In orbit around Earth, the Justice League Watchtower was the first line of defense to protect the people of the planet from extraterrestrial harm. It shared a lot of those responsibilities with Alpha Flight, but the JL members always considered themselves the real first line. Today was a day like any other, except, on this rare instance, it was relatively quiet.
On duty today, for mission monitor duty, was none other than Hal Jordan, Earth's Green Lantern. Or one of them anyway. He was located in the M.M. Room, and was sipping on a hot mug of hot chocolate.

Ever since Billy was a young boy and still with parents, it has been his dream to be a superhero and become a member of either the Avengers or Justice League. When the Wizard chose him to be Earth's Champion and the World's Mightiest Mortal, it was a boy's dream come true... despite the fact that with that comes a nemesis (Black Adam), a huge and motley assortment of rogues (Mr. Mind, Dr. Silvana, Ibac, Dr. Allerog, etc.) and responsibility for dealing with magic (along with Constantine, Dr. Strange, et. al). It's why, after years of protecting Fawcett City and helping out the bigger groups that Billy (as Cap) finally got himself an invitation to join the Justice League.
It's why, today, after first calling out the Wizard's name and transforming into his hero form, he flies up until he's right outside the Watchtower's main window in full view of Hal if he looks up, wearing a huge goofy grin and waving, and speaking (although in space, nobody can hear you talk) "Golly! Hi there! Oh my gosh! You're GREEN LANTERN! You're like, next to Superman, one of my favorite heroes!"
Eventually, he realizes that Jordan couldn't hear him, he flies quickly into the Tower and lands in the Lobby and calls up, "Holy moley, is this where the Justice League hangs out all the time??? This is really swell! I've never been in space before!" Cap speaks a lot like a kid strangely enough, with 50's slang and vocabulary.

Now that was certainly something one did not see everyday. Hal had noticed that Capt Marvel was heading this way, as the sensors had informed him of the approach, but Hal never got used to heroes (or villains for that matter) being able to suvive in the vacuum of space without a power ring. Or ship. Or suit.
"Amazing..." Hal shook his head, trying to figure out what Marvel was saying through the observation window. Pointing to his ear, and then pointing at Marvel, he was about to point to the docking area, but Marvel had already headed in that direction.
After a few moments, Hal turns at the sound of the new arrival, and his voice. Hal Jordan turns before nodding, and says, "Captain Marvel! Welcome aboard the Watchtower. Good to see you!"
Hal smiles and takes another sip of the hot chocolate before adding. "I hope the journey was a safe and enjoyable one?" Hal chuckles, knowing he flew up and was waving at him from outside the Observation window. "Yeah, we hang out here and down on Earth in our other Headquarters. Whatever works. What brings you into orbit?"

Billy floats up to where Hal is and then says, "Gosh, well... I've never been up to the Watchtower before..." His ears turn red, "Until the other day, Batman told me the Watchtower was off-limits to junior..." Here he rolls his eyes, "...members of the Justice League aren't allowed in the Watchtower." He then makes a very bad Batman serious/intimidating face and gravelly-voice, "If I catch you there, I... WILL... FIND... YOU..." Cap shudders a bit.
He then gets a goofy grin and says, "The other day I saw him again and he offhandly told me that he was kidding back then... sorta..." Cap scratches his head, even with the Wisdom of Solomon, NO ONE can tell what the Batman is thinking most times.
- Green Lantern (Jordan) has posed:
"Ah, I see. Funny, we haven't brought you up before. Well, welcome." Hal nods and finishes off his hot chocolate. "AH yes, Batman. He can be...too strict I think. I don't have an issue with you dropping in and seeing what we have here. You are a member, however junior in status. Nice voice though." Hal chuckles. "Done a few of those myself from time to time."
Hal moves over to a table with another mug, a packet of hot chocolate, and a container of hot water. "I just had a hot chocolate and was thinking about another...want one?" Hal mixes one for himself in the mug he already had, tosses in a few coloured marshmellows, and looks over at Marvel.

Cap's eyes go huge, wide and watery and he says, "Oh gosh! Would I? That would be real swell Mr. Lantern, thanks!" He accepts the cup, puts about a dozen mini coloured marshmellows in and drinks it, turning to face Hal with chocolate lips and gets another goofy grin on his face, "That's so good!"

Smiling at Marvel's youthful exuberence, Hal simply nods, and fixes up a second cup. Pouring the hot water into the chocolate mix, Hal then hands the steaming mug over to Cap. "Here you go. It's Zatanna's recipe. She did something magical to the chocolate I think, because it is addictive as hell."
Hal takes another drink, and regards Captain Marvel thoughtfully as he adds more marshmellows. "You know, I truly appreciate your energy and enthusiasm. It's quite refreshing around here, with all the dark, brooding types. I think you'll make a perfect addition to the team." Hal smiles as Marvel appreciates the drink.
