Tom Corporations often merge or aquire smaller companies but splitting is a bit of a rarer event; but in this case Harsis Inc has had a major and painful divorce between the two largest stakeholders in the Gemini family. It has taken over a year, but after a great deal of work they managed to make it work. After a lot of meticulous decisions, sometimes ridiculous or petty the company has split to Harsis Blue or Harsis Red, except for one critical piece of critical R&D located in a warehouse in Abjur, NJ, a small hamlet about fifty miles from NYC. There are several smaller experiments, but the one that is most important to each are physically located in the same area. The problem is that in the negotiations, both companies treated this unit as one indivisible location. A peaceful dissolution HAD been possible, but is now out of the question. To any vigilante with ties to the underworld, the number of mercinaries being recruited would send a spike by itself but to anyone with advanced pattern recognition skills it would send an even larger alarm given the fact that two DIFFERENT 'Mr Johnsons' are hiring for the same job at the same place at the same time.
Oliver Queen Normally, Green Arrow wouldn't be anywhere near this sort of thing. Oliver deals in corporate politics way too much in his day job already... tonight, though... is different.

Not only has Harsis Inc been on Queen Consolidateds radar for months with Queen interested in acquisition of his own... but he's aware of some of the details for the R&D being done, and he has a vested interest in keeping the warehouse from being turned into a warzone.

Still, that does means leaving behind Starling for a few days at least for travel and stakeout time.

When night -and the appointed time- arrive, Green Arrow is already within the perimeter, having stealthed his way onto the rooftop of the complex with technology and clever use of gadget arrows.

Now, he waits, his night vision goggles on instead of the usual domino mask under the hood as he waits for disturbances.
Tom It's an odd display to say the least; based on how they are equipped, these guys are top of the line. They have semi automatic weapons, with a few enenergy weapons showing up on IR given the high end heat signature such weapons tend to show unless specially designed, but...they are both gathering in crowds on two ends of the warehouse. First indications might be someone who knows how to find good help but no idea how to direct it.

But there is still something else a bit...off on this.

The regular security guard changes. This guy looks like a typical low level corporate security guard not even armed, with a cup of coffee. He is blissfully unaware of what the other two are doing and walks in while the guy he is replacing walks out.

A large black van, featureless and without windows drives up. The door slides open and three burly guys get out in ski masks and are walking in. The two teams of mercs mulling about on either side of the ware house now straighen up and are talknig amongst each other, nervous but not acting. Yet.
Oliver Queen That van gets a tracker arrow that buries itself into the structure, out of sight. Green Arrow will deal with that later.

The thing that has his attention is the talking... and a recording arrow is taken from the mechanical quiver and launched above both groups. One is recording to memory, while another is recording to memory /and/ autotranslating into his ear commlink. He's very interested in finding out what these people are up to before he goes overt.
Tom The conversation going on in both groups is...interesting to say the least.

"Who the HELL are those guys?"

"What do you mean that we have to wait for a divorce attorney, are you KIDDING?"

"Did they say what COLOR the vial was supposed to be?"

The team leader on the right says, "Yes, that's right. They're still trying to negotiate this out. I don't know if this is grey legal or flat out wetworks. They just want us on standby. And I don't know who those guys are, but part of the retainer was not acting until we were told so stay we are."

Meanwhile the team leader on the left says, "You need to make sure you show the red ...but nothing identifying the company. Yes, that's insane, but they're paying top dollar for a milk run. Well, it was a milk run until those guys showed up. Yes, that's why we're using rubber bullets. It's one f*cking big nerf gun battle."

The guys in the black masks ignore the two bands of mercs on either side and walk right in through the front door.
Oliver Queen "I swear I'm in the middle of a looney toons show." Green Arrow mutters to himself as he listens to the two. Still, they're not moving yet... and the black maskers are.

Dropping down from the rooftop to land gracefully near the entryway the new guys go in from, Green Arrow stealthily starts to follow, casually placing a motion sensor next to the entrance to alert him if anyone comes in from behind.

