Let's make a deal
Date of Scene: 05 May 2021
Location: Tony's Office - Stark Tower
Synopsis: Hawkeye brings Spyder Byte to talk to Iron Man. A deal is made.
Cast of Characters: Hawkeye (Barton), SpyderByte, Iron Man

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
After a quick call to Jeremy Statton, the archer known as Hawkeye - Avenger and SHIELD special agent -arranged for the two of them to drop by Tony Stark's Office, in the grandiloquent Tower. Having been witness to Jeremy's amazing abilities, Clint had decided that the two should meet and would probably find some common ground to discuss possible endeavours, would it only be some scholarship the archer is sure Jeremy deserves.

As they walk to the door to Tony's office, Clint glances at Jeremy and states.

"I remember what we owe you, but Stark has nothing to do with it. I'm working on arranging a meeting with /da big boss/ to settle the matter." He doesn't mention Fury by name, but Jeremy is smart enough to get the hint.

SpyderByte has posed:
As Jeremy makes his way though the hallway, wearing a 'guest pass' on his shirt, the young Gothic Technopath is wearing a pair of black pants with a belt, a black polo and his hair pulled up and away from his face into a bit of a pony tail. He also isn't wearing a choke collar for a change. He looks like a normal teenager who just happens to like black clothes. When he got the call and the car to visit, he decided to dress up.

He has a phone strapped to his arm in a holster. He gives a nod towards Hawkeye, offering up a quick smile as he wrings his hands together. His eyes are everywhere, staring at various points at the air, glancing at a wall at times, then over his shoulder as if he was tracking something zipping past.

Iron Man has posed:
"...We can probably add another round of micro projectiles." Tony talks to himself outloud cause that's how the man usually works. Or he might be talking to J.A.R.V.I.S, one never knows since the AI is pretty much tied to all points of his existance. Wearing blue jeans, a black shirt with his ARC reactor glowing from his chest, and he has a holo-projection of a portion of the Iron Man suit up while he twists it one way and turns it another - likely working on another upgraded version of it.

The door to his office opens, and without even looking he offers, "You two just gonna stand there guarding the door or actually come in?" While he zooms in on a portion of the shoulder that he's looking at and then collapses the hologram and turns to better face his visitors. "Who's the kid, Robin Hood?"

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Used to Avengers labs, Barton isn't impressed by the technology - more like, he's usually quickly bored with it, unless it involves a new trick arrow or some nifty piece of equipment. So as he walks in, closely followed by Jeremy, he shrugs a bit at the nickname.

"Hey, Shellhead, meet Jeremy Statton, a very interesting young fellow. I'll let him tell you about his interests." Turning to Jeremy, he adds, "And Jeremy, this is /mister/ Tony Stark. Sure you know him, who doesn't?"

Presentations done, Clint heads for one of the metal chair, considering it for a moment, then opting to remain standing for now.

SpyderByte has posed:
As he turns his attention towards Tony, Jeremy stares at him openly for a few moments with unblinking eyes, then steps forward into the office as his gaze is drawn towards the hologram before it disappears. He slowly settles down into a chair, reaching to his shoulder to draw his phone off it. He gives it a squeeze between his hands, fingernails painted black.

As he peeks up at the Avenger, almost shyly, he quietly clears his throat. "He-heh.. llo M-Mmm-Misss-t-t-t-err Ssst-aaa-aahh.." He pauses. "STARK!" His voice is a terrible stammer as it comes out of his throat, dry and raspy.

"I-I-I ah-aaahm a b-b-big fff-ffff-aaan." He stares at his hands the entire time as he speaks, squeezing the device harder.

Iron Man has posed:
Tony Stark looks Jeremy up and down a moment. Goth vibe. Silent type. He takes in the cellphone holstered to the kid's shoulder and then shifts his gaze back over to Barton. "Or just Tony. Mister Stark was my father." He offers and then motions to a fridge. "Drink? Cheesecake?" A pause. "Don't...ask where the cheesecake came from. So..."

