Alpha Flight: Consulting Thor About a Dark Elf
Date of Scene: 11 February 2019
Location: New York City
Synopsis: Carol met with Thor to discuss Alpha Flight's Dark Elf prisoner. The conversation does not go well, and the meeting ends with rising tension between the two.
Cast of Characters: Thor, Captain Marvel (Danvers)

Thor has posed:
Night falls heavily on a tumultuous day, at the least for the being known as Thor of Asgard. Snow falls slowly as the storm that had nipped at the Thunderer's heels followed him back to the city of Manhattan, casting once again all of the prognostications of the weather men and women of the city into chaos. Yet, for once, Thor is unmindful of such repercussions for his thoughts are elsewhere.
In the back of the Avengers mansion he descents in a slower manner than the norm, boots alighting upon the ground with a faint thump as Mjolnir is held to the side, then settled against his hip. He turns his head to the side, lifting his one-eyed gaze upwards and frowns for an instant...
Then he shaks his head and begins to move towards the rear entrance of the mansion, towards that deck and the rear sliding doors.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol has had quite an interesting day, one of the first spikes in activity for Alpha Flight since the entire fungi invasion ordeal. She even got to interrogate a Dark Elf herself. Svartalfar weren't exactly regular visitors to Earth, and that was a very good thing from how she understood the way of things. Strangely, her interrogation and supporting evidence has made thing point towards a very likely release and refugee status attaining by someone who could well be very dangerous.

Luckily, Carol happens to know one Thor Odinson, who other than being an amazing teammate and great drinking buddy, also happens to be a sage of all things ridiculously Nordic in their very Mythological but somehow Real AF status.

She asked Thor to see her at his earliest convenience, but Carol is a cheat, she's got a Kree Seventh Sense, so as soon as he approaches the Mansion, Carol is already waiting in the backyard. "Thor!" She calls out to him, "I trust you've seen my message?"

Thor has posed:
Straightening up and turning his gaze towards Carol, Thor's one eye widens a bit but then he gives a nod. "Friend Carol," But he nods incorrectly for he shifts instead to a shake of his head, "Nay, I have not seen your message. I fear I have been..." He lifts Mjolnir to the side, the hammer making a low /whom/ sound, but then he slips it back onto his belt. "Elsewhere."
Of course if he checked his communicator...
Then refocusing he looks to her, "Is this in regards to the svartalfar?" He advances on her and stops some small distance away, then gestures inside should she wish to adjourn within.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol is about to start the discussion, that is until Thor pretty much informs her that he hadn't even seen her message. "Oh," she grumbles, looking quite annoyed, "for once it's a rather urgent matter." But he gives reason too, and Carol is intrigued, "does Elsewhere suggests an imminent invasion of foul forces upon Midgard?" Carol almost suspect that must be it, but who knows, maybe they're lucky and for once it was just stupid Asgardian politics he had to go deal with.

"That it is. Arella Despana she calls herself, quite the character." As Thor motions inside, Carol holds up her hand for him to wait, "take a moment, listen to my message, I made sure to make it an audio one so you won't have to read...remember, the communicator? I can show you how to use it if you've forgotten." Should he listen to it in full, he may see why she held him from stepping inside.

Thor has posed:
"Nay," He answers her about the imminent invasion, though he still looks distanced or lost partially in thought. He listens to her as she speaks, nodding at the right moments. Then he looks towards Carol and says in answer for his whereabouts. "I have been pondering the matter of which you speak. Arella Despana. I was there at her apprehension and since that time has passed... I have been pondering striking her down, even though I have no legal right to do so."
That might cause some measure of discomfort. But he holds up a hand as if to stay Carol's reaction as he then withdraws the communicator. He holds it, takes a moment to consider, then touches its display with a fingertip.
It comes to life and says in what might be Jarvis' voice, "Please do be so kind as to take a moment to set your preferences." But he swipes past it to get to Carol's message...
    And he lets that play.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"The Dark Elf...I can see why it would be of concern to you even before I turned to you," Carol speaks patiently, understanding just as she claims. But then she hears what he's been mulling over, and Carol's visage darkens. "Is that so...?" A frown on her face, and Carol adds, "I urge you further, in that case, listen to my message."

