Date of Scene: 15 February 2024

Synopsis: Imra calls the Justice League for help only to reach Batman himself!
Cast of Characters: Batman, Saturn Girl

Batman has posed:
The role of watchtower duty is one of the Justice League's tried and true traditions. Every member of the team must take their turn, and every member of the team has their own way of dealing with it. Some of them take it extremely seriously and go there with the explicit focus to keep a close look out on the state of the world, delving in deep and close with intelligence satellites, or monitoring datafeeds. Others feel the obligation but know that rarely does anything trigger, and anything with a large enough footprint will be brought to their attention. Some deal with the passage of time by reading or catching up on other obligations. But then there are those like Batman...
Who prefers to work during his shift.
"Go for Batman." Are the words that are growled into the comms system that are carried across the hyper pulse network and relayed through the watch tower. The voice is abrupt, intent, and joined by the distinct sound of a groan in pain coming from... someone other than the Bat.
Saturn Girl has posed:
"Uhmm..."

There was the less than confident response from the voice on the other end of the line. Imra was currently on the bridge of the Legion cruiser. A cruiser that was currently without their normal capabilities as the engines were offline for maintenance tonight. Because of course they were when something actually was happening in the Solar System they occupied! It couldn't happen any other night.

"I thought I was calling the Justice League." Her accent was slightly different. Not something that could be placed because it had developed far, far in the future. But she was speaking English so at least was understandable.

"My name is Imra Ardeen, codename Saturn Girl." Because he was Batman and part of the Justice League. It wasn't like her name was a big secret!. "I'm a member of the Legion of Superheroes. We picked up something coming into the solar system out near Pluto and wanted to see if you might have anyone in the area that can go check it? I have my flight ring but fear it won't get me there quickly enough."

She listened to the groan of pain and paused. "Is...this a bad time?"
Batman has posed:
To be fair Batman is monitoring the watch room. A small window on his HUD is open in the corner of his augmented reality display even as he focuses on the approach of the two remaining men there in the Gotham rail yard. It is more just that he is multi-tasking. Time is precious.
There's a swing of a metal pipe that is heard as it clangs into a heavy fence post as Batman rolls to the side, leg slicing out to sweep the legs out from the attacker. He continues with that same flow of motion, ending the roll to where the man lands and kneeling heavily with a knee on the fallen man's neck. The second thug's rail hammer swings _down_ to try and shatter the vigilante's skull, only for Batman's fist to slice upwards and catch the haft near the grip and arrest the attack. He roughly pulls the last of the attackers into a tight headlock...
Then proceeds to hold the two men there while he steadily chokes them both out. Which leaves time to respond to Imra Ardeen.
First the response. "You've reached the League."
There's the slightest crackle of leather heard, then suddenly only the voice as he glances over at the comms tab on his display and blinks in a specific sequence to implement the discrete audio feed, cutting out the sounds of everything else around him so she'll only hear his voice.
She asks her final question and his voice has a hint of exertion to it, but nothing else. "No, it's not."
For a few moments she hears nothing else. Then that gravelly voice is heard again. "The object at 49.301 Aphelion, and 29.651 Perihelion?"
Saturn Girl has posed:
Considering he pinned it right where she had it tracking, Imra was impressed. Despite the fact it had sounded like he was in a fight. But now it was just him talking, though his breathing was slightly faster than the norm as though he had been exercising perhaps?

