Cast of Characters: Wonder Woman, Loki

Wonder Woman has posed:
As either fate or luck would have it, it's been rainy throughout the day and well into the evening to the night -- or at least, it's been so for New York City. The sky is dark and clouded, and rain still falls though now it seems more in fits and spurts. That sort of luck hasn't held true for other areas of the state. Other areas have been plagued with weather that is both hot and dry, and this makes for a bad combination of circumstances. The sort that tends to lead to forest fires not only being a concern but a reality.

It's been about a week or so that Diana has been away from Manhattan, and away from the Embassy as well. From amongst the clouds does she descend, a Themysciran shield slung across her back. She wears a one-pieced outfit that makes her easily recognizable as Wonder Woman, along with the knee high boots that go along with it and her bracers that she nigh always wears. Her black hair is secured in a loose ponytail which is sodden and dripping down her back. The rain, on the way, has been refreshing after a fashion, and it has rinsed at least some of the soot and ash from her in the process. Not all, but some. Her feet land lightly on the roof of the embassy, and she pauses there, closing her eyes and listening to the rain pattering across the rooftop.

Loki has posed:
Night is a time that Loki quite enjoys. One thing he doesn't enjoy quite so much is rain. It's wet, and makes his already wavy hair curly. Thus, he walks along the edge of the rooftop with ... an umbrella? Of sorts. At least, the shape of the thing the rain is hitting seems to be umbrella-like, but it doesn't seem to be more than a shimmer of something that isn't quite visible. Or, not entirely visible to the naked eye. There is a faint shimmer every time a raindrop hits it, and otherwise, there doesn't seem to be anything there. The effect is interesting. Rather like what one would expect a forcefield to look like.

Wonder Woman has posed:
The sound of the rain is one that pleases her ears, and she keeps her eyes closed whilst she listens to the soft sounds of the water droplets falling all about. And amongst those sounds, she hears... footsteps. That, in and of itself, isn't entirely a strange thing. The strange part is that the sound of them is from upon the roof where she is rather than the ground where she would expect them to be from.

Her blue eyes open, and Diana turns to look in the direction of the footsteps. One of her eyebrows quirks up at the shimmer that comes with each raindrop to strike the pseudo umbrella, and a smile touches at the corners of her lips. "'Tis not the best night for wandering rooftops," she says, a touch of curiosity and a hint of weariness to her voice that has naught to do with him and everything to do with her time away. "Welcome and well met once again, Loki," she says, inclining her head towards him.

Loki has posed:
This umbrella is also lacking any visible means of holding it up. And Loki certainly isn't holding onto anything. But, he's staying entirely dry. And the thing is moving right along with him. "Perfectly fine night for wandering rooftops," he counters. He skips and spins a pirhouette, coming to a stop facing Diana. "And how ar-.." Loki's words cut off there as he notes what little remains of the ash and soot that had been upon the woman. "What happened to you? You look like you've been wandering one of the hell dimensions."

Wonder Woman has posed:
The 'umbrella' that he has earns her attention as she looks him over. Soaked as she is, she can appreciate that particular form of magic given that he's comfortably dry. She tilts her head to one side at his actions, and she can't help but to chuckle softly. "'Tis not the worst weather that I have seen. And better with an umbrella" Diana says, a smile touching at the corners of her lips.

At his halted question, she raises an eyebrow slightly, and the she takes a fleeting glance over herself. "Ah. Well, it was nigh akin to a hell dimension that the term could well apply to it," she says, a touch wryly. "A forest fire, to the north and west," she offers by way of explanation. "I am unharmed, for all of the soot that the fire has left behind upon me," she adds. Which might be better than she had been, given that she regenerates fairly readily.

Loki has posed:
It's magic. It has to be. There simply isn't any other real explanation for it. Or, well, it could be very advanced technology too, technically. Not only is Loki dry, he's also soot and ash free! Entirely. He entirely ignores the comment about the weather this time. He pointedly does not look at the rain. Nope! Doesn't like rain! He turns to look north and west, then back to Diana. ".... why?" He truly looks as though he lacks in understanding. Though, that really could be a front!

Wonder Woman has posed:
Though she doesn't have magic of her own to cast spells with, she does attribute his umbrella to being a product of it. If it is, she may or may not be able to sense it. Diana notices that he doesn't look to the rain, and that's a thing that she finds curious, though she doesn't ask after it. She rubs at a smudge of soot on the back of her left hand, though her gaze rests on him yet.

