Carrie Kelley After the encounter on the rooftop that Carrie had with Yin, and sussing out the identity behind that mask thanks to several dropped clues, she had contacted Brooke to talk. It was a bit later once she'd had a lot of time to think about the situation and her own actions regarding it. This wasn't just a meeting to talk though; she'd gotten takeout from one of the restaurants here which she currently had in a plastic bag beside her as she sits perched atop one of the nearby roofs just watching the neighborhood below. The scent of the various Italian places here wafted up mixing and mingling making it all the more difficult to ignore the takeout by her side as she waits.
Brooke Harris Yin has obviously been working on her Batman impression or something.

One moment, you are alone, hearing nothing but the noise of the city and the wind. Then a familiar voice softly murmurs from right behind you, "You remembered. So, what did you bring me today?" Yin smiles under her mask, watching you to see just how you react to her appearance, having walked silently up upon you when you weren't looking that way.
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley tenses with a quick inhalation of breath that she lets out slowly rather than screaming or doing something equally silly. After all she knew that voice by now. Turning toward Yin a grin is flashed and she gestures at the bag. "Veggie-balls and spaghetti bread. Honestly never heard of it before, but it looks interesting and smells great. I figured it would be easy to eat on the go if needed," she adds. "I think the spaghetti bread is just spaghetti pressed into a bread mold with some cheese and baked. They included marinara to dip it in."
Brooke Harris Yin mmms and nods. She slips in and sniffs at the food thoughtfully, then nods and lifts her mask. "Offering accepted." She grins at you and examines a veggie ball thoughtfully, tilting her head at it before nibbling at it carefully. So ironic that the same control that makes her able to survive sipping poison also makes her have to use that same ability to tolerate cheap cooking oil.

"So, I assume this isn't *just* a social call. Not that I don't enjoy hanging out, but that isn't quite the impression your message gave."
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley watches the sampling of the food with a fair amount of amusement at the effort. At least in this area, it was likely that the cooking was on par and not fast and cheap. Even if she'd gotten items that weren't exactly expensive on the menu. "Not entirely. I was curious about what happened last time at the dojo," she explains with a small shrug. "I just wanted to know what got you into this sort of thing? I've been thinking a lot about something similar though I'm hardly as adept at fighting as you so far."
Brooke Harris Yin nods and munches quietly. "That particular time." She takes another veggie ball and samples it, "She is a new teacher. She was just given the reins of a new school by her lineage; she is a little bit controversial. She focuses a lot on structure, form, things like that before she moves to sparring. Those guys' teacher starts heavy on sparring. He's a bit of a jerk, and his students are, well. Predictable. They just see a gi-iiirl who likes forms practice, and he was just snubbed for advancement. Their teacher mentioned the situation to one of his teachers, and that teacher called me. Then I wandered through and noticed.." She gestures at her belly.

She thinks a bit. "I've worked with a number of teachers. For the last few years, as equals. I'm really really fast at picking this stuff up. Elder masters can't just drop everything and check on their students all the time."
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley considers that as she listens to the explanation quietly. One of the veggieballs is picked up with a toothpick herself, and she nibbles on it thoughtfully. "That makes sense. So you look out for them when they can't. I honestly didn't know that whole dojo rivalry thing was actually an issue outside of teen drama movies, but I guess when you're dealing with a bunch of testosterone riddled kids who know how to fight it could come up." Grinning faintly she adds, "I hope I didn't get in the way much. I wasn't really expecting that at all. I've been working more on my own practice since."
Brooke Harris Yin nods. After a moment, she offers, "It was a learning opportunity." More silence and another veggie ball gets eaten. "I hope you learned more from it after a bit of rest, too." She considers the next bit.

"There aren't very many people I can learn from any more. The people who can, mostly don't want money. At this point, I am mostly teaching myself. That takes variety. I can learn some things by teaching.. but not everything. There are things I want to discover and pass on."
Carrie Kelley That causes Carrie to tip her head curiously at Yin. "Like what? I mean, if you want to tell me," she adds with a rueful smile. "I know we haven't known one another overly long yet, but I'd like to think we're friends. I'm not about to go telling anyone about your 'job' here, either." Just in case that were a concern to Yin. It stood to reason that a secret identity should remain secret.
Brooke Harris Yin idly comments, "Your blood pressure is a little bit lower than last time. You didn't get a great night of sleep last night. Sleep cleans the brain. Lots of people die or suffer from conditions that would be easy to cure if they just payed attention to their body a bit more closely. Some of them are doing everything right. And there's a lot of other things like that."