There was far more going on than was being shared. Yet, it was none of her business. "Exactly. We think it might be a spacecraft but unknown species at this time. We just wanted to be sure it's either passing through or is friendly. No need for contact unless something changes. The trajectory does have it passing very close to Earth if it remains on the current heading."
Batman has posed:
As the men slip into unconsciousness, Batman leans forwards, a faint plastic whir heard as he pulls a zip tie from the feeder on his belt, sliding it around the wrists and ankles of each man and attaching them with a firm click. Then he pushes himself to his feet, cloak falling perfectly around his silhouette as he steps away from them.
A hand lifts to the side of his head as he lifts his chin and shifts channels. "Oracle, conflict is resolved at the railyard, moving toward Coventry. GCPD inbound, 3 minutes."
He then shifts back to the communication channel with Imra as he starts walking, reaching a gauntleted hand to his belt and unholstering the grapple line even as he observed that window in the corner of his HUD. For a brief moment. He frowned.
"Green Lantern is in range, fourteen minutes to target. His parabolic orbit would bring him close enough to rendezvous with you in three unless you can get there faster on your own." He checks the display on his wrist, turning his palm upward as he keys a quick command sequence then holds off on the last button awaiting her answer.
Saturn Girl has posed:
"With the Cruiser down at the moment, I can't get there that quickly. He is welcome to come aboard if he would like to and we can assist if things become serious when it gets within range. I'll be sure everyone knows he might be boarding."

She tapped a few buttons on the controls, pulling up the information on the ship and the path it would be taking. It hadn't changed course since entering the system.

"I could meet him at Mars if he would prefer? My ring should be able to get me there in the time offered." That way they had a little time if there needed to be an escalated response, rather than the closest point to Earth the ship might travel.
Batman has posed:
At her answer he nods to himself, then hits that last button while shfiting to a third channel, his voice reaching across the distance. One of the men behind him slowly begins to stir, though finds himself hog-tied and restrained. Yet he's able to hear the gravelly voice.
"Lantern, sending you coordinates now, need a recon. Saturn Girl is already en route and lies along your path, suggest you coordinate with her."
When he gets the response he nods again then hits the final keystroke, dispatching that data and the mission.
    He switches channels again.
"Saturn Girl." There's the sharp WHUMPF of the grapple line being fired, then the snap of it being drawn taut. Suddenly the vigilante is drawn into the air. At the height of his arc his cape snaps open allowing him to glide across the distance. "Lantern is en route. He'll take you and your team to the location. A stronger presence of force might be what's needed."
His boots crunch on the gravel rooftop as he sets down in a half-kneeling posture, then pushes himself back to his feet. "Keep me apprised of the situation."
Saturn Girl has posed:
"Keep you....You want me to call you back?!"

Her voice went up ever so slightly in surprise at the end of that question.Imra took a quick breath and held it, counting to three. Then she let the breath out, the sound able to be heard on the mic despite her best attempts.

"Of course, Batman. I will be glad to do so. You can give Green Lantern this frequency if he would like to reach me directly. I'll be able to communicate through my ring." They weren't Lanterns but those Legion rings were pretty handy as well. "Thank you, sir."

And just before she flipped that switch to turn off the comms, she couldn't stop herself. "And it's been a true honor speaking with you. You, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Justice League. Were such huge influences in the Legion even being formed and I just wanted to say thanks since I might not have another opportunity."
Batman has posed:
Poor Imra as she says those kind words, opening her heart out to the stern vigilante. She tells him about the influence the League has had upon her history and how they figured into her world view.
    Batman responds.
    "Noted."
Then there's a few more moments of silence before she hears his voice again. "Keep up the good work, Saturn Girl. Looking forward to hearing from you."
And then the line goes dead.
Saturn Girl has posed:
Noted. That was it. Yet, Imra wasn't disheartened. Because truly, that was all she wanted. Him to know what a positive influence he had been. Out there fighting the good despite not having what people considered to be superpowers. He was proof that humanity was amazing.

But when he added the rest, Imra felt her heart about to burst out of happiness. If she knew the story of the Grinch, she might equate it to her heart growing as his had. Though she hadn't been a Grinch or even close ever.

She turned off the comm and rose to her feet, rushing toward the airlock to be able to exit the cruiser and head out to meet Green Lantern. And on the way she let out a little "Squeee!" sound, though only because she was alone and no one would know about it, along with that extra skip in her step. Then back to serious.

It was time to go to work.
