An Alien Visits a Bakery
Date of Scene: 11 October 2024
Location: The Dark Side Bakery, Flushing
Synopsis: Mon-El - or Lar as he calls himself - visits the Dark Side bakery and befriends Shiloh. Sort of.
Cast of Characters: Shiloh Foster, Mon-El

Shiloh Foster has posed:
Some bakeries get all their baking done in the morning and just go until they sell out. Other bakeries can continue to bake throughout the day, and people think that's better. Shiloh is a little in between. She does a batch of things in the morning and then another batch of things during her lunch break. This way she can keep a steady flow of goodies in the window for people to purchase all through the day. If things are getting 'old', she sells them for less, and if she has any custom orders - she may have to only stay open for half a day.

It's a good life.

For now, it's just after the morning rush. There's some stragglers finishing their coffee and treats at some of the tables, but her display case is still pretty decently arranged with goodies to choose from. A few orders this morning were custom so that kept dine-in and take-out orders light. At the moment, she's cleaning off some tables and making sure nothing at the tables needs refilling.
Mon-El has posed:
On this particular morning, Lar finds himself on Earth again, strolling around Queens. One of the bakeries around here seems to have a...unique theme to it so he decides to check it out. Not every day you see a bakery with a futuristic vibe to it, that was usually reserved for amusement parks and the like. These typically stuck with rustic styles or flowers or some kind of natural look if anything distinct at all.

Regardless, it's the food that matters the most right? Usually can't too far wrong with Terran cuisine either way, so he walks in and starts browsing through the various items on display.
Shiloh Foster has posed:
Shiloh glances up and over as the bell on the door goes off. A smile is offered and she lifts a free hand, "Hey! Welcome to The Dark Side. Can I help you with anything?" Asking even as she finishes up sweeping and goes to dump it into the trash. Then she goes and washes her hands in the sink before she finally turns and walks over to the counter. All of this to give the man time to look over some things. There's Death by Chocolate, Caffeine Dream and Velvet Desire for cupcakes. The regular line of cookies like chocolate chip and oatmeal, but there's also the signature The Dark Side cookie. Breads, cake slices, etc. All sorts of goodies to behold!
Mon-El has posed:
"Death by Chocolate"? Lar asks, chuckling a bit as he passes by the display. "I hope that's some kind of word play." he glances around the shop briefly, taking in the various decorations and choice of interior design. "So, I'm guess some kind of creepy, futuristic vibe? Dystopian, or just decadent?"
Shiloh Foster has posed:
"Oh aye. It is. Just means it's a chocolate cake, with a dark chocolate ganache filling and the icing is also chocolate." Shiloh explains before giving a tilt of her head. She hasn't met an alien before, mutants yes. Super humans? Yes. Not aliens. So when he's asking about the decor, she looks around and then back to him. "Are ya not familiar with Star Wars? The movies? All the best villains are English you know. Like me. So I gotta go with my crowd, aye? Plus. The Sith are just cooler."
Mon-El has posed:
"Ooh, so it's a Terran pop culture thing." Lar remarks with realization. "I see. No, I haven't," he laughs. "I guess I haven't been around this planet as much as I thought." A pause. "Well, hey why not. I'll try it."
Shiloh Foster has posed:
"The chocolate cupcake?" Shiloh asks while shifting to get a small box to put the cupcake in. "Anything else you might want to try? The caffeine dream is a coffee chocolate blend I came up with myself. Uhm..." Then she blinks. "Oh. Well. You'll have to see them. Well. The first three, which is actually the middle three, just filmed first." Not like that's at all confusing.
Mon-El has posed:
"Yep." Lar nods, confirming. "Oh, so these are your own creations?" he asks with a smile. "That's cool. Sure, I'll try the coffee one...even if caffeine doesn't have much of an effect on me."

He frowns, trying to digest her explanation. "Right...so, Star Wars 1-3? Or, is it Star Wars...middle? How many are there?"
Shiloh Foster has posed:
"Oh yeah. They're all my own recipes, and I bake them each morning so they're fresh for the public." If Mon-El has been around Terra enough, he might recognize her accent as being from the United Kingdom. London specifically. She grabs a new box which will fit two cupcakes and puts one of each inside the box before closing it up. "Is that all for you then?"

