Jason Todd Jason had invited Kitty into the city to spend the day with him. After she showed him the small town delights of Salem Center, he decided to show her the larger and more glamorous parts of Gotham. First, there was the Gotham Art Museum. While it was no Met or Smithsonian, the gallery was having a display on the 'Art of Crime', featuring paintings and artwork by infamous criminals. It was.. an interesting show, to say the least, and Jason pretty much came to a consensus of, "It sucks, but at least they were behind bars." He couldn't really find redemption in some of their artworks.

After that was dinner at the Iceberg Lounge. While it was a haven for Cobblepot and his ilk, Jason knows that it keeps up appearances for the family to show up on occassion, just to keep an eye on it all and mix and mingle. Just to know what's going down.

After dinner at the Lounge, Jason led Kitty from the Lounge as they walked hand in hand in the park. The sun is in a near full bow for the evening, a cascade of oranges and reds and dark shadows along the trees, starting to wake up and blossom again along the paths, lit by the dim light of lamps made to look like they ran off of oil and flickered instead of being harsher.

As they wind slowly through Trillium Park, Jason glances aside to her and offers a smile to her. "Have you enjoyed your evening so far?"
Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde shared Jason's consensus on the artwork. "But it was an interesting time," Kitty said, slipping her hand into Jason's and lacing fingers as they walk out of the place. "Feels like Spring is finally trying to claw its way here, doesn't it?" she comments. Kitty leans her head against the taller man's shoulder as she gazes over at the splendor of the sunset. "Too bad none of them took a moment to try to paint something like that," she says, drawing a deep breath and smiling as she looks up to Jason.

The day with him has been wonderful. It's one of those days she will try to store away in her head. To be able to pull it out and remember all of the details on someday that is a little darker. To remember the smell of his cologne. Way Jason's hand feels, holding hers. The flash in his eyes those times that Kitty is occupied somewhere else, only to turn back and find he's been watching her the whole time. The way it makes her smile, and feel warm inside, and press herself up against him for a hug.

Their footsteps make the softest of noises on the paved path as they move through the park. "I've had a wonderful evening. I've had a lot of wonderful evenings since we met," she tells him, Kitty glancing up at him, her smile sparkling as it touches her eyes with warmth.
Jason Todd "Yes. But such a view should only be done from behind iron bars from them. Though sometimes the flight of fancy of the incarcerated can do more than all the time of freedom unearned." Jason responds.

I should know. That six months I spent in Arkham as it's.. guest.

His hand presses against hers thoughtfully and he gives a smile towards Kitty. "I'm glad you have enjoyed it." he offers to her. "I know that Gotham isn't exactly your type of town. And I'm not exactly sure if I can ever get used to small town Salem Center.." there's a small chuckle at that.

"And we have had a lot of great evenings. And better nights." he offers in a coaxing tease of the young woman with a wink. And the shadows hide the danger, in Gotham. Tonight, it comes in the form of a pair of street thugs. They had followed the couple from the Lounge - they saw a young and presumably rich pair - heading into the darkness of the park. Where they were could be alone and canoodle.

And where robbers can strike from the shadow. As they pass a small grove of trees, the pair come out; one in front, one behind, brandishing knives. "The purse and the wallet. No heroics, or we cut the girl."
Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde lets out a warm laugh at the correction. "A few," she says, as if conceding the point only grudgingly. Though the shy, charmed smile she gives Jason tells more the truth of her thoughts on that subject. Kitty brings his hand up to brush against her cheek, smiling up at him as they move past the grove of trees.

The approach of the two street thugs isn't noticed at first by Kitty. It's their words that get her attention first. Jason's hand is freed. It felt odd. Less that she let go of his fingers and more that her hand just wasn't there anymore. Kitty turns to look at the men, moving a step away from Jason, both of them having more room after she has.

Kitty hesitates for a moment, about to say something but instead glancing to Jason with a concerned expression. She doesn't seem scared at all really. Just uncertain.
Jason Todd There's a change that comes over Jason. It's nothing physical. He doesn't like- transform into a monster, or anything like that. But as the pair threaten himself and worse, Kitty, there's a small look in his eyes. A few moments ago, they were full of warmth and expressive for the young woman at his side.

