Lex Luthor The invitation had gone out to numerous parties, but so far, Vintridr was the first to reply.

The destination was a Special Projects division lab/factory in Metropolis, with Vintridr's choice of transportation to get there. His request? A no holds barred fight with a powerful Asgardian for a weapons test. The only condition was no killing. Beyond that? He wanted to see what the units were capable of.

The complex where Project Peacekeeper was being developed had high security. Force Fields, state of the art powered armor Team Luthor guards here and there, and some sort of alloy material armor lining the chamber are just some of the standard defenses Vintridr would see once she was in the main testing chamber through the checkpoint.

Off to the right of the black and grey testing grounds is a control room through a see-through glass pane with a shimmering effect over it and the reinforced alloy doorway next to it. Numerous technicians were going about their business inside both seated and moving around, with Lex himself going over tablets and other readings in there as well.

The testing chamber itself was empty, save for target practice dummies with scorch marks, an obstacle course, and a series of rings above.
Vintridr     Vintridr had been perilously close to dropping the invitation into the trash, but the included offer - hydroponics technology beyond what was available commercially on Midgard - was too tempting to refuse. Plus, if this Luthor was working on weapons, this might be a good opportunity to assess the potential threat...

When she shows up at the appointed place, it's almost anticlimactic -- wearing simple black jeans underneath a T-shirt that could be found in any clothing store in the States, the Asgardian looks like she'd blend in without so much as a raised eyebrow in any western country, save for her height... And the casual way she looks over the armored guards and dismisses them as not a threat.

She passes through the checkpoint without further comment - and none of the various scanners present register anything out of the ordinary. Either she's come entirely unarmed, or there's something LexCorp doesn't have the right technology to scan for.

She walks to the center of the testing chamber, then turns to look at the window with a I'm-here-you-may-as-well-get-on-with-this expression.
Lex Luthor Once Vintridr gets into the testing chamber, Lex moves away from where he was typing into a computer and heads to the computer station right in front of the glass. Hitting a button, there's a small sound as the intercom is turned on. "Good morning, Vintridr. Your price is acceptable. Welcome to the Peacekeeper Program testing chamber. For the purposes of this test, we're going to bring in one of the units, establish a baseline for both of you to know what you're dealing with, then let you have at it and pummel each other until one of you yields or is knocked out."

Lex raises a brow behind the glass, "Ready?"
Vintridr     Vintridr barely twitches an eyebrow at Lex' lecture aside from a slightly cynical twitch at the corner of her mouth when he names his project 'Peacekeeper'. She nods and reaches to her hip, as if drawing a sword that isn't there...

... And several of Lex' more experimental field detectors start rattling and spitting out readouts. "... Getting a reaction," the tech monitoring them exclaims perhaps needlessly. "Matching to expected baselines... Confidence high, worhmhole opening!"

... And in a shower of rainbow sparks, suddenly the sword Vintridr was drawing /is/ there, her clothes replaced by something sleek and silvery blue that all but screams 'body armor' while a round shield forms on her left arm.

    "Ready."
Lex Luthor When the wormhole is opened and the gear are equipped, Lex watches passively. "I can see that." He states, drollly. His technicians are being helpful-non-helpful... but he doesn't berate the man, at least. Then, he nods to one of the technicians off to the side.

A gate that Vintridr didn't know was there opens on the opposite side of the chamber, and the clanking of a heavily armored torso can be heard before it's seen as a ten foot humanoid in a full body suit of black and grey steps out into the chamber, it's red eyes locking into Vintridr... and turning brighter as the sensors get a lock on her. It stops just inside the chamber, and the gate closes from the top and locks again. It carries a large rifle of unknown design in an idle position, and the legs... have a very odd shape. Reverse jointed maybe?

