An Invitation Accepted
Date of Scene: 07 May 2021
Location: Skye's Brownstone, Greenwich Village
Synopsis: Yao stops in to visit at Skye's brownstone and meets Clint in the process.
Cast of Characters: Hawkeye (Barton), Quake, Yaozu Lin

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Skye often says that her appartment is open to all friends, and that they don't need to knock on an unlocked door to come in. Clint uses to add, that if said door is locked, it's most likely that she and he are otherwise busy and not requiring additional participants.

Right now, the door is unlocked, so anyone friendly can step in without causing any disturbance. The only disturbance inside comes from the videogame console on which Hawkeye is - once again - defeating the Big Boss.

Without even looking back at Skye, all focused on the game as he is, he answers a question she just asked him. "Yup, AAR's all done - well, half done, I mean - and out. There wasn't much to it anyway, routine as usual."

Quake has posed:
Skye laughs at Clint. "When did you say it would be done?" Meanwhile, she's back for the day herself. The remote station needed to be checked for outside break ins. "I had to go back bright and early, but I figured I could do this part as simply from here."

Which meant, if she got enough done, she and Clint could enjoy the evening. And so far, so good.

Yaozu Lin has posed:
An invitation had been extended, and it is one that Yaozu has given some significant consideration to. It's not a thing that he has chosen to take advantage of, until today. Today, he's left the base and made his way to the brownstone that Skye gave him the address of. And today, he finds himself standing before the door of it. He doesn't know about the open door policy that she -- they? -- happen to have. And so, once to the door, he lifts a hand to lightly knock upon the door.

He wears a set of silk robes, dark burgundy streaked vertically with black, the sleeves of them wide. The sleeves of a black silk undershirt can be glimpsed, at his wrists. His right hand has a wireless pulse oximeter ring around his thumb, and there's a silver ring around his middle finger. The sides of his long hair have been drawn back, twisted together and speared through with a silver hairpin.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Despite the sound of the dying Big Boss on the monitor, Clint Barton can hear the light knock at the door. Which kind of comes as a surprise to the archer. Pausing the game, he turns to glance at Skye, a puzzled look on his face. A visitor? Who could it be? Luckily enough, Clint had opted to get dressed - which means he wore a t-shirt and jeans.

"Is the door locked already?" Already, as in, the plan was for it to be locked that night, although not just yet. "You expectin' someone?" Given the door rule they had established, visitors didn't require to be announced in advance, so as far as Clint was concerned, it could be anyone at the door.

Still, Clint remains where he is, sitting on the sofa in front of the large TV screen. Either Skye goes to open the door, or the visitor steps in, or turns around is their choice!

Quake has posed:
Weird. She wasn't expecting anything yet. And Clint clearly wasn't. Unless..

"You aren't pulling another one on me, are you?" She sets her laptop down. "I'll get it, though.. you didn't have to." She *still* doesn't think it's from him, but lately he's been sneaky about presents.

Walking to the door, she tripped on a cat (Grant, of course), and picked him up. "Can I help you.." The door opened to Yao. "..oh.. you. Yao. Somethings wrong? Come in. Clint, we've got a guest." Once the door is closed, she puts Grant down.

Once again.. foiled!

Yaozu Lin has posed:
There isn't an attempt to try the door, to open it, and so Yaozu is unaware of whether or not it happens to be locked or unlocked. And so he waits, and patiently so. His right hand shifts slightly, allowing the sleeve of his robe to fall around it, and he moves his hand to let it rest at the small of his back. A familiar position, for him.

From outside the door, with his altered hearing, he can easily hear the sound of the boss dying in the video game, and the words spoken by those within. He tilts his head faintly to one side, and there's a ghost of a smile that touches at the corners of his lips. One of his eyebrows quirks up just a touch as Skye opens the door, and he inclines his head to her. He lifts his left hand, to offer his fingers to the captive cat to sniff, if the creature wishes, though his gaze remains on Skye. "Nothing is wrong," Yaozu says softly. There's a ghost of a smile that touches his lips, and he inclines his head to her once again before he steps inside. "I figured that I would take you up on your invitation... if it is all right," he adds, tilting his head faintly to one side.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
The console remains on pause for now, as Clint places the controller on the coffee table, raising from his sitting position to walk to the door. Not a paramount of manners himself, the archer still has basic civility, such as greeting visitors when they step in. Standing behind Skye, he takes a moment to observe the visitor, who's a perfect stranger to him.

"Yo Yao," he says, grinning, after he catches Skye pronouncing his name, "Come in," he invites. Obviously, Skye knows him, probably invited him at some point, so he's welcome. On his way back to the kitchen area, the archer catches the other house cat, Wade, and carries him away from the door. There's no way he'll be chasing after escaped cats tonight!