That light is gone. They're now dark. Anger, wrath, and if Kitty was paying close attention, a smile that tugs just at the corner of his mouth. "Wallet? Alright, y-you can have it." he says, reaching for it. As he releases Kitty's hand, there's a half-step to the side, and he slips his hand down, before suddenly kicking behind him, knocking the breath out of the robber behind him as he lunges at the robber to the front. His hand grabs the man's wrist - a sickening snap as he breaks it with a simple twist.

The robber screams and drops the knife, just as Jason drives his shoulder into the other man's, his hands slamming into his midsection to bring him down, doubling the man over in the process.
Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde moves over, kicking the knife away from the first man as Jason is already dealing with the second. She turns back to make sure Jason is ok, seeing he's already driven the man to his knees. Kitty pulls out her phone and calls 911, while keeping an eye on the man holding his wrist and sobbing.

"You're ok, didn't get cut," she says. It's statement, not question. An expression of worry, just satisfying herself that Jason is indeed fine.

"Hello, what is the nature of the emergency?" comes from Kitty's phone, loudly.

"Yes, there's two muggers in.. Trillium Park, armed with knives, that have been apprehended. Can you please send someone," Kitty says into the phone. She's keeping an eye on the one with the hurt wrist, ready to react if he tries anything.
Jason Todd While Kitty is on the phone? Jason hasn't stopped. The man on the ground is kicked, sending him sprawling as the one from behind is twisted towards. Grabbing him by the front of his shirt, he hauls him up and smashes his fist into the man's face, breaking his nose in the first hit.

Then he continues. The man is obviously bloodied and beaten, but there's not stopping Jason. Despite the whimpers of pain and surrender that come from him, the former Robin continues to beat down the would-be mugger as blood splatters on his nice date night clothes and splashes on his leather shoes. When he releases the first man and lets him drop into a simpering pile on the ground, Jason starts to turn his attention to the other man.
Kitty Pryde The beating does not last long. The first hit lands. And then the second, blood splattering. As Jason cocks back to hit the man again and lets his first fly, suddenly he loses grip on the man's shirt, and his punch flies right through his head as if the other man were a ghost.

Or maybe as if Jason were. He feels one bit of contact though. Kitty's hand on his shoulder. She will move in front of him, if able, not breaking that contact with him, until she's between Jason and the mugger who is coughing out blood through his broken nose. Kitty shakes her head, looking up into Jason's eyes.

She phases them back into reality. "Jason, he's down. You can stop," she tells him. "I'm safe. We're both safe. Jason?"

"Hello? Are you still there?" squawks the voice in Kitty's phone. "We have a patrol unit on the way."
Jason Todd That fist phases right through the man, causing Jason to /whiff/ as he steps, off-balance for a moment. "The fuck." he starts to say, until Kitty steps in front of him. She had told him she was a mutant. And that she could do exactly what she had done to him just now.

That she is that powerful of a moment is what catches him off-guard. His fist is clutched to his side, blood dripping from it as he heaves several breathes. His eyes are haunted. Dark.

This was the side of him that he had tried so very hard to hide from Kitty. And now it was here. On the very surface.

When she releases him, his eyes look over her for several moments. There's no words. No comments. No quips. He realizes what just happened. Just as she does. Stepping back from her, he holds up his hands, not sure what to say, and he turns - and runs.

Straight towards the ruins of the Sacred Martyr.

You didn't tell her. Now she knows. Way to go. She knows that you're the monster everyone else knows you are now. No matter how much shine you put on a piece of tin - it's still tin. And now? What now? Do you just run? Keep running? It's what you did best.
Kitty Pryde As Jason first takes the step back, Kitty powers down the phone and slides into her pocket. She takes a step towards him, lips parting to say something gentle. And she sees the look in his eyes. And then he's running from her.

"Jason!" her voice calls.

"Jason!?" again, her voice further away as he runs.
Jason Todd Further away. Further away the voice is. Like another voice that echoes in his memories now.

'Robin! ROBIN!'

Batman's voice is loud and commanding.

Jason's ignoring it. His hands slam into Harvey Dent's face time and time again. The damaged and undamaged side. Neither matter. Jason doesn't care. The man killed his father. His father was a thug.

Just like those men tonight. But they deserved no mercy. Neither did Dent. Or the Joker. None of them deserved any mercy. None of them deserved what Batman gave them. Chance after chance after chance.