"This is Unit-01, a Hunter class Peacekeeper. He'll be your opponent for this test." Lex explains as he watches the two. "Do you have ranged weapons of any kind?" Lex asks as he looks to Vintridr... then to the readings coming from Unit-01s sensors.
Vintridr     "That... Wasn't exactly a wormhole, looks like. Or rather, that wasn't a conduit like we saw above New York where things passed through. Just... some kind of superimposition of two events in spacetime. The sword and armour didn't move between from 'there' to 'here', she just made 'there' and 'here' the same for a moment and when reality snapped back the gear stayed 'here'... That's..." The tech rambles on for a bit longer about energy expenditures and curvatures, but can be safely tuned out while attention is paid to the main event.

Vintridr looks the bot over with a certain calm professional curiosity. She tilts her head at Lex' comment, then makes a bucking motion with both arms --

... And another yelp from behind Lex as the detectors register another flare...

... And instead of her sword and shield she'd holding a bow... And Unit-01's sensors note a measurable decrease in temperature in the vicinity of where the bowstring should be.
Lex Luthor Every word is being recorded, so Lex will go over the implications of the technology being used later. For now, the sensors have his attention. The readings will be useful for other research later.

Then, Lex presses the intercom button again, "Unit-01, frontal shield. Full deflection." Lex orders of Unit-01. The Peacekeeper snaps up his left arm directly across his chest, and some sort of shimmering snaps into existence in front of it.

"Fire when ready Vintridr."
Vintridr     Vintridr nods and lifts her bow, motioning as if to nock and draw an arrow -- and that drop in temperature becomes even more pronounced as what looks like an arrow made out of pure ice seems to crystallize out of the air while she draws back the slightly glowing 'string'. She takes aim with the smoothness of long practice, and lets fly.
Lex Luthor The arrow flies true... and upon getting with three feet of Unit-01, it suddenly shatters, sending shards of ice to the side, behind, and to the ground. As the sensors from Unit-01 return their results, along with the energy use to shatter the arrow... Lex gives a simple frown.

Meanwhile, there's an audible yelp from his technicians at the much larger than expected spike in energy use.

"Extradimensional material, if I were to take a guess." Lex muses over the intercom, before he looks back to Vintridr, "Please, bring up your shield. We'll be testing the cannon and built-in non-lethals in Unit-01 now."
Vintridr     Vintridr nods and dismisses her bow and recalls her shield with another rainbow flicker, then brings it up in a braced guard position. "Go ahead," she comments.
Lex Luthor "One bolt from the cannon, then a steady stream from the riot gun at setting 2 on the Asgardian, Unit-01." Lex orders from the control booth.

Without a word, the left arm is brought up and snapped into position with the cannon aimed like a rifle in two seconds; far quicker than his size and the armor would say should be possible, and a bright beam of red light pulses at Vintridr. A supercharged and superheated plasma bolt grinds into her shield.

Then, the cannon is dropped to the ground, and the right arm starts transforming, the forearm and arm reconstructing as Unit-01 aims at her... and a wave of heavy sonic distortion hits Vintridr from the barrel of the arm mounted blaster. It's just enough to completely disable a normal human via sensory overload, and the sonic blaster continues to fire, keeping a consistant wavelength.
Vintridr     At the very least, one might have expected the convection from the plasma heat to cause Vintridr to flinch, but the only reaction to the impact is a slight grunt and shudder of her shield arm as she takes the kinetic force. Whatever that shield is made of, it's clearly not Vibranium - although once the flare clears, it doesn't seem to have taken any damage from the plasma bolt either.

The sonic wave does seem to have an effect; the Asgardian's face twists into a grimace and her shoulders tense even as she brings the shield up to interpose it. But she doesn't flinch, and she doesn't falter.
Lex Luthor "Sonic blaster to setting 3, Unit-01." Lex orders.

The sonic attack doubles on itself, becoming enough to slowly shred a humans skin from it's bones by the sheer power of it.
Vintridr     The shield seems to be doing /something/ -- from the wailing behind him Lex concludes that his techs are about to give up trying to make sense of how, but despite every science instinct he has insisting that the laws of physics do not and should not work that way it seems to be absorbing at least part of the noise.

