Reaching Out
Date of Scene: 03 December 2019
Location: Bushwick (Mutant Town), Brooklyn
Synopsis: Daredevil and Leonardo meet. Plans are discussed and moves towards alliance are made.
Cast of Characters: Daredevil, Leonardo

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil had been scarce these last few weeks while Matt Murdock was working his ass off with the case against Trask, but he couldn't stay off the streets forever, he had just as much work to do in his costume as he did without it.

One of those things was reaching out to allies, in this case the strange man he'd fought beside in Brooklyn, the one he'd given the burner phone to.

Picking a rooftop in Mutant Town, Daredevil pulls open the phone and turns on voice command, directing the phone to send a text to the only number in the contacts:

Daredevil >> We should meet, if you're free come down to Mutant Town I'm on the roof of the place across from Club Evolution.

The message is sent, and so now all Daredevil has to do is wait.

Leonardo has posed:
If nobody responds or shows, it's just another night out on patrol. That's one way of looking at it. However, there does come a reply, about an hour after the message is sent:

'Don't go anywhere.'

Traversing the sewer tunnels is nothing for the one who answered, and the Bushwick area, commonly known as Mutant Town, is close enough to the lair that it isn't too long to get there like this. Hitching a ride on a subway train would also work, though it'd need to be done carefully, without notice.

One way or another, when Leonardo makes his way up to the roof, he does so as silently as the ninja he is. He keeps to a more shadowy area just in case other eyes are on the place, but as far as Daredevil is concerned...this is a test to find out whether or not he notices. He has heard of the man, but does not know too much beyond that.

Daredevil has posed:
When Leo arrives the Daredevil, is near the edge of the building looking down at the street, or at least that's what it looks like he's doing. Though as the turtle arrives, announced by barely a sound but the faint whiff of sewer, Daredevil smiles but doesn't turn, at least not yet.

"You're as well trained as your friend," he remarks then turns around facing the shadows. "Thanks for coming to meet me, I wasn't sure if anyone was going to respond, I left this too long."

Leonardo has posed:
Leonardo's first instinct is to move deeper into those shadows. He's accustomed to others being able to see, and thus far has no reason to suspect any different with Daredevil. He does get a clear look at the man's costume, which causes the blue-masked turtle to squint at the appearance.

"My brother," he clarifies, "and I have had extensive training. We were in the middle of a few things when your message came through. That's why it took a bit to answer. But I am here."

There are certain things that do cause him to stand out as different. Yes, there is that sewer scent, and even if he bathes it's hard to completely mask it. He doesn't smell particularly human, and there are hints of leather and metal as well, depending on how good the man's sense of smell is.

Daredevil has posed:
It's very good. The metal and leather is noted, likely too the smells of pepperoni and cheese and other classic toppings, even if it's been a bit since Leo has partaken. He has other senses too, hearing, temperature, and a general radar sense of the area all of it combined to paint a picture in his mind, though one without colour or details, the sky above him was a vast emptiness, and people's faces had no expression.

"Makes sense," Daredevil says when the family connection is established. "And I understand, just worried I'd let things get away from me and you'd tossed the phone before I texted."

There's a brief smile as Daredevil refocuses, "Anyhow, I'm Daredevil."

Leonardo has posed:
Even a faint scent of blade oil may be noted. This is someone who has something sharp, and he keeps that sharp thing in good order. If that radar sense is good enough, the turtle's attempt to keep to the shadows won't do a whole lot to mask the body shape. It's like there's some kind of large pack at his back, or something else entirely.

"Better chance of it getting lost in some of our junk, or repurposed, but no - it worked fine. I am known as Leonardo. What can we do for each other?" he replies, taking up a somewhat crouched stance.

Daredevil has posed:
All of that comes through too, the smell of oil on the sword telling the story of frequent cleaning and immaculate care. As for the body shape he'd gotten a sense of that from Leo's brother, but he was too polite to comment on it at least right now. He figured they were mutants, the kind that lived around here, not the kind that came out of a bottle of ooze.

"Huh, I know someone who'd have the same problem," Daredevil says of the phone being lost. Leo's crouched stance has Daredvil moving back to the edge of the building and sitting facing inwards, to make it clear he meant no harm.

"I hear we have an enemy in common, a man who calls himself the Shredder."

Leonardo has posed:
Leonardo is not likely intimidated by Daredevil, but there is reason to have a healthy awareness of anyone that goes around in some kind of costume. Most, if not all of them, have abilities that can be a mystery. It can be noted that his position does not change even with the distance apart added in.

There is a grunt in the back of the turtle's throat. "That's putting it lightly. He has been our enemy from the time we were..born..but how is it /you/ have run into him? The Shredder has attempted to extend his power beyond his means."

Daredevil has posed:
For his part, Daredevil seems to live up to his name, there's no obvous signs of caution, just a sense of someone who can handle himself in a fight.

"Since you were born?" Daredevil asks. "I heard he was long lived, but huh... may I ask why?" he asks Leonardo. "And me? Admittedly, I made a devil's bargain with him to help stop the Hand, now I see where I went wrong and I want to stop him, and stop the other man who wants to stop him only so he can take over his place, the Kingpin."

Leonardo has posed:
"He seeks to kill our Master and Sensei, and us as an extension," Leonardo explains, seeing no point in hiding that information from someone who has dealt with the Shredder as well.