She considers. "Have you ever seen 'The Incredibles'?" She nibbles another vegetable ball, and hmms. "I take a couple of minutes a day in meditation and cycle various hormones through the chemical conversion cycle. I can stop myself from bleeding and speed up my healing process. I'm not a mutant, I wasn't blasted by radiation, I don't have computers screwed to my skeleton. I learned how to do this on my own. Anything I can learn? I can teach, eventually. If I can teach it? Somebody else can learn how to teach it."

She grins and tilts her head at you and mimics, "And when EVERYBODY is super? NOONE will be." She shrugs a little bit. "Minus the ridiculous secret island base and murders and stuff, you know."
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley blinks several times as the news of her own current state of health is rattled off. "Ah... Yeah I was up late gaming last night. I decided to take some time off and do something fun for myself," she adds with a sheepish grin. Running a hand back over her head she considers this with a long, thoughtful nod. "I see. That's... Really cool actually. And useful. Though," she drawls thoughtfully, "I'd say not everyone would want to put in the effort to learn that. You'd probably want to find someone who could dedicate themselves seriously to it." She chews on the inside of her cheek. "I'd like to learn it. I know there's a lot I still need to learn, but... It helps having goals too."
Brooke Harris Yin nods. "I know." She hmms. "There's a few other people looking at things at this level, but, well. They have different things going on. Different goals. They want power. Strength. Control. Wealth. I would rather let everybody have things. Quiet change."

She nods. "We can see how you do. You might choose to do something else, and that's your choice. But I am willing to teach you what I can." She hmms. "You are going to need a lot of work to get to the level where you are really ready to learn. What are you willing to do to reach that level?"
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley pops another of the veggie balls in her mouth while listening to Yin. It wasn't the same as a meatball but she had to admit it was pretty tasty at least. "I could say 'anything' or 'whatever it takes', but that's a bit cliche. I'm willing to do what's needed to learn." Smiling faintly she looks out over the city. "I've had plenty of time to think about why I want to do this. I wasn't even willing to admit it to myself at first. It's not about power, or strength, though those are nice. It's not even about not being a victim anymore. It's about doing what I can, because others can't."

"I've been pretty lucky in my life. I've worked hard to get where I am, and I've had goals, but I never really had a purpose. Then that night... It was like a switch was flipped and I realized I want to help. There's so many ways to do that, I know, I've considered them all." Looking down to her hand she flexes it into a fist then relaxes it again with fingers splaying wide. "This just feels right for me."
Brooke Harris Yin nods and considers the pasta bread a bit, nibbling on it a bit thoughtfully. "It's good, but a bit more carbs than I really need right now." She nibbles a bit.

"There are a few things you are going to need. You need to get your body ready. I can help with that. You won't like it."
You need to learn how to understand your own body. I'm still deciding the best way to teach you that part. You probably wouldn't like them."
Then you can start being sensitive to the world around you. That part might even be fun."

"I'm deciding how best to arrange your training. If you want to come back with me, it might be easiest. Maybe there is something else I can do. Always be open to opportunity. Let me know what you are ready for."
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley grins at the mention of the bread. "Yeah that seems heavy even for me. I'm probably going to try some later though. Seems like one of those things you just have to try at least once in your life." As the rest is explained she listens, and nods here and there. "Sounds like a plan then. I'll take whatever you throw my way." There's a stubborn edge to her remark, but she's sincere about it at least. She probably will hate it. She'll also do it. "Thanks for giving me the chance."
Brooke Harris Yin nods and rises. "I'll be in touch." She hmms. "I'm still working on the dissapearing act." She chuckles a bit and gives your shoulder an affectionate squeeze. "Get that sleep. I'll talk to you soon."
