Carrie Kelley It was getting easier for her the more she did this. There were still days where her legs hurt from the exercise, but her stamina was improving. Her aim, her balance. She was proud in her progress in this at least and tonight was enjoying that she could leap from rooftop to rooftop with far more ease than when she first started.

Carrie takes a running leap off of one building edge to the next. That moment of being out in the open air before gravity takes hold was becoming rather... familiar as much as it was thrilling. She lands in an easy gait, slowing to walk in a circle shaking out her arms. It was time for a break for now. So she moves to the side of the rooftop to crouch down and peer below at the streets.
Brooke Harris And as you come around the air conditioner on the rooftop, you find that you are not alone on the roof. A female figure is there before you, in a black bodysuit and full mask with a white yang symbol covering her right eye and curving down to her chin.

Yin stands quietly, studying the street below as you come around the corner to stand beside her, probably not having expected to not be alone, then looks over at you quietly.

There is a pause, during which you likely realize that you are not alone, and a soft "I will admit, I did not expect to see you on a rooftop." The pitch of the voice is familiar, but the Chinese accent isn't matching your memory. Her hand comes up quietly to put a finger to her lips. Shh.
Carrie Kelley Well that was a surprise. Carrie pauses at the sight of the suited figure that had almost blended so perfectly into the shadows that she almost missed them entirely. There's a sudden tension about her as she watches, quietly, unsure how to react or if she ought to. Then Yin speaks and she lets out the breath she'd been unconciously holding.

"I'm full of surprises," she offers back with a sheepish grin that fades as she tips her head. That was familiar. Too familiar. Where... the voice though... A puzzled frown comes over her as she tries to look for any other clues that might hint as to the identity of this person. "It's a good workout. To be honest I've run into a lot more people on rooftops than I ever expected."
Brooke Harris Yin nods quietly. She looks back down at the street again. "Mm. There might be some more company on the way. Just file it away as 'Ninjas'." She looks down. "A student of a laoshi I know is trying to start a new studio. There is some controversy about her skills. Someone might want to test her. They do not know that she is not completely in fighting trim right now; I do not want her being attacked today." She looks around a bit. "She does not know she is not in fighting trim yet either, but I do not want to be the one to tell her." She pats her belly lightly, then looks back at Carrie.
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley watches Yin quietly as she explains what's going on. That DID sound familiar. Moreso when she mentions ninjas and then that hard-to-pronounce term she'd heard only a few times before. Slowly her eyes widen as a thought crosses her mind. Could it be? A grin creeps over her before she snaps her mind back to the current topic. "Oh. OH." Looking back toward the street and buildings below she frowns thoughtfully. "That would be a difficult topic to bring up if she doesn't know already, yeah. And a good reason to keep an eye on her."
Brooke Harris Yin nods. "You understand." She rises and moves around the rooftop a bit, looking down at the fire escape, then returns. Footsteps silent. "What will you do if company arrives? How is your training coming along?" She gives you a critical look over, examining your posture and mimicking it for a moment, slowly studying you. "What do you feel like you are ready for?"
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley stands when Yin moves to the fire escape watching the woman go, and half expecting that to be it. It did seem that she was 'on the clock' after all whereas she was just out practicing. When Yin comes back to ask such questions she has to consider that. What was she ready for?

For quite awhile anytime someone asked her about her new workout regimine she would just claim self-defense, or fighting the Freshman Fifteen. Actually admitting, out loud, what she was training for hadn't been something she'd done yet. Those questions though make her consider them seriously. What was she ready for?

A deep breath is taken, shoulders squaring with a serious look creeping over her. It's followed by a grin. "I could probably handle some muggers, or basic things like that. I haven't really tested myself that way yet though."
Brooke Harris Yin nods quietly. "Well. You should decide fast." She turns away to face the sudden scrambling noise at the other edge of the roof.