"Well there's been nine total. But they released out of order. It went 4, 5, 6 and then 1, 2, 3, and finally 7, 8 and 9. True fans don't really talk about 1, 2, or 3 tho...flops we think."
Mon-El has posed:
Lar nods and starts to move over to the register to pay for the items. "Yeah."

Though he seems a little confused by that last comment. "Flops...as in...no one likes them? Or is there another reason you don't talk about them?"
Shiloh Foster has posed:
Shiloh gives a chuckle. "Well, a few settings is fine. Unless you get hooked...and I'm not sayin' you shouldn't watch them. They were flops because a lot of us didn't feel like they stayed true to some of the themes. There were a couple of ridiculous characters that we hated. But I mean, as a whole, since the franchise is popular..." She shrugs. "Just saying, best of the nine, are four thru six." She smiles. Then gives him what may seem like a cheap price for two hand made cupcakes. But she smiles as she asks, "Cash or card?"
Mon-El has posed:
"So they weren't bad then? Just not as good as 4-6? Er, what was wrong with 7-9, same thing?" Lar asks, curious.

"Oh the um--" he takes out a credit card and waves it in front of the scanner. "Yeah, the rectangle...thing."
Shiloh Foster has posed:
"Right. And seven thru nine were.... eh... kinda forced? Cause they had the same cast as 4-6. Give or take a few... but... I mean they weren't bad, but the classics. The real deals. 4-6..." She offers with a grin.

When he takes out a credit card, she nods. "Yeap. Just... here let me..." And she'll help him make the payment on her system - which goes through after a moment. The box is placed in a bag and the bag handed over. "Here you are. Thank you so much. I do hope you enjoy them."
Mon-El has posed:
"Got it. Maybe I should save the best for last though, huh?" Lar suggests, mostly to himself. He takes the merchandise. "I'm sure I will, usually can't go too far wrong with Terran cuisine."

"What's your name, by the way?"
Shiloh Foster has posed:
"Or you can watch them in order just to get the whole story line and then remember that 4-6 is your favorite." She says and then laughs. "For all seriousness tho, watch all nine. It's a great story all in all. That whole good triumphing over evil but not without some failures along the way."

She tilts her head and then chuckles. "Oh. I'm Shiloh. And yourself?"
Mon-El has posed:
"Fair point." Lar says with a nod. "Maybe I'll try that. But yeah, definitely all nine at some point."

"Lar," he tells her, offering a hand for a shake. "Nice to meet you. So you own this place?"
Shiloh Foster has posed:
Shiloh reaches out to shake his hand and smiles. "Yeah. This is my own little slice of the American Dream I guess. I got really lucky cause this place was for sale and it came with a little apartment upstairs so I don't have to spend an arm and a leg trying to survive in this city." Not that she would have issues with that, but that's her own little secret.
Mon-El has posed:
Lar shakes her hand briefly, but frowns at the comment about spending limbs. "Did...someone else you know have to sell their body parts to someone?"
Shiloh Foster has posed:
"Oh my. You really haven't spent a lot of time on Earth have you?" Shiloh offers with a chuckle. "It was a figure of speech. I don't have to spend a lot of my hard earned money to live in New York is all I meant."
Mon-El has posed:
"Definitely not as much as K--er...Superman." Lar replies, chuckling as well. "But I'm glad you didn't literally mean that." He starts over toward one of the two person tables near the window with the baked goods he just purchased. "Join me?" he offers. "If you're not busy, that is."
Shiloh Foster has posed:
Shiloh glances around, seeing that the other patrons have left and then she glances back to the clock before back to Lar. "I got time. Just in time to close for lunch, actually..." She says this with a smile and then grabs something from under the counter before moving to the front door. She puts up the 'Closed for Lunch' sign and locks the door. "Can I get you something to drink? I got water, tea, juice, milk, or coffee..."
