Jean Grey Jean has been quite busy, as one might expect of a Headmistress at Xavier's. More so if one is actually aware she is also part of the X-Men. But that doesn't mean reports don't reach her ears, if she wasn't already aware of things in a rather eerie fashion. Every now and then she tends to just handle things out of the blue, without having a direct way of knowing what had transpired. Freaky for those not in the know.

This time, Norkio will hear Jean's voice in her head, calling her to come and see her in the Danger Room. A special session has been reserved, unannounced, and the only descriptor provided prior to accessing the room is one word: control.
Noriko Ashida What was Noriko doing when she got that brain call?

We can be certain she was /not/ setting anything on fire.

That's someone elses gig.

Probably she was laying in her room listening to oldies; My Chemical Romance or The Killers, about to drink a bottle of cough syrup because she read online that it can cause relatively mild hallucinations. Thankfully she hadn't yet commit. Her feet slide off the bed to drop down into her usual combat boots and she grabs her flannel on the way out. The fact that she almosts forgets her gauntlets is testiment to how frightening someone speaking ''get over here'' directly into your brain actually is.

The heavy objects are slid onto her fists and the locking code enabled as she makes her way towards the elevator. Flexing her fists to make sure they're secured, she ties her flannel off around her waist and steps into the Danger Room, glancing heither and fro with a small frown, "Uhh... hey... sup.. I have a cough." Defending the cough medicine. She fakes a cough. "If this is about that... totally sick.." Wide eyed.
Jean Grey Jean is standing in the Danger Room, dressed casually, just a pair of jeans and a tanktop, though her shoes are fire, to be honest. Betsy would have approved.

She looks unamused at Noriko's arrival, already making excuses, and she just looks at her with the kind of gaze that suggests she was looking through her. She's really good at unnerving when she wants.

"You should probably be more serious, and lie less, when you speak to a telepath," Jean remarks while tapping at her temple, as if talking to Noriko in her mind to ask her over wasn't enough of a clue.

"I wanted to ask you for a private conversation about the incident in the kitchen, I heard Sam's report, but I want to hear your take on it...can you tell me what happened?" She asks, before setting her intense emerald gaze on Noriko's eyes directly. "What -really- happened, I'm sure it's understood candor is expected."
Noriko Ashida Noriko cants her head a little, scratching the shaved portion of her scalp just above the tied bandana knot in the back, "Sure yeah, probably, but you'd think something was up. I figured since you knew anyways, I didn't have to be /completely/ honest... Kind of like, it's raining out... nuh uh, it's totally sunny. We both know the score, I"m just being contrary." She tries a grin, a grin does not satisfy the creepy feeling Jean's stare manages to instill.

To be fair, she's not sccaaaaareed...

Just kind of weirded out.

Quentin is one of her Best Pals, afterall.

"Right. Sorry.." Clearing her throat into a gauntleted fist. "That was a real cough, this time." The incident.

"Okay, so it's pretty innocent really. I was very tired and fell asleep at the counter while Ellie was eating a sandwich. She startled me and I accidentally, which I want to stress that I didn't do it intentionally, fried the oven with a spark of electricity..."

Both palms point out at Jean, "In my defense, though, I'd just gotten back from fighting Creepy Chains guy with Kitty and... other people... and was a little shook up.. That guy was /very/ creepy. And... Anyways.. boom.. electricity.. fried oven..." Tiny voice, glancing down, rubbing her neck.

"I felt pretty bad about it, though?"
Jean Grey "Miss Ashida," Jean deliberately keeps to the formality of a last name, "are you aware of my role in this school?" The question is, surprisingly enough, asked without a shred of irony. Though there is little humor in it. She was being serious, and Noriko immediately went for a joke. It seems Jean is not in the mood. Not tonight.

"I see..." Jean notes faintly, before a ghost of a smile surfaces on her lips, "can you tell me what you did wrong in this incident?"
Noriko Ashida "No.. yes.. What? Yes, I mean not exactly... I'm sure you do stuff I don't know about, but I get the whole principle angle." Noriko isn't sure whether she's tap dancing a landmine field or not, she probably is. Wobbling her hands out to either side like someone on a tight rope.

