Melinda May It's been a couple of days since Agent May went to speak with a Ms. Ainsley Garcia. She really means to ask what 'Ainsley' is an Americanized form of, because it's certainly not a typical Mexican name. But, it can wait.

Those couple of days have seen Ms. Garcia being given simple but comfortable enough quarters with the climate controls allowing her to set the air as warm as she likes as well as her choice of food and beverage within reason. (Sorry, no intact kangaroo carcasses available.) A little while ago, a junior agent came by and informed Sibil that she would be escorted to the lobby, though there was no explanation as to why. And the same junior agent returning and leading her out to the huge open space that is the Triskelion lobby again doesn't offer any kind of explanation.
Sibilance The junior agent would've stepped into a veritable sauna of a room compared to the rest of the building, a warm ninety or so degrees. Ainsley walked out of her room wearing some manner of SHIELD trainee uniform, which just amounted to a black suit with trainee markings on it, fitted so that her tail could stick out just fine. She had a psionic dampener on her head so that she wouldn't read anyone's mind or anything more severe than that, which felt like having her ears plugged at all times. It was eerie how quiet a room could be without the distant buzz of living minds.

The snake woman is brought to the middle of the lobby, the anthropomorphic diamondback fiddling with the trainee ID tag that hangs off of the breast pocket of her suit to try to get it to fit just right. She had it fine earlier, so the snake woman is just nervously busying her hands. She doesn't want to look up at anyone as her appearance draws a lot of attention that she doesn't want to be reminded of.
Darcy Lewis Meet, greet, tour. Don't frighten the noob, and WAIT for May.

That's what May had told Darcy. What Darcy heard was: Meet, greet, tour... noob... May... Because she had been texting while on the phone with her SO.

And so, at the appointed time, Darcy made her way to the Looby, looking up the newbie on her tablet. WHOA! Snake-chick. She's got to be superchill.. because reptile.. cold blooded.. GOD Darcy spent way too much time with Princess Science. Tucking her tablet under an arm, Darcy moved up to Sibil without hestitation and held a hand out.

"Hi. I'm Darcy Lewis. Welcome to SHIELD." May would be happy. She could have said: 'welcome to the fun house'.
Natasha Romanoff The front door opens and allows a rather diminutive figure to enter. Natasha is wearing a black jacket made of leather, black tailored slacks, a white blouse and a pair of boots with no heel. Despite her 5'3" height, she walks like ths owns the place, having complete confidence in herself and her abilities. For the most observant, they might notice she is barely favoring her left leg when walking.

She had seen that there was a meet-and-greet for the newest arrival but that wasn't really the reason she came. She knew Agent May would be present and they needed to have a few words. She approaches Darcy and Sibilance, giving a nod to both even as she glances around for her target.
Melinda May So May is a target now. She'll be so //honored// when she realizes. Sarcasm set to kill. Lewis appears to be on her best behavior, that's a novel change. Still unaware of Nat's arrival, May approaches from further into the building, her eyes taking in the three standing around waiting as she gets within eyeshot of them. She's carrying a thermos in one hand and in the other -- perhaps a bit oddly -- an empty, wide-mouthed margarita glass. Stopping in front of the three women, May's eyes linger on Natasha for just a tiny moment longer than the others, her eyes flicking toward the redhead's left leg. Otherwise, no comment.

"Ms. Garcia. This is your official welcome to the ranks of SHIELD. You'll be training here in the New York HQ, and you'll answer directly to Agents Hill, Romanova, Coulson, or me when not actively training. For now, though, let's show you around the facility." She offers the margarita glass and thermos to the snake woman.
Sibilance Sibilance startles when the hand comes out, having been distracting herself so thoroughly and having been really offput by the dampener she's mandated to wear that it was like it came out of the dark at her. She reaches out to accept the hand and smiles, insomuch as a snake person can smile, at Darcy. "Gracias. Ainsley Garcia." It is not a pleasant handshake. Her hand is clammy just to put it mildly, smooth like a reptile, and seems to be full of muscle. Probably not nearly as tough as an Asgardian, though. At least she has a sweet smile...?

