Elliot     It's a gray sky sort of day, a little bit brighter than the paved sidewalks endemic to the Salem Center area. There's no rain as yet but everyone can feel it overhead nevertheless. Animals and people alike have chosen to seek shelter. It leaves the world in a strange sort of tranquility. The literal calm before the storm. Still, it's nice enough. The park has the appearance of being abandoned, the dull lighting helping to give the impression that one could scream at the top of their lungs and never be heard.
There are people here and there, of course. It doesn't change how the world feels. They are mostly near the hot dog vendor on the side of the park nearest the hockey rink. You could travel through half of it and hardly even see another body.
Lina Whitecroft Lina arrives at the park via a vehicle that quickly makes an exit. As she wanders through, dressed in a t-shirt and a pair of jeans, she shoves her hands into her pockets and tugs her earbuds out. Slipping them into her ears, she turns her iPod on and listens to a song which she hums along to. Looking up at the sky, she sends a quick text message off to her parents to head out and get her soon. The weather was looking gloomy, after all.
Elliot Despite all expectation the park continues to hold in terms of weather. Walking nearby is a young woman who is about Lina's age. She's several inches shorter and fairly slender, taking long, careful strides as she follows the path through the park. Aimlessly. Elliot is wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans- a popular combination- with her hand s tuffed intto her jean pockets. She hums along with Lina absently as she goes, picking u pon the tune immediately.
Lina Whitecroft Lina doesn't notice that anyone has heard her humming, let alone that they're joining along. So, following natural progression, she begins to softly sing. Her voice carries nearby, her attempts at suppressing her suggestive broadcasting working for a bit. Unknown to her, however, smothering that part of her power only allows yet another aspect to emerge...

"A singer in a smoky room, the smell of wine and cheap perfume..." The words to Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" get slowly louder asthe park has emptied somewhat, so she's less concerned about people overhearing her.
Elliot Elliot listens quietly. She doesn't even realize she's humming along, to be truthful. It's just something that comes easily to her while she walks, the way breathing does to most people. The gir keeps her eyes mostly on her feet as she walks, swaying slightly as she travels with careful steps. Then the singing begins. She pauses for a long moment and takes a deep breath. Blue eyes turn toward Lina and she begins to stare. There are long seconds of silence to folow as the music continues. She's too surprised to actualy make any noise os instead the blonde wanders silently closer. Step by step. She's pretty good at going unnoticed.
Lina Whitecroft Lina never really paid attention to the fact that sometimes when she sang different things happened. Usually, she'd be suggestive. Less often, but just as possibly, she could enhance others somehow. She still didn't know how that worked, but she saw it in singing with her band. They were phenomenal nowadays, never missing a beat, never flubbing a note.

She doesn't notice Elliot, so focused is she on walking along and singing to herself. Her voice slowly sinks into the minds of everyone within earshot. This time, however, after today's incident earlier she is working actively on suppressing that manipulative nature. Without realizing it, she's just opening the door for her other gift...
Elliot It starts to rian gently, a sprinkling that lightly dusts the hair and teases the senses. Elliot looks up at it for a split second but quickly shakes her head. Now she's afew meters from Lina and it's here that Elliot stops, mindful of coming too close to be polite. The girl waits patiently for the song to be over be over.

Okay. Concentrate. Keep the nerves calm and the heart from racing. Elliot's pulse spikes in spite of the simple mantra. "I... How did you do that?"

The girl lifts a hand to her left ear, a universal signal for hearing difficulty but then she cocks her head. "I'm sorry. It was a really pretty song," Elliot notes in a half-whisper. "I never really heard the words before."
Lina Whitecroft Lina overhears someone talking to her just as the rain begins to drizzle over them. Turning to Elliot, she smiles and says "Oh, that? Yeah that was Journey. A lot of people don't know the words, just the melody. It's a super popular oldie." Nodding, she adds "Thank for the compliment. It's starting to rain and you're wearing a white shirt. I'd suggest you find something to stand under. Just some friendly advice," she adds with a wink. She's not singing anymore, she's speaking, but still suppressing any potential suggestions she may be broadcasting.
Elliot "Well, I mean. It's not going to just turn transparent or anything. Just a little... Anyway." Elliot does havea few translucent patches where raindrops have stuck. It isn't raining terribly hard just yet. The girl shakes her head slowly and gestures toward one of the nearby trees, long blonde tresses clinging to her neck and shoulders. "I mean. I've looked up the words. I just can't- usually understand." She frowns, reaching up and touching her ear again. The girl removes what looks like a smlall earpiece and tucks it into her pocket. "I have a... Language Processing Disorder. I don't normally understand what people are saying very well." She blinks a few times, wide blue eyes intense while they study Lina. "Let's go stand under the tree. What did you *do*, though?" The girl fidgets slightly, shifting her weight from left to right.
Lina Whitecroft Lina nods, laughing faintly. "Yes, let's go stand under a tree until it gets a little better." She's already moving in the direction Elliot indicated. "And," she says over her shoulder. "A lady should never get caught in the rain in a white shirt."