A hook and line appear where she is looking. "There are four of them. One of them is probably here just for the lock on the door. He's the one with the backpack." She takes a breath, then relaxes, shrugging her shoulders and moving into a stance. "All boys. Lightly altered." She mimes tipping a glass to her lips. "Typical."
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley jerks her head toward the fire escape as the sounds of footsteps on the rungs finally reach her ears. She wasn't really wearing anything special so far as attire went, but she was wearing a hoodie. It seemed appropriate to at least tug her hood up over her head casting her face in shadows. It wasn't much, but it offered some semblance of hiding her identity. Much as she could on short notice.

"Okay then. Four on a bottleneck stair way, no problem." Right. For now she moves behind the A/C unit that had hidden her view of that side of the building to begin with, and she hunkers down waiting for them to come up. It would at least give her a moment of surprise, she hoped.
Brooke Harris Yin nods. "You have time to head over to the next building if you would rather not deal with it." She pulls a black bandana out of a pocket and tosses it to you, then watches as the first set of hands come over the edge, followed by the first crudely-masked delinquent. She crosses her arms and waits for him to actually look around and notice her, which doesn't immediately happen. In fact, the guy turns away to give the second delinquent a hand up.. She shakes her head a bit, body language radiating a silent tsk tsk. Then another set of hands come up on the rope.
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley catches the bandana out of the air instinctively. It takes a moment for it to click in her mind, and she wraps it around the lower half of her face to add some further anonymity. "No, I'll help," she assures a bit stubbornly. Given the element of surprise was apparently on their side, and she was now 'disguised', she steps out as well to join beside Yin waiting for the boys to get up over a roof. "... Okay, yay for teamwork at least, but they're kind of slow aren't they?"
Brooke Harris Delinquent number three gets onto the roof, and finally. Finally recognizes that they aren't alone. "Uh, guys?"

Yin gives them a moment to realize their foolishness in not securing the area they are entering in silence as panic starts to set in. Two of them flinch up into recognizable stances. She tilts her head. "Hmmm. Wing Chun. Is Laoshi Bryant still recovering from his knee surgery? You are using his angled stance." She tsks. "This place is under my protection. You shouldn't be here."

The delinquents squirm uneasily. "There are four of us. Who are you?"
Carrie Kelley "I've always heard that women are better multi-taskers than men, so four of you shouldn't be an issue at all," Carrie tosses out with her voice only slightly muffled from the bandana she'd tied around her face. It was mostly bravado, this talk, but it came without thinking. It did put her at ease. It also means she doesn't have to answer the question of who they were-- That she would leave to the person with an actual mask. "You guys might want to call it a night."
Brooke Harris One of the delinquents dives at Yin. He's spoiling for a fight, and he has one in front of him!

Yin just sort of casually shifts her weight, lightly brushes his elbow up and lets him crash hard into her hand, which is braced against her hip in a deep stance. Hey! Didn't you learn this move in your first class, more or less? She lightly pushes him off to the side to cough and groan and gasp for breath, and casually moves to seperate the one with the backpack from the others, turning her back on him dismissively as the others get caught up in their desire to not lose face and move to attack.

Backpack guy moves clumsily, like a new student, and looks around for a way to help take down the scary vigilante. He hasn't decided on what to do yet, and seems like he doesn't want to be embarrassed by being a coward. His stance is garbage, but it's there.
Carrie Kelley It appeared Yin had the more formidable students that were looking to bust up this new dojo. That left her with the backpack weilding guy. Some part of her felt sorry for him, seeing the hesitant way he acted. Likely he was the 'smart' one that had gotten dragged along out of a sense of wanting to fit in with the others, a situation she knew well. Still. He was here at all and who knew what he had in that bag of his.

Moving to the side toward him, her own posture relaxed for now, she offers out, "Looks like you really ought to get some new friends. Throw down the bag and I'll let you leave."
Brooke Harris Yin looks at the students with an air of disdain. "Never rush an unknown opponent. It leaves you too vulnerable. Most people don't run away like cardio kiddies, and things like THAT might happen." She drifts softly into another stance. "You can always grab your friend and leave."