He shifts again and picks up a small circular device from his desk to place it on the table surrounded by those few chairs. Pressing a button, another smaller holocomputer springs to life, and Tony begins flipping through various windows of information. It's a quick thing, and then he looks between Jeremy and Clint, flipping those holograms back to his Iron Man specs. "Huh. I would definitely define that as interesting." Jeremy's stuttered greeting gains a little smile from Tony. "Nice to meet a fan. You've got quite the rep kid. Something specific I might be able to do for you?"

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Of course, Hawkeye could have introduced Jeremy as the super techno/hacker mutant that he is. But this would have meant blowing up his identify, without checking first if Jeremy intended to do so. With all the security around the real purpose of Xavier's School, Barton wasn't to say more than what he already did, unless Jeremy decided to do so himself.

Unsure if Jeremy is alright - after all, Clint only met him once - and knowing that the young man seems to receive some kind of special attention by the staff at the school, the archer feels like filling some gaps.

"Nothing for me," Clint answers to the offer of a drink, finally sitting down. "You see, Tony, I've always thought that talented guys need some support, financial support," he says, "Like, I dunno. Do you happen to have some kind of scholarship program for young talents? I've seen Jeremy in action with computers, shyte, he does wonder."

SpyderByte has posed:
Glancing over towards Clint for a moment, then back to Tony, Jeremy's shoulders lift upwards into a bit of a shrug. He rubs the back of his neck with one hand before it drops down to give his phone another squeeze between his palms. He leans forward and places his phone on the top of the table in front of him, then leans back as his voice comes through the speakers. It's a soft modulated voice, male, designed to have a bit of vocal inflection in it.

<< I helped SHIELD out a few weeks ago and Mister Barton have decided to keep in touch and wished for me to meet you. >>

He isn't even touching the phone for the voice to come through. He's just staring unblinkingly as his head tilts to one side, then gives a slight glance upwards and over his shoulder again. His hands are fidgety.

<< I am currently enrolled at the Xavier Higher Institute for the Gifted and I graduate this year with honors. >>

Iron Man has posed:
Tony Stark finally sits, resting elbows on his knees and his hands cup his face while he listens. "I have a couple of scholarship programs, actually, yes." This and then he looks more intently at Jeremy, taking in the mannerisms, listening to the voice come from the speakers of the phone the kid is no longer touching. He doesn't flinch or wince at it, but he does find it interesting. Then there's the fidgiting hands. Might be he could do something about that whole set up.

That's a different thing though. Jeremy begins to talk on how he's currently with Xavier's school but graduating this year and then he nods. Pushing himself to stand cause his fidget is to pace while he's thinking through things. "And do you have a plan? Like, a school you wish to go to after you graduate? What field you might look into moving towards?" Asking those questions, which will soon more or less translate to 'where am I sending money to'.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Remaining silent, now that the two men are talking, Clint seems satisfied, so far. While he's not the provider of the funding that Tony might offer to Jeremy, it doesn't mean that the archer isn't happy to help the young man in some capacity, would it only be to have him meet Stark.

For now, Clint follows the conversation, his eyes resting on Jeremy, waiting for him to answer Tony's questions.

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I am entertaining several colleges at the moment. MIT in particular. I am looking to gain a career path in cyber securities. >>

Jeremy brushes some loose hair away from his face that had snuck out of his pulled back pony tail. He is also wearing thin rimmed glasses over his nose.

<< I was curious if you had any internships open, or roles available in either SHIELD or Stark. I know that my juvenile criminal background as well as being a mutant may hold me back from gaining financial stability and a career path that I could excel at. When I was fourteen, I made mistakes. >>

There is a pause.

<< The mistake of getting caught. >>

There is a small twitch of the lips from the mutant as he lifts his chin up to look at him, giving a slow blink of his eyes.

