Description:

Standing at 178cm, Night Girl is a tall and statuesque beauty. Her jet black hair is built up into her signature high bouffant 'beehive' hairdo, adding a few extra centimetres to her already impressive height. This hairstyle has become somewhat of a trademark for Night Girl, making her instantly recognizable to her fans.

Her costume is a dark black full-body suit with a stylized owl's face emblazoned on the chest. The owl is a symbol of wisdom and intelligence, traits that Night Girl embodies in her fight against crime. A black half-cape rounds out the outfit, secured by a five-pointed gold star. A belt made of gold links adorns her waist.

Aside from her costume, Night Girl also has a love for accessories. She is often seen wearing dangly earrings, bangles, etc. adding a touch of femininity to her overall look.

History

History:

Lydda, also known as Night Girl, was the daughter of a renowned scientist on the planet Kathoon. Because of her father's desire for a son, he taught her to be self-reliant and successful. As she grew older, he used a vitalizing ray to give her limited superpowers, specifically super-strength. This was partially due to her admiration for the nascent Legion of Super-Heroes, particularly Cosmic Boy, their charismatic leader. Lydda begged her father to help her gain powers that would qualify her for Legion membership.

Her powers only worked in darkness or artificial light, however, and she returned to normal in sunlight (or, more precisely, light strong in UV). Unaware of this limitation, she applied for Legion membership but was rejected when her powers failed publicly. Determined not to let her efforts go to waste, she joined forces with four other rejected applicants to form a secret group, the 'Legion of Substitute Heroes', who would assist the Legion behind the scenes or when they were unavailable. Eventually, the LSH discovered their activities and made the Subs a special branch of the Legion Reserve.

Night Girl enjoyed some measure of notoriety, as arguably the most powerful Substitute Legionnaire, especially in view of her intense study of various martial arts from around the United Planets to make up for the times when her powers failed her. In the face of victories and defeats both she persevered, tirelessly fighting the good fight.

Eventually her perseverence paid off and she was made a fully-fledged member of the Legion itself, finding a role as teacher of the Legion prospects, inculcating in them her own views of using teamwork to become undefeatable.

Currently, Lydda finds herself in the 21st century for reasons she cannot remember. She remembers a desperate mission to the past, but not why. She remembers the Legion and her fellow Legionnaires, but not how they came to be stranded in the past. But above all she remembers that, regardless of time or space, she exists to fight evildoers and bring justice to the universe.

Some things never change.

Personality

Personality:

Lydda is a fearless and passionate woman, unafraid to take risks based solely on faith. She exudes strength and confidence, and though she may encounter setbacks, she firmly believes they are only temporary. In fact, she once declared that anyone who joins the Legion of Substitute Heroes must possess a hopeful and optimistic outlook. Despite moments of self-doubt, especially after being rejected by the LSH in the past, Lydda has overcome those feelings of inadequacy. She is no longer the timid girl who silently pined for unrequited love and complained about the limitations of her abilities. Instead, she has developed a direct and straightforward approach, a quality she lacked in her youth. She can sometimes become impatient with Cosmic Boy's analytical and brooding nature, preferring to take action. (She also wishes he would embrace a more romantic mindset like hers.)

Abilities

Enhanced Physiology:
The vitalizing ray her father used on her in her bid to make her suited to the Legion has resulted in these powers:

Super Strength

Lydda is inhumanly strong when her power is active, equivalent in strength to that of Mon-El or Superboy.

Super Stamina

For all practical purposes, Lydda is untiring. She can exert herself to her limits and keep them there for an indeterminate amount of time. She has never been seen to tire out while her power is active.

Invulnerability

When active, Lydda is invulnerable to harm by extreme forces. If propelled at speed (either by her flight ring, or by a super toss or equivalent) she can even use her dense, invulnerable body as a humanoid missile.

Tunnelling

One of the most common expressions of her superior strength outside of combat is her almost stunning ability to tunnel through soil, rock, and even harder substances at amazing speeds. She has dug through entire planetoids to invade bases from beneath.

Kathoonian Physiology:

Though descended from Terrans, the nature of life on Kathoon has brought about subtle changes in physiology. The main expression of this is that Kathoonians can see very well in the dark.

Skills

Combat Training:
Lydda, to make up for when her power fails her, has tirelessly studied as many martial arts from the United Planets as she could, making her an unexpectedly effective combatant even in the light and a nearly unstoppable one when her power is active.

Pedagogy:

Lydda is a gifted teacher and, indeed, even teaches combat training at the Legion Academy.

Resources

Legion Flight Ring:
As a member in good standing in several subdivisions of the Legion over time, Lydda naturally has a Legion of Superheroes flight ring, a device that allows her to fly at multi-mach speeds using only her thoughts. It also functions as a communicator, letting her communicate via code with anybody else wearing a flight ring even at distances of multiple light years, all without lag.

Legion of Superheroes:
As a founding member of the Legion of Substitute Heroes, a member in good standing of the Legion Reserves, finally a full-fledged member of the Legion proper, as well as a teacher at the Legion Academy, Lydda is very well-connected with the entire Legion ecosystem from the rejected misfits to the leadership. She can call upon any of them for help when necessary, and, of course, they can call on her at need, in any time or place (including, obviously, the 21st century).

Legion Telepathy Earplug:
This plug, issued to all Legion members and Legion Academy members, as well as some reserves, is a communication device that creates a telepathic transmission field permitting its wielder to share thoughts with anybody else wearing such a plug, or naturally telepathic. It also permits bridging communications to more conventional communicators like radio. The plugs also have a universal translator built in.

Legion Transuit:

These custom-built suits protect the wearer from harsh environments while permitting their power usage. They may be activated mentally, or automatically (after a short delay) when the suit detects dangerous environments. The suits do not protect against the sudden shock and trauma of attacks, only environmental threats.

Weaknesses

Ultraviolet:

All of Lydda's Enhanced Physiology powers granted by her father's vitalizing ray (strength, stamina, invulnerability, tunnelling) disappear in concentrations of ultraviolet light equivalent to daylight even on an overcast day. Ordinary artificial light will not sap her abilities unless carefully built to match the UV spectrum of daylight.
