Tinyplot: Changeling

Quake has posed:
The thing about protective custody is, it's only relaly protective if you stay where you're put, and, you know, you don't sneak out.

Turns out there was a casual eye on Clint and Skye, but more in line with making sure that they were okay, and that nobody had popped in and dragged them off - it wasn't like there wasn't precident for folks just 'popping' into the Triskelion from time to time without any invitation. But it really wasn't meant to keep them from leaving.

Not really.

Chang Yu had given Skye enough information for her to hunt her father down. Sure, she could have sent word, and set up a meeting place, but something about that smacked of a setup. And she wasn't sure he'd trust that. As much as she knew it was maybe foolish (okay, very foolish) to go to his lair, so to speak, not having him in a public spot where she knew he had a history of no fucks given and wrecking the join, meeting him on his own home grounds made sense.

That, and Skye wanted to see where he lived. What it was she didn't get about him.

Turns out, not only was nobody really paying all that attention to her, but nobody took away her access to anything. Wise, given she was still on the duty roster as an independant at the moment; not so wise when she managed to arrange with the motorpool to have a Gretel ready for her, and all the necessary security clearances already waived.

In short, Skye's flight from the Triskelion was way too easy. The only other detail she'd had to deal with was a note on the top of the six-pack of frou-frou beer in the fridge:

"I'll explain when I get back. <3 Skye"

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Indeed the escape was all too easy. Made more so by the fact word hadn't been widely circulated about Clint and Skye being locked down, so when Skye made her escape the guard at the gate actually waved to her as she passed by.

Yep. All to easy.

Tracking Cal down though, that was harder, whoever was doing his computer work was a pro, top tier and not someone who's code Skye would have come across before. Though, in the end it was crackable and it looked like last time the message system was accessed was from a building in Milwaukee of all places.

Quake has posed:
"Milkwaukee?" Skye frowns, and sets her tablet beside her, putting Gretel into gear, and navigates her way through the streets and byways until she's on the road to where she's going. The code is a bit of a niggle. Lotus? Mmm. Maybe? Kyle? She's shit herself if it was Genus, but she didn't think it was him. There were a couple other candidates, but it wasn't worth worrying about right this second. This wasn't about finding a coder, this was about confronting Cal.

First she had to find him, though.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
It's a long drive. Roughly fifteen hours across country with the traffic and bridge gods being merciful, but at the end of it Skye finds herself in front of the building she tracked the connection to. It's seen better days, broken and boarded up windows on the lower floors, and the upper floor windows are dark.

It looks like it's been neglected for years.

Quake has posed:
Clint, Skye is sure, is going to shit bricks - like huge concrete slabs of bricks - when he finds out. Especially when it comes about how long this trip actually is. In retrospect, she could have planned this much, much better.

However, best laid plans and all that..

As for the house, Skye isn't put off. She's stayed in more than one like that before. It's what you did when you didn't have a home of your own, or any other shelter. Until she'd gotten Gretel, squatting had been her life, and the more derilect the place was, the less people scrutinized it if you were careful not to make them look by creating signs of life around it.

She wasn't sure if Cal were there or not, but there was a likelihood she'd get answers once inside. Even if it were just a server scrambling and rerouting traces.

She uses the back door. Or window. She's not picky.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
The back door on the main floor gives way easily and the handle is relatively clean. Inside it looks like one of dozens of low-rise professional buildings, rows of doors with glass windows the names of the businesses that once occupied them written across them in black font.

Down by the elevators, there's a little board with white slide in letters detailing where to find what office. One of them stands out: Dr. C. L. Johnson - 502.

Quake has posed:
SHIELD training says she should secure the area. That she should check all of the doors. However, SHIELD training didn't have a section for how to deal with pscyhotically insane, rage monstering fathers.

That, and if this were a trap, she was pretty sure she was past any help for it anyway. The ICER in her pocket was feeling rather ineffectual now.

Still, she had a floor, and a number of a door. It likely wasn't co-incidence that it was C. L. Johnson. Maybe a little too easy, but at this point she'd come entirely too far to drop back and think about that one more critically.

Besides, if he wasn't there, she could pull out her laptop, and set up a meeting proper - something she was now wondering if maybe she'd made a mistake of judgement on.