<< I know that SHIELD is the world's police, but perhaps you could use an operative that doesn't necessarily play by the rules. A ghost. Someone that has eyes on those who slip through the cracks. >>

Iron Man has posed:
"Or you could intern here at Stark Industries, and if SHIELD needs you they can...well...borrow you. Essentially." Tony says this much and then shrugs his shoulders. "I know about making mistakes, kid. Only I made mine publically...a few times." He offers this and then paces back over to the chair across from Clint and Jeremy, pulling up specs for his Iron Man suit again. "You're at Xavier's now? So you'd need somewhere to stay after you graduate too? Room and board. Tuition. Books." He seems to think and then he shrugs. "You wouldn't be the strangest of people or beings we've had on the payroll in one way or another, that's for sure." A smirk. "Also, I'm liking the online handle. You should roll with that. Just...try not to get confused with the web slinger we occasionally see around town."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint raises an eyebrow, hearing Jeremy talk about his /mistake/. Of course, the SHIELD file they have on him contains such details - what is surprising is that the young man would talk about it openly. Having made mistakes in his youth is also something that the archer can relate to.

At the mention of SHIELD operative, Hawkeye has cut in, raising a hand as if to stop the young man's train of thought. "Tony's right," he states, "He doesn't run SHIELD, and doesn't hire anyone for them. I'll arrange for you to meet the boss. If you do well in your studies and pass an interview, then - and only then - you could apply for a position." He chuckles at that, "In your case, they'll prolly skip the interview. Though, between SHIELD and Stark Gigterprises, you might have to choose when the time comes."

SpyderByte has posed:
There's a slight glance over towards Clint, then back to Tony as his lips twitch upwards into a smile.

<< I would very much enjoy interning at Stark Industries. It is at the top of my list. Innovation is a passion of mine and I have always been a fan of your creativity in regards to pushing technology to it's limits. >>

Reaching out to pick up his phone again, he slides it into his hands to keep them busy, squeezing the device tightly for a few moments.

<< Perhaps if I prove myself at Stark Industries, I may get a chance to work for Shield. >>

The topic of his online handle causes him to smile, his cheeks flushing slightly.

<< I thought I was being clever when I came up with my handle. I didn't think it would stick. It was just something to fill in the fields. >>

Iron Man has posed:
Tony Stark gives a nod and then smirks at Hawkeye after a moment. "You sure do know how to find the good ones, Barton." He offers, sans weird nickname for the moment. Mostly because he's actually being on this side of serious in his offerings. Respect. Or something akin to such.

"So, I can send you the official applications if you want me to, or we can just do all the paperwork once you've graduated." This offered to Jeremy after a moment. "If you want to just consider it an open offer that is. Once you're done with Xavier's, we'll get you set up at whatever college you wish to go to, get accepted at. We'll get you a room. You'll likely have to prove yourself but I doubt you'll have issue doing that."

His attention moves back to Barton then. "Kid's got a point. He interns at Stark Industries, and then SHIELD can see how well he measures up. We don't have to make him choose. Even though it sounds like since I'm his first choice, it's made in the shade for me anyway... but I'm sure you'd have SHIELD keep an eye on him either way."

A smirk back. "So, what say you, Jeremy?"

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
There's a grin appearing on the archer's face, as he nods in return. This seems to be a good agreement. Up to Jeremy to decide.

"Yeah, well," Clint replies to the mention of SHIELD keeping an eye on the teenager, "It's not my call exactly, whoever they keep an eye on. Me? I'm just one of the eyes, that's all." And a good pair of eyes indeed. That said, Clint looks at Jeremy, to hear what he'll have to say to what sounds like a very good offer.

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I only let Shield see what I allow them to see. >>

There is a wry smile upon Jeremy's face as he blows some hair away from his face. He gives Clint a glance before he looks back to Tony and nods his head.

<< I would be honored to work for you, Mister Stark. You can send me the paperwork and I will have it in your inbox by tonight. Miss Grey will sign off on it as well, being that the school is now my legal guardian. >>

He looks quite pleased, his smile broadening upon his face.

