Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Alfred Pennyworth, Pepper Potts

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
It's an early night in Gotham, the sky dull and dark with rain clouds. Deep inside the walls of a Gotham mansion rests the party of the evening, a grand gala of sorts with everyone who's anyone in attendance.

From inside these hollowed halls of gothic architecture soft music plays in the main room, with tables for food sat abound and a generally laid back feeling to the whole event. It's not the most high octain of gatherings but it's certainly not the lowest of key events hosted by one of Gothams richest families still out of prison.

Alfred stands near the back of the party dressed in one of his finest blue suits which to be fair was taken right from the 1960's but with how much it cost him back in the day it was no wonder the suit held up against the test of time. He's just as dapper as the day he first put on this suit and fought through Prague.

In one hand he holds a simple vesper, his other hand down into the pocket of his suit, checking a simple but effective Breguet Pocket Watch. His attention drifts down to it counting down the hours that he'll have to enjoy the company of so many socialites. It was like the old days in many ways, the least of which being that he had to pretend to be having a good time.

Pepper Potts has posed:
The entrance of Virginia Potts and Tony Stark had been a *thing* earlier. Loud, flashy, Tony was half in his suit, showing off and shaking hands before kissing Pepper in front of the entire crowd. The question of the two being an item was quickly fading out of the public mind. But then the evening went on -- Tony drinking, busy, or having disappeared on other business that probably wasn't corporate in nature. Pepper, however, was still there. She had a charitable donation check to hand over to whomever would be collecting them and a lot of nice-making to do, so she remained at the party. Shaking hands. Smiling. Polite conversation.

In truth, it all was exhausting.

It's towards the end of the night that she hovers closer to the back of the room, out of any spot light, just looking for some quiet and perhaps some hidden coffee to counteract the champange before she has to work in the morning. She looks only slightly like a wilted flower now, but that is because she's let a bit of her perfect exterior slip. For just a moment. Little does she realize how close Alfred actually is.

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
"Long night?" Alfred spoke calmly in his deadpan voice. His expression one of complete nonchalance. There was something about the night that had mandated he be up the entire night and to be perfectly honest four vespers in he was feeling very much too British to care.

"Found the opening volley of your intro to be quite the spectral. Mr.Stark always so... flashy?" Very much spoken quietly enough that the other guests don't overhear the conversation as he offers a bit of a conciliatory smile. "I can imagine what it must be like." There's a low sip from his glass. "Coffee's to your left."

With Bruce's own entrance just as showy, just as flashy a woman on each arm as always... He'd gone off somewhere to get drunk kiss women and put on a show of just how much more wealthy he was then those around him.

Pepper Potts has posed:
Coffee? How did he know? Pepper slightly jumps at the voice, truly not having realized he was there, but his tone is so gentle and unassuming there is no startle after. He's the sort of person that can just set someone at ease -- even if she's the most high strung woman in the world. A small smile cracks across Pepper's still perfectly painted mouth, "...Coffee? How did you know. God. Yes. Thank you." She mutters huskily, stepping to the other side of him so she can start making herself a cup of the stuff. Cream, no sugar.

"...and yes, Tony is... always that flashy. Hell, this is calmer. I talked him out of flying in with the full suit. It's not our city, I told him it might be rude." She smirks to herself, but it's a fond smirk, the look in her eyes clearly one of someone who madly loves the man, even if she's exhausted with putting up with him. "It's always a long night, but worth it. I... still have the contribution check. It's rather large so... I didn't want to just drop it off in a box somewhere. Prefer to hand it to someone safely."

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
"It's my job to know Madam" Alfred counters in that calm cadence to his voice drifting from one word to the next without ever needing to raise his voice to be heard over the sounds of the crowds. A light smirk crosses his face.

He listens silently with a rapt attention stood calm and stoically. When he finally does speak it's with a carefully selected vocabulary. "Well I'm certain they'll appreciate the gesture."

"Yes, Master Wayne can be just so much the handful himself, always getting into some kind of trouble." He lets out a light hearted chuckle clearly feeling something towards the man, though in his case it's more the attitude of a father proud of his son while at the same time disagreeing with some of his attitudes.