Ah well, no hope for it now. She'd drove 15+ hours. Skye wasn't about to turn around and head home without some resolution. So, up the stairs, and looking for 502 she goes.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
As she reaches the floor she finds the lights on in the hallway.

Going further towards office 502, Skye can hear someone humming the tune of 'A Bicycle Built for Two'.

Then suddenly the humming stops and a voice bellows. "NO!" there's the sound of breaking glass. "It's not right. still not right..." says the voice as heavy feet begin to pace. "It's never right."

Quake has posed:
Now she hesitates. Really, it's not a co-incidence that it's /that/ song. There can only be one answer. There is no way some *stranger* is humming that song. Not unless you could her father as a stranger (and he is, in more ways than one).

Cal.

Skye had no doubt it was him. And now that she was here, and he was there, she wasn't sure what to do. So much so that it was with surprise that she found her feet moving down the hallway towards room 502, almost of their own volition.

Outside the door, Skye hesitates again, hand on the doorknob.

If she opens it, she's committed to this act. If she doesn't, she can slink away and pretend none of this happened.. Only it had. She hadn't just driven 15 odd hours to get here to find this man, she'd spent a lifetime wanting to know who he was, and the only way to get any answers to that was to open the door to office 502.

Ground. Centre. Squeeze, not pull... Skye opens the door.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
The man on the otherside of the door is not the hulking brute from the hallway in Markovia. Just a man in a dirty lab coat with messy mud brown hair and a similarly coloured jacket hung over the back of a nearby table.

He pushes his hand through the tangled locks and casts his eyes around the room looking for something, "Where did I put that broom," he mutters.

He doesn't find it, he finds Skye.

His eyes widen and jaw drops, like he can't believe his eyes.

"D-Daisy..." he asks reaching out a hand to her from across the room.

Quake has posed:
Skye just stands in the open doorway, and, well, it's not quite staring at the man, but it's close. She didn't expect him to look so.. normal. Not after all the incidents that have been tallied up with him at the centre.

"I go by Skye," she says quietly. "Daisy was someone else."

Which really wasn't what she wanted to say. At least not now. Not yet. This man hadn't earned that of her. Not the explanations, that is, and he wouldn't understand the brief statement for anything more than a slap, she supposed. But it was out there now, and she couldn't retract it.

"I heard you wanted to talk to me. I'm here. So talk."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Cal scowls and lowers his hand, "I /tried/ to talk to you in Madripoor but you ran away, what changed?" he as he turns aside to swap his lab coat for the jacket on the chair. "And you may call yourself Skye, but you'll always be my Daisy," he says the scowl faded, to a thin serious line across his lips.

He straightens the blazer, brushes off a bit of errant dust. "You caught me at a disadvantage, there's so much to say but I don't know where to begin...do you want to go for noodles? Remember I asked back in Madripoor, I planned to tell you everything over noodles. You do like noodles right? I didn't hear that wrong. If that was the problem before..."

Quake has posed:
Skye holds her ground at the doorway, and shakes her head.

"No. You don't get to tell me who I am. I'm my own person. You lost that right long ago."

"That wasn't me in Madripoor. You stole my boyfriend. You had him hurt. You put other people in danger - an innocent woman was nearly killed. A building of innocent people were nearly killed because of you. You don't get to call me Daisy. You can call me Skye."

The noodles, though, that tugs at her. Despite herself, she can't help a hoarse little laugh. "Noodles? Really? That's what you.." More head shaking. "How can you know that about me, and not think how angry and hurt I'd be by what you did to Clint? How?"

Skye exhales shakily.

"How can I trust you not to hurt people if I go anywhere with you? You hurt people dad. That's what you do."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"What do you mean it wasn't you?" Cal demands. "I SAW you there. I TALKED to you. You're saying it was all some TRICK? Do you know how much planning I went through to make that meeting happen. How long I WAITED just to see you and it was all a LIE?"

He knocks a filing cabinet open with a shove. landing with a thud on the floor.