The one with the katanas rubs his chin before Daredevil can 'see' him doing something around his eyes. He's just adjusting the mask. "The Shredder cannot be trusted. I heard of this meeting the Kingpin arranged, and I would not trust him either. It only makes sense for one crime lord to try to get rid of another."

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil nods, "Who is your master?" he asks it's the next logical question and the world of the truly gifted martial artists was a small one.

"I agree," Daredevil says. "Both that he can't be trusted and that the Kingpin will try to seize power when Shredder is gone, both of them would use us as pawns, I think we need Kingpin's help to take down the Shredder, but I want to be ready to take down the Kingpin when we're done, maybe give this city some piece without men like them running things from the shadows."

Leonardo has posed:
Leonardo sniffs once, more an exhale of breath than anything else. "You may have heard of Master Splinter," but that is all he has to say about it at the moment. How Daredevil reacts - or not - may depend on whether any more is said of the rat or not.

"And I don't really believe in the idea that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. The enemy of my enemy, in this case, is also my enemy. If you help the Kingpin defeat the Shredder, how do you know you won't also help him to become too powerful to stop?"

He rises from his spot against some venting and ductwork atop the roof. "I would pit them against each other, make them think they are interfering with each other's plans. Then, let them weaken themselves."

Daredevil has posed:
"Splinter huh?" Daredevil says with a wry twist to his lips. "Mine was called Stick, maybe they're related." It was a joke, and it was a good guess that Daredevil didn't know Splinter was a rat.

Daredevil shakes his head, "That leaves too many chances for innocents to get caught in the crossfire, I can't take that chance, better to help win cleanly then use the time we're working with him to learn how to take them down," he says with conviction.

Leonardo has posed:
Leonardo decides to try something, moving out into plain view. How Daredevil reacts or not may tell him something about the man. Of course, a minimal reaction might just mean he is used to ones like the turtle. "I would be surprised if Master Splinter is related to anyone else. He has not told us of anything like that."

He continues, "You may be right." Getting innocents in the middle of things any more than they already are would be bad. "But I am not exactly going to fool anyone when it comes to going undercover."

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil's reaction is minor when Leonardo steps out of the darkness, he could see him as clearly now as he could a moment ago, as for his shape, it doesn't get a comment, though Leonardo does get a nod.

"Fair enough," Daredevil says. "Does he look like you?" he asks of Splinter.

"Trust me, I've been there, it's not fun, and undercover? I take it you and your brother don't like to be seen?" he asks him.

Leonardo has posed:
"He does not," Leonardo answers of Splinter, without going into detail as to how. "And we are used to working in shadow." Like many ninja. "In fact, I'm a little surprised you didn't react in any real way when you saw me." The comment is a probing one, the turtle crossing his arms as he takes a close, long look at what can be see of Daredevil's face.

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil nods filing that fact about Splinter away before a thought occurs, "Don't suppose he's an old guy about this tall," he holds his hand a few inches shy of Daredevil's own six feet, much taller than Splinter, "Walks with a staff with a sword in it?"

He wouldn't put it past Stick to put on a new identity to train up mutant fighters for his cause.

As to Leo's question he replies glibly, "I don't like to see the colour of people's skin, or shells for that matter, all that matters to me is that you're skilled, willing to fight Shredder, and care if innocents get hurt or not, those are all big pluses to me. What you look like doesn't factor into it, except for your desire to stay in the shadows, but we can work with that if you're willing to help me out?"

His face is kept carefully neutral, giving little in the way of reactions, but something about how he carries himself suggests there's more going on.

Leonardo has posed:
If Daredevil knew the truth..Splinter is not in fact that short in comparison. "That's not far off," Leonardo admits, "but I have never seen him hiding a sword in his staff." Leo himself comes up about half a foot shy of Daredevil's full height.

The mention of shells seems like an obvious one. After all, seeing the turtles would make it pretty difficult to miss that part of their anatomy. "We have stayed in the shadows because we were not sure the world was ready to see us, but there are more out there than we thought who look different. We have been forced to reconsider our secrecy at times." A pause, then he adds, "The important thing is stopping these organizations, these clans."

Daredevil has posed:
"Fair enough," Daredevil says about this Master Splinter. "But please give him my respect all the same."

"I can understand that, especially with the Sentinels, people can be ignorant, especially when dealing with things they don't understand," he says. "Though things are changing, and if you ever decide to step out into the light full time I would seek the aid of the X-Corporation, they're are some good people there, including their lawyer who's done a lot of work for my neighbourhood."

"And you're right, we need to take down the Shredder and Kingpin, before we worry about anything else. So, then, what do you say to an alliance, we share info and back each other up put up a coordinated front, and when the time comes we take down both these crime lords."

Leonardo has posed:
"I will see if he's heard of you," Leonardo nods. "Turns out he might not have been as reclusive as we all thought." While he still has questions about Daredevil, they are left alone for the time being. There are other things he will have to look into first.

Without committing to any of the suggestions, he says, "I will speak to the rest of my family and my clan, and I will let you know what we decide soon." Leo may be the de facto leader in the field, but important decisions must be discussed with the rest first. He begins to step away, indicative that he may consider this meeting as coming to a close. "Stay alert, and safe."

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil nods, "Thank you, if he hasn't heard of me, ask him if he's heard of the Immortal Iron Fist, he's an ally of mine, another fighter in this cause."

God he hated how much that made him sound like Stick.

"That works," Daredevil says holding up his phone, before he tucks it away calling back, "You too," before he fires a cable from a baton he draws and swings away into the night.