As the message plays (+bbread avg3/43), Carol softens her expression just a bit, "so what say you? Better to talk over drinks at New Asgard? You promised to introduce me to your kind of alcohol, after all, haven't you? You've yet to act on it."

Thor has posed:
The message plays, and Thor listens to it as it explains much of what he knows. He then puts the comm away without even bothering to turn it off or close the window, the heathen. Then he looks across the way towards Carol, still hovering on the deck of the manor just before the doors.
He turns back to face her and says, "This would be an ill time for you to see New Asgard, Carol. My mood is dark and I would not have that colour your impression of a place I love. This matter with the Svartalfar, you are aware these people have destroyed my home, my family. They are a people of... such a past that it is difficult to look beyond it."
Thor tilts his head towards her, then looks away. "Yet even divorcing this Arella Despana from the crimes of her people. And holding to her as accountable for only her own actions... my advice would be the same."
He steps towards and rests a hand on Carol's shoulder, his good eye looking back and forth between her beautiful blue eyes. His tone is gentle, yet imploring, as he conveys to her with a firmness of belief. "Either send her away from your people, or take her life. For she is a creature that has... that is responsible for the loss of _billions_ of lives. I fear for you and yours every moment she is in your custody. I respect you. I respect the laws of this world I now call home. But even now I... I feel I should strike her down."

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol walks up till she's face to face with Thor, okay, so even Carol isn't tall enough to be face to face with Thor. So she just moves closer and has to look up at him, but she does reach up to place a hand on his shoulder. A warm touch, one carrying camraderie. She remembers all of the battles they shared as members of the Avengers, and she knows his worth. She listens to what he has to say, even if her expression prior showed what she feels about his idea to strike down the Dark Elf without words.

"Thor. If you would not take me to New Asgard, then at least, let's share a Sam Adams or two, I have some in the fridge, this is not a talk to be done without drink," her tone is a bit insistant, suggesting she would not take no to even that minimal effort to share a drink. He doesn't want to take her to New Asgard? Fine, let him enjoy Boston's finest. Well, actually, that would be Harpoon, but she doesn't have any. So Sam Adams it is.

If Carol was listening, she shows all indication she will only have the conversation once drinks are involved, as she merely turns to walk inside, "come, Thor, we must drink over this...it's too grave a matter to judge sober." That had to have been a Carol joke, right?

Thor has posed:
Surrendering to the sentiment, Thor lets his head lower as he says simply, "Aye." And with that he follows after her into the mansion proper and away from the outside and the ominous sky that has followed him. Through the double doors and into the kitchen area proper.
Mjolnir makes a faint /whum/ sound as it's set on the counter and the armor around him flickers with a gleaming golden light that washes over it and replaces Thor's gear of war with that of his usual fare; the work boots, the loose jeans, the grey hoodie.
    Janet would be displeased.
But that is far from his mind for now as he takes a seat nearby and then awaits what she wishes to offer him.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Having no clue about the entire exchange with Janet, Carol doesn't know she should warn Thor, perhaps he will learn the epic wrath of mighty Wasp soon enough. For now, Carol is reaching for the fridge and one large can goes to Thor, before she takes the other.

Still no words, as Carol moves to sit at the kitchen table, pops her can open and chugs some of it, before putting it down. Her blue eyes level with Thor's, those eyes and the golden hair, one might think she would fit quite nicely with those Norse warriors of old.

"Thor. I have taken to interrogate Arella myself, precisely because I know your people's history with hers. Remember, I was operating Alpha Flight to pressure the U.N. to grant you leave to rebuild in Norway, I am part of the effort that gave you New Asgard. I am not ever against you, my friend, please understand that much." Quite a start, which by right, one would expect means the follow up is less amicable.

