Tyler Grant Despite it being a weekday night the burger place is still pretty busy. There's a variety of people there, teenagers enjoying their summer break, a couple of elderly folks recapturing their youth, some cops taking a break from their beat to get something to eat. The scene is surprisingly wholesome.

Outside the restaurant Tyler and Erika arrive on the back of the youth's Fatboy. Once the motorcycle is parked and the helmets are resting on it the teenage boy speaks to his friend, "How'd you like the ride? Pretty sweet bike, right? My grandfather had awesome taste."

Inside of the burger joint a couple of people can be seen checking out the motorcycle through the glass. It's not exactly a subtle vehicle.
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir nods and grins. "Maybe sometime I can get something like that. I can't get a driver's license yet though. So like, all I can get is little teeny bicycle type things."

She shrugs some. "Not that bicycle things are, you know, bad or anything." She looks around and hmms, "So, um, what's good here anyways?"
Tyler Grant "When you get your motorcycle permit I'll let you take it for a spin," Tyler tells Erika, smiling when he sees how happy she seems to be. "Those scooter type deals are fun. A dude at my gym has a Vespa he let me take for a spin. Not very much power to them, but they're good for getting around on."

Opening the door into the restaurant and holding it for his friend, Tyler says, "Burgers here are pretty good. They do all sorts of toppings on them, depending on what you want. I liked the one with guacamole on it. I've only been here once before, though. The fries are cooked just right and the shakes are on point." He warns, "Apparently the salads suck."
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir nods and looks around at who else is here, and how they might be looking at us. She hmms... "Do we know anybody here? They're not going to like, start weird rumors or anything, right?"

She finds a table and plops her helmet down, then grabs a menu and looks it over, biting her lip.
Tyler Grant Looking around to see if he can spot any familiar faces, Tyler tells Erika, "No, I don't see anybody I recognize. We should be safe from rumor mongers." He follows her to the table and slides into the seat across from hers, leaning back in it and setting his helmet on the seat next to him. As he picks up his own menu he says, "The other time I came here it was on a date with Clarissa. You know, the junior with the fairy wings? We went to the movies first to see some chick flick, she talked the whole time we were there and then suggested we come here and just got a salad, had about four bites of it and talked about how much she hates social media. Then she immediately started posting on Facebook." There's a head shake then. "She's hot and all, but I don't think she's my type."
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir nods a lot. "I don't know anything much about her. I think I saw her in the hall or something?" She tries to think about who you are talking about. "Yeah, I haven't talked to her. Who are you looking at now?"
Tyler Grant "I kind of wish I was more like other guys and not so interested in finding someone I'm compatible with and all that," Tyler shrugs his shoulders. Then he lets out a little sigh and looks around, "I promised her I wouldn't tell anyone about us, not that there is an us, but I'm really hung up on her. I mean, all we've done is kiss, but I..." The kid trails off. "And she's not over this ex of hers and says she might not ever be. He actually told me to pursue her, but now I'm getting worried that maybe he wants her back, too, or maybe they're already together again."
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir sighs. "That sucks. It seems like totally a between your ears problem though. I'm... Not as sure how to deal with that?"

She picks out a burger. "I think I want this mushroom Swiss thing today. What's the fries like? Hmm, and just water is fine for me." She hmms and thinks more. "And.. I'm not sure guys aren't like? I mean, they talk big, but they get super broken up over girls when I see them."

She thinks, then pulls out her notepad and flips to an empty page. "It doesn't sound like she's as into you as you are into her though. I mean, if it's not there, it's not there. You know? I mean, who else looks good?"
Tyler Grant "You're right. It's all in my head," Tyler replies, leaning forward to rest his weight on his elbows as he goes back to looking at the menu.

"The fries are the usual kind, I guess. The thick, golden kind, not the skinny ones you get at fast food places," he explains. "The mushroom Swiss sounds good but I think I'm going to go with the bleu cheese. That tastes so good with tomatoes." His shoulders shrug, "I know guys get upset too, but so many of them talk about 'hit it and quit it' or stuff like that and I can't even play like that. Or one night stands. If I sleep with someone I'd like it mean something."

"Yeah. She told me to ask her, made the first move when we kissed, but I guess maybe she wasn't taking it as seriously as I did," there's a deep sigh. "There are plenty of good looking girls, but I'm usually pretty shy about asking them out. I try to be a good friend, but that's because I didn't really have any at my old school and I don't want to mess it up. I've never had a steady girlfriend before and I'm super nervous about the whole thing."
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir sighs exasperatedly, "Yeah see, that's what I mea, they talk big. I mean like.. The girls I talk to aren't exactly having a lot of one night stands and shit right? So who the heck do you think the guys are doing stuff with? Probably just their hand and a damn fish story, right?"

She doodles some stuff, diagramming her thoughts. "So like picture it, she's like, 'Well maybe, he seems nice', and she goes for a kiss and what. None of that electricity stuff people talk about, right? So she totally just puts you on ghost because she - likes - you, just... Not how you hoped. And it's not like she's lined up with someone better right now. Does that sound about right? Let's get some food."
Tyler Grant "That makes sense," Tyler admits. "I know a lot of it's all talk, but the way they talk about it makes it sound like they'd prefer it that way." He shrugs, "It's whatever."

