Pippi     The nights were getting longer and cooler, both were fine by Pippi. She spent days in the Lair, training against the heavy duty punching bag that Donnie'd manufactured, or tapping against the 'Bastard on the Wall' trainer, but the nights?

    They were back on patrol.

Refreshed from the trip to Northhampton but feeling uneasy about the accidental meeting with Fisk, Pippi had taken to tailing the Turtles along their patrol routes, and sometimes going out on her own short jaunts.

Tonight she was following her nose. She had been tailing a purse snatcher who had chosen to escape the police by dropping down an open manhole and making a run for it.

So, in the dark as the human man with the ill-gotten purse stumbles along, coming to a junction, Pippi had followed.
Leonardo Since returning to the Lair, some things had gone better in general for Leonardo. However, there was a new matter that was chewing at his thoughts: the current state of Shredder and the Foot, and Wilson Fisk's efforts to begin garnering opposition to what the man was up to. It was confirmed to him that the Nightwatcher was there, and of course Pippi, and while it's had him not sure how far he and the turtles should go with any open or secretive support - or even opposition - he hasn't acted on it just yet. There could be time to lay low and see which way the winds blew.

Right now, they were howling through some of the gaps and spaces between buildings as he shadowed Pippi in her pursuit of the purse snatcher. He wasn't going to get away from Leonardo, of that he had no doubt, but could she track him well enough to stop him? He was a silent presence, there to handle any questions should they arise, but aside from that he was trying not to interfere unless it really looked like they'd lose the man in question.
Pippi     TPippi was appreciative of the trust Leo put in her as she moves, clad in a black hoodie to help hide the lighter parts of her fur. She slips around refuse and discarded items, dipping down low as she weaves in and out, hopping over a low divider before she comes to a halt. She pulls her hood back, her ears prickin gup before she sniffs the air, makes a lefthand turn, and begins tp build up speed, skidding around a corner before --

CLANG!! Followed by a harsh YELP of pain as Pippi falls back, grabbing at her left shoulder.

The purse snatcher hit her with a decent sized metal pipe! The sound rings through the alleyway as Pippi's forced to take a couple steps back.
Leonardo How is one to improve if one is not allowed the chance to, the chance to succeed or fail? In many cases, it is how one handles failure that brings true learning. That is what Master Splinter would have said, and said a lot at one time.

So that is how Leonardo handles Pippi's learning. It's not to say the matter of a purse thief is a small matter. It's important to the one who's left without a purse, and he plans to get it back to her one way or another.

If the thief threatens to get too far ahead, Leo may need to take the lead. Up to this point, Pippi's done a fine job of keeping up with the man's pace, and her ability to track him by scent might just be to her benefit there in ways a ninja like him cannot put to similar use.

Then, an unexpected attack. It might have even caught Leonardo by surprise, though the sound of running having come to a halt came to mind. He did not give her a warning, however. Someone could always be trying to hide in an alcove or side tunnel, intending to double back once the pursuers were past. Swinging a pipe changes the equation, changes it even more when he hears Pippi's reaction. "Pippi? You all right? That's far enough, thief!" he warns the guy, and what minimal light makes it through down here causes him to look like something inhuman.
Pippi     "Ow ow ow ow --" Pippi complains, rolling to one side and hopping up, rubbing her jaw a moment as her ears pin back. Her eyes catch the low light, narrowing slightly as she gives a growl.

"Damn right that's far enough. I'm tired of being chased by you mutant freaks! Why can't you just stay in Bushwick?" the man states, mistaking the two for run-of-the-mill mutants -- and then, pipe still in hand he turns and books it down a side passage.

Pippi bares her teeth, ears pinning back a moment and takes off after the purse snatcher! "I've got 'im!" she calls out, her rear claws scrabbling against the concrete and stone of the sewer way!
Leonardo "You have stolen from an innocent woman!" Leonardo retorts, sounding every bit like the main character he loves to watch in Space Heroes, Captain Ryan. "Prepare to surrender, do-badder!" Out come the katanas, which might be an overreaction to a purse thief, but he did just crack Pippi with a pipe.