Pepper Potts has posed:
Pepper silently finishes making her coffee and she raises it to him in a quiet toast before taking a long, desperately needed sip. Her eyes shut for a heartbeat or two, just savoring the taste of the much needed pick me up. She then slips back to his side, back instinctively to the wall, able to watch the room for any social problems that might occur. Normally she's in his position. It's still habit for her. "It's the least I can do, Tony coming in, making a show and disappearing after an hour. I'm sure it was some sort of emergency, but..." Her expression pinches just a bit. A mix of exasperation and worry. Mainly worry. Tony probably went off on some Avenger's mission.

"Master Wayne? You... you work for him, then? I'm Pepper, by the way... Pepper Potts." She offers her free hand with a warm, respectful sort of smile, No disregard or disrespect for him being the help. she knows how it is. If anything, she looks a bit more relaxed for being near him and not having to put on the airs of society as she did all night.

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
Alfred is silent again nodding along at the mention of Tony leaving so soon. It was a common occurrence from everything that Alfred had read in the papers, even if most the papers were digital for a long time already.

He takes a long sip from his vesper first before speaking in that well collected voice. "The name's Pennyworth, Alfred Pennyworth, and the pleasure is mutual." Spoken with a slight Scottish tinge to his voice as he gives a friendly smile. "I've worked with Master Wayne since he was only a boy, I believe it's safe to say that I am as much a father to the man as I am an employee."

Pepper Potts has posed:
"Oh! Yes... Mr. Pennyworth! It's an honor. I believe I read a piece about you in the Atlantic the other month... the wisdom behind the fortune. It... it was a very nice piece. It's an honor to actually meet you in person. I should have recognized you but it wasn't a feature article, I don't know that there were any photos." Still, Pepper went through the work of reading an article about another person's support structure, perhaps looking for some comrade across the distances. She looks both more relaxed and a touch happier for having realized who the older man is.

"I can't say I've been with Tony that long. Just... well, almost ten years now. Since we were both just out of school. It...doesn't feel like that long. And some days it feels longer." She admits with a tired rasp of a chuckle.

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
Alfred speaks with a small smile. "Well I didn't think anyone would pay that piece any heed." He chuckles quietly. "I suppose I'm rather glad someone at least read it, even if I barely found the time myself." He leans in a bit closer. "Some of the details I will admit were a tad exaggerated, but the expose was an entertaining work if nothing else."

"Time has a way of catching up with you, why it seems only yester that I was helping to teach young Master Bruce how to spell." He pauses for a moment before looking to the far wall where Bruce had been earlier that night. "And now he's living it up with a different woman every night, and a new party every day." He chuckles slightly to himself, shaking his head. "Trust me, they say time flies when you're having fun but it simply fly's full stop."

Pepper Potts has posed:
"It...it really does. And I'm sure he'll settle down sometime. All the women, that is. Tony... did it too. For... a very long time." But he only came in with Pepper tonight, and while he made a show of it, it seemed genuine. The hope in Pepper's eyes is clear, even if there is reservation and doubt behind her pale gaze as well. A woman who has been burned too many times. Too old to fully hope with nothing but innocence. SHe takes another sip of her coffee.

"If... if you ever need some time off or away, I know a few nice places. I'd be happy to book you in... I know what it's like to.... to be the organization behind all of this." She motions to the room, "The best feeling and the biggest headache in the world..."

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
"Yes, well that is the hope after all." Alfred speaks as a man who knows Bruce far better then that hope. "I do worry sometimes that the lifestyle he's chosen will end up the death of him." Actually a constant worry with what he knows behind the scenes about Bruce but still no need to let that little detail slip. "Though at least he's already had a child so I suppose all hope's not lost of him settling down eventually."

"I would love to take you up on the offer Ms.Potts" He speaks with another smooth sip from his vesper. "And even make sure that check goes where it's needed, if you don't mind of course."

Pepper Potts has posed:
"Oh! Of course, of course... you could handle this." Pepper smiles a bit more and reaches into her purse. She pulls out a check for 500,000 to the charity of the night, already signed by her, from Stark Industries. And, along with it, she takes out her card from her little clutch before slipping the clutch tucked back beneath her arm. She hands both in his direction.

"The check for your cause, tonight... And the card is for you. Decide what you might like to do. Massage, spa... very quiet meal where you don't have to cook a single thing yourself or do anything other than pick up your fork... A library all to yourself. Just name it. I can find some way to let you relax, for once, so you can keep sane chasing that man around the world." Pepper states with an understanding smile.