Blinking at Elliot, Lina says "Do? I was singing. I'm not familiar with a Language Processing Disorder, what does that mean?" As they reach the tree, she reaches down to turn her iPod off since it's playing to no one now that she's taken her earbuds out. "And you seem to be understanding me just fine."
Elliot "Y-yeah... I know I am," Elliot agrees in a meek voice. She lets Lina lead the way to the tree and ends up coming to a stop standing beside Lina. he is still more or less watching the other girl without actually staring at her too intensely. "Language Processing DIsorder is, um, what it sounds like. I can hear sounds but my brain- doesn't process all of them into words. I don't understand a lot of what is being sid. Normally I record complicated stuff and play it back a couple times to figure it out..." She shakes her head slowly. "This is, um. Different. I don't know what was going on."

Taking a deep breath Elliot turns to look out toward the grey sky. She's trembling slightly while she watches the sky in front of her. "I don't understand. You had to have done something. This sort of thing doesn't just- get better."
Lina Whitecroft Lina listens carefully to what Elliot says. "Not sure," she says quietly with a shrug. "I sing, that's what I do. I haven't really done anything special besides that. Maybe it's magic," she says with a smile. "Or maybe my voice is on the same wavelength as your ears or something, who knows." Lina has a vague idea of what might be going on, but no way is she even going to entertain telling the stranger. "So, I'm Lina. What's your name?"

Lina bends her knee backward so that her foot is planted on the trunk of the tree behind her and she's resting her weight on that leg. Stuffing her hands in her pockets, she adds "I didn't realize the weather was going to be so gloomy. Right mood for another song." She begins to softly sing an older song she knew, "My Immortal" by Evanescence.
Elliot "Magic that just randomly started when you started singing and only affects me and you," Elliot responds a little drily. But then she nods her head slowly, reaching up to draw her fingers through her hair and pull it away from her cheeks and neck. "I guess maybe it is. But if it is I... SHould probably stick close to you for now. Least til the rain stops." Her voice is soft and slightly sheepish but she accepts tis relatively well. Just a hint of quavering involved. It's obvius there's an emotional process behind accepting what is going on that the girl is slowly working through. That might be why her eyes are more toward the weather than Lina. She smiles back, however.

"Elliot," the blonde replies to the quesion. "And it isn't so a bad. Just a little drizzly, really. I mean... Bad day to be at the park, I guess." This time when Lina starts to sing Elliot joins in. She's able to match the other girl's pitch easily so it's hardly an impediment.
Lina Whitecroft Lina smiles as Elliot joins her in singing, giving the girl a thumbs up and continuing the song until it reaches it's natural conclusion. "Lina," she offers in return. "It's nice to meet you. And I don't mind if you hang out under the tree until the rain ends," she adds with a wink.

Lina is by now sure that it's her voice impacting Elliot. It was her 'other' vocal talent. She didn't quite fathom it yet, but when she sang to people it made them smarter, better, faster, stronger... you get the idea.

"The world has magic, you know. You just have to know how to look for it. I'm teasing, of course. I'm not magical or anything. Just an average high school student." As she looks out into the slow rain, she adds "And not a very good one, at that. I keep my grades high enough to be able to stay in my band."
Elliot "I get great grades. I just have to spend all my time studying. And audiobooks. I used to make my dad read stuff to me so I could play it back on tape," Elliot continues honestly. "And you might think you're not magic but you have no idea.

"Imagine you woke up tomorrow andeveryone was speaking Chinese. But you'd get used to that after awhile right? Except the day after they're all speaking in Italian." Elliot shakes her head at this but she's still smiling. There's no angst to it, even if the girl's voice is carefully laden with the appropriate gravity.

"Anyway, fine. We can share a tree. I *guess*. What's the name of your band?" Elliot blinks a couple times at that. "You're... Probably still in highschool, right?" She tilts her head slightly to the left at that. "I graduated a year ago."
Lina Whitecroft Lina nods and says "Well, I would say I envy you but I'm not really big on grades anyways." Shrugging, she adds "And yep, high school. No name for the band yet, we just cover songs we like. Nothing original. Maybe someday, writing lyrics and music is hard. Everything's been done it seems."

Elliot's explanation about people speaking different languages causes Lina to just shake her head. "That sounds awful, the language thing." Crossing her arms, Lina tilts her head. "I'm sorry you have to go through that. I speak plain English, though. Not Chinese or Italian. So I can't really say what's going on." Or, rather, she won't admit it.
Elliot "Sometimes sutff just happens, I guess." Elliot is deep in thoguht about something but she doesn't voice her opinion, whtever it is. Instead the girl offers a positively radiant smile and turns to look around. Slowly. "Rain is only going to get worse in a little bit. I should probably get going! Hopefully we'll run into eachother agian sometime." Then the blonde waves and takes off into the rain. She probably should have worn a different coloured shirt but it isn't so transparent as to be particularly lewd. Just unpleasant.