She tilts her head a bit to one side at his question, and she gives him a puzzled sort of look. "Why? Do you mean why was there a forest fire or why was I there?" she asks, her brow wrinkling a touch. "One question is simpler to answer than the other is. I know not how the fire started, though one of the firefighters mentioned it may have been from an electrical pole causing a spark. The fire shifted unexpected and headed for a town that would not have had enough time to evacuate," she says, her blue gaze watching him. She adjusts one of her bracers, and she takes a step towards him before lifting a hand to gesture towards the roof's door. "Would you care to come inside?" she offers, a smile touching the corners of her lips.

Loki has posed:
But, this is Loki. Statistically speaking, it's more likely to be magic than technology. "The latter," he supplies, but listens willingly enough to both answers. He shakes his head. "Tsk. Survival of the fittest. If there's a fire nearby, and people aren't smart enough to be ready to evacuate should the fire turn and place them in danger, I feel very little sympathy for them." His eyes follow the guesture to the door, and he shrugs. "Sure. Why not?" He walks toward the aforementioned door.

Wonder Woman has posed:
There is a smile that touches at the corners of her lips at his clarification, and she watches him for a long moment. Then she lifts her gaze up to the sky, letting the rain fall on her face. "It is a part of what I do... helping people," Diana says softly. Her eyes close for a moment before she opens them again and turns her gaze back to him, watching him. "Darwin's theory," she says, tilting her head a touch to one side as she considers his words. "Many people do take the advice to evacuate when fires threaten. Sometimes, fires can be an unpredictable thing and they do not always behave in the ways that one might expect," she says.

A smile quirks at the corners of her lips as he agrees to come inside, and she watches him start to head towards the door. She shifts her weight and turns to follow him to the door. She briefly touches a security pad next to the door and it shows a green light for a moment before she opens the door. "After you," she says, inclining her head towards him. She lifts her free hand, to pull the elastic out of her ponytail and set her hair free.

Loki has posed:
Loki shakes his head. "I disagree. Fires aren't unpredictable at all. You can always trust that if there's fuel, they will continue burning, in whatever direction the wind happens to be pushing them. It's the /wind/ that's unpredictable, not the fire," he points out, lips curled up into a mocking sort of half smile. He nods once at the door, and her words, and steps inside. Once inside, without the rain falling on it, if the magical shield is still up, it can no longer be seen. It never could be sensed.

Wonder Woman has posed:
"Unless there is sufficient water to stop them from burning then yes, they will continue to do so in the direction that the fuel is," Diana agrees, giving a small nod. She studies him for a moment as he moves to step inside. "The wind is an unpredictable thing, that is true... it can carry the burning embers and spread the fire to other places, it can dry out the fuels by moving moist air away," she adds, her tone thoughtful. She steps forward and through the door after him, then pulls the door closed behind her which makes it latch.

Lifting a hand, she brushes the rain from one of her cheeks. She watches him a moment, then slips past him to open a door to the left. She steps through the door, holding it for him. "What drew you to my rooftop tonight?" she asks, a touch of curiosity to her voice. There is a staircase beyond this door, the stairs leading down to the various floors of the Embassy.

Loki has posed:
Loki pauses and glances at Diana over his shoulder. He points one finger at her and nods. "Bingo!" He follows to the door she moves to, his steps unhurried. "Nothing drew me to your rooftop," he says. "I was bored and looking for something to cure it. Then you happened along." Well. That seems simple enough, doesn't it? Loki glances curiously at the staircase, and waits for Diana before starting down the stairs. His pace is, once again, still, unhurried.

Wonder Woman has posed:
One of her eyebrows quirks up as she looks to him, and a smile tugs at the corners of her lips. Diana looks briefly over her shoulder towards him as she starts her way down the stairs, her steps even and unhurried. "Wind is part of what can make fire difficult to put out," she comments. She gives a small nod to his answer, weighing it for a moment. "It almost seemed as though you were waiting for me to return," she comments, a hint of amusement to her voice. She continues to head down the stairs, pausing after two flights to look over her shoulder to him. "Would you care for anything in the way of food or drink?" she offers. "The Embassy serves as a home for myself and my Sisters. There is a kitchen on one of the lower levels, and there is always both food and drink available to be easily rounded up," she adds.