"Sorry. I realized at the time that I was going to get in trouble and I really didn't want to.. I know I'm a bit of a pistol and hard to deal with.. and kind of a piece of shit, but.. I don't want to get kicked out of school either. I like it here, I have friends and even if I give them ass sometimes, I... I'm not getting kicked out am I? I'll pay for the oven, I swear. It /really was/ an accident." So hard to tell! Jean is a gargoyle with that steely eyed stare.

Even usually bristly Noriko is wilting a little beneath it.

"My /gut/ reaction is saying getting caught, but I know that you wont like that answer and I only said it because I /know/ it's the first thing that popped in my head." It was, it is actually the very first thing she thought. She blows out a heavy sigh and looks down at her booted feet, "I lied? Tried to lie anyways. I guess I probably should have talked to somebody about what happened on the mission too, but I didn't realize it bothered me that much... uhh.. I know I'm missing something."
Jean Grey "If you are aware I am the Headmistress, why do you think I'd expect anything short of honesty from my students?" Jean asks, looking curiously at Noriko, as if truly wanting to know her line of thought.

"Stop right there, young lady," Jean frowns, at the expected moment when Noriko refers to herself as excrement. "I will not have anyone speak so lowly of my students, including my students, is that clear?" Jean's tone is scolding, as she adds, in a surprising level of seriousness, "please, apologize to yourself." Waiting a moment to see Noriko's response before letting her proceed.

"Clearly, there's quite a bit of learning for you to do, so from that respect, you're in the right place, Noriko." Jean notes, smiling a bit more lightly as Noriko shuffles to share her first thought. "That is good to know, we'll have to schedule a normal meeting to discuss that topic. But for now, try again, can you name two things you did wrong in this incident?"
Noriko Ashida Nori opens her mouth as if she's not sure why she's being stopped, then when it's explained, "Dude really? I love myself.. but I know how I act around people. Tell me everyone isn't thinking I'm going to end up in prison after high school.. go on, tell me." Still, her frown lightens a little. She's got a pretty pronounced temper, it's right there in her file. "I didn't mean it, at least not about myself. I just see how people look at me. It is what it is, fuck'em." Blinking at her self, "Oh shit, sorry.. Uh.. damn.." She blows out a long sigh, eyes widening as she just keeps digging her hole.

"I'm sorry. To me and for my mouth." Motioning from herself up to her own mouth.

"I stand by, with one hundred percent honesty, that I knew you would know I was lying. So it didn't matter what I said.." She shrugs her shoulders, sheepishly, palms in the air, "I wasn't trying to deceive you, I'm not stupid. I just don't like giving up without a little bit of a struggle, just incase someone's watching." Which she genuinely doubts anyone is.

Two things. Two things, "Okay, I definitely should have just fessed up." One finger held out on her right hand, "And I should have ... not ... uh ... let myself get into a position where I could accidentally break stuff in the mansion or.. possibly hurt someone."
Jean Grey As Noriko questions Jean's correction, she'll feel a force smacking her across the cheek, even though Jean hadn't taken a step nearer. "Noriko Ashida, start listening!" Jean snaps, growing a bit upset that Noriko doesn't seem to listen to her words, so much as to Noriko's own perception of what Jean might be reaching for.

"You are setting a path for yourself, and justifying it by falsely imagining how others perceives you," Jean puts it about as bluntly as she can, "you are building a future prison for yourself, with a perceived present, which isn't even real."

"People looked at me my whole life, Noriko, and yet I didn't become what they expected..." Jean shares a sliver of herself, perhaps enough to suggest to Noriko that her experience isn't all that unique to herself. Of course if she'd wish to learn more, she'll have to spend more time with Jean.

"I feel like you're talking this way on purpose, Noriko," Jean muses, shaking her head, "finding ways to divert attention from what you don't wish to discuss. Namely, what is it you have done wrong?" Jean reminds the blue haired girl.

"Why do you think this is a struggle?" Jean asks when Noriko explains her rebellious approach. Holding up her index finger, Jean notes, "one is falling asleep in the kitche, have the decency and will power to make it to your room, if you lack practice, I can ground you so you'll have no distraction while building a habit...two," she holds up her middle finger as well, along with her index, "you are not working hard enough on control." Jean's eyes shift towards Noriko's unwieldy gauntlets, before quipping, "I'm not just talking about your abilities, Noriko."
Noriko Ashida Noriko recoils and glances around sharply for whoever would /dare/ slap her, until she remembers who she's in the Danger Room with.. There was a second there, just a split second, where her fight mode was turned from zero to thirty... A sneer replacing her sheepish frown, which then becomes a deeper frown as realization dawns on her and.. she proves Jean's point completely.

