Looking for possible accomplices
Date of Scene: 25 June 2021
Location: Columbus Park - Chinatown
Synopsis: Clint looks for possible accomplices and finds a very paranoid woman with an interesting story
Cast of Characters: Hawkeye (Barton), Sarah Connor

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Somehow, the two men Clint was chasing down the building disappeared in the crowd. Reaching ground level, the archer quickly looked at the people in the park, to find the men or see if any looked suspicious. Two men on the rooftop could not work efficiencly without ground cover, exactly in the case they wanted to chase Bruce and Cap.

The good news was that Clint had been notified by Cap that they were in a secure location now. The bad news was, well, that no one knew who the masked guys on the rooftop were. Up to Clint to try and discover who they were.

Among the people in the park, a woman gets the archer's attention. He had seen her follow Cap and Bruce, so he might as well try to see if she has anything to do with it all.

Once he grabbed his sport bag, he starts in her direction, almost casually. No need to start anything, especially if she's only an innocent bystander.

Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah had stayed back when the shit hit the fan so to speak. Considering the men had just disappeared, and the main men, Bruce and Captain, kept on without noticing her, she didn't she the point in introducing herself.

She just slipped away. Easy as that.

Except, it wasn't so easy.

She didn't expect the third guy, Hawkeye, to get on her trail. At first she wasn't aware of him. He was good. But she was too, and she became very nervous that somebody was watching her.

"Fuck." Was all she said, and she moved through the crowds to a copse of trees to avoid the trail on her back.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Well, he's not called "Hawkeye" in vain, and he can easily follow a target among the crowd, thanks also to many years as a veteran SHIELD agent.

Nonetheless, Clint can't just neutralize her and get any information out of her. The woman is just a person of interest, and well, neither SHIELD nor the Avengers would like to have to bail out Clint from jail for assault in the park!

So as long as he keeps his eyes on her, the archer feels no urge to run to her, still he walks deliberately in her direction. Want it or no, ma'am, he will talk to you!

At about twnty feet from her, he raises his hand in a greeting gesture, "Hey ma'am," he says, unsure if she already recognized him, "You've got a minute, just a few questions for you?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
She had recognized him, or to be fair, at first she had recognized something that /looked/ like Hawkeye trying to 'capture' her. Remember she is paranoid, and with good reason. When anybody could be copied? Yes, she did not trust anybody.

Sarah had just about made it to the trees, when he called out to her.

*Damn it. There were people, innocent people everywhere.* She turned, and carefully put her hand behind her back to release her revolver, keeping her hand on it. "Don't come any closer. Who are you really?"

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Stopping in his tracks, Clint keeps his hand up, this time more in a calming gesture. Woah, this woman seems a bit stressed. Again, he's not here to create a commotion, and if she has nothing to do with it all, well, what would be to point to scare her. Hopefully, the bow still in his hand won't be too intimidating, and he lowers it, to make it less menacing.

"That's a good question," Clint replies, "I've been asking the same to myself for years. Quite sure my girlfriend is also wondering 'bout it. Now, if you want a name, I'm Clint." And just for good measure, he offers her a large grin. "And you?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
Not good enough.

"What's today's date.." Sarah actually had another idea. "Who's your girlfriend?" Much better. He couldn't actually change bodies and get that kind of information easily, much less *right now*.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Right, she /is/ really paranoid! What is she afraid of? With a sigh, Clint rubs his forehead with the back of his hand, thinking that she's probably on some drug high rather than being part of the ambush against Bruce.

"Dang, I'm used to be the one askin' questions..." Still smiling, he finally answers, "We're June 25th, 2029, my girldfriend is Skye, and ma'am, I'm no Skrull. I can draw blood if you want a better proof?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Ha! It's not the Skrull I'm afraid of." It seems he has answered her questions for now, and Sarah removes her grip on the firearm in her back, and slowly raises her arms to show him she is not holding a gun. "Don't worry about blood flow. If it were that easy, do you think I wouldn't have asked you instead?"

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
With a chuckle, Clint shakes his head in the negative. Likewise, he places his bow back in the sport bag.

"Hey, this is New York City, ma'am. Asking a stranger to draw blood is /normal/ here. As much as carrying a handgun, y'know."

Did he notice her gesture when she grabbed her gun? Possible.

"Well, green blood is a good indication that someone isn't human. Been there, done that." Yeah, hard to forget that he actually killed his wife Bobbi when he discovered she was indeed a Skrull. Bad memories.