Time to get to work.
Tom Tom is having a sandwich and driving a car. The fact that he has not crashed the car is due to his carful attention to detail and driving well under the speed limit. He only takes a bite of the sandwhich while stopped and has come to this small hamlet to get an ingredient for a transport ritual to take him to Norway. The curse never sleeps, however and is 'annoyed' at his caution this slowly pulling strands of threads to make this no only a bad day for Tom but a VERY bad day indeed. Tom drives right next to the warehouse in question as the two bands of mercinaries are getting more agitated and begin to check and recheck their weaponry.

As Green Arrow follows behind the black masked individuals, they have not yet noticed him but are holding a gun on the sole guard. "Give us the keys to the safe."

"I'm TELLING you, there is no safe. This is a warehouse for a lab, yes, it's a secure facility but we don't have a SAFE."

"This is your last warning....
Oliver Queen Wonderful, hostage takers. All of them are going to have to go down quickly too.

A number of regular armor-piercing arrows are constructed and nooked on the compound bow in Green Arrows hand, and all at once are loosed in rapid succession at the thugs. First, the immediate threat of the weapons are dealt with, then limbs and those around the guard are disabled as much as possible as Green Arrow breaks cover and is rapidly closing the distance. Shock and awe tactics are the key here.

By the time the last arrow is fired, he's within melee range, and transitions his bow to a staff to get to work. Those not already disabled are quickly in melee combat with the Emerald Archer.
Tom The thugs in question are bottom feeders at best. Normally, the arrow would be able to dispatch them with easy, but there's just plenty of bad luck going on right now and so two of them are positioned in such a way that they are pinned to nothing. Skill outweighs luck here so all three are disarmed, but only one is rubbing his wrist in pain when he closes into melee combat with the other two.

Tom is just about to take a bite of his sandwhich when the other two groups break into it. Like breaking from a huddle in a flag football game they spread out onto both sides of the warehouse but THESE mercinaries are very component even if being used by mental midgets and four of them use grappels to head to the high ground immediately while two more (on each side) are using shapped charges to enter the warehouse. Two more are moving to secure the front but see each other and open at full auto (one) and a set of three round bursts, causing several bullets to shatter all the windows in Tom's car and fill his sandwhich with glass.
Remy LeBeau Remy LeBeau had been approached by /both/ factions to commit the robbery. He's supposed to be retired from that game however, gone straight, playing on the side of the angels. And besides it sounded seriously like amateur hour. So what is he doing here tonight? Why he's trying to steal vial himself. Something that many people are willing to spend that much money to keep out of other people's hands...well he'll let Hank analyze it. So as the mercenaries are posturing and making all the noise and bluster, the Cajun master Thief silently works the safe..
Oliver Queen A quick staff sweep sends both the immediate threats to the ground, leaving Green Arrow room to rush right at the last one to plant the end of the bow-staff directly into his head as Green Arrow works to keep the security guard clear of danger. "Might want to get out of dodge, buddy." Green Arrow quips to the former hostage, his voice modulator just barely heard as he turns around and faces the two he left behind. They're almost certainly up by now, and he's ready to fight.

"Black Canary, I'm going to need you to run interference with the others outside, we have a third group in here that tried to bypass the warzone outside, and I'm keeping them busy."
Black Canary Black Canary sighs softly. "What a _mess_," she mutters softly as she is studying the mess. "This is from a LAW FIRM breakup?" She had just arrived on the scene on her antique Harley as she is just trying to make sense of what's going on. Something about a vial or... something?
Traci 13     Traci hasn't been in the city long, but she came for a reason -- to acquire a book of spells from a less-than-reputable book dealer who goes by the attractive moniker Fleurmp. Because he fancies himself as dealing in high-end goods, he does his business in an ever rotating series of locations, and the stars have aligned so that it's very near a location of Importance. Traci's Fate Sense is throbbing as she concludes her deal with Fleurmp, the details of which are probably best left abstract and vague.