"And you make me sound like a MONSTER," he says. "I only hurt the people who stood in the way of finding YOU," his anger turns from hot to deadly cold. "Like /Lumley/," he grits the name through his teeth. "It's his fault I had to take Mr. Barton, had he just surrendered like a good little agent, I'd have been able to trade him for your gift instead."

Quake has posed:
Skye's lips purse into a tight, thin line. "You ARE a monster," she says quietly. "Let's get this straight, you touch someone I care about ever again, and I will *never* talk to you again in my entire life. Understand me? You get one chance at this. One."

His shove of the filing cabinet sets her heartbeat into faster registers, but outwardly she holds calm.

"Say it. Say you understand. *Promise me* that you will never touch someone I care about again, or I walk."

She waits.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
That gets through to him.

He stands there like he'd been shot in the gut, blinking, mouth open. For a moment he does nothing but stare, then he moves forward, bends, then lifts the cabinet back into place.

"I am not a monster," he insists quietly, as he rights the cabinet then ducks down to collect some of the papers that escaped. "Just a man who's done monsterous things to bring his family back together."

He sets the papers down on top of the cabinet and looks to Skye. "And fine, I won't touch anyone you care about," he says even making an X over his heart. "I promise."

Quake has posed:
Skye exhales the breath she wasn't aware she was holding, and nods. "Good. We understand one another then."

"You can't go around hurting people and justifying it, dad. You - you, not them - you kept you away from me. If you'd ever, once, not been that person, I wouldn't have been hidden away all my life. I never would have had to grow up wondering what it was I'd done that was so terrible that nobody wanted me. How.. How.."

Her voice breaks and she wipes at her cheek. There are no tears there yet, but it's a close thing.

"You wanted to talk to me," she repeats. "I came a long way to find out what it was you wanted. I thought maybe we could.. I don't know. I don't know what I thought. But I'm here now."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Oh, no, no, no, once SHIELD took you, I knew they'd never give you back. It's what they do, they take and they take and they take and what they don't do, they catalogue and tag like sharks," Cal mutters, shaking his head. "It wasn't my fault, I did all I could to protect you, to keep you safe, but the villagers, the DIDN'T DO THEIR JOBS. They didn't protect you. They LET you get taken."

He manages to get a grip on his rage. "But I know it's been hard for you, now that I found you I know, all those foster homes, all those orphanages," he finds himself choaking up a little too as something occurs to him. "Wait... you called me dad... twice now," he says with a bittersweet smile. "You don't know how long I waited..."

He lets out a breath and dabs at his eyes. "And yes, all of this surprised me too," he says chuckling nervously. "Of course, I've waited so long and now you're here, for real this time, and I don't even know where to begin..."

He straightens, squaring his shoulders and adjusting his tie. "I guess the best place to start is the beginning," he says sounding almost chipper. "Dai-" he begins before holding up a hand to stay any protests. "I mean Skye," he manges though the word comes through gritted teeth. "I'm Cal, and I'm your father," he extends his hand.

Quake has posed:
Skye's lips twist over a wry smile. Such a trademark with the woman, little does he know - or perhaps he does. "Not sure what else I'm supposed to call you. Cal seems so clinical. Figured if I was going to try this, I gave it an honest shot."

His calling her Skye makes her chuckle. "Oh, whatever, call me Daisy. Just, don't spread it around. And it's not like that with SHIELD. They're not like that. They've done nothing but treat me like family, dad."

Well, other than hiding her away like they did. That she still has some issues with, but after that, when they'd somehow managed to find her (and Skye suspected more and more that it hadn't been chance, and Fury had known exactly who he had in Skye long before they nabbed her), after that, she'd been nothing but family. To a man, willing to go to the wall for her.

"You don't understand them. They know. My friends know I'm not human. That there's something not.. not.. something inhuman about me, and they don't care. I'm still Skye. I'm still Agent Johnson. All around pain in the ass, wise-cracking, rule breaking, smart-assed hacker turned field agent, and they trust me with their lives. I trust them."

She gives him a softer wryness of grin, and shakes her head at the extended hand. "Not really how I pictured saying hello." And with a supreme act of will, and more gratefullness than she'd likely be able to admit, Skye passes through the doorway and offers her father a hug.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Cal had replies and words, and all of that for Skye but all of that vanishes when he's offered a hug.