A gauntlet reaches up to rub her jaw, looking down rather than at the Head Mistress. "Yeah, I take it personally. People form expectations about everyone, I'm not making excuses for who I am, I am who I am, and people just don't like it." That's not entirely true, but she's starting to get defensive. Demeanor closing off a little with her eyes shifting around as if she might find everyone waiting in the wings to point and laugh at her.

"I fell asleep because I like hanging out with someone!" She /actually/ raises her voice at Jean. The vast majority of the time she's been here, it's been more loner and trouble maker than making friends. She has some, but not many, and she doesn't /hang out with them/. "And I didn't want to leave yet.." In a quieter voice, scratching at the side of her head in a frustrated kind of way, turning to look off in any direction that's not Jean.

"Yeah, control.. You're right. So ground me already. We both know that's what's going to happen. Let's just get it over with." Arms crossed over her chest, brow furrowed, little plums of anger radiating through the front of her mind like smoke trying to hide /why/ she's angry. "I /hate/ these fucking things..." Slamming her fists together, pounding her fists until it absolutely has to hurt her knuckles. "I can't do shit without them.. Try to eat a bowl of cereal and I fry a fucking toaster. Or wear them and not be able to tie my shoes without help. This is-" Holding up her fists, "-Is bullshit."
Jean Grey While Noriko seems about ready to pick a fight with Jean, if need be, the Headmistress doesn't seem to even be aware of the rising temper. A bit odd for someone who is an empath among things, but nevertheless, Jean continues to look at Noriko patiently, as if still holding out hope that she may start to listen to her lesson. Because even if held under the guise of reprimend, Jean didn't become Headmistress for no reason. She is likely the most invested out of the founding class, at helping each student fulfil their potential, and reach higher. She may not always be successful, but her intentions come from a good place. At least from her perspective.

"You've been homeless, in the past, haven't you?" Jean asks Noriko, "what made you so...?" A rather odd question, to be sure, if not outright insulting to some. But maybe Noriko started to listen? It was worth a try.

Unfazed by Noriko's rising voice, Jean's retort is a quick, if not a bit savage one, as she once again brings other aspects into the conversation. "Just because you wanted to hang with someone, you misjudged how tired you were, and endangered not only yourself...but that someone as well. Of course there's always the possibility that someone is setting you a trap, or misleading you, or that another someone entirely unrelated, is about to bring an end to both yourself and your someone, because you couldn't be bothered to take the rest you should have known you needed."

Then Noriko calls out for Jean to ground her already, and Jean just laughs, shaking her head. "I'm sorry to disappoint you, Noriko, but neither of us knows it's what's going to happen. Because I know it's not true, and you think you know it's true, which is quite the opposite of knowing something. Actually, thinking you know is more dangerous than not knowing. Think about that, Noriko..."

When Noriko finally reveals how much she loathes the gauntlets, Jean smiles, for the first time since Noriko joined her in this room, it is a warm smile. "Thank you, for finally speaking some truth." Jean says softly, forcing Noriko to quiet down if she wants to hear her. "You're not the first and you're not the only mutant to have hardships when it comes to mastering her power. In any other circumstances, you may have been dead by now...but lucky for you, you found your way to Xavier's and Dr. McCoy was kind enough to devise you a way to cheat out control you don't yet have."

Jean pauses, after having offered another perspective, before noting, "these also allow you not to harm a 'someone' you may wish to hang with," she winks at Noriko, and then approaches her. If the girl will allow it, Jean will reach to embrace her. "Listen, Noriko, we are all here to learn, it can be hard, it can be frustrating, and you may feel alone, or stupid, or weak, but all of that? All of that are lies...together we'll find the truth, but you need to let us help you. So here is your punishment, attend training sessions with me. Understand? You're dismissed Noriko, just, please sleep in your room tonight."
Noriko Ashida "Yes." Noriko wont look at Jean, brushing a dented gauntlet across her jaw. For a small woman she has surprisingly muscular arms and shoulders, but she lugs around 15lb gauntlets near constantly. So the force behind thoses punches wheren't exactly ''dainty''... Each fingers wiggles a little, just to make sure the sting doesn't indicate she broke her hand... it wouldn't be the first time. She definitely knows what that feels like. "My father kicked me out of the house when I was thirteen.. said no daughter of his was going to ''pretend'' to be one of those mutants... can you believe that bullshit? He didn't-..." She snorts a sigh out of her nostrils and frowns, "-Then... I don't really want to talk about this."

