "Just be careful with -that-, or you're likely to get more than you bargained for." she offers. "Still. I can't really picture a classy lady like yourself hanging out with strippers. Unless it's at an occult coffee shop over breakfast or something."
Felicia Hardy Felicia nearly chokes on a sip of her coffee, and she laughs, waving dismissively. "Ah no, I didn't hang out with strippers, perse. I was a dancer for awhile. An exclusive club up north, and in London. You know...experiencing everything." Then her attention turns back to the book, and she nods slowly. "Well I know what I'm getting into. At least...part of what I'm getting into. I'm researching an artifact that was unearthed recently, and short of hopping a steamer to South America, this is my best bet at finding out a little more about it." she explains, adding hastily, "for a friend." For once she's not lying about the friend. Even if he disappeared on a steamer to South America months ago, without a trace.
Jennifer Kale Jennifer chuckles as well, blue eyes bright at the reaction. "I'm a bit more of a less-exclusive gal, myself." she replies with a similar, knowing smile. "And if you're interested in some occult expertise, I'm pretty free in the near future. I'll even cover my own travel expenses; tell me when and where. I've never -been- to South America before, but it can't be a whole lot hotter than Florida."
Felicia Hardy "Well, be careful what you wish for," Felicia warns quietly, if a bit too calmly. "This has to do with more primordial forces than just occult, although the latter does play into it. The two people who originally brought me into the research loop disappeared down there somewhere. They've been missing for months. I don't plan to go down there myself, unless I find enough information to tell me exactly -what- I'm looking for. But as for a bit of advice and insight, I'm always game to pick your brain." She grins, her wild blue eyes taking on a hint of a vibrant green sparkle. Felicia would absolutely SUCK at poker.
Jennifer Kale Jen laughs softly and raises her coffee for another sip. "I'm really comfortable with primordial forces, Felicia. That's probably about as much as I can discuss, even right here. But let's say for starters we sit down somewhere less public and go through this little book you've found. May lead to nothing, or it may be just what you need." Jennifer considers for a moment, watching those blue eyes. "And I may be able to offer some insight on my own as well."
Felicia Hardy "That sounds...promising," Felicia offers with a smile. "Perhaps we could meet again soon, then. I'll remain in town a little longer," she says, pulling out a card with simply a phone number printed on it. She places it on the table in front of Jen, and lifts her coffee to finish it. "Call me if you're serious. I'll be glad to meet you someplace less..." she gestures vaguely "...public."