He bends down and hugs her, wrapping her tight in his arms.

"Daisy," he says, elated patting her back.

When he can find no other words he just holds her to him.

Quake has posed:
The hug is.. things she doesn't have words for. "Don't make me regret this," Skye whispers, then steps out of the hug, clinking to regain her composure. "I think, I think maybe those noodles now. Ramen joint?"

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"I'll try my very best," Cal promises.

Then when Skye steps back, he does too wiping at his damp eyes and looking embarassed.

"Yes, ramen would be excellent," he says clapping his hands together excitedly. "I know just the place, maybe not as good as China, but close."

He goes looking for his keys. "Over dinner we can talk about getting your gift. Since SHIELD trusts you, it shouldn't be a problem. Bet they've got them stashed away on some shelf gathering dust," he laughs at the thought shaking his head. "If they knew how many hours your mother tried to replicate them..."

Quake has posed:
"Anything's better than what I used to eat," Skye scoffs. All the cup-of-noodles she'd eaten in her life, it's highly improbably that any ramen place can be that bad.

"Wait, what do you mean, my gift?" Though Skye knows even as she asks that, exactly what gift he means. "No. No. I don't want to be like you.. my mom? Wait. I thought? It doesn't matter. I don't want to be that person."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Ah-hah," Cal says as he finds his keys only to stop and stare at Skye.

"Like me?" he asks.

"You think I want you to take any of the junk I created for myself?" he shakes his head. "No, you're destined for something so much more amazing than that, you're your mother's daughter, and I need to give you your gift."

Quake has posed:
That confused look returns to Skye's features. "Wait, *you're* the human one? I don't get it. I've seen you walk through walls. You rip people apart.. destroy things. How are you the human one?"

She's really not sure what it is she's hearing or being told here.

Then she remembers. "She was the goddess, the one who healed people? I thought that was just.. they way they spoke about her. Not - she's not a really goddess.. and I don't.. they're.. why? Why can't you just let me be me?"

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Cal grins, "As human as they come besides some super-strength, but that's all chemical, like Captain America," it Cap turned into a rage monster... "As for the walking through walls, that was technology not powers, a device a colleague of mine dreamed up. Terribly toxic if you use it too often," he drops his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "That's why I traded it to the Dragons as part of the deal to get the price taken off your head. I have to say, not the smartest people to get on the wrong side of. You have /no/ idea the lengths I went to to help you there."

"They worshiped her," he says and then shakes his head, "But, no, she wasn't a goddess, close though, she lived a very long time and could do amazing things."

The question, why couldn't Skye just be Skye, leaves Cal blinking, "Because being like your mother is just... so much cooler, besides, it's what she always wanted for you, for you to be able to claim your destiny," he smiles. "And now you can. It's so close, I can just about taste it."

Quake has posed:
There's a pained look on Skye's face. "I don't even know where to begin. Like, why were you negotiating on my behalf with the Neon Dragons. And what price on my head?" She stops herself before she says anything particularly nasty as she's reminded, again, that they, and Cal, had had Clint kidnapped. "I don't think they like me very much anymore, again."

She listens to him speak about her mother, and can only say, "You talk about it like it's for you. You're excited. You can taste it. What about me? Did you even ask if that's what I want? What if I don't want to be turned into some random.. thing?"

In truth, for all she'd said her friends accepted her, she was afraid that might be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"That business in Hong Kong," Cal says about the price. "They weren't very happy about that, so, I made a deal to help get them off of your back, or did you think they just gave up?" he says with a shake of his head. "And no, they don't like me much either now. They blame me for what happened at the docks don't think another deal is going to cut it. Going to need to deal with them."

"Why wouldn't you want your gift? It's like working on puzzle but leaving one piece missing, that's so unfair. And it's not random, it's hard to explain, but you'll become what you need to be," Cal explains. "You'll see, you'll be so much happier. It'll all be how things should be."

Quake has posed:
Skye just holds up her hands. "Can we just agree not to worry so much about this gift thing? At least until later?" She really doesn't want to admit she knows SHIELD has record of such things, and that if she went digging, she could probably find out where the darn things are stored. Clint had mentioned a transcript..