"So if not the Skrull, who are you afraid of?" There's plenty of creeps around, lining up to destroy the City and the planet.

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Really?" One eyebrow was lifted. "Do you really want to know?" She had been locked up trying to spread the truth before. Bad times.

She did notice his putting away the crossbow. It was another plus on his side.

"I'm watching out for machines. Terminators. They're trying to kill me a.. me." Don't mention John unless you have to. She shrugs. "What were you friends looking for?" And if she didn't hear half the conversation.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Of course, I want to know," Clint replies, as he looks around, some dirty looks at anyone looking at them and silently inviting them to mind their business. In doing so, he spots an empty bench a few feet away, and motions in this direction.

He's in the business of getting info, not divulge it. "I don't know what themy were lookin' for," he says, honestly he's not sure about it, "I was here to provide cover. And well, I should practice running down twelve stories, cuz they went away." He pauses, waiting to see if she will accept to sit down, "Terminators? I know Transformers, but not Terminators. Heck, just the name is interesting. Who or what are they?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah nods with her head. "That one." It was as far away as they could go without disappearing into the underbrush.

Once there, she shrugs. "Who are they? They're from the future, sent to make certain we don't finish what we have begun, to ensure that they still exist. Me? I'm trying to make it as hard for them to be created."

She didn't mention Judgment Day, nobody needed to hear about that unless they were actively fighting against it.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Sitting on the bench, sport bag at his feet, Clint listens to what the woman is saying. Sent from the future? Alright, either she's high on some good shit, or there's something worth listening to there.

It's good that she chose the bench situated far from the main path, and the archer makes sure no one can hear their conversation. He's not the most paranoid, but hey, better safe than sorry as they say.

"Ok, so the Terminators travel to our times, to stop you from... stopping them, right? And who created - or will create - them? Do you know?" As he speaks, Clint doesn't give the impression to doubt what she's saying because... well beacuse, he has seen so many weird things, that this would be by the par in the list of events.

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Skynet under its subsidiary. It was Cyberdyne. Now?" Sarah grits her teeth and can only shake her head. "I know. It's crazy. You don't have to tell me. Machines from the future?"

Really, Sarah probably told him too much. Especially if he decides to blab it to the FBI, after all, she was a wanted felon. Wait a minute..

"Avenger's huh?" Were they in cahoots with the government?

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
In the recent months, the archer has met a lot of people who already knew who he was. Possibly due to too much exposure in newspapers, still, this never sat well with him. Too late for anonymity, gone the good old days when the identity of the Avengers remained undisclosed.

"I'm just a guy carrying a bow and arrows around," Clint grins, not confirming his being a member of the Avengers, "Right. What do you mean, in cahoots with the government? It /does/ happen that we're called in for some problem, but most of the time, we're dealing with the problem before they even know 'bout it. So naw, not really in cahoots as in /we work for them/. We don't."

If what she's talking about is real - and Clint will have to run some search on this Skynet/Cyberdybe gig - this could be big.

Sarah Connor has posed:
Damn. She may have opened her mouth a teeny bit wide. Think, Sarah. Think. Did you mention the mental hospital? Her time in there? Her name?

She thinks.. no, she didn't mention anything except the Terminators and Cyberdyne. She might be okay. Maybe.

"Just a guy carrying a bow and arrows around, with your friends Bruce and Steve. Riiiiight." She didn't believe it. At least her anxiety was going down. If she recalled, sometimes they were at odds with the government.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
And if she ever cared to learn more about Hawkeye - which, understandly, would be strange to start with - she would also know that he's one of the Avengers with a definite rogue side to him. Orders, ranks, policies and procedures? To him, they are only created to be ignored.

"And you, nameless lady, know more about the Avengers than your generic Doe." He grins at that, sure now that the men he was chasing after are long gone, Cap is safe, and this woman has a strange story. Might as well try to learn more.

"So," he says after a moment, "You thought I could be one of them, these Terminators. Don't tell me they decided to all look like me because of my amazingly good looks?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
Okay, that was funny. Sort of.

"Don't you have a girlfriend, hrm?" And then her smile was gone. "They don't really care what they look like. They're replicas, to replace the humans. They sound like, smell like, think ostensibly like.. except they aren't. They have a purpose and if you get in the way, you die.

Sarah nods. "I saw you on the roof. You could have been taken over by a Terminator to get me to talk with you, and eventually to know where I call home." That's as much as she has spoken of herself.