On the plus side, Vintridr seems to have instinctively drawn her sword, so she probably feels this is close to the limit of what she can handle indefinitely without retaliating to take out the source of the assault.
Lex Luthor The sword gets his attention, and is what brings Lex to hit the intercom again, "Cease fire, Unit-01."

It does as ordered, the sonic blaster reconfiguring back into a 'normal' human hand and going idle at its' side. "A good baseline for the sonic weapon. Your shield has properties beyond current human understanding, so it's definitely keeping you from having to exert yourself too much. I'm curious what a high powered blaster would do to your shield... but we're not here to test your limits."

Lex then looks off to one side, "We can go to melee testing now." Lex offers, "For this test, you'll have permission to sever limbs if you really need to. They're purely mechanical, and can be replaced."
Vintridr     "You aren't the first to weaponize noise," Vintridr comments, only barely breathing hard. "The war-hounds of Verskallr could pulverise stone with their hunting howls. They were best fought from ambush, and taken out as swiftly as possible."

She nods grimly, flicking her sword through a quick arc. "I take it it also doesn't feel pain?" she asks almost conversationally as she stalks closer to the combat servitor, sword and shield at the ready.
Lex Luthor "This weapon is comparable, and designed for versatility. It can suppress riots, or be used as a high powered cannon." Lex notes as he presses a few buttons in the console panel, "Unit-01 is still very human in the chest and head area, so those are off limits. The four limbs are completely mechanized and can suppress sensation." He looks back to Vintridr through the pane in a side glance, "Don't need pain receptors if you can't go into shock from damage."

Unit-01 stands there, following Vintridr. The red eyes don't move to follow her, but sections do light up as she moves, as if keeping track of her. Lex, keeps his eyes on one of the screens inside the control room.
Vintridr     "You'd be surprised," Vintridr murmurs almost conversationally, filing away the "very human in the chest and head area" away for later concern, then attempts a probing strike at the shoulder.
Lex Luthor Unit-01 doesn't move. He doesn't even flitch. She hits the shoulder... and it deflects off the armor. Those red eyes continue to follow Vintridr as she moves.

Whatever this thing is made of, it seems exceptionally durable for human science.
Vintridr     That causes a raised eyebrow -- evidently Vintridr has a reasonably good idea of what Midgard technology should and shouldn't be capable of.

Then she grins.

Her first strike was exploratory, mostly to get a sense of the drone's defenses, and almost gentle. Her second strike most decidedly is /not/ -- and the console lights up with a series of structural integrity warnings. The armour held -- but it won't hold forever if she keeps hitting it like that... And there's that same discrepancy between the amount of kinetic energy that should have registered with a strike like that, based on the observed mass and speed of the sword, and the hit it actually took.
Lex Luthor The fight lasts a good ten minutes; much longer than either Lex or Vintridr expected, on both their perspectives. Unit-01 is pushed to the limit of the technology implants in order to keep up with Vintridr... and Vintridr is continually surprised by the sheer number of hidden and backup weapons built into Unit-01s chassis.. with one particularly vicious surprise shot from a mine that dispensed from his back earning an amused laugh from whoever Unit-01 is.

By the time the actual fight is over, the entire chamber has been trashed and scorched, with the cyborg chassis heavily damaged and drained from fending off the weird kinetic blows of Vintridr's sword.

Vintridr will have plenty of intelligence on this particular Peacekeeper model to report back to New Asgard. Lex will have plenty of baseline Asgardian data... and plenty of time to devise potential countermeasures to an opponent like Vintridr.

Eventually, the two fighters wind down. Sparks are evident from compromised limbs where Vintridr got decent blows in... and it's clear from the speed Unit-01 had that this would have been a very destructive fight if Unit-01 had fought Vintridr in the open.

"That's enough. Well fought, both of you." Lex states over the intercom, "Would you prefer your payment by transport, or would you prefer to take the plans back with you?"
