Rec Room, Backyard, all over the place. Late at night was one of the few times there would be peace. Also, early in the morning. Like now.<br><br>It was about five in the morning, still dark out and the bite of the cold winter air at its worst for the day. Yet Betsy was out back, a heavy coat on with jeans and a pair of boots. She was far out in the yard, a good distance from the school as she stared up at the moon. It was only about three-quarters but it was still quite bright. <br><br>Her mind was one...nothing. It was just a time to be out and away from everything. Later, the noise would start as the students started their day. For now, it was time to enjoy the peace.<br> <br>

Oh certainly Xavier hires and has contractors to deal with much of the grounds-keeping, to handle the occasional bit of handyman work that needs to be done. But when someone grows up on a farm, or during hard times, they develop habits that are difficult to break. And one such a person that has that small weight upon his shoulders is Piotr.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Out in the chill air, plumes of steam coming from him with each exhaled breath, the tall Russian man is standing in front of that big of wood where they had stored much of the logs that were intended for use at bonfires or inside at the many fireplaces in the mansion. Only, for now, for some reason, he seems to be pulling out select split logs of wood and tossing them in a pile off to the side.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;It's a curious thing, just with him leaning over, running a hand over the surface of some of the wood, thumb brushing over them and sensing something on the surface that he sniffs, then he shakes his head and pulls off another log, tossing it onto the pile he's choosing.<br> <br>

She shoves her gloved hands deeper in her pockets and turns to head that way. <br><br>THUNK.<br><br>The first few logs he had tossed aside had been hitting the ground. The grass and earth had absorbed the sound into a low thud, thus it had not carried to her. Now, the wood was starting to pile on wood and thus the sound which had carried.<br><br>She paused when she was within range, watching curiously then finally giving him a clue of her presence in a single question in that posh English accent. "What are you doing?"<br> <br>

"Making sure we do nt poison the children, yes?" He then straightens up to his full considerable height and turns his head toward her, smiling a little as he greets her. "Hello, Elizabeth. It is good to see you." A not is given as well but then he is looking at the pile.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;"One of the children thought it would be nice to bring in some firewood after the lesson I taught him." He gestures with one gloved hand toward the pile he has amassed. "Unfortunately he chose that copse of woods near the highway." He turns and tilts his head toward her, "Which has been treated for mosquitos. We cannot burn these logs in the fireplace. So I take them out, perhaps I will burn the down by the lake," Piotr nods once in the general direction.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He turns back to her, smiles, "And you? What are you doing, good Elizabeth?"<br> <br>

It had always appealed to a part of her because it fed that quiet when she needed it. In truth, she didn't seek that quiet often. Being she was an adrenaline junkie, it was the opposite of what she usually was after. But there were times. Like today.<br><br>Her smile was soft as she watched him curiously, looking at him then the wood. She moved to the pile he was setting aside and considered. <br><br>It looked like wood.<br><br>"I just needed some time before the day begins so was out here stargazing. How," she waved a hand at the pile. "Can you tell which wood is which?"<br> <br>

Then he taps a hand upon its surface and steps back to that small pile of wood before him. "When you touch the wood it leaves a... residue." He smiles sidelong at her as he kneels before that pile of wood and brushes the index finger of his glove over it, then holds that finger up to her for her to observe the little green granules on his fingertip.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;"Some would say wood is wood, but this..." His lip twists, "Would stink. Perhaps be harmful though I am no chemist, I know not for sure. He probably is just as happy to carry them his way. She would help but this is a designer coat and she doesn't want mosquito spray residue on it. <br><br>She glanced up at the sky and shrugged. "A lot of stars. Lovely moonlight. I did see one shooting star." Her smile slightly rueful. "You're supposed to wish on those. I didn't. I couldn't think of something to wish for." <br><br>She drew her hands out of her pockets. Screw the coat. Reaching out a gloved hand, she picked up a piece of the tainted wood.<br> <br>

Piotr says with a wry smile on his lips even as he finishes stacking up the last of the wood taht he can carry under his broad shoulders and thick arms. He gains his feet fully, and then a nod to her for her help before he sets foot on that trail that leads around the garage and away from the mansion, down into the woods and eventually to the lake and ts attending house.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;"There is always something to wish on, Betsy." Piotr says as he walks, looking over his shoulder. "Like prayers. It is a little bit of a walk but she isn't one to mind some physical exertion. Once on the trails, they have to go more single file and thus him looking over his shoulder back at her. She nods and shrugs. "That is normally what I do. Yet this morning, there was nothing. Maybe I should talk to the Professor." Have him peek. See if something is amiss or she's just having a bad morning. Or just talk to her. He seems to be able to do that without resorting to powers, after all.<br> <br>