Natasha's presence gets a wary glance. Her silence in particular is notable. The snake woman is too timid to question it.

She accepts the thermos, and the glass, and pops open the thermos to pour into the glass. She sticks her whole snake-like snout into the glass full of water and her cheeks puff up as she sucks up the contents. She lids her eyes joyously and her looong forked tongue flickers out just the once.

"Thank you, May. Understood." And then she makes an urging gesture with the hand holding the glass.

A passing agent gives her a funny look, for some reason, and she defensively says, "It's just water," immediately realizing the implication of the glass. Aaand now she's awkwardly staring at feet again. Such a shy creature.
Darcy Lewis Darcy feels so tall today! Five inch heels, baby! God, Darcy loves these shoes... when she's not on field ops. Her smile is mischeivous as Natasha walks up. The texture of the hand shake is noted, but not commented on.

"Hi, Nat. Hiya, May. What's shaking?" Because it's National Annoy May Day? Maybe. Greene yes note the thermos and the margarita glass and Darcy's grin broadens.

"Oooh, Boss. It's a bit early for Patron!" Darcy coos excitedly. Because tequila is fun!
Natasha Romanoff The glass and thermos get an arched brow from Natasha but not a word. Her eyes are on May. She doesn't cross her arms but her fellow senior agent is well versed in reading body language. Just the faint curling of her fingers on the right hand into an almost fist. A narrowing of the eyes at the woman. Silently, she is berating May for their last assignment in which the woman pulled rank and sidelined Natasha. Well not rank so much as just put her foot down and the pair almost came to blows. All because Natasha does not like being on 'light duty'.

She does look to Sibilance, giving the woman an easy smile and offering her own hand. "Natasha Romanova," she says by way of introduction. "A pleasure to meet you and welcome."
Melinda May May simply raises an eyebrow at Darcy's casual greeting, though when her eyes land on Natasha again her expression hardens ever so slightly. If there are to be MORE words about this, it will be done somewhere other than the middle of the lobby in front of a recruit so new she still squeaks. And almost as if to make a silent point, she shifts her weight over onto her left leg. And she usually stands with her center of balance over both legs. This is so blatant even Darcy might notice.

"We'll start with the administrative area, get your badge and training schedule." May echoes the gesture made with the margarita glass then pivots on her left foot to lead the way. "You've already completed all of the intake paperwork, I presume?"
Sibilance Sibilance is blissfully unaware of the subtle exchange between Natasha and May, even as she lifts her gaze to give a pleasant nod to Romanova. "Nice to meet you," she says, deliberately sounding out the words to fight the urge to slur it with her accent. She turns to begin following May, though she does, for a moment, notice the odd posture. She doesn't know May well enough to really recognize it, though, so she resigns herself to sipping lime water as she walks.

"It's water," she repeats to Darcy, the awkwardness palpable in her voice and gait and in how it tenses her shoulders a little. "I did all the paperwork up as soon as they gave it to me," she tells May, "Now anyone with clearance can learn how many scales I have, exactly." She's joking, of course, because she isn't a HUGE fan of bureaucracy and they gave her a stack to deal with thanks to her circumstances.

She gets a little less skittish as they go on, since the confidence in the other three women is infectious. Though the simmering discontent in the air has gone right over her head.
Darcy Lewis Darcy is not so unware. Especially not when May makes it OBVIOUS like that. Green eyes blink twice before she turns her attention back to Sibil.