"We're dealing with the Dragons. We have one in custody. I made a deal with him to save his daughter to learn more about you. How to find you. Don't worry. SHIELD hasn't lasted this long by falling apart anytime someone wants us dead."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Ah that must be Chang Yu, he's a nice man," Cal begins, before tilting his head. "Well, for a violent criminal. What is going on with his daughter?"

He moves to the door to his office and opens it again. "And as for the rest of the Dragons, if SHIELD doesn't handle them, I /will/," he promises, the last word gritted out.

Cal takes a moment then, breathing and opening and closing his hands. "Sorry, trying to rien that in."

Another breath and he's smiling again. "And sure, we can talk about your gift later, right now I want to know everything about you!"

Quake has posed:
Skye gives Cal a shake of head. "Really? We are not swapping these kinds of stories. I've seen how you react to them." She follows him to the door. "We went over this. You arent doing that anymore, remember?"

Okay, technically she'd threatened him if he hurt anyone she cared about. She didn't care about the Dragons. She did care about her father running off and rampaging over people in general; just not specifically the Dragons as a subclass of that.

When he apologizes, the head shake returns, only with some amusement. "Fine. But I'm not changing my mind about that gift thing. It's yoru puzzle. Not mine. I like who I am. For the first time in my life, I like me, and my life. I don't want to mess that up. And you promised me noodles. Food first. Swapping stories after."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"You said not to hurt the people you care about," Cal murmurs.

He looks like he wants to say something about the gift but instead takes a long, slow, slightly impatient breath then mines zipping his mouth.

He starts leading the way downstairs. "Oh you're going to love this noodle place, it's authentic, like back in China, which let me tell you is hard to find in the middle of the Mid-West," they reach the bottom of the stairs and he heads towards the back door.

"I always have the curried noodles with shrimp. So much better than the places back in Madripoor for one thing they devein the shrimp. Of course it's not really a vein but their digestive tract," he gives a little shudder. "Disgusting that some places leave it in..."

He prattles on for a bit, before they reach the back door and he pauses, smiling fondly. "Noodles with my daughter, you have no idea how long I've been waiting for this..."

He pushes open the back door. "Best day ev-"

A dart slams hard into his neck, making him rock back a step. He shakes his head then reaches for his side, where something lays under his shirt. Two more darts land, shoulder and chest. Cal wavers on his feet.

Outside Skye can see men in tactical gear converging on the building, even at a distance she can make out the stylized eagle on their shoulder, the emblem of SHIELD.

Quake has posed:
"I know what I said," Skye says with some small exasperation. "But dad, you can't go about hurting people just because. Not even if you think you're saving me. People are terrified of you." She falls short of saying she's terrified of him, or mentioning the drastic measures she herself called for but is now struggling with.

"Authentic, huh? We found this awesome noodle joint in Gotham. Clint hated that I considered cup'o'ramen a food group. I actually learned how to make the real thing when I visited China."

She's beaming and happy as she remembers. Which is a good thing in some ways, because it's the last happy memory she's going to have with her dad for a few, given the fact that those aren't SHIELD folk, and she's seen this setup before, when they rescued Lumley.

Karl's men.

"Fuuuuck," she hisses, reaching for her ICER. "Back door. Now."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Cal's jaw tenses as he struggles to maintain control. "It's good that they're terrified," Cal says through gritted teeth. "They SHOULD be, maybe then they'll leave my family alone."

He clearly misses Skye numbers among the terrified.

Though when it's time to talk noodles Cal is all smiles. "Really? You learned, I tried pulling noodles once and I was horrible at it, I have the hands of a suegeon, but apparently not a ramen cook," he says shaking his head.

He's smiling when the darts hit him. He pushes the button on his side and something hisses.

"GO. I've got this!" he growls. Then the cannisters come bouncing into the room thrown by the men advancing on the door.

They pop open letting out blue smoke, that smells faintly of ICER rounds, where it touches skin it leaves it cold and numb.

"GO!" Cal roars beginning to contort but slowly, he hits the button again. Then something blows out his knee and he tumbles to the floor.