"In my capacity as Director of Alpha Flight, I am beholden to rules of conduct. As set by the Government of Canada. As set by the United Nations assignment to see to Earth's protection, and invariably, by the Government of the United States." Having stated all precursors, she proceeds, "the woman crashed on Canadian soil, study of her vessel confirmed her story, she was left to die...her crashing on Earth is pure happenstance. Nothing suggests otherwise. She was ordered to be executed by Malekith himself, the son of a bitch who destroyed your home. The man I would not think twice about killing, if only to have your revenge..." she takes another swig of the beer, working this delicate conversation and doing her best to rule her own emotions throughout. "But she is not him. She was hated by him. I know not why, not yet, but I do know she is to be hunted by Svartalfheim, she is an outcast, an undesireable...and by terms yielded by the investigation thus far, I am to grant her refugee status."

She looks intensely at Thor, as if to suggest she wants to finish her say before he answers her, and she adds, "I will put terms against her. Make sure we know where she is at all times. And I will threaten her on pain of death, by your hand no less. If she betrays the Earth, if she dangers anyone, if she kills a soul...she will be handed over to Asgard, to be judged for her crimes against your people. But only if she proves false...what say you?"

Thor has posed:
The can is left untouched for the most part as Thor tilts his head to the side while listening to this. But he looks back and gives her a nod as she finishes advancing her stance on the matter. "Carol," The Asgardian meets her gaze, "I feel it is a mistake. But I will not gainsay you, nor take action beyond my own authority."
He straightens up in the bar stool that's seated at the island in the kitchen, his large hands upon the counter as he frowns. "Whatever circumstance has brought her here, and even if she had quarreled with Malekith... you cannot trust her. The Svartalfar are a people who operate on deep levels and even if to her this is no plot, it may be one of another's making."
He lifts his fingertips a touch and then adds, "Yet I understand as well that you must operate in a way you feels fits you and your people best. And trust, Carol. I do hope I am mistaken."

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"I've sought your take because I value you what you have to say, Thor, and I acknowledge that at least in this matter you are far wiser than I can be," Carol winks playfully at Thor, suggesting without so much as stating, that in other situation she may well be the smarter of the two. Cheeky!

"I wanted to hear your outlook, the threat you think she poses, and have that taken to account as I make my judgement." Carol empties her beer and flattens the empty can in her hand.

"If I had to answer to no laws, as a friend, I would have let you do with her as you please...but I am beholden to my role, with Alpha Flight, and as such I must see no harm comes to her while she is in good standing with Earth itself. I cannot judge her based on crimes that took place on realms the Earth isn't aware of...you know the troubles it would land me in? I may lose my post, I may be discredited...worst case, I may be taken to an asylum, as if I was crazy...despite all proof given over time that the Earth is not the greatest most advance place in the cosmos..." she then extends a hand to shake with Thor, "I will stop you if you try something, while she has given no reason to crush her...but once she does, will you allow me to be by your side when you go after her life? I just want you to understand this is not a choice made to lose your friendship, it is much like your duty as a King, I'm sure you've had to endure decisions you did not like to make. Is that not so?"

Thor has posed:
Shaking his head, it's clear that all of this in one way or another sort of just washes off of Thor's outlook on the matter, not changing it, but also not drawing a negative reaction. Instead he looks to her and says, "Carol. All I can say is be wary. If you must hold her, then examine her thoroughly to an extent beyond what you would for any other prisoner. She could hide pathogens or genetic weapons anywhere on or within her person."
He takes a deep breath, "And if you must grant her some measure of liberty, insure she is never alone." Then his brow furrows severely as he murmurs, "And when you must inevitably slay her, stay away from her, do not inhale the miasma around her, do not even touch what ashes may be left behind."
That said he pushes himself to his feet and starts to walk away, leaving the beer behind him. Unopened.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol hears Thor's reply, but more than that, she is fully aware of his body language. He doesn't just disapproves. He disapproves in a major royal fashion. He didn't say much, he didn't protest much, but his reaction hurts. Hurts rather deep. But she doesn't stop him, she doesn't make demands, she doesn't try to convince him. She just reaches for the beer he left behind. "Your counsel is heard, and considered in full, King Thor." Whereas before she was warm and friendly the manner of his departure, tone, and the fact he wouldn't even touch the drink she served him, made her part on a much colder tone.

After Thor leaves she chugs down the second beer in one go, before throwing the can against the wall with a force that makes it shatter.