Rather than divert, she just puts it out there, crossing her arms over her chest, glaring at the plating beneath her feet.

"I don't know what that means." About thinking and not knowing and knowing but not thinking, it all sort of rattles together in her head until it absolutely jumbles into nonsense. "But I'll take your word for it, I guess."

Her brown eyes cut towards Jean, "I /know/.. but I don't have their situation, I have mine." All this talk about /her someone/... She's trying not to smile, "Stop doing that." Waving at Jean, "Don't, I want to be piss, let me be pissed." She can't and she finally does grin and lulls her head back like a child told she can't have a toy.

"OKAY... Okay I get it." She doesn't fend off the embrace, but her hands do come up defensively from letting it get too mushy or huggy, or last too long. She's got a reputation to uphold! "I can do that." Nodding, rubbing at her neck again, "You think I'll ever.." Holding up both hands, turning them over indicating what she's aluding to, "You know... be able to not wear this all the time?"

As for sleeping in her own room, "Can I at /least/ drink the cough medicine? JOKING, I'm Joking... Seriously, I'm joking."
Jean Grey "Your father sounds not unlike mine," Jean offers, though she shares none of her own story, again, leaving it for Noriko herself to decide if she wants to learn more at a later time. "I'm sorry you experienced that."

Jean looks amused when Noriko admits to not knowing what she meant, "further proves my point, you need to listen more, learn more, it will help you, Noriko. With everything. Control too."

Jean looks quite satisfied that she eventually got through to Noriko, without really using her telepathic powers, something that many do not realize about Jean Grey.

"Yes," she answers the unfinished question, before Noriko asks the whole thing. "Absolutely, Noriko, think of this as training wheels. They do come off, how soon? That's up to the work you're willing to put. I am willing to do it with you." She gives Noriko a look as she insists on the cough medicine, and then offers, "go see Logan, tell him I said he can give you a night cap, but just this once...you're not allowed to drink yet." Of course there's a lesson here too, and Noriko would be fortunate to avoid it, but if she does sees Logan...well..that's on her not listening.
Noriko Ashida Noriko sighs quietly though she never really loses her grin. Whoever someone is, they left a lasting something, so that's a good thing at least right? "Yeah, he was a dick. I hope he.. no I don't." She wont even say it, it's a lie, and Jean clearly doesn't like those. "I just hope he eventually regrets it." Even if he never does.

She has no idea.

"I /guess/... You keep saying the thing about the listening, but I listen pretty good. I heard what you said, it was just one of thos brain riddle things. Like, if you tell me the sky is purple, but I've never seen the sky, I just assume that it is because you said so, so knowing I know something even if I don't know it is wrong... It's... you know.. just I didn't really see how it applied.. at first..." Still rubbing at her scalp, musing that she really needs to reshave it at the bristly hairs she hears scraping against the gauntlets more than feels with her fingertips. Just one more reason she hates her /training wheels/.

"I hope so." Quieter, less grinning, more looking down. "I promise I'll try.. at least harder than I have been trying." That's a conflicting situation since she really kind of likes who she is, even if she doesn't like the gauntlets. Connundrum, "But I'll be here for the lessons."

Nodding at the mention of Logan and the nightcap, "I'll go see him." She did not get that lesson. That one flew right over her head. She was given permission, that's /all/ she heard. Lead a horse to water an dall that "Thanks for not grounding me. Or embarassing me infront of the other students." A weak smile, eyes shifting back and forth around the danger room. "I feel like I've taken up a lot of your time tonight, so if you you're good, and I'm good, and we're comfortable with how this played out... can I.." Thumbing with one hand and pointing with the other over her left shoulder, "Because I'm almost certainly going to say something stupid that gets me in trouble again otherwise."
