Profile
Mariam was once a henchwoman for the Mob and a variety of criminals in Gotham City. When the villain she worked for crossed the line, she turned on him and helped in his capture. She went to prison for her part in the crimes. Released on probation, she was hired by Wayne Enterprises and has spent the last three years proving her loyalty to the company and turning over a new leaf.

Mariam stands at 5'6" in her bare feet. Her body is slim although it is mostly hidden in the suit she wears. Her hair is a natural red and is usually worn up in a bun at the nape of her neck or a ponytail, kept back slick and tight so it doesn't interfere. She doesn't wear makeup, her own natural beauty all she relies on. Her eyes are always hidden from view behind a pair of reflective, round sunglasses, making it impossible to tell their color.
She prefers to always wear a suit in charcoal gray or black. The skirt is pleated in an A-line style falling to just above her knees. The jacket is tailored to fit her perfectly, worn over a crisp white blouse buttoned all the way up. A pink tie complements the suit. A pair of simple matching pumps with a two inch heel cover her feet.

History

Mariam O'Shea was born in Gotham City to her loving parents, Sean and Aileen. She was an only child. Her father was a banker earning enough that the family was well off. This allowed them to spoil Mariam. She attended gymnastics training starting at the age of three. By the age of six, it was martial arts. While she was very focused on her athletics, she was also intelligent. She excelled at her studes in school and graduated high school at the age of sixteen.
From there, she went to college in Metropolis, her mother coming with her due to her age. Her father stayed back in Gotham City although they visited almost every weekend. By the age of nineteen, she'd majored in Legal Studies and minored in Psychology. Her mother moved back to Gotham City and she was on her own. She began pre-law, determined to become a laywer.
"The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." Such was the case for Mariam. On a trip home to Gotham to visit, the mob came calling to their home. Her father had run up some major debt due to his gambling problem. They were coming to collect and there was not enough to pay up. The mobsters were going to take it out of his hide. Mariam protected her parents by taking down the mob thugs. But she knew that wouldn't fix things. They would keep coming and in the end, her parents might end up dead. So, Mariam had them take back a message to their bosses that she wanted to meet.
They actually agreed. When she met with them, Mariam struck a deal with the devil. She would work for them in exchange for them forgiving the debt her father owed. They had already seen her skills against some of their heavy hitters. The deal was struck with one caveat-she would not kill anyone. This was her first step on the criminal path. For a year, she worked for the Mafia as an Enforcer. She was the one sent out to collect money or rough up those not taking care of their debts. She was very good at her job and she believed in loyalty thanks to the teachings of her family.
Once her debt was worked off, the Mafia stuck to their agreement and let her go although she was welcome to remain with them. At times, she did continue to do jobs for them. She also became a henchwoman for hire, picked up for jobs by various villains. It was during one of those jobs, while working for Marion Louise "Mary" Dahl AKA Baby Doll, that she met the Batman. While she was defeated in the fight, she managed to take down both Batman and Robin initially with ease. She escaped, continuing her life as henchwoman. Later, she ended up on a job with Firebug. He had lied to his team, intending to blow up a bus load of children that they had kidnapped after he had told her the explosives were fake. When confronted by Batman, they fought but he called her attention to the betrayal. She did the unforgiveable. She turned on her boss and told Batman where to find him. She also helped Batman take him down. In the end, she let Batman cuff her and turn her over to the police.
Her assistance was weighed in her sentencing. She went to prison for her crimes. After two years, she was given parole in part due to her assistance and being a perfect prisoner. Upon getting out, she was given a special grant through Wayne Enterprises, being brought in the ground level as an employee. She was focused, determined and excelled. She began working her way up and was given a position in security after a time. It was during her stint in that area that she was given an opportunity to turn on her employer. The chance was there, and the money would be theirs. Instead, she reported the person who had tried to get her to help. It turned out it was a test of loyalty. She was moved into a special training area for advanced security. Now that her physical training was being used, she moved up the ranks through the course of the next two years.
At this point, she has been with Wayne Enterprises for three years. She has been promoted to Personal Security for the executives who make up the board. Her loyalty is unswerving, and she is willing to die to protect her client as she has proven when she was stabbed by an attacker after the executive she was protecting. She is now considered the best of their security people, loyal to a fault and taking no guff when it comes to the safety of her people.