The students sneer, "Get UP, loser! We can take these two! Mike, go kick that newbie's ass, you work out for a reason, right? You can take HER. She doesn't even HAVE a costume!"

Yin tsks. "Bravado, the ring in the nose of the typical gang boy. You'd think they would learn, but the group breaks them down."

The two students start circling Yin, who just sits there. She even crosses her arms to watch them. The one with the bag throws the bag down, but then steps forward toward Carrie, holding his fists up and glaring. "You don't get to talk like that to us!"
Carrie Kelley "It was worth a shot," Carrie reasons with shoulders rolling to loosen herself up. The posture was familiar enough at this point to her. The fact that he wasn't confident in it was better for her. The fact he was getting angry was the best. Though it couldn't be seen with the bandana over her face she grins as she slides into her own ready stance. Dropping her voice down she alters it to sound like the guy she was facing. "Come at me, bro!"

The last taunt given she moves forward herself, swinging a kick out toward the kid's feet. She does take care to kick in a way that would cause him to fall away from the edge of the roof--She didn't want to risk sending someone over the edge.
Brooke Harris Yin idly comments, sort've cryptically, "Wing chun is linear. Use a brail." Somebody took a couple minutes to look at stage management terminology?

The kid actually has a couple moves - the foot kick opening looks like one he's used to stop-kicking, then he just steps forward with a set of fast short straight punches at the middle of your body. His centerline looks pretty well guarded, and he's moving straight in on you like a bull at a flag with a tight shuffle step.

The two others move closer, making flinching punching movements at Yin, who continues to stand and watch, completely nonplussed, shaking her head is faint dissapointment.
Carrie Kelley Brail? Carrie's eyes narrow at the information. To the side. Swing by him. Like the props moved about on stage during a production. The punches come and she dodges to the side circling behind him with a quick forward step.

Drawing an arm up she snaps it back toward him aiming to hit the back of his shoulders with the sharp point of her elbow. If punching was his thing she'd make it hard to do that then. As soon as she lets it go she dodges to the side away again attempting to avoid a retaliation.
Brooke Harris The bag guy goes staggering forward at being hit.. pretty hard really, your form is improving already.. and flails around some. He clutches his shoulder with his other arm, making a pained noise, and looking back to his friends for encouragement.

One of them actually throws a punch at Yin, who softly turns to the side, then back, in Wave Hands Like Clouds. The arm is extended, and he is pulled a bit and twisted into a joint lock. She lightly does a kick to take him off his feet, and gently tosses him into his friend. Both go crashing to the ground.

Yin watches the fallen gangers and shakes her head. "You are completely outmatched here. Just imagine if you had found a bat? Just go home, get a beer, brag about how tough you are, and give this up as a bad idea. You had your fight."
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley spins around back to face him in case he comes back for her. The fact that he was looking for reinforcement for his antics in spite of being willing to hit her a moment ago wasn't lost on her. "Yeah. I've seen the Bats in action. They wouldn't bother to even give the option of leaving." Or maybe they would. The ninjas they'd fought in front of her really weren't such amatures as this after all. She does however step back and allow them to leave if that's what they finally decided to do. She moves back over toward Yin, keeping enough distance that if she needs to fight again she has the room to do so.
Brooke Harris The ones still able to move... turn and run for it, the one you hit grabbing his bag on the way.

Yin watches them leave, then glances down at the one she knocked silly. "I'll get this one on his way. How are you doing?" She kneels down, looks him over, and stards massaging a couple of spots on his back and arm with a finger. Color starts coming back into his face, pretty quickly. He coughs and groans.

