Fresh air. Fresh ideas.
Date of Scene: 15 March 2019
Location: Gardens - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Andrea and Blink discuss their powers and get to know one another
Cast of Characters: Rage, Blink

Rage has posed:
Classes are out and Andrea is back in the garden to enjoy the day and to get some fresh air. She is with her guitar, playing to the flowers, singing along to Fleetwood Mac's Landslide. Her go-to song for when she just needs to decompress and really think about life. At times she will glance down to the phone at her side, as if waiting for the screen to light up and show a message that doesn't seem to come. As she sings, her beautiful voice floats through the air with a hint of natural rasp to it, the kind that has become a staple in her music.

Blink has posed:
Blink is drawn by the music. Hearing it, a favorite song even, she wanders over to the entrance to the garden. Slipping through the wall quietly and moving towards the singer. But not wanting to interrupt her. Staying quiet, which isn't an unusual thing for the young woman with a sweet but shy smile. She draws nearer though, eventually probably being seen out of the corner of the singer's eyes. Clarice hangs back though, as if not wishing to interrupt the performance, or just the moment that Andrea is having.

Rage has posed:
As she plays, Andrea gently rocks in time with the notes of her guitar. Stripped down and acoustic, it's a nice change of pace from her usual upbeat popmusic that has a bit of tune to the vocals and ran through audio scrubbers to be radio friendly. This moment where she is alone, she can be as raw and emotional as she wants to be.

As Clarice comes into her line of sight, she finishes the last few lines of the song, giving a final strum of the strings as she glances down at the instrument. "Hey." She calls over in a soft voice as she shifts the instrument to the side, reaching up to brush under her eye. "Out for another walk?"

Blink has posed:
Clarice gives a quick nod of her head in response. "I'm not interrupting?" she asks. If she gets a shake to indicate she isn't, Clarice comes the rest of the way over. "I enjoy seeing the students. But I also know I don't really belong. So, sometimes it's nice to get away for a little bit," she says quietly and gives a small shrug. Clarice takes a seat on the bench. "I really like that song. You play it well," she says. "There's a commercial on youtube that used it. Some old one, with horses for a beer company. Kind of sad and sweet. Do you know it?

Rage has posed:
"I don't know it. Maybe um.. a Bud commercial? I think.. Fleetwood Mac is my mother's favorite band. Stevie Nicks is one of my heroes. I have all of their songs memorized and I try and put a little bit of them into each of my records. Dreams. The Chain. Edge of Seventeen. God, those are beautiful." Andrea says as she shifts over to make room next to her. "You aren't interrupting though, I just needed to get away myself and get some fresh air. I'm not much of an indoorsy kinda girl. I feel more at ease near the woods or the grass. Just a wolf thing I'm sure, it's part of me .. but when I'm recording or on tour, or even in class I'm surrounded by people who admire me and always /need/ me, and as much as I like the feeling .. I just need space, fresh air. Fresh air brings fresh ideas." She says as she wrings her hands together.

Blink has posed:
Blink listens to Andrea, the green eyes shining softly over at the pop star. Clarice looks down, tucking some strands of purple hair behind an ear, the motion revealing the pointy nature of those ears. "I've been exploring the world a little bit more and more of late," she says. "Though... I'm kind of... well, I'm not the opposite. I mean I love being out in the open and being... away from people and everything. But... I also am used to feeling safe inside of a little space," she says, looking down a bit bashfully at the last part.

Rage has posed:
"I hear you. It's a comfort thing. Sometimes it's safer in a small room than being outdoors where people can be jerks and hate you at first sight. I'm hoping to change all of that. Through my charity, through my music, through my actions. I'm hoping to change the way the world looks at us, so that we won't be afraid of the outside." Andrea says resolutely as she gives a firm nod of her head. "And if I can't, then I hope those after me will step up and continue what I have put into motion."

Blink has posed:
Clarice gives a tiny nod at Andrea's description of the difference between the inside and out. "Something like that," she says, as if Andrea has got some of the gist of it. "I don't know why they dislike us so," she says, shaking her head. Clarice's arms slide about herself in a self-hug. "It's easiest to just stay away from them in the meantime. People like Magneto and Princes Lorna know what needs doing. It's good you're helping change people's minds," Clarice says to Andrea.

