Bump in the Night
Date of Scene: 01 May 2019
Location: Greendale, Starling
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Black Alice, Sabrina Spellman

Black Alice has posed:
Greendale Woods on the last night of April in the dark of the woods.

There is a lot to be said for exactly how spooky any of the woods in the Pacific Northwest can be at night, let alone the Greendale woods with their standing stones and strange animals and noises.

It isn't like there is a bustling tourist trade. Who wants to come to the middle of nowhere Starling home of absolutely nothing publicly of interest right.

Despite those verifiable facts though tonight something distinctly odd is going on in the woods. it starts with a twang of magic out near the standing stones and then a staccato thump of it moving away form the standing stones. Two flavors of it really, one of them native to this part of the world and the other a bit more chaotic.

Black Alice needed something for a ritual in a book she acquired, through less than savory means, but still it was her book now. The ingredients were a 'small' cryptid and it actually recommended the Greendale Woods, being witches journal from these parts. What she got though was a decidedly unfriendly pair of devil monkeys, the basis for a cryptid myth in British Columbia. Agile. Hind legs like a Kangaroo. Good at dodging spell blasts. Proving to be a general pain in the ass.

Also distinctly not as small as the entry in the book denoted them to be.

So Black Alice is using a tree as cover, her clothing blended towards a disjarring mix of goth and monk robes right now and a golden spell disk in one hand, made up of runes and sigils floating in the air. "I just need to shave you. I don't need a kidney or a heart.. calm the hell down ok!" not that they speak english, though they do shatter a stump throwing it against her shield.

Sabrina Spellman has posed:
Greendale is a weird place on the most boring of days, but there's a natural inclination of oddity that raises in the air when May marches briskly on the scene. Sabrina was out in the woods collecting mushrooms, as she often did this time of year, when the shriek of an unfamiliar genus of monkey carries on the wind from further in the forest surrounding one of the standing stones. Beside her, Salem perks a little and then looks up at the teen wtich whom he was trodding beside with a raised cat brow, "Sounds like a devil monkey." The cat murmurs matter of factly.

Sabrina rolls her eyes at the cat and holds up her iron lantern in the direction of the sound, "Of course you know what a devil monkey sounds like." The teen says off handed as she starts towards Alice's location. "Sabrina, are you absolutely certain this is any of our business?"

Black Alice has posed:
Stupid Devil Monkeys.

Really that is all that is going through Alice's head right now. She isn't worried honestly about being hurt by these cryptids, not critically.

"I swear to god you do not want me to pull out a big gun and make you regret throwing stuff at me!" is what she shouts at them next, then she twists her hands and the disk in front of her turns orange as it blazes through the air, forming a tendril or whip that snaps out from both her hands now.

One of them misses a Devil Monkey and the other wraps around one. "Ahah.. .got you!" is the triumphant shout.

Which is cut short when she is forced to dive behind the tree to avoid a thrown rock. "God... damnit.. why does it need to be a living cryptid's fur... tree hugging... soft... witches..."

Sabrina Spellman has posed:
Sabrina's lantern is kind of a special relic. The light it cast isn't visible to anyone outside the light being cast, which makes getting around in the darkness a little easier for her, but also keeps her from stumbling upon some hapless hunter who might have questions as to why a teenager was out in the woods after dark with an armload of mushrooms and other such sundries.

It serves a secondary purpose here in that she can see what's going on, kinda, without being seen seeing what's going on. "Told you it was a devil monkey." Salem says in a hushed tone from a branch near where Sabrina is crouching watching the events unfold. "Do you recognize her?" Sabrina asks rather than acknowledging that the cat had, in fact, been correct. "She's not from the Academy is she?"

Regardless of recognition, the Devil Monkey certainly has no business here and it is to that end that Sabrina begins to lay out the hand motions to a containment spell while whispering words in a haunting echo of a voice born from somewhere elsewhere.

Black Alice has posed:
Black Alice is much too distracted with a pair of angry Devil Monkeys. Which aren't actually demonic but are magically enhanced cryptids none-the-less. She does not notice a talking cat, or another spellcaster, or the no light lantern off yonder.

"Okay enough!" and her spell whips fade as Alice stays behind the tree, even as her clothes fade back to gothwear. "Gone! Gone! --- The form of woman ! Rise, the Demon Estrogan" yeah okay it is definitely more than a bit punny, but the chant is effective as she borrows Jason Blood and Etrigan's schtick ... her clothes staying gothy but new cape as her visage goes actually demonic.

That might actually be startling enough to cause a hiccup in Sabrina's casting, then again maybe not.

Black Alice steps out from her cover, taller and deadlier now catching the next small boulder tossed her way in one clawed hand. "Devil Monkey you may be, but the only fiend from hell here is me!" and chucks it hard clocking one of them in the head and knocking it clear out.

Sabrina Spellman has posed:
Earlier this very day, Sabrina accidentally summoned the son of the devil who then rode off on a chariot pulled by demonic steed. She's accidentally summoned two Class IV demons observed by magical member of the JLA to critique and even once brought the Goddess of Death of Nordic lore to sleepy little Greendale.

A musical transformation is about as strange to her as an ancient warlock trapped in the form of a talking cat. Who, for the record, is even less startled. He does sort of point his paw in Alice's direction indicatively though, "You don't see that every day." Because you don't. Other, weirder, things? Sure, but not that particular thing.