The chase is back on, but again he gives Pippi the chance to make the grab first. He'll be ready to step in as needed, if needed. "Keep going," he urges.
Pippi     Pippi just that moment wasn't one-hundred percent sure she heard Leo say 'do-badder', but there wasn't time to ask -- she totally would otherwise, but this awful ringing in her ears could be blamed for it.

Either way, she's in hot pursuit, nose to the wind, and she's faster than most humans, catching up quickly -- the guy throws the purse, Pippi ducks it as the guy turns a corner and the sounds of a struggle might be heard, the corner blind until you come right up to it!
Leonardo Maybe that was the perfect time for Leonardo to say what he did. That way she might not go back to the others ready to share it. Maintaining his pace behind her, he calls out, "Don't fall for the same trick twice!"

She passes right by the purse, but he's quick to scoop it up with one hand, keeping a katana ready in the other. That's when he turns the corner to spot the tussle. "Get him on his back!"
Pippi     There is a scuffle indeed! Pippi's struggling not to use her full strength against the theif, and he's trying to pick her up and throw her away -- not easy to do because she's quick, but easy once caught because she's /not/ heavy.

Beyond the struggle, though, if something worrying -- broken pipes, a massive, deep junction with a cascade of waste water to an overflow below. If either one of them get thrown and caught in the overflow drain... well, it's a /long/ trip to the river.
Leonardo The potential danger in that case is why Leonardo picks this moment to advance further, the sharp, pointy end of his blade glinting in some of the light that filters in from above. "Both of you, stop. Pippi, get away from him, then neither of you move an inch unless you want to risk dying."

The turtle sees the threat, leading to him finally making the decision to get more involved. Besides, she already caught him. "Is that worth it for a purse?"
Pippi     "Why do you think I was gonna thr--" the crook begins as Pippi untangles herself from him, giving a huff, and slowly withdraws backwards.

The guy throws his hands up, his hood over his face as he sighs.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever Space Hero Boy, you gonna read me my rights or somethin'?"
Leonardo "It doesn't matter. You need to rethink the errors of your ways, or you might find yourself in a worse spot than this," Leonardo says, though he pauses at the question at the end. "Why, do you watch..no, nevermind. It doesn't matter. What matters is you're going to go back and give this to the woman you stole it from, apologize, and we're going to be watching. If you don't, you'll wish you did."
Pippi     Pippi drawc loser to the side, giving the guy enough room to walk by her as he takes back the purse, and whispers a 'fine'...' but he looks fairly unnerved now, perhaps realizing just what was behind him, and what could have happened if the dog threw /him/ in.

Pippi relaxes her shoulders, rubs the back of her head and gives a soft mutter of 'Sorry, Leo, I should have just caught the purse and retreated."
Leonardo Leonardo indicates a spot a few feet away from him. "Now stand up and let's go. And apologize for hitting her," he adds, nodding toward Pippi. "That was not very nice."

He speaks in a lower tone to the dog mutant, "You did fine. And you had trouble with a squirrel?"
Pippi     "Uh... I'm sorry... dog-person.. I was wrong to hit you with a pipe." the guy states, sounding a little bewildered at having to apologize.

    "Yous guys aren't cops?"

"To be fair, the squirrel wasn't armed with a pipe." Pippi replies good naturedly, and gives a 'ugh'. "My ears are ringing."
Leonardo "No, we aren't," Leonardo says, looking toward Pippi to see whether or not she accepts the apology. That's mainly on her, but he turns his way again to ask, "What's going so wrong in your life that you think you need to resort to this? To stealing?"
Pippi     "Don't do it again. Or I'll bite next time" Pippi states, crossing her arms a moment and trying to ook tough.

"I... ugh... got into some trouble in Bushwick with some gang. Owe some guy money. That's all."
Leonardo Leonardo sniffs once. "She will, too." Whether she will or not. He gestures for the young man, maybe still a boy based on the way he's looking now, to lead the way back out.

"You should find a more legal way of paying him back. If he's bad enough, we might look him up ourselves." Is he doing this out of some effort to keep a stranger from going down a more dangerous path? Is it as simple as giving him a second chance based on possibly liking the same cartoon? Who knows with Leo?