Quake has posed:
Okay, so.. this is where Skye's *brilliant* plan to deal with her father away from everyone and all the fuss and figure out what to do with him away from SHIELD and people she's pretty much asked to assassinate him... falls apart. And 15 hours out from SHIELD by vehicle (much less by quinjet!) and in the middle of a firefight is not the best place to be realizing what a tactical error this was. Even if everyone would have stopped her. (She can hear May saying, 'For good reason!')

She doesn't even get to tell her father about learning to make the noodles, and how discouraged and disappointed her teacher was for *hours* before she finally grokked the matter..

When Cal tells her to go, her first instinct is to stay and help him, but those cannisters are, if not lethal, a game changer in this matter. If she stays, she /won't/ be able to help.

"I'm sorry," she says, fleeing, and scrabbling her pocket for her phone. It might be to late in the scheme of things, but maybe backup is possible after all.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Cal tries to stand on his broken knee grasping for the wall when the first of the men come throught he door. The rubber bullet round fired from the shotgun drops him to the ground.

Skye can hear someone say into their comms. "Team Alpha here, we've got target one."

More feet come after her, and she can hear glass being broken elsewhere on the first floor as well.

She was very likely about to be surrounded.

Quake has posed:
Skye is pretty sure down is covered. Up? She might have a chance there. So up she goes, all the while, fingers of her left hand playing over her phone. Thank-gods for autodial, and for custom coding. All she needs is someone on the other end to pick up.

A single ICER isn't going to do her much good, at least not if she wastes the shots now, so Skye focuses on escaping, ready to shoot if she must, but not taking aim at anything other than that which is liable to grab her right now (tm), or is standing in her way such as she has to mow through them.

She'll figure out the rest of her plan if she makes it to the rooftop. Sadly, she doesn't know the building well enough to know if deking aross a floor and aiming for another stairwell, or hiding in another room would world. Unlike her flight from the Triskelion, Skye didn't get herself intimately familiar with the floorplan here.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
The phone rings as she heads for the stairs. A group of men in tac-gear spot, her the lights on their guns flashing in her eyes. A few shots are fired but none land before she's in the stairwell and heading up.

The footsteps close in. Six more floors to the roof.

"Hello?" comes Clint's voice from the phone. "Skye are you okay?"

Quake has posed:
Clint gets an earful of shots, and then Skye's muffled voice as she tucks her phone intoa pocket, all the better to aim to fire back (and switch hands if she needs to).

"Hey Hotshot. Nice you rememembered my name. Was worried I was gone too long there." Probably not the best time for a joke, but also, knowing Skye, it was /totally/ the time for a joke. "Look, I'm pinned down here in a building in Milwaulkee. My dad has an office here. Look it up. Not looking good for getting out. Karl's men. Same setup as the Lumley affair."

She's not sure what else he's getting, but when she flipped the phone to her pocket, she activated the tracker. It will help, she hopes, if he can't hear her.

She takes the stairs two by two, grateful, for once, for all the PT training she'd had.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Shit," Clint says at the sound of gunfire. "Really, now you joke?" though he doesn't sound angry. Though he swears again when she brings up Karl's men. "Fuck, we're already on our way in a quinjet, can you hold them off?" his voice sounds strained, but focused. Like he was fighting back his emotions.

There's the sound of engines speeding up behind his voice.

Skye bursts out onto the roof, the foot steps still closing behind her.

The roof is mostly flat with the odd bit of machinery here and there, there's a fire escape ladder to one side.

Quake has posed:
Skye can hear Clint, but not well. She catches 'quinjet' and 'hold them off'. Not much more. "Are you kidding me? They came prepared. Look, their MO is pretending to be field agents. Get that on the records. This is twice now.."

The door to the roof is considered. Can she jam it? She looks for purchase her ICER might fit into to jam it, or something close enough nearby that might do the job. Barring that, she's hell bent for leather for that fire escape.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
"Try damn it!" Clint shouts. Not that she wasn't but he was miles away and if he'd simply told someone she was gone...

"We're coming..."

The gun doesn't fit and nothing else is in reach but her phone, with a bit of effort it can be jammed in the door and buy some seconds.

As for the fire escape, Skye is met with a pair of men firing up at her from below.