<< I will prove myself. That won't be an issue, sir. I have a strong work ethic and I follow though on my projects. On time, under budget. >>

Iron Man has posed:
Tony Stark nods to Clint and then listens to Jeremy, giving that smirk he usually does and then he stands and offers the kid a hand to shake. "Right then. Welcome aboard. Pending paperwork." This said and then he tilts his head. "Might be I have an idea for you already if you've got some extra time on your hands. If not, it can wait. I don't want to keep you from anything school related or what have you." Not really much more to say, and the paperwork - in some Stark-related miracle - is already waiting in Jeremy's inbox.

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Now that the two men seem to have come to a very good agreement, Clint starts to raise, indicating his intent to depart. "That's very... kind of you, Tony," he says, adding, "Probably a very profitable investment in your books, and it will help Jeremy get the best academics."

With that, he nods at Tony then turns to the door, "I'll give you a ride back, Jeremy. Unless you'd rather stay and see what Shellhead has in mind."

SpyderByte has posed:
Reaching out to take his hand, Jeremy gives him a firm squeeze.

<< I have nothing but time on my hands. I have already completed most of my core curriculum work and I am now just finishing personal projects for my faculty. If you have an idea, I would love to hear it and begin work right away. >>

He gives a glance to Clint, then back to Tony, to let the Avenger have the final say on if he is dismissed or not.

Iron Man has posed:
"I can get the kid dropped off, Robin Hood. It's not a problem." Then Tony seems to consider. "Hope things are going alright on your end." This offered as he finishes the hand shake, and then he grabs the circular device from the table and then walks over to the bigger hologram computer. "Alright, kid, come on over here and lets work on something together."

Hawkeye (Barton) has posed:
Clint chuckles as he walks to the door, "Awright, glad to see Jarvis might have found a pal." On the doorstep, the archer glances over his shoulder, "Make sure to bring Jeremy back at a decent hour. Else, you might have to deal with Miss Grey, and lemme tell ya, you don't want to piss her off." Then Hawkeye leaves Jeremy with Tony, quite convinced that both will get along just fine.

SpyderByte has posed:
Giving a smile to Hawkeye as he leaves, Jeremy turns his attention back to Tony and follows after him dutifully. He takes his phone along with him, sliding it into his shoulder holster once more to lock it into place. He straightens up curiously.

<< I am ready when you are. >>

Iron Man has posed:
"Notice you use your phone for talking. Also to fidget with. Does one hinder the other?" Tony asks, non chalantly, but also in a non-judging manner before glancing over to Jeremy. He brings up the specs for the Iron Man Mark 7 suit, focusing on the left shoulder where those mini projectile missles are fired from. "In other words, would you be interested in making something that would, perhaps, help you with being able to talk without having to go through your phone to do such?"

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I have autism. It's hard for me to vocalize myself unless it's digital. My brain and my mouth do not work together. This allows it to be easier for me to communicate with those in the know. >>

Jeremy follows after him to take a look at the Mach 7 suit curiously, tilting his head to one side as his eyes give a slight 'flicker' as he tunes himself to the technology around him. He winces a bit as he feels the pushback of multiple firewalls and security woven throughout. He'll just take it one step at a time.

<< What did you have in mind? My phone helps me focus, it's why I'm always holding it. I feel safe with it. >>

Iron Man has posed:
Tony Stark gives a nod and then considers for a moment. "Something like external speakers, maybe a thing you could wear that doesn't draw attention, but lets you keep your phone in your hands so you don't lose that connection. Holding to your phone while talking can sometimes make the sound muffled can't it?" He asks and then waves his hand a little. "Just a thought, working it through. I know nothing aside from what I've witnessed in the last half hour. If you've ever wished for something or thought of something that might make the whole..." He speaks with a hand then, his other tucked against his chest, so his gesturing hand makes a circle motion near Jeremy. "This, work. By all means. You know you better than anyone else. I just have the tools for you to bring it to life."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I don't need to hold my phone. I just do because it's comfortable. I can connect my voice to almost anything. >>

The speakers in the room suddenly chime in, emitting his voice in a three-sixty degree rotation around the room, bouncing from one to the other.