The broken and shattered door of the church is opened and comes off of it's hinges as Jason heads within the de-descecrated ground.
Kitty Pryde The wood from the door clatters as it hits the ground. Sending an echo rolling through the interior, stirring the silence like a peal of thunder from a stormy sky. A plume of dust blows out from it, spreading like a mist across the interior, preceding the man's steps deeper inside.

Within he is alone for the moment. Alone with his demons and his memories. Separated from the woman who saw for the first time tonight who he is. Who he truly is. And her voice stopped calling. No sound of her chasing. She's a smart girl. Probably knows a losing hand when she sees it.

The footsteps were utterly silent. Her breath saved for running. His form pulled ever farther away. Longer strides opening up a lead by the time the church door gives way to his entry.

Within the church, all is silent. And then she steps forward out of one of the walls. Moving towards him. Her steps making sound again.

She isn't leaving him.

"Jason..."
Jason Todd She's only seen the surface. The first scrape of the shine on top that reveals the ugly beneath. Jason was standing at the altar when she entered. Her voice touches against his ears. "You should go, Kitty. I'm messed up. I should have told you sooner. I'm broken." he says quietly, his attention returning to her as he turns to the woman.

But he doesn't approach her. Instead, he goes deeper within the church. Further down. She should realize how close that 1 Police Plaza is to the church itself.

As he does so, he leaves the path for her to follow. For her to make the choice.
Kitty Pryde Again, there's no sound of her following. Perhaps she has finally realized it. Heard it in Jason's voice. Or maybe from seeing the crimson that still covers his knuckles. Maybe she's replaying the sight of his fist smashing into the mugger's face. Hearing the thud of flesh being struck.

Why would she choose to follow?

How could she not?

Kitty steps out into the old subway station. Pausing in surprise. Eyes going about it for just the first second or two, before she looks to find him.

Where is Jason?
Jason Todd The subway station had been long abandoned. A failed effort in the 20th century to 'modernize' Gotham and provide transportation. This was supposed to be the hub of that glorious feat.

But like most things in Gotham, it died. Dried up. And became something different. And like all things that are reborn in Gotham, it's nothing like it was supposed to have been.

"You asked me if I still do it." Jason says quietly. Did he know she followed him? Maybe. Maybe he's just talking to himself. He doesn't know. Is that what it's like to be a ghost?

"I should have never dragged you into this. I should have just left it to that first date and walked away." he says, frowning, and glancing at the modern-day computer and set-up for a crime fighting group. It's not the Batcave or the X-Base - but it's sturdy.

And a wall to the side stands, holding various weapons and gear - including that black body armor with the familiar Bat mark on the front of it - and perhaps the more familiar Hood.
Kitty Pryde Her steps make sound this time. Quiet, but sounds. Drawing nearer to him as Jason stands looking at the computer. The surroundings get a glance. Glances. But if she looks at the computer, and each of the armors, it is only in the midst of looking at -him-.

"But then I wouldn't have fallen in love with you," Kitty tells him as she steps up behind him. One of her hands touches the back of his neck. Softly. Fingers sliding up and into his hair. The feeling of her face pressing to his upper back along his shoulder.

Not recoiling from him. The feeling of her is there, against him. The scent of her. She's wearing that perfume she wore on their first date, when they watched movies on his roof. And her other hand slides around his body, arm folding about him, hand resting upon his chest.

"Don't run from me. Please?" she asks him softly.
Jason Todd Kitty's touch brings Jason pause. And confusion. She should be running away. 'Ghosting' him wouldn't even be out of the question. She's a good woman. And he's neither of those. Instead, she's drawn to him.

Push her away. She's being a romantic. She doesn't realize the truth.

"You should be the one running." he responds finally. He lifts his hands. He almost brings his to cover hers, but he pauses at the sight of the blood still on his knuckles. He won't sully her with his misdeeds.

"Kitty." he says quietly. "I told you that it was a children's game. The game of Robins. The problem with games? Is that eventually someone has to lose. And I was the biggest loser of them all." he finally responds.

"I went down. And went down hard. There's more you need to know. But this.. this is me. What you've seen, what you've been with? That's not something real. That's not what I am." he turns to face her. It's not a lie.

Not all of it. His eyes betray him - those feelings for her? They're real enough. He can't hide that. "Bruce doesn't know. He never knew. He can't know." he says finally. "It's for his own good."
Kitty Pryde The slender brunette looks up slowly. Until those sweet, beautiful eyes are gazing deep into his. Under that gaze, will he notice when her hands take his? Heedless of blood. Squeezing her fingers around his. "Then we won't tell him," Kitty tells Jason, her eyes never leaving his.