Then as Erika speaks Tyler nods his head along with her words, "That's got to be it. I mean, she hasn't ghosted me, we're still friends, but no more romantic stuff. And she might have someone better than me." Another shrug. At the suggestion of food Tyler nods, "Yeah, let's put in our order, I'm starving."

As they get up to go to the counter to order Tyler asks, "You know any girls you think might be a good match for me? If not, it's cool, I don't want to put you on the spot."
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir uhs, thinking. "Yeah, I don't get guys. They're just.. Weird, you know? Anyway.. Not yet? I mean, I don't know what you like or anything. I wouldn't have thought you were into Clarissa. Anyways, it doesn't matter what I think. I'll just try to see if I hear any gossip. Not that I hear much of it. I'm not at any cool tables or anything right now."
Tyler Grant When they finally arrive at the counter Tyler lets Erika go ahead so that she can order first. He nods his head, "Dudes are weird, but I kind of think we're more straightforward than girls, but maybe that's just because I'm not worried around guys so much." His hand slides into his pocket so he can pull out his wallet and get his debit card ready to pay. "I'm not even sure what I like, if I'm honest. I wasn't even really into Clarissa, but she came onto me and I decided to ask her out and see how it went. I guess that's how I work, just try stuff and see if it works."
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir nods, "So like, try somebody else out. It's a date, not a wedding." She looks up, "I'm getting a mushroom Swiss burger with fries and all the usual stuff, please. And some water."

She moves out of the way so you can order, and shushes so she doesn't interrupt. She pays for hers, gets water, tries casually to switch her gloves for a pair of plastic food service gloves without drawing attention.
Tyler Grant "Blue cheese burger, fries, chocolate shake and a water, please," Tyler tells the person at the counter before he pays for himself, grabs his water and moves to follow Erika. "I'm really scared of getting shot down. I probably seem pretty cool most of the time, but I'm nervous as hell around most girls. Maybe I'll just give it a shot with the next pretty girl I talk to, other than you." He pauses for a second and his brow furrows, "I wonder what Laura's doing tomorrow."
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir phsh, "Why limit it to pretty? There's a lot of awesome average girls out there too. Sometimes someone has, like, a cool skill or something and that makes them super hot. Or they don't look like much but you spend some time with them and suddenly you can't stop thinking about them. Anyways, what's the worst thing that can happen? She says 'Nah, I'm good'? What would you do if like.. Penny asked you out? OK, bad example since she doesn't talk but you know what I mean." She gulps some water.
Tyler Grant "That's true. I guess I always saw myself falling for someone really hot, but that shouldn't be my only criteria," Tyler says thoughtfully, taking a drink from his cup. "If I feel like I get along with someone and that we might be able to fit together I should give it a try." He nods to Erika, "You're a wise person, my friend. And if Penny asked me out I'd say 'yes'. One date isn't going to hurt, right?"
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir looks dubious. "... It's *Penny*. Stitches might be needed. But like, I dunno, somebody who you just knew wasn't work already. Or maybe you were already seeing somebody. Or like.. I don't know, what if one of the guys asked you out?" She waves a French fry, punctuating a bit in the small space in front of her face before eating it.
Tyler Grant "I'd only need stitches if we messed around. Going out for a coffee with her wouldn't kill me," Tyler tells Erika, smiling slightly. "If someone I knew I wasn't going to be compatible with asked me out then I'd turn them down, probably." He pauses and looks distressed for a moment, "Or maybe not. I really don't know. One time I got asked out by one of the guys from my gym. We were finished with appetizers before I even realized it was a date, I just thought it was a friendly get together. I felt so bad telling him I wasn't interested that I waited until he went in for a kiss." Tyler sighs. "I'm a mess. I might literally go on a date with someone I don't like because I don't want to hurt their feelings. What the hell is wrong with me?"
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir hmms. "Well, how do you think we feel? It's pretty much the same thing, right? You wouldn't do anything to someone else that would wreck you, so I wouldn't worry too much about getting shot down. I mean, they might say 'No thanks'. Dude, you have had people shoot guns at you, are you seriously worried about some girls saying 'No thank you'? "
Tyler Grant "Yeah. That makes sense," Tyler nods. "And when you put it that way I guess it's not that big a deal in the scheme of things." There's a soft chuckle from him, "The fact I might be more comfortable dodging bullets than asking someone is pretty nuts when you think about it." With a grin on his face he goes on, "I'll try to find someone to ask out soon. Worst that happens is they say 'no thanks' and I move on.
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir nods, "Totally." She munches her burger. Mouth temporarily too busy to add to the conversation. Yummy.
Tyler Grant Tyler digs into his own food, plowing into his burger with abandon. As he chews through it he nods his head and makes an 'mmm' noise, clearly pleased. After a chance to swallow his food he says, "Thanks for talking to me about this stuff. It feels good to have a different perspective on things."
Erika Kristasdottir Erika Kristasdottir nods, washing some food down. "Oh, no problem! And I've dated some guys I wasn't in to before. So don't think you're weird for doing that. One guy I didn't even like as a friend, and I just let it drag on and on. I mean, people figure you have to be dating someone, right? And he just kept asking. So you're totally not even weird there."
Tyler Grant "I never figured someone had to be dating or whatever," says Tyler. "I didn't really have friends in my old school, though, so I kind of missed out on a lot of that stuff. I mostly hung out with guys from the gym and most of them are older than I am." He starts in on his fries, popping them into his mouth one at a time. The milkshake is used to wash them down, "I like being friends with you. It's good to talk to you."