"No you don't, now help me contain the monkey would ya? Before she smashes it with a rock." The spell fires off and while the Devil Monkey might well be agile enough to dodge a hex spell bolt, is it as quick to dodge a ward spring trap? Sabrina snaps to complete her spell.

Black Alice has posed:
Two Devil Monkeys down.

Fifteen to... okay no really there was only two.

Estrogan peers at the downed monkey and then over to the one caught so neatly in the ward spring trap. "A cunning trap that may be, the question is who cast thee." and as the demoness looks around it intones "The battle now is fought and won. Black Alice with me is Done." and the form collapses back to the young goth woman who is still looking around even as she walks over to the unconscious and ward trapped devil monkeys.

"Come on out if you're friendly.... I mean come out if your not so we can settle this and not have it take all night." crouching Black Alice flicks out a switchblade and looks the unconcious devil monkey over now, does she mean it serious harm, good question really if you didn't hear the part about hair or fur.

Sabrina Spellman has posed:
Sabrina slides out from behind the tree she'd been crouching against and holds up her lantern high above her head while whispering the incantation that removes the charm keeping the light from being visible beyond its border. "I don't know whether I'm friendly or not. I'm not inherently unfriendly, that's not in my nature, but I also don't know whether you're friendly to be friendly with... if that makes sense."

"It did not." Salem resumes cleaning himself, losing interest now that the immediate drama of the situation is over.

"I'm Sabrina Spellman." She calls out within the halo of white light. "That's Salem." Angling the lantern towards the black cat who shields his eyes with one paw in a distinctly uncatlike way. "Rude." Said grumpily.

"Who are you and why are you messing with Devil Monkeys?"

Black Alice has posed:
"It actually did make an amount of sense." she looks up from studying the monkey and then she reaches down and flattens it out and starts to shave a good section of the beast with the blade. No actual harm to the Devil Monkey beyond a very embarassing haircut that will get it mocked and ridiculed by it's devil monkey peers later.

"My name is Black Alice." which depending on the magical circles may have a bad reputation as a vigilante trouble maker with no good sense or morals. "Also I haven't seen a talking cat in a while.. familiar of yours? You a traditional witch of some sort?" a flick of the knife towards the containment spell. "Good spell by the way."

Alice will stuff the fur in a ziplock bag and then that into her pocket. "I'm trying a spell from an old witches journal. It said I needed Devil Monkey fur... it also did not say they were the size of a baboon..." she eyes the beast and nudges it with a foot "or kangaroo.. check out these hind legs.. eeeesh."

Sabrina Spellman has posed:
Sabrina rolls her eyes up to Salem who snorts when rebuked by Black Alice, "Well it didn't to me." Licking his paw and drawing it across one of his ears, "And that's all that matters." It isn't, of course, but he's a cat and has his own opinion on things.

As for the nature of feline and witch relation, "Something like that." She answers about whether Salem is a familiar, "I'm a half witch." Which is probably an odd thing to say, but this is Greenvale and things are a little different up here.

Sabrina trudges through the high grass towards where Alice has shaved the monkey and kneels down to give it a more thorough inspection, "I only know of a few spells that require that kind of ingrediant and none of them are particularly benevolent." Lantern held up like a cops flashlight to illuminate Alice's face, "You're not going to cast it in Greendale are you? That wouldn't be wise at all." For a number of reasons.

Black Alice has posed:
Black Alice lifts her hand to block the light shining into her eyes, at least hooding it partially. "I didn't even know there were half witches... I mean you do magic.. so are just a witch. Who cares whose side of the family the witchery came from?" okay yeah maybe things are odd in Canada "It sounds like some potter bullshit to me."

"I figured I would see if it actually can get the spell to cast. It is a bold claim to say it can sanctify a knife that can cut through to other realms." a slow shrug "But no I wasn't planning to cast the ritual here.. this was a devil monkey shaving field trip." there is a slow pause next "Why wouldnt it be wise to cast up here, I mean I saw the standing stones and now a half witch and her familiar.. this your turf?" a smirk "I mean I figured there were witches here... the journal is from a witch."

Sabrina Spellman has posed:
"I wouldn't say it's potter at all." It is entirely possible she doesn't realize exactly how potter it is, though. "The Academy of Night is in Greendale beyond the woods, protected by an illusion." She doesn't point her lantern in any particular direction to indicate which one leads to said academy, but she does lower it so that Alice need not shield her eyes. "They probably wouldn't be pleased by such a ritual being cast so close to their secret location, drawing unwanted supernatural and magical eyes to Greendale." Which is understandable.

Sabrina frowns a little, "Why would you need something like that, anyways? Wouldn't it just be easier to cross the barrier without cleaving a gash from which whatever was on the otherside could escape?" The journal is from a witch? "A witch from Greendale? Can I see it?"

Black Alice has posed:
"The Academy of Night.. okay that sounds like a school for witches and warlocks or something. Is it like High School or College for witchcraft?" yeah Alice is really amused, she can't keep it off her face or out of her eyes. Mostly because Sabrina said it wasn't potter at all.

"As for why I want to do it, mostly to see if the journal is legitimate. I would probably sell the knife though because I don't really need a knife to pierce the various veils between worlds.. there are plenty of spellcasters who can do that without needing a fancy pair of kitchen sheers right." and the final ask "Well I left it at the Sanctum but I could let you check it out sometime I guess. Your not going to try to knick it from me are you?"
