Misfit Clocktower Gymnasium.

The lower level of the penthouse houses a gymnasium with 15-foot ceilings, fully equipped with weights, mats, weapons racks for martial arts, and even full showers. The single room is flanked on all four sides by the massive windows that are common in such old buildings, but these appear to be specially tinted a dark shade and can be made completely blacked out so no one can see inside.

Honestly Charlie hasn't ever really trained that she can remember. I mean one would think she would have had to because she seems to know enough to be able to punch and kick would be muggers well enough in her definitely not enhanced costume out there on the streets. Still no karate classes, no Aikido, and no kung fu. No trophies in her .. well no trophies before the fire to be consumed by those flames.

She is wearing a light pair of new sneakers she is still breaking in, nice and flexible but still good for use in the gym and practice. A pair of light black cotton pants, to not restrict movement, and a Gotham Knights tank top and sports bra combo. Good work out clothes.

Which is what Charlotte is doing and not at all gawking occasionally at the amazing view of the city at night. Well not gawking too much. She really isn't used to how fancy this all is. Still she tries so hard to focus on punching, snap kicking, and kneeing the heavy bag, hands wrapped with boxers tape the way she was shown by Barbara earlier in the week.
Carrie Kelley "It is a nice view, isn't it?" The unfamiliar voice rises up as way of greeting during one of the moments when Charlie is distracting herself from training by the view. Carrie hadn't visited in awhile. Long enough it would seem that there were more faces here than those she'd known previously. Yet another redhead, she enters wearing leggings, a Gotham U hoodie, and beat up Puma's that had seen better days but were probably all the comfier for it. An easy grin is worn while regarding the girl there training already.

"Hey. Been awhile since I stopped by, figured I'd check in with the other Birds. New around here?" She was. She knew she was--She'd gotten an update from the Bat computer already on the 'new gal' but it wasn't always polite to admit you knew about someone beforehand. Kind of ruined the whole 'getting to know someone' deal and she wasn't quite at that level of mysteriously knowing things that Batman and some of the elder Robins were.
Misfit One might wonder honestly what it is about Gotham and the female bat associated folk and red hair. Maybe there is a curse on this city and everyone is just playing out a role. Why else would so many of the vigilantes also be either orphans or troubled criminal families trying to make up for the sins of the blood.

Charlie isn't one of those people to wonder about that though, that is more like a Batman puzzle of conundrum really.

The voice is easy to hear since she was staring out the huge windows and not hitting the heavy bag with her fists. "I'm pretty sure I will never get use to this view... it is ridiculous." then she blushes realizing she was caught.

The teenager turns and puts her back to the bag as she takes in Carrie and then mmms thoughtfully. "I am very new yes.. living here.." what with being Damians age and in high school not college and all that, she isn't really allowed to be out on her own and homeless, which is nice really of everyone. She appreciates it desperately. "So you are one of the birds Barbara told me about... " she squints a little "I mean you have the hair and build for a Batgirl but I saw her in the park when Batman found me... she is a blonde." which honestly Charlie makes sound like it is some sort of crime against crime fighting, there is just a bit to the tone.

"I'm Charlie.. or well Misfit is the codename.. man I do not know which one I am supposed to use here."
Carrie Kelley "Whatever you feel comfortable using. This place is your home now sounds like," Carrie points out still smiling. The distance is crossed toward the windows and she regards the scene outside with a deep breath of her own. "Yeah, you'll find that the code names of the Bats are more like titles that get passed down as things change, and people mature. I'm Carrie," she offers tipping her head toward Charlie in greeting. "Otherwise known as Kestrel. I started out with the Birds before Batman brought me in to train more. Still kind of new to this myself compared to the others," she explains.
Misfit Charlie will step away from the bag wandering to peer out at the city below all lit up, well sort of. I mean it isn't New York City or Metropolis. It is Gotham which has it's own vibe and drizzle of rain. Still it is awfully pretty in it's own right.

"Kestral. You have a few mentions on herowatch for Gotham so you aren't completely new..." she smiles turning back to the window. "So like a mantle... that explains all the Robins. There seem to have been a lot of them when you start to research this stuff." she is really trying to play it cool but there is almost no chill inside Charlie.