Following the throbbing sensation of 'Something is Gonna Happen' that thrums through her body, Traci stows her book into her messenger bag of holding and slings it around her body to rest behind her back as Leroy -- her iguana familiar -- rides on her shoulder. "Whatcha thinkin' it'll be, Leroy?" she asks him. If he replies, it can't be heard by anyone but Traci. She does give him a bit of a side glance as she walks quicker toward the mystical signal she's picking up. The closer she gets to the spot where all this is happening, the stronger the thrumming, the quicker the magickal tempo.
Tom Tom is tempted to get involved in the mayhem involving explosions and conflicting mercinaries, but frankly, he has more important work to do in stopping whoever or whatever is responsible for the sleeping sickness. He pulls the car to the side (driving was a terrible idea anyway) and walks the rest of the way to the occult store to get what he needs.

The two teams of six continue to move with precision. Its obvious that they have practiced this extensively and one of the two snipers on the roof knocks the other out despite the Rubber bullets. The two heavies on either side get into the warehouse rather quickly, two going for the safe and the other two laying down suppressive fire.

The security guard doesnt need to be told twice and leaves immediately on Green Arrow's suggestion.

There is a definitive magical feeling to what Traci feels, though the epicenter of it is walking down the street next to the parked car. She sees two teams of mercs fighting it out and can feel lingering fate magic on all of them. SOMEONE caused this to happen, but that someone is leaving.

Remy is able to make short work of the safe. Its a ridiculously sophisticated system and quite expensive. But of course, they used 1234 as their password making the whole thing ridiculously easy to open. There are about twenty items inside, 18 of which are tagged with red or blue tags, biological samples. Two larger ones are unlabeled. It is a tissue sample but immediately unclear as to what it might be.
Oliver Queen "You have two choices. You can fight me and probably lose, or you can leave the way you came and save us both the headache." Green Arrow brings up his staff into a defensive position, shifting his stance to ground himself against incoming assaults. "You have five seconds to run before I put you on the ground." Green Arrow growls over the voice modulator.

He has better things to do with his time... but he needs to be sure these three are out of play.... and so he waits in the hallway, staff just behind his back ready for an offensive swing.
Remy LeBeau "C'est une sorte de combinaison qu'un idiot mettrait sur ses bagages." mutters softly to himself as he pops the safe door open. He glances to where all the noises are coming from for only a moment. Then he pulls what looks for all intents and puropses like a black gym bag out of his coat. He carefully places all the vials, including the unlabled ones, into the bag. Then he pulls out a small canister about the size of a "bug bomb". Popping it open into the bag, the bag quickly fills with a lightweight quick drying foam, encasing the vials in it. Finally before closing the safe door he places a small stuffed rabbit. That ought to leave them scratching their heads.
Black Canary Black Canary starts to patrol the perimeter of the combat zone, using her Harley for quick movements, setting up roadblocks to keep civilians from the area. She sighs as she is listening to Ollie over her headset. "Let me know if you need me in there," she says over the mic, as she tugs a bit on the choker around her throat. She sees a schoolbus and vrooms towards it, parking in the middle of the street, and telling them to go elsewhere. Having blocked all the public transit roads, she turns to look in, waiting to see what is going on next.
Traci 13     Certain that it would be pretty unwise to dive headfirst into the crowd of mercenaries -- especially because she left her invulnerability in the place where things she never had are kept -- Traci decides to follow the magick signature of the person who affected these people. She sniffs it out and squints in just such a way as to see that sparkling fine strand of Fate and the magick user's aura. <<Hmm, that's fishy. What would this person be doing mixing up this kinda trouble?>> she asks Leroy, but mostly herself.