Rage has posed:
"The world has always been like this. It fears what it does not understand and unfortunately, some mutants have been aggressive and uses their gifts for bad and they've hurt people. So, it's easy to be scared of someone that can use powers to melt other people, or lift cars and throw them. Humans are squishy and easily broken and they want to feel as safe as we do. But through positive action will we change their minds. It won't be tomorrow or next year, but hopefully in the near future." Andrea looks over to her, brushing her hair back behind her ear. "You okay though?"

Blink has posed:
Blink sits up just a little bit straighter. "Yeah. Yes. I'm ok," Clarice says softly, giving a little nod. She drops her arms from the self-hug, though her shoulders are still a little bit huddled perhaps. "Well, I... I'll just keep my head down. And keep Princess Lorna safe," she says. "And, it's been nice being here at the school. The one man with the accent... Sam? He made some fried chicken last night which smelled really good. I thought maybe I could learn how to make that sometime while I'm here. Everyone seemed to enjoy it a lot. I've not really done much cooking. I mean, sandwiches. And, cereal. Soup from a can," Clarice says with a little self-deprecating laugh.

Rage has posed:
"Oh, cooking is easy. Just follow the instructions of a cook book and take your time with it. It is a lot of practice. Fried chicken /is/ really good. One of my favorites. Mostly it's the crispy skin that I desire." Andrea grins at her. "So, you do portals, huh? Can you show me how it's done? How does your powers work?"

Blink has posed:
"Most of my time with the Brotherhood someone else cooked," Clarice says softly. "Cooks, in the palace and all. And before that, just given food, didn't need to cook ourselves," the purple haired young woman says quietly, shrugging. The mention of her portals seem to perk Clarice up though.

She sits up a little straighter and says, "Sure, I'd be happy to show you. I just open one up and it's like there's no space between. Just like a doorway to the other spot," Clarice says. She look around the ground and picks up a small rock. She motions with a hand in front of her and a glowing slash of purple energy appears, opening very rapidly into a large enough area someone could step through. Simultaneously, another one just like it has appeared about 20 feet away, over in one of the fields, but turned a bit more sideways from Andrea's perspective.

Clarice tosses the rock through and it can be seen coming out the other portal to land in the field. She gets up and goes to step through it, appearing over near where the rock landed as well. "See?" she asks.

Rage has posed:
Pushing herself upwards to her feet, Andrea watches the demonstration, tilting her head to one side curiously. "Huh." She says as she gives a lick of her lips in thought. "That is really cool. How far can you do your portals? Like what is the range on that?" She asks as she heads over to the portal, then pokes her arm through to watch it appear on the other side, then draws it back. She steps through it, looking bewildered as she comes out just as quickly to the other side.

Blink has posed:
Blink gives a small shrug as if she's not sure the answer to the question. "Well, my accuracy goes down a little bit with distance. Also, how well I know the place affects that too." She pauses and looks thoughtful, glancing up at the sky. "I don't think I'd be comfortable trying further than... I don't know, the moon probably?" Clarice says. "Though I haven't tried that far. But like, here to Genosha is easy since I know it well. Rogue and Bobby and I went to the beach there the other night. And some others stepped through for a bit as well, before we left," she says.

Clarice opens another portal, saying, "Don't step through this one." The reason why is quickly apparently. The other side is up in the air a good hundred feet above a tropical beach, the time of day quite different than here. "I don't want to hit someone who is standing where I open it, so... first one up in the air so I can check out the area," she says. Though she's just showing Genosha to Andrea, not opening one for walking through.

Rage has posed:
"You can hit the freaking moon with your powers? That's like... insane..." Andrea breathes out as she watches her demonstrate again. "If we were best friends, I'd hit you up for boops all over the world. Would never need to buy a plane ticket ever again." Laughing, she settles back down on to the bench with a heavy thump. "You can literally go anywhere you want in the world and explore it. That is /so/ cool. Easily the coolest power I've ever seen in my life."

Blink has posed:
Blink gets a soft smile. The green-eyed mutant seems really pleased when Andrea is praising her power's usefulness. "It is kind of cool," she says, looking down as she smiles a bit wider at it. "If I wanted to go to like, Hawaii though, I'd need to spend awhile studying just to get close," Clarice says. "If you ever need to go somewhere, just let me know. If I'm around, I don't mind helping. Coming back is more difficult if I'm not with you though. I mean, you can send me where you're at and stream some video and stuff, but it might take a little bit before I feel I know the area enough to... to not hurt someone with a portal opening up on them."