Quake has posed:
"Come in, come in. You threw me off. Normally our guests just let themselves in. We're very relaxed. When you're here, you're family. Unless you've got something from the Trisk.." Skye stops. "You don't, do you?"

After all, both Skye and Clint could be 'late', even though Clint was always late, in fact they gave him extra time to account for his lateness, and Skye? Skye had turned the brownstone into a secure connection so she could work from home.. back when the group had fought 'Kyle' they had to work of site and do it sneakily.

"Would you like a drink? Some food. And if you don't like cats, speak up so that Clint can rope them off."

Yaozu Lin has posed:
The Chinaman turns his hazel gaze towards Clint, watching his approach and studying him as he does approach. His right hand slips away from the small of his back, moving so that the back of it fits against the palm of his left hand in front of him, the tips of his thumbs touching. He bows to Clint, with his arms extended, the movement seeming careful, in a way. The movement also causes his long hair to slip forward over one of his shoulders. "Lin Yaozu," he offers, by way of introducing himself, straightening as he speaks.

Yaozu tilts his head a touch to one side, his gaze turning to Skye, and one of his eyebrows quirks up slightly before he shakes his head. "My apologies. I did not realize that was the case," he says, a thoughtful tone to his words. "Ah... no, I have nothing work related. My presence is purely social in nature," he adds. Which sounds weird to him, to be saying, given that he's not particularly social. Some might even consider him a bit of a loner. "Tea would be welcome, if it is not too much trouble," he requests. Then there's a ghost of a smile that touches the corners of his lips, his gaze flicking towards the cats before he gives a single shake of his head. "The cats are fine. I have no issue with them," he adds.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Yeah, but /they/ might have one with /you/," Clint laughs, nodding in return to Yao's hand gesture. "Close the door, and we'll let them roam around. See what happens."

That said, the archer proceeds further into the kitchen, leaving Skye to fix tea if she wants too. Tea not being his cup of tea - literally - he opts for a pops, found in the well packed refrigerator. There end his manners, that waiting for a visitor to be seated before helping himself with a drink is out of order.

All the way keeping an eye on Yao, special agent Barton likes to get a good first impression on strangers. Asian man, obviously. Would it be the one Skye mentioned briefly the other day? Or totally another one, such is SHIELD that new agents come in everyday. Hard to keep up with all these new faces! If Yao was mentioned in any memo, chances are the archer skipped that one, along with many others.

Quake has posed:
"Yao lives in the suite next to us in the Trisk." Yes, he's the one. He's not the doctor. "I helped him in the gym.. you know." With her powers. "And I'll put on the teapot."

Skye quickly kisses Clint and goes to the teakettle and fills it up. "I got this tea in Chinatown. It's good." Not that it's her favourite drink.

Yaozu Lin has posed:
"They might, this is true," Yaozu says, inclining his head slightly towards Clint. "I have not been around many cats," he adds, a ghost of a smile returning to tug at the corners of his lips. He steps further within the building, nad he closes the door behind him before giving a small nod. "We will see what happens," he says softly. The cats will either accept him or not or perhaps ignore him, and either way will be interesting.

He watches Clint for a moment, and he tilts his head faintly to one side, studying the fellow. There was no memo to announce his arrival, though the appropriate paperwork had been in order, and he had arrived without fuss. "You have the look of someone with questions that are waiting to be asked," Yaozu says softly, tilting his head a touch to one side, his hazel gaze following the fellow. He makes a slight gesture with his right hand, then slips that hand to the small of his back. "Ask," Yaozu adds, a ghost of a smile rising to tug at his lips anew.

Yaozu turns his gaze to Skye, and he gives a small nod to her. "Yes. That is where I live, with Liansong," he says, giving a small nod. Then he inclines his head towards Skye, his gaze lowering out of respect. "It is a debt that I yet owe you," he comments, in regards to what happened in the gymnasium. "The tea from and in Chinatown tends to be good, as far as I have tried it. It is not quite the same as home, but it is somewhat close." Tea does happen to be his favourite drink, which is perhaps not surprising, even though he's not full-blooded Chinese.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Once the door is closed, cat Ward is released from Clint's clutch. As for the archer, he sits down at the table, straddling a chair. "Oh yeah, the one you helped, Skye, with your magic. Wow, lucky guy. But lemme tell ya, Yao, these hands of hers are mine!" Yeah, like he needed to point that out. It never hurts to make sure. An eyebrow is raised as the archer considers Yao's mention of questions. Does he have questions? Of course. All the time.