"I've seen what you worried to let me see," Kitty tells him as their gaze holds one another. "I've not left. And I'm not leaving."

Thank whoever left the chair at the computer in just the right place. Kitty will given Jason a push backwards to try to push him down into the chair. And if he resists, it will no longer just be a push, but a suddenly hooked leg to take him off balance. Where'd she learn that?

If she doesn't manage to seat him, Kitty straddles his lap. The whole time never taking her eyes from him. "There's more I need to know? Tell me, Jason. Trust me to love you. Please," she tells him, emotion filling her face.
Jason Todd Pushed into the chair with a soft oof, Jason lands in it. Pinned down by his girlfriend, he looks up into her eyes. And the willful young man shakes his head. "I can't." he finally says. "I know you want to know. And you will deserve to know. In time. But right now? This isn't the time." he admits finally.

"We have a lot to figure out. And we're not going to figure it all out tonight." His hand reaches up and cups Kitty's cheek in thought, his thumb brushing over her supple and smooth skin. "I didn't even want you to know about this." he finally admits, letting out a shaky breath.
Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde leans her head into Jason's hand. Nuzzling herself against his fingers. She's see what he did. Yet she not only isn't running, she's seeking out his touch. Desiring it. Desiring him. "No, we're not going to figure it all out tonight," she tells him.

Kitty glances about the crime-fighting lair. "Because you were afraid I'd say it needs a woman's touch?" she asks, looking back to him and raising an eyebrow as if -daring- him to admit it. The corners of her lips quirk as if trying to hold back a small smile.

"Now that I've seen it? And I haven't run away, or turned away? Are you upset that I saw it?" Kitty asks Jason, her eyes back on him. She reaches up and cups her hand over his, not letting him pull it away from her cheek without effort.
Jason Todd "Heh." comes Jason's response to her mentioning it needs a woman's touch. "A guy has to have his man cave. But when you meet Arsenal, you'll realize it's more his man cave than mine, sometimes." There's a roll of his eyes at that.

But when her hand catches his, and pressed to her, Jason finds himself having to make a decision. One that is going to decide their path from this point forward. His eyes search hers, as if trying to seek the answer there.

"No. But I did not want to embroil you in. You. That life. It was supposed to remain seperate from this.." his free hand raises to gesture around him. "If I start blurring the line, you could get hurt."

And I'd be no better than Bruce in involving those I care about the most in this mess.
Kitty Pryde Kitty's tongue touches her lips as she looks down at Jason as she straddles his lap. "I'm part of your life now. And you are of mine. Not just the good parts," she tells him. Kitty takes Jason's other hand, and guides it up to her throat. Until his fingers touch her choker. She doesn't say the word. She doesn't have to.

"I know you want to protect me. I'm also not like other girls," Kitty tells him quietly. "I love you. And I haven't seen anything that makes me think that will change." She leans her forehead against his. "So is this Arsenal fellow expected any moment? Because if not... this is a date, and I'm feeling sorely under-kissed on it," she tells him.
Jason Todd Jason feels that touch against her throat and that reminder. And then the words that she says quietly, reaffirming herself to him. And then he smirks as she leans down against him, and he looks up into her eyes. And finds only trust and love there. And something else.

But her request for a kiss is denied with a chuckle and a shake of his head. "No making out in the workplace." he says to her with a chuff of laughter. "For that, we're going to have to go back home. After I clean up." Because he's not going to be romantic splattered with the dry blood of a random street thug.
Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde's face breaks out in a smile as she succeeds in bringing that chuck back out of him. She leans in to steal one quick peck from his lips. "They'll have to just dock your pay on that one," Kitty tells him with a teasing grin.

The amusement in her smile gives way to warmth as she looks back at Jason. "Come on, let's get out of here then. We could use a shower." She glances over at the computer. "Though we need to come back later, so I can see what I can do for giving you an upgrade," she tells him. She looks back over to him, and something in her demeanor seems to make it more than a joke or even a boast. Kitty seems to be serious there.
Jason Todd "We'll see." If Jason has his way, she'll never see this place again. It'll keep her safe.

But kismet has a bad habit of proving him wrong.