"It is? Well, I guess since we're at work.. But if you wanna go for drinks later, I'd be down. Girl's night. Whadya say? You, me, Croft, ninja twins back there..." she says as she thumbs over her shoulder at May and Natasha as she turns to lead the group to the badge area. This is something Darcy knows well, the number of times she's processes visitors into HQ. So, she'll take point on this. Even flirting with the Agent in charge of doing the badge thingie. Guy, girl, unimportant. Darcy flirts.
Natasha Romanoff Falling into step with the others, Natasha would never interrupt such important goings on with ill words to her fellow agent. That's for behind closed doors. They've both made their positions known, in complete silence. She tucks her hands into the pockets of her jacket, watching the interplay between Darcy and the agent at the desk. Her expression remains carefully neutral.
Melinda May May lets the silent 'discussion' with Natasha drop here as she lets Darcy do the sweet talking to get Sibil's badge. There will be time later to hash it out behind closed doors. Once the badge exchange is done, she then leads the way around to the one of the main wings of the building: R&D.

"We don't have a very big botany department, but when time permits you're welcome to stop in." The other disciplines in R&D are indicated, but only very vaguely. No point in making the kid's head explode too soon.
Sibilance "If you're okay with me drinking water," Sibilance tells Darcy, lifting the thermos in demonstration. She pours another glass for herself as she waits for the badge to get brought back to her, and when she gets it she gives it an idle inspection. The thermos and glass are held in one arm while she does this.

The R&D department is /fascinating/ for Sibil, apparently. All the names of the little sections gives her a bright look to her eyes, but the botany section has her trying to peek into there to get a good look at what's going on. "Oooh..." And there she is, rattling off plant names as she spots them, because she knows some of the rare ones kept in the jars in the back.

She seems really passionate about it.
Darcy Lewis "Drink whatever you like. We can find someone's apartment to watch old movies and MST3K the shit out of them," Darcy quips as she hands over the badge that she might have flashed some cleavage for. #Unapologetic

Her portion of Operation Herding Herpes done, Darcy falls into step with the rest and other than knowing there are scientists, she has NO IDEA what's happening here in the R&D department.
Melinda May May is content enough to let Sibil linger at the Botany entrance a little longer, having already heard about the young woman's interest in plants. But, they have to move on. As they leave R&D and cross toward the Operations and Medical wing, May stops them for only a moment by a set of glass security doors. "Main Operations is through here. I'd recommend against trying to get past this door unescorted. If you're needed in this area, someone with the proper clearance will bring you though." Like her. Or Coulson.

They move on to Medical, which May explains will likely become familiar to Garcia. It's one of the most trafficked parts of the building for field agents.
Sibilance Darcy's idea of a good time just draws some confusion from the otherwise sheltered snake woman. Sibilance says, "Okay," and just emits awkwardness at critical levels for not understanding what MST3K means at all. She does smile because it seems like something to be excited over, though.

Sibil takes note of Operations. "Understood," she repeats, with a serious nod to May. She glances at the Operations door again, a little intimidated about it. Her tail even rattles a little, which she tries to suppress. She turns to follow again, easily keeping pace.

Sibil nods in understanding when told that she might end up needing to get patched up in Medical, and gives the section a pretty wary look. "I hope I don't get /too/ familiar," she murmurs to herself as they walk away from it. No one wants to get injured on the job, after all.
Darcy Lewis "Oh, we all do. But if you're in Field Ops, it's like a hope away from home. Word to the wise: get chummy with the night nurse. They can usually... never no way ever sneak you things... ever," Darcy says, tone changing midway through as her eyes go to May.
Natasha Romanoff "Even the best agents will get familiar with the med lab," Natasha says, shifting her weight onto her right foot as she speaks. "It's an unfortunate fact in our line of work. But that is sometime in your future." She flicks her gaze to May then back to Sibil. "When it happens, you may end up on light duty where you can still help with ops even if you can't go out into the field." She makes it sound like that's a good thing. Even while she's mentally cursing that very thing.
Melinda May May gives Natasha a very brief look. "The medical staff are here to make sure you are healthy and physically able to go your job. It's in your best interest to take their advice to heart, because ignoring their instructions can and will make your recovery from any injuries received take longer. I know."