Quake has posed:
Skye uses her phone to jam the door, tucking the top under the leading edge of the crack beneath door and roof so that when the door is pushed it will only jam the thign further under it. She doesn't expect it to hold long, but it might buy her enough time.

Her phone gone, Skye's left with shooting at the men below. All things considered, there weren't a lot of great ways out of this situation, but she was trying. If she could get down and reach Gretel..

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Skye hits one of the men before the second goes for cover. He pops back up again and fires off a few shots to keep Skye's head down, trying to keep her in place for the other teams to get her.

As for the phone, there's a boom from the door to the roof as someone runs into it, then another, then another, then the sound of breaking skittering plastic and men pour onto the roof, sweeping it for Skye.

Quake has posed:
The fire escape.. isn't looking like it's going to be the best idea. She'll be a sitting duck for anyone on the ground. Points to someone on their side for being smart. She wasn't used to that.

It did leave looking at the other sides of the buidling, and if it were possible to jump from here to there. Other than that, she was running out of ideas that weren't hold your ground and shoot anything that comes through that door until you run out of ammo.

Clint had said something about being on the way... how long was it from there to here in a quinjet anyway?

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
It's six floors down, a jump might be survivable, but it wouldn't leave her ready to run.

The who've burst through the door onto the roof swing around towards Skye, they keep close together, professional, if they were really SHIELD they might even earn a slight nod of approval from May.

Their leader calls out, "We've got you surrounded, may as well make this easy and surrender. We've got all sorts of hardware here to take you in the hardway."

Quake has posed:
So, she's not getting off the roof. AT least not right this second. But she has a target now, and Skye is utterly calm at this point. She knows what she has to do, and she plans on doing it. She's also not planning on talking to any of them - yet. Maybe after she shoots their leader. Leader down should leave a chaos gap - who fills it? who has the orders? who is feeling slighted and wants to jockey for position?

If there was on thing Skye had learned about agencies like Hydra, and groups like the Rising Tide, or people like Karl, it was that once the head was gone, everyone stepped up to jockey for that empty spot. Skye had learned on enough SHIELD missions that that didn't happen. One person took lead, and if they went down and someone stepped up, the next five minutes weren't spent quibbling on who got to be boss.

Skye aims for talking man with her ICER and delivers two pulses, just to be certain.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
The two shots hit the leader dropping him.

There's a pause but the men are closing in already like a hound on the scent.

"Do we shoot?"

"He wants her alive."

"We've got rubber bullets."

"For fuck sake, just shoot her."

The team opens fire.

Quake has posed:
Skye shoots at one of them. Then another. Not waiting to see if the shots hit, but hoping they do. The fireescape might not be the best choice, in fact, it might not be a good choice at all, but it's now become the most legitimate option. And, she thinks, if she does one of those fancy moves she's seen in movies with her hands and feet on the outside of the ladder, and sliding on down, maybe she'll be too fast a moving target to be shot.

And.. if she's shot, she's not gonna care too much about whether or not that works, or she hits the ground hard.

That's her new plan.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
The first shot hits her target dropping them, The second duck and the others open fire, the rubber bullets aren't leathal but they hit hard with enough brusiing force to take someone off their feet, leaving lims sore and useless. And the tac team does hit thankfully before Skye reaches the ladder, as it would be a long fall otheriwse.

"Close in."

"Get her."

Still leaderless the men move in to surround her.

Quake has posed:
It was a good run. She knew that. Skye wasn't happy about being hit, but if she had to be hit, now instead of halfway down the ladder was probably the better of the two options.

Her ICER drops to the rooftoop, even as she stumbles and hits the gravel and tar roof herself, finding it impossible to use her arms well enough to push up and at least not be picked up like a sack of potatoes out of the deal.

Alas, Karl, and likely Hydra, have no care for her dignity. She's down, but not out, for the count.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
They close in, a couple of them chuckle as she tries to get up. One lays into her with a boot.

He gets a look from one of the other.

"They said alive, not comfy."

"Asshole," another of them says. He pulls something that looks like an epipen from a pouch on his uniform and kneels beside Skye. "Night, night," he says jabbing her with the pen. "Oh and Karl says hi by the way."

Whatever is in the pen works fast and darkness begins to pull at the edge of Skye's vision.