She picks up her pace when she realizes that the person won't be using their car. She's not trying to /catch/ the man. She's just looking for more information. To that end, she weaves a well-used spell as she walks quickly to close the gap between herself and her target -- just a little something to give her more information about his general self. Are his intentions bad? What's his mood? She's never sure what kind of impressions she'll get with this surface scan spell, but it almost always gives her something useful.
Tom The Spell that Tracy uses is "WTF? Y U HATE ME?" since it immediately detects not one but three overlapping perfectly interlocking curses. It's the kind of work a god might do; no strike that, a bunch of gods that really wanted this to stick. Beneath it all she can tell there is a luck mage....indeed her occult lore is good enough to recognize the signature, the Night family, known for centuries in being Luck mages, mostly on the side of the angels but full of black sheep like any family, but then seven generations back the curse started, there were rumors of course that it got worse each generation; changing their 'nom de guerr' to mages specializing in bad mojo. Word has it that the latest heir is particularly talented at it and works to simply 'be' somewhere or even not be somewhere for an elaboruate series of favors. He's hard to track and very much off the radar. His mood is very hard to read but the spell seems to mainly pick up on the fact that he is engaged in an elaborate self deception. More than that is hard to say.

The three thugs (well...two since one is unconcious) can't believe their luck but they do in fact back off...slowly. They suspect this is some kind of trap but they're incompotent enough that if the mighty Green Arrow REALLY wanted to take them out it wouldn't be that much of a challenge (they think anyway) so they are, in fact, leaving but they take their unconcious comrade with them.

Remy locks that score down tight just in time to be caught in the cross fire. Two of the heavies going for the score recognize the threat when they see it and open fire on him.

The School bus gets the message and gets the hell out of the way. School bus drivers are well trained to know how to get thier charges away from this kind of event but the kids in the bus all go to the windows and press their faces in interest until it turns a corner and goes away.
Remy LeBeau The stream of bullets flies in Gambit's direction and he moves out of the way, doing a backflip and landing to one side. "Yah shot at me! Good foh yah. Shows inititive an' Ah'm sure yah employers like dat sort of t'ing..." Then he throws a pair of explosive cards, two each, at the thugs. The charge about that of getting hit by a charging bull.... or bear...depending on the market. "Next time, yah might wanna try aiming first.." he adds
Black Canary With the perimeter secure, Canary enters the battlefield. Stopping the violence seems to be her top priority - so she finds a central spot - takes a deep breath... and emits a loud echoing sonic cry - her hope is to make everyone drop and cover their ears to stop anyone else from behing hurt.
Oliver Queen When the two go to leave, the staff is transitioned back to a bow, and two blunt arrows are fired off in rapid succession at both their heads by Green Arrow. Retreating was a bit of information about their intentions and motivation, and he wants them for interrogation later. He'll come back for them.

Right now, he needs to be sure the vial itself is still where it should be... so off he goes into the facility. He brought along a master keycard for the facility proper for just this occasion, so he's making a beeline for the safe room. Probably going right for Remy.
Traci 13     Traci's brows furrow as she shares her thoughts with Leroy, letting him sense what she's sensing, see what she sees, and borrowing his special way of looking at things for a moment, comparing and contrasting the feedback she's getting. She knows of this man's family, maybe even who he is, but she's never met him, to her remembrance. She does manage to catch up to him, slowing her walk to a more normal pace, and using a spell to make her footsteps unnoticeable to all but very, very sharp-eared people. If she wanted to spend more energy, she could ensure she's entirely invisible to all but the most gifted of seers, but she's planning on speaking to this man, so it'd be really wasteful to do that. She just doesn't want to let him know she's there until she's ready, for safety's sake. She waits until he's gone into the occult shop to pick her place of confrontation.

She picks a light pole nearby and leans back against it, planting the sole of one shoe on the ground and the other against the light pole as she stuffs her hands into her coats' pockets, waiting patiently. She inwardly crafts a protection spell for herself, since she's not sure what kind of reaction he'll have. She wraps a thin white string around her index finger and closes her hand in a fist. If she opens her hand, the spell will activate and surround her in protective shielding and energies of a variety of magickal types. Better to be on one's guard, especially when trailing an individual who *might* be responsible for mercenaries and explosions.