"I'm pretty sure Misfit is a new title.. though I really don't think anyone was being mean when they gave it to me. So I am just going to totes lean into this one..." a grin. "So Batman is training you... that is amazing."
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley nods in agreement when she gets the notion of the mantle as opposed to it being a singular individual. "A bit over a year. I had a crash course in training last Summer and got right into it. Much as I could anyway." Even now she rarely was in the thick of things prefering to stick back as a supportive role. It suited her well enough, and allowed her to help without getting in the way. Once in awhile that wasn't an option.

"He doesn't really train me directly. I've learned more from the other Robins, and I get critiqued on occasion from him. He's a tough nut to crack." Grinning again she glances over Misfit with a nod. "It's not a bad name at all. Kestrel's a unique one, too. I didn't really call myself anything until Babs brought me in. I figured I'd go with the theme of the group when I chose a name. Plus," she reaches up to tug at a strand of her hair. "Redhead and all. Kestrel worked."
Misfit "Kestral is a good name, makes more since as a bird of prey than something like Nightwing. I am still not entirely sure what kind of bird nightwing is supposed to be... but Kestral is small but definitely in the same family as Falcons." she pauses there and blinks "Crackers.. should I have asked for a bird handle.." her eyes going very big as she thinks about it.

"Maybe I messed up.. I was dressed up as batgirl.. I didn't realize there was a new one and I knew Gotham should have a batgirl and ..well yeah that didn't work out because there already is one and she seemed nice."

Then the subject changes pivoting and all "He made me a deal." she pauses and touches the glass "Haven't seen I knocked out Crazy Quilt in the park but he seems pretty mysterious and all. He said he was going to help me so I can help everyone. He didn't try to convince me I was making doing something bad and he said you all wouldn't make me go back to the foster home... then I got to ride in the Batmobile which was amaaaazing..."
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley reaches out to pat Charlie's shoulder consolingly. "There's enough thematic stuff in Gotham as it is. And there's time to change in the future if you want. Misfit's a cool enough name, and you won't be mistaken for anyone else for sure," she points out with a solemn nod. Nothing is said about Nightwing though. Nope. Not going there. Instead she lightly clears her throat stuffing her hands back into her pockets.

"Yeah, he tried to chase me out of Gotham at first, but when he saw I was serious and not intending to quit he at least made sure I was pointed toward the right people. I think he's realizing that trying to push people away isn't going to work out all that well for anyone involved. Or," she adds with a shrug, "Could be he's just trying reverse psychology. Who knows." She does glance toward her a moment at mention of foster home though. Oh, yeah, there's a reason Bats went soft on her.

"It is pretty awesome isn't it? I got to drive it once. Scared me to death."
Misfit Charlie doesn't notice the avoidance of commenting on how Nightwing is an odd name. She probably will mention it to him when she first meets him though and make things awkward enough.

"I do kind of like it, I am a little odd and I know I am hyperactive.." she admits with a small moment of self reflection and clarity. It is fleeting though because there is other cooler stuff to talk about.

"Well I am glad you weren't deterred." she grins. "Also .. reverse psychology won't work on me.. I'm too psyched about inflicting some dark vengeance on evil doers." okay she says dark vengeance but she is so down right chipper about it and grinning.

"Driving it sounds amazing.. but I am pretty sure I would wreck it within one block. No learners permit. We couldn't afford anything but the bus back home really... and I can get around pretty fast on my own in a pinch so ..." a bit of a shrug. "Barbara has like two crazy race cars and a batmobile too downstairs.. it is so bleeping cool... I wonder if she will let me get a learners permit.."
Carrie Kelley "I'd bet on it. They're pretty big on making sure you get some knowledge of things in," Carrie points out with a nod. "I've got my own car I saved up for. Bit of a junker but it's mine. I keep getting made fun of for it but..." She shrugs a little bit. "Took me a lot of after school jobs to get that." And now money wasn't a concern. She felt guilty about it but at the same time it was such a huge weight off her shoulders. Really, she didn't want to screw it up or take advantage of that fact. That old junker would be with her a good long while more.

"Just remember that you can't kill anyone. Try to avoid that at all costs. Kneecaps are okay though, and don't be afraid of taking some dirty shots to sensitive areas if you need," she advises. "Most important thing is to stay safe, and keep others safe too."
Misfit Carrie has all of Charlie's attention now as she starts to talk about rules and advice on tactics. All of her attention. Carrie is after all an honest to gosh experienced (even if not as much as some of the others) super hero vigilante and everything. Charlie is thrilled to be here, and gosh actual heroes.

