Kate Kane Hamilton Arms does occasionally run internal events, for their most valued clientelle. Which means there are a few generals, several corporate giants, a few representatives from all the major families and some faces that are significantly harder to recognise without some detailed intelligence files. Dinner was served, drinks as well, and the upscale, extremely private function room seems to have settled in for the magic act that will serve part entertainment, part distraction from the continued need to make polite conversation with people that they normally wouldn't spend a lot of time with.

Kate is wearing black, a relatively formal pants suit instead of her normal knock-out style dresses, sitting on a couch opposite a relatively severe looking man with a scar across his cheek that just barely nicks his eyelid. "It will be off the books, of course... Consider it a favour, in exchange for our more... Select catalogue. Bring it back to your agents, and let me know if you'll be willing to comply."
Zatanna Zatara Zatanna Zatara is an expensive get for the function. She herself is not going to get rich off of the gig, because all that money is going to charity. But considering her name value, visibility, and touring schedule, it costs a lot to nail down a date. It'll look good in the PR, though, both to show that Hamilton Arms CAN get celebrities to drop what they're doing and come do a privately attended magic show, and to let Zatanna attach her name to a big charity donation.

Sure, Zatanna's social media will be blowing up with some people complaining about her choice to entertain an arms manufacturer, but she doesn't run her own accounts anyway.

The show lasts about a half hour, and is mostly audience participation stuff. Zatanna brings people up on stage, tells them to pick a card, then has them reach into her hat which is overflowing with a hundred of their card, that kind of thing. The grand finale is one of the new Hamilton weapons being brought out on stage, a high-powered rifle that the company is supplying to the military thanks to a fat new contract. A trained Hamilton rifle specialist is brought out, and after some patter, Zatanna stands across the stage, opens her mouth...

...and catches the bullet in her teeth.

After the show, the Princess of Prestidigitation is hobnobbing with the crowd, making good on the part of her agreement that says she'll hang out for a while and get some face time in with various corporate bigwigs.
Kate Kane It's an interesting show, and it even manages to captivate Miss Kane at points. Partially because the extremely perceptive young heiress seems confused as she tries to work out precisely what's gone on onstage, and it even provokes a short conversation with the General Kane. And at the end of the show, she makes her way over to the heeled magician, an indulgent smile as she catches her attention and offers her a glass of champagne that is significantly more expensive than most charity fundraisers would allow.

"Miss Zatara, I'm so glad you could make it after all. Quite a show you put on there, it's been a long time since a trick made me scratch my head like that." A gentle laugh, before she sips from her own. "So, how do you like our menagerie?" A menagerie it is. Some are drinking finest champagne. Others, beer. Tiny organic heirloom quiches that some are eating in a single bite.

"I'm quite liking the mixture of high society and people who simply cannot give a fuck." Another smile.
Zatanna Zatara Zatanna accepts the champagne. She definitely stands out in the room, because everyone else who's wearing a tuxedo is wearing one that has complete pants. The dark-haired magician smiles, and nods to Kate's comments about her act. "Then I've done my job," she says, with a wink.

Surveying the room, Zatanna nods. "It's a good crowd, I suppose. I'll be honest, I'm not really up on the who's who of this particular set of folks. Usually when I do these big-ticket private shows it's for, you know, Bono's daughter's quinceanera or something."
Kate Kane "That sounds even more dull than here might." Kate remarks, taking solace in a mouthful of champagne. Definitely not her first, although she still takes time to savour it. "And to think, I thought I wouldn't enjoy the show. I find that I'm suprised less and less, but I'm glad I found something interesting in you."

She easily loops an arm through Zatanna's, whether she's been invited to or not. "Well. We have the Generals, military, and then the General, my father. The CEO's of our affiliates, and the CEO of Hamilton Arms, my mother. And then we have our affiliated PMCs, our guests of honor, and a few prospective big ticket clients." A snap introduction.
Zatanna Zatara Zatanna doesn't flinch when her arm is taken. She's cast aside her fear of strangers grabbing her over the years. It helps tremendously that if some entertainment executive grabs her butt, then one muttered spell later, and the next morning he'll find hair growing out of his palms. "A-ha~. So suits, suits, uniforms, and more suits," she smiles.
Kate Kane "It's easier if you play a game of 'rented tux'." Kate observes pointedly, before she begins to walk Zatanna with her, towards a narrow balcony. Because escorting the entertainment away from where she might be distracted is perfectly reasonable. "I don't suppose I could convince Miss Magician to give up her secrets though? I'll be spending most of the night trying to work out how you could have possibly performed that bullet catch the way you did."
Zatanna Zatara "The real secret?" Zatanna slips her arm out of Kate's so that she can take off her top hat. She runs one hand along its brim. "Well. I don't know if I should..." She pretends to think about it for a moment. "...well... okay. The REAL secret..." Zee leans in close, to whisper. "...is if you don't tell people how it's done, they'll buy another ticket, to watch it again and try to figure it out."

Zatanna leans back and smiles politely. "Sorry, but it really is a trade secret."
Kate Kane Kate seems genuinely invested. Or she's putting on a show of her own, leaning in a little, excitement flashing in her eyes as she considers the possibility of actually hearing how this particular version is done. And then she's led on, and on, and left wanting. A giggle follows, "Oh, you are /awful/. Well then, how many tickets do I need to buy to learn this secret? No sleight of hand, no secreted bullet, and I know for a fact you didn't have a chance to create a decent replica."

"A less pessimistic soul might think it was real magic." With her hands now free, she places her hands on the rail instead, and looks out over a city she's used so used to seeing from this height.
Zatanna Zatara "You can buy as many tickets as you like, and I'll still tell you that the secret to catching a high-powered rifle round in your teeth is to brush twice a day to keep your tooth enamel strong," Zatanna says with a grin. (She DOES look like she brushes twice a day...) "I really do appreciate the interest... and I'm glad my show got such a reaction out of you, because that means I haven't lost my mojo yet...! But I don't trick and tell~."
Kate Kane "As long as you don't expect me to fangirl out and start following you everywhere you go." Kate responds, showing teeth that are equally white and sparkling. "I've got work to do, after all, and hanging around like a forgotten ex might only get me a restraining order." A soft sigh escapes her lips, and she turns to the side to regard the Magician with a slightly more full glance. "I suppose I'll google it until I pass out tonight. I assume you've got better plans."