Yin shushes him. "You lost. I am going to speed your healing and relax your diafraghm so you can breathe better. You really should see somebody about that mole on your back before it gets bad. What posessed you to think this was a good idea? Do not answer that. Just never return again or I will NOT be merciful. I know who you are. I know who taught you."
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley smiles faintly, "I'm fine. That wasn't hard at all. Though I think I am not quite as ready as I thought mentally." Taking a deep breath she watches the work being done on the felled fighter. She watches attentively, curiously, as the pressure points are applied. It was far beyond her current capabilities but that doesn't mean she couldn't pick up a trick or two by paying attention. "That's pretty handy."
Brooke Harris Yin nods and helps him up. "It takes a LOT of training to get to that point. Most people will never get there. The few who can, usually don't put in the time." She helps him down the fire escape. "I think that's our stupid attack of the night. I know their teacher. He's a real Cobra-Kai idiot." She shoos him off. "Your friends left you behind. Give them hell."

She looks you over critically. "You said you aren't ready. Explain. What have you learned?"
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley watches Yin lead the man off to his own safety. Crossing her arms she considers, tipping her head to the side. The motion reminds her that she's still wearing the bandana and tugs it down to take a bigger breath without the cloth in the way. "I've thought and thought of how I'd handle a situation similar to the one I was in, or if I ran into some criminals. I hadn't really considered how I would act in a situation like what we just had. They were just some stupid punks. Not really dangerous." Her head shakes lightly. "Just mean I should start thinking of how to handle more situations than the most obvious."
Brooke Harris Yin nods. "Most situations aren't a straight up fight situation. What would you do if you saw somebody being dosed with Zerk? And yes. These were punks. You have to learn to read the room." She looks you over again. "You've been working out a lot, I see. Building up some strength. Come over here." She beckons you over, measuring you up with her eyes. "Can I touch you?"
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley frowns at that question. "Try to get them help, mostly, but otherwise... another thing to think about," she has to admit with a knowing nod. She moves closer without thinking, and gives a nod of agreement. "I've been pushing myself to catch up to the other students. And doing some running, and other things." There was more free time now that school was on break. The question earns a small dip of her head. "Of course."
Brooke Harris Yin glances you over a little. "Breathe. You'll need it. And you'll need water. If you are hungry for protein, don't be surprised. This will ache." She reaches over and firmly pushes her finger into a couple of spots on your neck, shoulders, arm, hand, slowly working down and examining you, looking through you in a way. The achy muscles and stiff joints feel flushed and hot, and you feel like you are getting some exercize in just standing there. Muscles start loosening up. She hums a little, concentrating on what she's doing. "Aching muscles are damaged muscles. They heal stronger. There's a nerve part too. You have to learn how to use the muscles you have."
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley sucks in a quick breath... and lets it out slowly when told to breath deep. She does so, about to nod but just holds still instead. The feeling of her muscles, sore as they were, suddenly flush with heat was difficult. "That... that's really weird, but... thank you." Another deep breath is drawn to help settle that feeling. "I guess I should head home and rest after this."
Brooke Harris Yin nods and leans down to put an extra focus on your legs, since those are the sorest bits after some running, and you sort of not quite really twisted your ankle-ish earlier. She prods a bit at your calf and thigh in spots, clinically, before rising, leaving the muscles and joints of your lower body that you were working on all kinds of hot and loose and flaring with sensations that are not traditionally considered pleasant. "Yes. Pain, balance, and other sensations are a language from your body to you. Be more fluent, and eventually you can talk back to it and tell it what to do. Yoga, qigong, some kinds of meditation. Some day I will be able to show you a thing or two about how to do that. Listening to the aches is something you can do every day. Now... I'm sure you wanted to get back before people start to worry about you?"
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley allows Yin to do the work on her body. This would be interesting to see how she felt the next day, but for now she was just beginning to feel thirsty from the heat in her muscles. "Oh, I don't think anyone would miss me being out, but I do have things to take care of tomorrow. Thank you again. I hope your friend stays out of trouble." Stepping back, she dips low into a bow for Yin, before turning to head off down the fire escape herself.
Brooke Harris Yin nods. "Get some sleep." She watches you go quietly, then moves to see where you go next, making sure you are safe as least as far as she can see you. After a bit, she vanishes herself.