"I wouldn't ever... that isn't.. like justice... I mean yeah justice isn't perfect and sometimes it can't stop the badguys right.. which is why we do what we do to protect people and keep them safe. To help people. But the idea of someone dying because of me makes me sick just thinking about it." she looks a bit green like it isn't an exaggeration. "I .. saw an cat ...die once and I can't even think about other animals or people dying because of me." she murmurs very .. very softly. Scars there, more than a pet passing away level in her voice.

It kind of derailed a question she wanted to ask about the car, but it is liable to come back around.
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley purses her lips at the look on Charlie's face. Turning away from the window entirely she does turn to face the other, reaching out to rest her hands on her shoulders. "Good. Don't ever let yourself get that far. But that said..." A deep breath is drawn, and she explains seriously, "You will see some horrible things as time goes on. The poeple we fight don't have the same set of values. It's hard. It should be hard. Life is precious and wasting it... It's a tragedy. Just keep in mind, if you need a break? Take one. We all need to now and then." Except maybe Damian. No, wait. Even he had that one time.
Misfit "I.. " she breaths in pretty deeply. "I know we deal with some bad stuff in this town. Not everyone is like Killer Moth and I mean even Killer Moth kills people sometimes... they are bad and messed up." she really is looking up to Carrie, the girl has like 7 inches on her, she is not just Damian's age she is his height.

"I get there will be gross stuff and blood and even dead people.. I just .. " she frowns "Don't worry I won't let it go that far I won't kill anything.. " there is an odd pause there as she self edits something out "I promise." she seems to really mean it.

Then well she pivots verbally because that is dark. "So.. uh... does it ever get easier getting used to how .. .. like expensive and high tech and luxe all this stuff is. I'm a kid who had to ride the bus and I was in the lunch and breakfast program at my school when I went to it.. and now I am in a private girl's school and ... " she just sort of flail gestures at the gymnasium and the skyline.
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley just laughs at that particular question. "I'm not sure to be honest. It's so different isn't it? I'm used to working and going to school and now I don't have to do that. It feels like I'm cheating somehow, but it's also kind of... a relief?" A faint shrug is given in response. "I guess the answer is, eventually you'll get used to it. I don't know when though. I'm still working on it myself. I've not forgotten where I came from. Heck, even some of the others are like that too. I made tuna mac casserole for dinner once and they ate like they couldn't get enough of it."
Misfit "Okay good.. I mean not good that others also ate a lot of tuna mac casserole.. but good." she sounds relieved. "Because the tech is amazing but .. like military grade ridiculously expensive looking... the batmobile.. jeebus it has to be millions of dollars..." she just shakes her head.

"So good others will understand.. I think I'm going to lose it with the school uniforms and everyone being so.. rich and weird.. it is like all new rules I really have no clue of or how to play..."

"Though.. I get relief... I'm not in a sleeping bag in a condemned building anymore.. and the food is better than all fast food bought with muggers wallet money... which.. they probably stole before I took... man now I feel bad." like it just made her realize the chain of connection.
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley smiles again with a nod as that mental link is made. "Yeah. A lot of crime is because of poverty. I try to keep that in mind. I mean the big name guys, they're just nuts, but a kid stealing from a grocery store? That's different. I've been there." Her head shakes, and she clears her throat. "You'll get used to it in time. I'm in college so I can't say anything about private school, but it's still school."

A little stretch is given, her back popping from the motion and earning a sigh. "I should get going speaking of that. I do have studying of my own to do. It was good meeting you, Charlie."
Misfit "I'm really not sure why Barbara put me in a private school..." maybe because Gotham schools in this area aren't great. Maybe to see what she would do. "I figure I'll learn the rules tho eventually..." and then another nod. "Poverty drives like most crime I think... but it doesn't mean they should hurt people though."

"Okay have fun studying.. I should finish this workout and then check what I need to do for Tuesday... yay for holiday weeks" and another pivot "Maybe we could go on patrol sometime?"
Carrie Kelley Carrie Kelley chuckles as she turns, "Maybe. I'll have to see what they want to do. I'm still new enough as I said that I've not passed into 'patrolling on my own' yet either. But I'll see. Take care," she calls out before heading off.