"Sure, next loto numbers? Does Fury wear underwear? I mean, guys have some kind of bet on that one..." He pauses, and then adds more seriously, "What's your field? Ops, reckon, engineering? I mean, yeah, I missed the memo. Get in line to sue me 'bout it!"
Obviously, Hawkeye is in a good mood, and tries his best to make Yaozu welcome and at ease. Does it work? Maybe.

Quake has posed:
Skye rolls her eyes. "Of course he wears underwear. The question is, briefs or boxers." They've had this one out many a time. "Don't listen to him Yao. He just wants someone to stand on his side!"

Meanwhile the cats are sniffing the guest very carefully. Especially Ward, who really doesn't like most people other than Skye.

The kettle is boiled and Skye pours the water into the teapot which does seem to be old, and simple. "Do we want to sit out here or back in the living room?"

Yaozu Lin has posed:
There's a moment where Yaozu is quite still, and he tilts his head a touch to one side. His hazel gaze has turned back to Clint, studying him. "Death would have been mine, without Skye's help," Yaozu says softly, inclining his head faintly towards Clint. "I do not seek to lay claim to her, hands or otherwise. I seek friendship, only," he adds, giving a small nod.

"Perhaps one of them will be right in the bet they have made. Though asking questions to which I have no answer is of limited use," Yaozu says, a flicker of amusement finding his voice and showing in his hazel eyes. He tilts his head a touch to one side. "If I am to return to active duty, then I expect it will be to a combat team. It is the position I served when I was in Beijing. The front lines, so to speak. There was no memo -- my arrival was rather quiet," he says, a ghost of a smile touching at the corners of his lips. Yaozu seems at ease, his hand slipping softly away from the small of his back. The movement of his hand may be enough to allow a glimpse of the rings worn upon that hand. He glances down briefly, watching the cats for a moment, and he tilts his head a touch to one side. He does nothing to startle or surprise them, and merely awaits their possible approval. One of his eyebrows quirks up slightly, and he gives a slight shrug. "I am fine to sit in either space, whichever the choice is," he says.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
A soft chuckle echoes to Skye's mention of the bet. 'And I got five bucks that say he doesn't wear any," Clint replies, though the joke is lost as it doesn't seem to bring any reaction from Yaozu. As for moving to the living room, the archer doesn't seem to be voting for this option, as he remains well on his chair. "Come on, Keyboard, tea, living room... what's next? I think we're short on crumpets, m'dear," he adds jokingly, using an horrible British accent.

Looking back at Yaozu, the archer nods at the younger, serious, man. "Yeah, front lines is where things really happen," he agrees, Did he notice the rings? Most certainly. "Is that where you got these, in Beijing?" he asks, pointing at them on Yao's fingers.

Quake has posed:
Skye did *not* inherit her Chinese side parent's acquiescence. Probably, albeit she doesn't know this, she is bold, like her mother.

At Clint's insistence she moves makes her way to the living room. "Until this happened he was going to be my sparring partner."

Yaozu Lin has posed:
"They say it is most comfortable, to go... how do they call it? Commando, is it?" Yaozu suggests, a hint of a smile touching at the corners of his lips. One of his eyebrows quirks up slightly, and he steps over towards the table where Clint sits. His steps are unhurried, and once nearer to the archer, he slips his right hand out of his sleeve in order to hold his hand out, with the palm up, for Clint to be able to see the rings. "I would not try that accent in England," he comments, a flicker of amusement showing in his voice and eyes. "The silver one is from Beijing. The other one is a wireless pulse oximeter. The medical department wishes to monitor it at all times," Yaozu says softly. They have a good reason to want to, all things considered, as that had been what had caused his heart to stop in the first place.

Yaozu tends towards the serious side of things on far too regular of a basis. Then he tilts his head a touch to one side before giving a small nod. "It is, yes. It is the best place from which to protect people," he says softly. Protecting people is a bit of a thing, for Yao. He looks over to Skye, and then he gives a nod before half bowing to her. "I will be your sparring partner when all is settled, Skye. My apologies," he says softly, his tone sincere. It's not that he had any control over what happened. It just... started.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Yaozu's ring is closely examined, the craftmanship being remarkable. "Nice ring," Clint says, although he's not one to wear any kind of men jewelry. "And no," he adds, "I'd never use a British accent. My thing comes from a distance, I let others do the talkin' as much as possible."

Just as he was finishing his pops, the Starkphone he had left on the coffee table in the living room starts to emit what is usually the beeping sound of an urgent call. Frowning, he stands and heads in that direction, stating over his shoulders as he walks by Skye and Yapzu, "I'll be right back. Duty calls."