Rage has posed:
"There is like a million live streams going at once. Just hit up the Internet, pull a live stream of Hawaii, then portal there since you can see the action live." Andrea suggests. "Everyone overshares everything, so finding a live action destination is easy peasy." She pulls her phone out and taps along an app, taps a few more times to put in a description, then holds it up. "Here you go. Honolulu. Right on the beach. This person is streaming as we speak."

Blink has posed:
"That's what I've done for new places. Well, not just that. Photos and maps and all sorts of things. The better I know an area, the better I do," Clarice says. "But if I went just off that one video right now? I would probably get within a couple of miles of it. Which means, I need to go REALLY high to make sure I don't hit someone, even if the odds are small." Clarice closes down the portals she's already opened, which seems pretty effortless for her to do. They just close. "From there, I can jump them forward until I get close enough to the ground I feel confident about placement. Looking through a portal isn't as good as being there myself, but it helps a lot."

Rage has posed:
"Even still, that is so fun. Sometimes I wish my powers wasn't so scary. Can you imagine if the world found out their girl next door, squeaky clean popstar was a rampaging werewolf? It would freak people out. They already know I'm a mutant, but I bet they think it's music based or something like that. Either way, I have my share of enemies and hate mail. TMZ likes to jump on every chance to rip on me." Andrea grins. "You can always use an image inducer too, you know. To go out in public and look normal. In case you ever wanted to just stretch your legs and hit up a mall and be yourself."

Blink has posed:
"The people in the kitchen last night, were speaking of these. Where might I be able to get one of these image inducers? And, do they cost very much?" Clarice asks, sounding very interested in one.

The comment about being a werewolf brings a curious look from Clarice. "So is it like in the movies where... once you change do you lose control of yourself? Do your friends need to be worried? And... can you control your chances on your own, or does the moon affect you?" she asks.

Rage has posed:
"I don't lose it if I shift, though there is a primal part of me who calls herself Rage. She's like a voice in my head. She's very aggressive, much like a wolf. Instinctive also. We sorta work together. I've only lost control a few times when I was younger, but for the most part we work as a team. I know it's just a figment of my imagination, at least according to the Professor, but it makes me feel less crazy if I just explain it as an instinct." Andrea says as she sways her arms back and forth. "The moon doesn't effect me, but silver does, so does fire. It hurts me real bad."

As far as the inducers go. "Uh.. I dunno.. maybe Doctor McCoy or Mister Summers would know how to obtain one and what they cost. I think it may just be devices that are handed out to the staff for when they head into the city. I never needed one so I haven't asked."

Blink has posed:
Blink's expression softens a little bit as she hears about Andrea losing control. "It can be bad, getting control of powers," Clarice says softly, offering a sympathetic look. "I'm glad you were able to get control of it at least."

The explanation about the image inducers draws a slow nod from Clarice. "I guess I'll have to find one of them. I don't imagine, I'm not part of the school so... but maybe I can figure out a way somehow," she says with a hopeful smile.

Clarice stands up. "It was really nice hearing you play, Andrea. You sing so beautifully," she says, smiling to the woman softly.

Rage has posed:
"Thank you. I'll sing for you any time you want. I don't mind, actually. I feel like music is one of those things that no one can get tired of. It just makes people feel good." Andrea says with a grin. "I'm sure if you ask, they may loan you one if you wanted to.. let's say go out with me to snag dinner and hang out? It's been awhile since I've been able to kick it with a gal pal and have like a real conversation and do something. Maybe a late lunch since we got a curfew now."

Blink has posed:
Clarice glances towards the school. "I'll see. I should meet the people in charge. I still haven't had a chance to do that," she says, nodding. Clarice smiles softly over to Andrea. "That would be nice. We can go out anywhere you want," she says, dropping her eyes a bit as she keeps that soft smile on her face. "I'll head in and see what is going on then. I'll talk you later about lunch, ok?" she says with a warm smile and a wave.

Rage has posed:
"Cool, I'll catch ya later then Claire bear." Andrea says with a grin as she picks up her guitar and shoulders it, then slips it to her back. "I'll be around tomorrow. Weekend. Got no plans."
