Zachary Zatara Zachary has been holed up in the Shadowcrest library all day, which generally indicates one of two things: homework or magic. Homework is almost always accompanied by a host of distractions from obnoxiously loud music to video games to FaceTime calls. He can't be getting too productive, the teachers might start to worry. If magic, he usually pulled out the traditional ritualistic stuff. Candles, incense, maybe a bunny (she was good for experiments).

None of this is present.

Yeah, there are a few textbooks scattered over his table and maybe a mystic tome or two, but they have largely been left unattended. Dressed lightly in an oversized graphic t-shirt and cotton shorts, he is lounging on a cabriole sofa, legs dangling over the sides. He's messing with a communicator of some sort. No, it isn't his phone. It has a 'T' on its surface.
Zatanna Zatara One moment, he's alone. Unless his bunny is around. The next, there is a flash of blue light and Zatanna appears. She's dressed down, for her, in black slacks and a white blouse. Short heeled boots cover her feet.

For a moment, she doesn't realize she is not alone. Her focus is on the bookshelves. She turns to start toward the far wall when she catches his presence out of the corner of her eye. Turning her head sharply, she gives a brief smile. "Zachary. Sorry, I almost missed you there."

Something is wrong. No blaring music, no video games, no candles or chalk drawings on the floor. The smile fades. "Are you alright? Please tell me you aren't possessed too."
Zachary Zatara Green eyes flicker to Zatanna, then back to the device, then quickly back to Zatanna again. "Zee," They widen a touch, as Zachary props himself up on an elbow. "You're back!" Back from where, he's not so sure. Tour, vacation, space, hell. The possibilities are literally endless. But he looks almost happy to see her. Good luck getting him to admit that.

"What, no. No. I'm fine...just trying to figure something out," He looks back to the device in his hand, but something Zatanna says catches his attention. "Wait, who else is possessed?" Normal questions between mages.
Zatanna Zatara "Superman. But that's not to go outside these walls," Zatanna says as she heads for that bookshelf she wanted again. She was already climbing the ladder up, knowing which section to find it in. Pulling out the tome, she cradled it in one arm as she went back down to ground level.

"Maybe. Not sure it is actual possession or something else. Have to work it out.

She sets the book on a table and looks back to him. "Yes, I'm back," she continues, shifting topics fluidly as though it's normal. "Had to deal with a mad monk a couple of dimensions over. Felt like seven hours to me. Color me surprised when it had been a month here." She shakes her head. "I hate dealing with alternate dimensions that don't have like time passage."
Zachary Zatara "My lips are sealed," Zachary drags his fingers across his mouth. A key appears at the motion's end, then promptly disappears. "That's, like, the world's worst nightmare come turn, right? Superman going rogue." Not a hint of worry could be found in his tone. Zee will probably figure it out. He's confident about that, anyway.

"Huh. I got a few calls from your agent. Arnie, I think. You had people worried," Zach may or may not have been one of them. It's hard to tell. "You're back for good now?"
Zatanna Zatara "I'm sorry," Zatanna says sincerely. Whether he was one or not, she's going to be polite nad issue an apology. It's even heartfelt. "I wasn't planned on being there that long. Just thought it was a pop over, bibbity bobity and done but it didn't work out that way."

She puts her hands on the table a moment, looking a little tired. After all, she's not had rest since coming back from that dimension and immediately went into a battle with some other powerful entity. She really needed a nap. "I hope to be back for good, yes." She raises a hand, motioning to the thing he had been holding upon her arrival. "Did you get a new cellphone?" It didn't quite look like one but she wasn't sure what it might be so erred on the side of cell technology.
Zachary Zatara "All good. I've done a decent job at holding down the fort, if I do say so myself," Zachary smirks and swings his legs over, so he's sitting up. "A big mystical scare happened a couple of weeks back, but I think things have settled down. Have you ever met Doctor Strange?" Zach hasn't, but she's been in the occult business for a little longer than him.

"Oh, this?" Zach eyes the device suspiciously, now regarding it in a new light suddenly. "I'm not certain it's -not- a cellphone. It's a gift from Robin. One of them, anyway."

"If I crack the cipher on it, I get to be a Titan," Zach explains. "Not as glamorous as the Justice League, I know, but it could be good."
Zatanna Zatara "The Titans are a great team," Zatanna counters. "Younger heroes, getting the feel for all of it still. It makes sense. I think you would be a good addition. Not sure they have any magical types really on the roster, do they?" Since he's been talking to them, she figures he might know.

A glance is given to the little device as she leans in closer. Like that's going to help her see some way to solve it. "Are there rules to figuring it out? I mean, are you restricted from..." She doesn't finish the sentence but wigggles a figure in the air, leaving a glowing rune behind that fades away a moment later.
Zachary Zatara "I haven't met everyone on the team yet, so I'm not a hundred percent sure. I know they have this one...creature? Looks like he's straight out of Wonderland, but he doesn't cast magic quite the same way we do. He's more infused with the stuff," They are too, to an extent, but they're spellcasters.

As Zatanna leans in, Zachary leeeeaaans out, a natural teenage response to whenever an adult's trying to look over their shoulder. He laughs, "That's totally cheating! I mean, it didn't come with a set of instructions, but..." He looks back at it, eyes narrowing slightly. "The point's to assess whether I have the abilities necessary for the team. Hm. Maaaaaybe."
Zatanna Zatara "I'm not sure I understand the test then. If you are smart enough to use the resources available to you to solve it, how does that make you less qualified to be on the team?" Zatanna has to ask. As he kept that distance between then by leaning back, she stood once more and stopped trying to look at the device. There is a faint smirk on her face.

"Perhaps you should ask them first. It wouldn't do to fail for cheating. Maybe something here could help with the cipher." She waves one of those perfectly manicured hands to the room at large. "I have some studying to do myself. Need to try to figure out what is going on. Oh! Speaking of," she pauses, the tome held under her left arm now. "What is going on with the magic around New York? It's like someone has siphoned much of it away."
Zachary Zatara The wheels are already turning in Zachary's head. It could be a bad idea, but those are pretty much the only ideas he ever dabbles in. Zatanna's word of warning gives him the briefest of pauses, before he shrugs, "They would never know, right?"

He tears a piece paper from a journal nearby and scribbles a few words (backwards, naturally) down. "It's some weird shit with the Sorcerer Supreme. Somebody, or something I suppose, usurped his position, and they needed that magic. I don't know why, and I haven't really got around to investigating it. It seemed like something you'd be better suited to."
Zatanna Zatara "Usurped?" Zatanna echoes in surprise. "I really have got to spend more time in this dimension." She turns to head for the door. "I'll have to look into it right away. Or after this or. Damn. Maybe I need to go to a dimension where time moves slower instead of faster. That would give me enough time to try to look into it all without it getting further along."

She shakes her head as she walks to the library door, pausing to glance back at him. "Seriously, don't do the magic until you ask. Just find out if you are allowed to use all resources available to you. They might have some sort of spell on it that allows for them to know if you cheated."
Zachary Zatara Zachary considers, actually takes a moment to really think, then groans, crumples the notepaper, and tosses it into a trash bin. "You're probably right," His shoulders slump, and he falls back into the sofa. "Back to the books, I guess. There must be a book on cyphers somewhere here." He glances around the room, but his gaze finds its way back to his cousin again.

"Hey, do me a favor? Don't. Get stuck in another dimension, I mean," He's sheepish, as he locks eyes on her, but sincere. "It can get pretty lonely in this house, with no one else living in it. I don't know how you did it before I came along..." *cough cough* "Anyway, if you need any help with possessed Superman, remember you have a cousin in your corner."