There are a lot of parts to Mariam but two of the main ones are loyalty and protectiveness. She is loyal to a fault. She believes that upon taking a job, she must see it through to the end. This is even when that job may not be as one of the good guys, or so it was in her past. Now that she is working for Wayne Enterprises, she has found her niche and she is truly happy being able to serve in a role that uses her skills to their fullest.
She is very protective of those she is close to or those she is put in charge of. This applies to her family and her work since she will do anything necessary to protect them. This extends to protecting those who cannot protect themselves, particularly children.
She is confident in her skills and her mind. She knows her abilities. She can sometimes come across as little smug because of it. She is also a control freak, particularly when it comes to her work. She can be hard-headed and stubborn when it comes to security and that is what makes her so good at her job.
Mariam also isn't one to be sharing a lot of herself. She is guarded and introverted. She has had to be strong for so long that it became second nature. She internalizes. She isn't outgoing and friendly, instead giving off an aura of 'keep your distance'.

Mariam knows how to assess and setup security. When she comes into a room, she will always note what is going on around her, exits, etc. When she is bringing a client to a location, she will sometimes set up extra security measures to help protect them. On the other side of the coin, she was once a criminal and she knows how to breach security measures. Perhaps that is what gives her an edge as one of the good guys. She knows how to get through locks, alarm systems, and use computer technology to break though more high tech systems.
WEAPONS
Mariam has trained in variety of weapons. Through her martial arts, she has been introduced to those associated with Japan specifically. She can handle a sword, a staff, shuriken and so forth. She's very good with them but certainly not the best. In her position as a bodyguard, she has been trained with batons and firearms.
ATHLETICS
Mariam has been physically active her entire life. She is very intent on always being in shape and uses a combination of physical training and diet to keep her in fighting form. Her choice of attire generally hides her physicality from view but beneath the suit, she's all strength. She is at the peak of human levels in strength, agility, speed and so forth, for a woman of her size.
CRIMINALITY
Early in her life, Mariam was put onto the path of being a criminal. This has given her an understanding of the criminal underworld. She can navigate it easily, obtain information and keep an ear on the goings-on. She has many minor criminal skills from pickpocketing to lockpicking. She worked for the Mafia for a time and understands their methods and hierarchy from being on the inside.
DEFENSIVE DRIVING
As a bodyguard, Mariam has been trained in defensive driving. This would exceed that which a police officer receives. She can perform stunts and tricks with a vehicle when needed to allow for her and her client to leave a situation. That is what the training focused on was removing them from the situation or threat.
DEGREES
Mariam majored in Legal Studies and minored in Psychology at school. She had begun to attend Pre-Law before life took a wrong turn on her. She has a college level understanding of both, allowing her to apply them in her life. She has not returned to school to continue her pursuit of a law career due to her criminal record.
GYMNASTICS
From the age of three, Mariam was trained in gymnastics at various schools throughout Gotham City. If it was the best, that is where they sent her. She is on par with an Olympic gymnast in her skill set although she chose not to pursue that path in life.
INTELLIGENCE
Mariam is extremely intelligent. She graduated from high school at the age of sixteen and had her degrees before she as nineteen. She was already starting pre-law at the age of twenty. Her mind is keen, and she has a knack for remembering information. She is good a research and following trails of information to a logical conclusion.
MARTIAL ARTS
Mariam studied Japanese martial arts, specifically Sotokan Karate and Jiu Jitsu, gaining the highest level in each of those specific areas. She started training when she was a child. Later in college, she gained the attention of a teacher named Richard Dragon. With him as her sensei, she learned more skills in other arts although nothing was to the level as her main two areas. He helped her to hone the skills she already had, teaching her to focus better, to get the most out of her movements and her physical training. He taught her to work through the pain, to trust her muscle memory and so much more.