As the man exits the occult shop, Traci waits for the door to close before she calls out to him, "What're you up to, Mr. Night?" Traci's young, looks even younger than she is, and wears an expression of suspicion that tightens her Asian features slightly.
Tom So, first off, the four mercs outside are shooting rubber bullets in spray and pray fashion because accuracy is terribly and they are rather frustrated and still dodging their attacks until the bigger guns show up. A sonic cry easily works around in a curved fashion and knocks all four uncocnious though one of the heavier ones lasts for an extra second to turn around and frown with a kind of 'not fair' expression.

The two thugs retreating from Green Arrow actually begin to smile at their dumb luck right..at the point it runs out and they fall unconcious to the ground.

Remy in motion is a hard target at the best of times but the explosion from the cards sends them scattering and covering their eyes making the stream of bullets stop. One of the heavies covering for the blue team just flat out runs. The other stops firing at the red heavy and starts shooting at Remy in short three round bursts and despite his agility one of the bullets grazes him but mainly just hurts.

Green Arrow is able to determine that there are at least three mercs in play inside of the warehouse and one very mobile Remy Lebough. Also, he has a bag that is of roughly the same mass as the contents of that safe he had researched so much.

Tom, not aware he is being followed, carefully buys exactly the supplies he needs and then walks out. He blinks a bit in surprise at Traci being there and rubs his eyes to make sure he isn't hallucinating (happens more than you might think) and then says, "Well, I'm making a transport spell to go to Norway, find Miracle Elle, discover who is responsible for the sleeping sickness and be their friend. Really, the world is rather stressed and I think it can use a good nap. Maybe...I mean MAYBE he is being a tad bit excessive with the whole FORCED napping thing but I'm sure if I explain things politely he will do it in more of a rotational thing.
Remy LeBeau When he is hit, Gambit's eyes glow a brighter, more hell fire red. "Fair 'nough mon ami.." He says and shows his respect for the goon who kept his head under pressure, by launching a full spread of six cards in his general direction. Honestly this whole situation though is starting to reach a boiling point, and Gambit is trying to improvise an egress when Arrow enters. He sighs at that point, and looks briefly skyward and says, "Ah'm beginin' ta t'ink yah find dis whole situation funny."
Oliver Queen Remy had to open his big mouth, because suddenly there's Green Arrow coming around the corner, one of his trick arrows nocked on his compound bow. The domino masked and green hooded vigilante is here, and is already aiming for Remy... or rather, the bag he's wearing.

A grappling hook arrow is launched at it, the talons of it popping out to dig into the bag proper so the anchor in his mechanical quiver can retrieve it via reinforced winch.

As soon as the arrow is fired, Green Arrow goes for cover to keep from being shot at. "Really hope those things can't break the line..." Green Arrow grumps to himself.
Black Canary Black Canary taps her headset. "Arrow, the outside is secure. I established a perimeter and... sang everyone to sleep." She giggles softly. "Alright, I'll keep an eye on things from out here. Call me if you need me." She is now patrolling outside the warehouse, making sure no reinforcements show up.
Traci 13     Traci's dark eyes watch Tom carefully as he scrubs at his eyes, looking more closely at her. She keeps her fist closed in her pocket as he responds, her eyes seeing more than meets them on a physical level. Her brows furrow even more as he explains himself. What he says doesn't quite match up with the other things she's sensing. It's kinda...kinda like when she was studying how to read mystickal signs and portents about people...and she practiced on a kid who'd decided it was 'Opposite Day,' and answered everything contrarily to what they actually meant. -- KINDA. Way more complex than that, of course. But, the bad luck vibes roiling off of the guy is making her skin kinda crawl. "Uhhhh huh," she sounds dubious. "What about what you did back there, with those people?" she hooks a thumb in the general direction of the mercenary ball. "Smacked of you, back that way," she says, shoving her hand back in her pocket.
Tom Tom looks at the warehouse, "Look, I might be a locus of occasionally negative luck but I didn't actually DO anything..."