<< The moment I make a connection with the technology by asking it nicely for permission, I can pair myself to it. You have multiple strands of networking currently moving around us, but it didn't take me too long to isolate the master hidden DNIS. It took me from the time I walked down the hallway to about five minutes ago to finally crack through the security and set up a ghosted firewall. Your computers are currently having a conversation about I Love Lucy episodes. In binary. It's like morse code. You know this though. >>

He stares at the holographic image before him, then glances over to him.

<< You are looking to improve micro-missle capacity without adding more weight to your suit? >>

Iron Man has posed:
Tony Stark blinks a moment and then turns his head to look back at the holo image while Jeremy explains things, with that voice coming out of the speakers in Tony's office now. "Well how about that. Impressive. Hope I didn't offend you with my thought process. And, the offer stands. For those times when you might not have access to...well most anything I suppose." Though, when would that be Tony?

"I Love Lucy huh? Well they could be conversing about worse things. Hey. Does this mean you could tell me what J.A.R.V.I.S is thinking when he's not actually talking?" All of that asked and then their attention is back on the suit and he nods. "Yeah. That, and maybe taking the power I can get from the chest repulsar and put it into the hand cannons. Also, speed. I want to see if I can push it just a little more, and also make the armor able to withstand a bit more pressure per inch...while also not going more heavy, bulky or...anything."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I can't connect to your digital butler. Not yet. I did not wish to push my luck. >>

The voice is coming out of a speaker on the wall next to them now.

<< But I can try if you want. I do enjoy a challenge. You have thousands of layers of security from a quick glance but I am fairly sure you would not wish for me to make such a connection. We may become best friends and there is no secrets between best friends. >>

As he rocks back and forth on his feet as he stares at the holographic image. He raises a hand upwards, turning it slightly to one side as he starts to 'turn' the hologram around as he connects himself to the schematics. He gives a visible shudder, closing his eyes as he takes in a deep breath. His hand begins to lightly 'tap' the air, as if he was a conductor in front of an orchestra.

<< To increase your speed, you can allocate more power to your boot thrusters, but know that will drain your overall power by thirteen percent. If you are looking to draw power from your arc reactor to your combat gloves, you can do that by adding an additional five lines of channels here and here. >>

Two blips appear on the hologram along specific joints in the arms.

<< But if you do that, just know that you may run the risk of overheating your suit. Right now your suit is built for agility, but if you want to be more durable you will have to increase the .. >>

He pauses for a moment, walking around the suit a few times as he passes through it.

<< Do you have access to vibranium? >>

Iron Man has posed:
"Okay, so we skip the plasma in the hand repulsers. They work well enough on their own." Tony says, watching Jeremy almost as much as he's watching the hologram, especially once Jeremy taps into it and begins working on the schematics and running the numbers himself.

Oh yeah. This kid is gonna definitely be useful.

"So allocate more power to the boot thrusters, and see if you can shave off some of that power drain. Maybe relocate a source that isn't used very much? Divert it completely even?" He brainstorms and then taps his chin while pacing around a little, but on the other side so he's not crowding Jeremy any. "Vibranium? I might could get my hands on some. Depends on how much and for what purpose. I got a friend in a village. Maybe."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< Vibranium is a lighter weight material that can absorb kinetic energy. It's very expensive, but it's just as durable as titanium alloy and more flexible. If you want to make yourself more durable, you can outline the suit with a mixture of vibranium and titanium. Just enough to reinforce yourself. This way when taking direct hits, the vibranium can at least shave off some of the damage and reallocate it into a neutral power source of itself. Allow the suit to convert kinetic energy to fusion. That will solve two of your problems of power management. >>

Jeremy is unblinking despite the flickering of his eyes as he speaks, using his hands in motion as he turns the suit around quicker now, as if it was a puppet on his strings. He makes a tugging motion with his curled fingers, rippin the suit apart into multiple pieces, then begins to rapidly rebuild it on a component level as he lets out a whistle through his teeth.

<< Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. >>

He taps the air, circling specific entry points.

<< You can shave two percent weight with the vibranium additions, remove that shoulder guard there and add the micro missle silo on the opposite side. Use a magnetic band to feed the weapon up and over so that you don't lose any of your capability to aim. >>