'home'. Just the word.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint laughs at that, the mention of his girlfriend, "Yes, I do have a girlfriend," he says, "What's amazing, is the fact that I don't have many more, hey."

The he gets more serious, as the woman explains how the Terminators act. "Yup, sounds like Skrulls à la Stark. Ugly green shapeshifters but with a technologic twist. With them, you draw blood and if it's green, well, then it means green light to kill. I'm no killer by nature, but I'm pleased to make exception for Skrulls. I guess Terminators would join the club."

At the mention of home, this reminds him that she did /not/ reveal her name. "You know, if the Termitetators are /that/ of a threat, and they seem to be, surely you could find allies to fight them. I mean, heck, Kree, Skrulls, Thanos, Loki... we've got our share of vilains defeated, we could give a hand. I didn't catch your name?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Sarah." She's okay with that. Most of her aliases are Sarah something. Sarah Reese. Sarah Baum. You know, Sarah.

"These are hard to kill. There's a switch in the back of their brain too, that you have to make sure it is dead. They are quite adept with repairs." Yay, a /self repairing/ replica. She meant it when she says 'I'm paranoid'. /Anybody/ could be them.

And there was Cameron to boot.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Pleased to meet you, Sarah," Clint replies, not asking for more details on her identity. He's not one to push people and annoy them with bazillion questions, he leaves that to the experts.

But of course, again, if what she says is true, then this is serious matter.

"And I'd be paranoid too," the archer concurs, "I mean... they could be anyone. Heck, /you/ could be one! How can they be detected? I can't really go around and check for a switch in people's brains. This wouldn't fly well in a bar or on the beach, y'know."

Sarah Connor has posed:
"And there you see the problem." How could Sarah trust anybody, really, how could she trust?

He could be tricking her to find when her son lies, and that point it would be over. /How/ could she let down her guard? John's life depended on keeping her guard up.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint remains silent for a moment, getting a better idea of what it could mean if this was real. He has seen worst things in his life, and will not discard what Sarah says just because it might sound strange.

"You aren't giving me much to start working on," he says, "But say, if you trust that I am not one of them, could we like, I dunno, share a password or something, that we could use to make sure we're who we are?"

Sarah Connor has posed:
"Well, we met at Columbus Park. What about Columb.. no. " Sarah smiles wickedly, which is rare for her. "Columbo. There once was a television show called Columbo. You remind me of him." Not very flattering if you have seen it.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
There a hurt look on Clint's face, as Sarah mentions that he reminds her of detective Colombo. It seems obvious that he too, remembers these television shows.

"Shit... I mean, woah, I remind you of him? I think you need glasses, Sarah. I'd go for Hugh Jackman as a comparison, or David Beckham, even Brad Pitt. But Colombo?" He sighs at that, but in the end, it would do as a password. "Fine! Colombo it is, I'm not about to forget it, hey."

Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah shrugs. "I didn't say /how/ you reminded me of him."

And that was all she says. After all, how could she explain that there was more to him then he pretended. Like Columbo. He often seems like a fool, but he really wasn't. Like Clint. And that worries her a bit

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
She isn't the most talkative person he met in some time, but it can be understandable given the situation. At least for now they have a password they can use to make sure of their identity. It's a start.

Clint knows that trust is not something automatic - heck, he rarely trusts anyone - and that it has to be deserved. Reaching for his bag, he finds a piece of paper and a pen, and quickly writes down his phone number. Then he offers the piece of paper to Sarah, "Here, if you need me, or /anything/, or just want to talk, phone me." He then chuckles, "And don't worry, my girlfriend is used to women calling me in the middle of the night."

Sarah Connor has posed:
Sarah memorized the number and handed it back.

"Your girlfriend is either stupid, or for whatever reason trusts you implicitly." Right now? She hasn't a good, solid reason to place in one or the other category. "Thanks. I'll use the number if something comes up."

Not. At least she doesn't plan on it. But stranger things have happened.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Again, Clint can help but laugh at the comment about his girldfriend, "Sorry, what you said is funny. Maybe one day you'll meet her. Tell you what, if I'd /dare/ to cheat on her - which I don't - she could beat me to a pulp. Naw, we just trust each other. I don't lie to her, I don't lie to you. There are plenty of liars, I'm not one of them."

On that, he stands and grabs his sport bag. He has some research to do, first by himself and, depending on what he can find, he might let some others in the know.

"Take care, Sarah. Again, use that phone number if you need it. Anytime."