At that precise moment the amazing shot hits the bag despite the amazing dexterity of the thief. And until that moment the forethought of the foam Gambit would have protected it from impact, but the shot causes the bag to sail towards a large vat that says "WARNING: Highly toxic acid"

It's funny that Black Canary would mention the reinforcements....they existed but no one let them know to send them...until the guy that ran from Remy radios, "Heavy hitters! Heavy hitters! We need the extraction teams now dammit now!"

Tom looks at Traci, "I mean, normally I try to clean things up when it gets a BIT messier like it did now..."

The six cards that Remy through at the other tough all impact as the guy is sent flying through the concrete wall, not dead but very very unconcious. The explosion hits a power transformer above the cieling which sends sparks...

One of Remy's cards hits the line on the bag which is now moving blissfully toward the acid...

Tom shrugs, "I have to get to Norway. LIVES are on the line." He pauses a moment, "I mean, you know....lives we have to improve by helping them nap....
Remy LeBeau "Yah really do t'ink dis is funny, don'cha?" Gambit asks the almighty again as the bag is yanked free and sent sliding towards the acid. A Flick of his wrist and a six foot long bo staff made of silvery metal "pops" into being. He uses one end to try and snag the escaping bag, then sweeps the other end in the direction of the guy shooting arrows at him. "Don' suppose yah'd believe me if Ah said Ah was one of de good guys, non?"
Oliver Queen "It'd be more believable if you weren't thieving." Green Arrows masked voice remarks from behind a crate. Sneakily, he heads towards the opposite end, finding another angle to shoot from...

The entire motion takes only a moment, but it's more than enough to flick a few cards his way. Green Arrow stands, nocks an arrow of some kind, and launches it... right at Remy's feet.

It explodes, and smoke fills the entire room centering on Remy. Green Arrows smoke arrow obscures the area.

Dropping back down, Green Arrow takes a moment to switch out the filter on his goggles from night vision to IR, to be able to see in the smoke.
Remy LeBeau "Ah mean, dat is a reasonable point, Ah c'n definitely see 'ow yah'd get de wrong idea." Gambit offers almost conversationally as he backflips away from where the arrow is headed towards his feet. He finds himself in the smoke cloud as well and can't help but allow a smile to touch his lips... And when Arrow switches to IR the first thing he's see is a trio of glowing cards heading for him out of the fog.
Traci 13     Traci's dark eyes narrow all the more as Tom explains things in his own way. "You say it's not in your control, but it sure seemed like more than the stuff you're giving off, right now," she points out, gesturing to the waves of sickly translucent wisps of bad luck shearing off of Tom like tattered ghost rags. "You sure you didn't have anything to do with that back there, at the warehouse?" she asks, again, really trying to get a read on his level of honesty. It's kinda like trying to find the genuine article in a funhouse mirror room.

"Who did this to you, anyway? Did you piss off the wrong person or what?" she pries, not really expecting an answer. "It's really kinda unpleasant to be around you," she notes, but sotto voce, as she lowers her other foot from the pole and stamps her feet for warmth. "Listen... I dunno if you're being sarcastic or what, but I don't have time to stand around to figuring you out, right this minute. Lotsa folks in the field are working on this issue, me included. I dunno what you're up to, but you've gotten my attention. Keep your nose clean, mister." Then, she pushes off of the light pole, walking in the opposite direction from Tom. Before her, at her feet, a glowing glyph spiral forms and, as she steps onto it, she vanishes, along with the glyph spiral.
Tom Corgi nods to Traci and says, "I assure you, I'm on the side of our good friend the whatever is that is, likely as a result of a misunderstanding, causing people to sleep, but also when not opposing that entity...." he blinks as she says that she will have an eye on him and contemplates trying to clean things up and sighs. "With any luck whatever bad luck is going on at the warehouse over there will not stop."

It's like the air is suddenly cleaner as the helicopters take one look at Black Canary and begin to move off. They don't need that. The helicopters are slow enough that she is able to persue one of them though.

As skill becomes more of a factor again, Remy is indeed able to stop the bag before it hits the acid and the foam is tough enough that it will take a LOT of force to crush the prize within.

The sleeping individuals do NOT wake up.