She then leads them on past, toward the last wing of the Triskelion, where the on-base residences, training rooms, commissaries, and the like are located. Of course, Sibil is likely familiar with a small portion of this area, as it's where she's been staying the past couple of days. "So that's it in a nutshell. Do you have any questions?"
Sibilance There's something there. The peculiar emphasis on that point about injuries and light duty makes Sibil look between Natasha and Melinda with an uncertain furrow to her scaly brow. There was a quality to that she can't place, and a hand almost goes up to her head to remove the dampener because her mind KNOWS she could figure it out without it, but she restrains herself. Darcy's comment draws her attention away from that, though.

"No questions. Seems pretty straightforward. Do what I'm told, train when I'm supposed to, don't go into high clearance areas... Still less strict than home was," she says, with a smile that suggests that's in good humor, but the implication... well, it's clear maybe she wasn't let out of the house a lot.
Darcy Lewis NOTIFICATION from her tablet, and Darcy looks at it. "Oh my god. Really. Am I the only one around here who knows where the fucking requistion forms... ugh! I'm going kick his ass, again. Escuse me," she says, grumbling as she makes her ways to the nearest elevator. Office Supply emergency!
Natasha Romanoff "Take the time to learn everything you can. But also take time for you," Natasha adds. "Enjoy it. While it's a job, it's also a lot of fun when you allow it to be." Now who the hell is she and what did she do with the real Natasha? That doesn't sound like something she would normally say but only Melinda would recognize that. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Sibil. I look forward to working with you in the future."
Melinda May Well. Color May impressed. "Agent Romanova is correct. This is not a detention facility. You're free to get out for some fresh air during your down time. Transportation can even be arranged with notice." May seems to settle in a relaxed form of parade rest, and asks, "Have you had a chance to set up a bank account for your paychecks?"

Oh, Sibil WAS informed that she's being hired and will receive a salary and benefits, right?
Sibilance "It... took some convincing of the actual bank, but there was an account opened for me," Sibil says, looking away awkwardly, "I'm told it took some paperwork wizardry for them to open an account." But they did, and that's the important part. "First time I've been paid for anything. I feel a little weird about it," she says, "I'm not really doing this for a monetary compensation." She doesn't feel too strongly, clearly, judging by her shrug.

"It will help me keep my plants happy," she muses.

She dips her head respectfully to Natasha again. "A pleasure, ma'am. I'm sure I'll love it here... since you both seem to love it here, too," she points out, with a little gesture from either of them to each other. "Does this mean I'm excused...?" she wonders, since that wasn't clear.
Natasha Romanoff "I'm not sure if May has more information to share. I just have another engagement," Natasha says in an apologetic tone. "May, we'll talk again soon." Not that they talked this time. Though they did a little bit. Altogether, they got their points of view out. "If you will excuse me." And with a nod to the pair, she heads in the direction of the lobby.
Melinda May May nods to Natasha as she takes her leave. "Yes." She gestures for Sibil to follow her and leads the way to a break room with one of the rare balconies attached. And there's sunlight hitting the balcony just so.

"I'm glad that you were able to get a bank account sorted. And I know you weren't doing this for the monetary compensation, but it's not legal for SHIELD to request your dedicated skills without offering any sort of recompense." As it is, May made damn sure they weren't going to try and cheat the kid and hire her for something insulting, like minimum wage.
Sibilance With nothing more to add having been given a really cordial welcome to SHIELD, complete with at least one member offering to take her out with drinks, Sibil nods gently to Agent May, and tells her, "Thanks very much for the tour, and for making sure I get settled in. I'm sure I'll meet Agent Hill and Agent Coulson soon enough, to get a feel for them too." She gives a little demure fingerwave, her shoulders lifting in a way one might see as girlish or perky, and turns to walk off to where her room happens to be.

Oh, and she's taking the thermos and glass with her, until it's retrieved later.
