Dragonfly (Arazello) has posed:
Saturday afternoon and Nancy finds herself on the grounds of Brooklyn College. It's been a hard morning of tutoring some struggling students from disadvantaged backgrounds; the opportunity to enjoy the sounds and sights of the campus before hitting the cold streets of Flatbush and the empty townhouse she calls home is irresistable. Recalling her own student years at ESU she ponders the eternal mystery that is the irresponsibility of youth that somehow manages to learn between the parties and the other, less savoury, activities.
It is, thus, with startlement that Nancy is broken out of her reverie as she rounds a tree and comes practically face to face with Sebastian.
"Oh, Detective Greene!" she blurts out thoughtlessly. "I wasn't expecting to see you here."
Her face betrays the sudden dawning.
"You are Detective Greene, right?" she asks in a hasty attempt to cover up her botch. "We met at ... the precinct once? A couple of months back?"
It's not a very good cover story.

Sebastian (319) has posed:
When one spends time in Manhattan, despite it being a city of a million and some, it can over time begin to feel so small, so very small. It often starts with the places they frequent. Seeing the local neighbors, seeing the same faces you see on the bus or the subway. But it can reach so far off. Going to a play and meeting a co-worker, or running into an old school buddy at a restaurant. It really is a small town feeling at times in some ways. And other times... so very not.
Especially for an outsider like the man known as Sebastian Greene. He does at times meets friends at random times. 'Friends' that is, or people who knew the earlier version of Sebastian. Those times are never enjoyable. The pantomime, the facade. All rushed together.
But this time, at the uttering of her voice, albeit distant, his brow furrows. This person doesn't meet any of the memories that Greene had before. Nor does she meet any memories of the now. Almost immediately he becomes suspicious, but propriety... is all.
"I'm sorry, miss. I don't believe we have met?" His memory is rather good about such a thing, rather telling. But she can almost feel his eyes upon her, measuring, gauging, filing the data away. "But that is my name." Error.

Dragonfly (Arazello) has posed:
Anybody who's ever driven in down a country road in the autumn will recognize the expression on Nancy's face. It's the same expression that deer get when caught in the headlights. Quite involuntarily her body freezes, her eyes wide, her mouth open. It lasts only a moment, but a moment is an eternity when facing a trained and expert observer.
Her mouth closes with an audible clack of teeth.
"Oh, I'm sorry," she says, her voice artificially warm, her smile failing to conceal the panic in her eyes. "I must have made some mistake. Perhaps I've confused you with someone else."
All the hallmarks of looking for a path of egress are there: eyes flicking around the landscape between glances Sebastian's way. The flustered, flushed face. 'Fight or flight' is the mode and her choice appears to be 'flight'.

Sebastian (319) has posed:
The man's brow furrows, but there is an instinct there, it just pops to the fore. The instinct to arrest another being's discomfort even perhaps at the cost of a negligent untruth. So he lifts his eyebrows and gives her an awkward smile that is his attempt at sincerity. "It's not impossible you might have seen me at the station? And been directed to me?"
That's a possible out, right? But he then considers the various options someone would hail a known police officer out of the blue. So he steps towards her and holds up a hand. "But are you quite alright, Miss..." That last word hangs there, the sibilant lingering as he seeks her identity while trying to maintain that friendly helpful tone...
Even as around them various people are now shooting them curious glances, but little more than that.

Dragonfly (Arazello) has posed:
"Arazello," Nancy replies automatically. Then curses herself inwardly for not saying 'Smith'. Because, after all, 'Arazello' is such a common name... "And yes," she hastily adds, "I'm fine. I was just sort of off in a dreamland here..." That much appears to be true from her body language. "...and was surprised when I ran into someone I knew from elsewhere." True but ... incomplete. "And now, of course, I'm embarrassed by this huge scene I've stupidly caused." True ... but highly evasive.
She takes a deep breath, then lets it go as she forcibly relaxes herself. "Anyway, my tutoring is over; I should probably get off campus before I'm accused of ogling the guys or something. You know how the current political climate is!" She laughs, a bit of a high-pitched, forced, false one, at her lame attempt at topical humour. "It'd probably be best if we didn't meet in your professional capacity right?"

Sebastian (319) has posed:
Again he gives her reassuring smile offered to witnesses #5, then nods as she speaks, his eyes following her lips closely as she offers him her words. But it shifts slowly into rueful acceptance of embarrassment smile #2 which involves less lip action. He nods to her, "Well if you must go. Please don't feel upset for whatever reason, even though I am off duty it is one of the tenets of a police officer to insure that the public citizenry is sufficiently at ease with their representative enforcement staff."
He nods again as he steps back, "I'll just be on my way to the knowl... library." He offers her his hand, "Good to mee... see you again Miss Arazello."
Oh yes, that name needs examination, if only to see if his memory is failing in some capacity.
