Synopsis: Lois Lane and Vanessa bump into each other at a planetarium, and find out they have a friend in common.
Cast of Characters: Copycat, Lois Lane

Copycat has posed:
The New York City Planetarium advertised a special showing for the weekend. A Superman retrospective that would not only take a look at where Krypton had been in the galaxy, but would also show various images and footage of the man himself, along with some of the more normal fare about space and the objects in it.

Vanessa often has her days to herself unless she's working at the club, and so a trip to see the 2pm show doesn't interfere with her 'career'. She shows up in jeans and a sweater, and some cute boots that she found in a second hand store in one of the nicer areas of the city. Best places to find good deals since they tend to get donations from upper class people.

The Planetarium seating is pretty packed when she arrives. She finds a pair of empty seats and settles into one, setting her soda that she bought from concessions into a cup holder between the seats. She reclines back, looking up at the starscape that is showing overhead prior to the show starting.

Lois Lane has posed:
More fluff pieces. There's really no escaping it. Once upon a time Lois had been the first on the scene during the most propitious moments of Superman's career. She had been the reporter that everyone associated with the Man of Steel and the likely place to look for any breaking news about him. Now, in the wake of his death, she was the obvious choice to write the soft stories commemorating him. They weren't the things she wanted to think about or dwell on - she'd asked for any and every other assignment - but there was simply nobody else who would do these stories justice. Part of her knew that.

She's kept her press pass concealed, not wanting to make a big fuss about being 'press' at the show as she arrives. A simple black blazer, fitted jeans, and ankle-high boots make up her outfit for the event. She finds her own seat alongside Vanessa, settling down into it and immediately producing her cell phone. She flicks through it, brings up the notes app, and starts to thumb in what look to just be a series of letters but are in reality journalistic shorthand.

She doesn't so much as spare Vanessa a glance for the moment, instead peering around the room and taking in the audience gathered.

Copycat has posed:
A couple of kids are running around while their mother tries to show them back to the seats. Elsewhere people are settling in and waiting for the show to start. It's a fairly diverse crowd, though a little heavy on families. Probably a full quarter of the people are kids of some age.

Vanessa gazes up at the starfield overhead, the room partially lit so people can see to get to their seats, yet the starfield above can be seen. A shooting star crosses now and then. She takes a sip of her soda and sets it back.

"Never actually been to one of these," she comments to the woman beside her. Vanessa glances over at Lois. "I like the sound of them though. Not to mention, I am interested in what they have to say about Superman," she comments.

Lois Lane has posed:
"I've been in one," Lois admits, looking up from her phone finally to glance at the stars above, "But it was after hours and they were smuggling alien weapons out of the back room. So, you know, sort of the same but different."

Once more her eyes drop down to the cell, taking some more notes. At one point she even glances sidelong at Vanessa, and one could swear she's taking notes on how the woman looks and her overall impression. But if she is, she doesn't share it and pretty soon she's moving on.

"Big Superman fan?" she asks, conversationally.

Copycat has posed:
Vanessa's eyes widen and she looks over at Lois more closely. Perhaps trying to decide if Lois is being serious or just taking the piss out of her. "Get out!" she says, voice energetic if kept soft to not disturb others. "Really? Alien weapons? Like from the attack on New York?" she asks of Loki's failed attack on the city. "What happened with it?"

Vanessa glances back up at the starfield and says, "I suppose, as much as most which means yes. I don't have a tattoo though or a poster on the wall." She flashes Lois a little grin.

"What about yourself? What brought you out today? And if you say it's more of the alien weapon things, I'm leaving," she comments with a wry smile.

Lois Lane has posed:
"Something like that," Lois says with a slight lift of her shoulders, as though the point of the alien weapons wasn't really worth covering in great details, "It's always something now. Ever since we got superheroes. Far as I know about the weapons, the Avengers confiscated them or something similar. I was just there for the story."

When Vanessa asks her follow up question, Lois seems to tense a little. She doesn't say anything immediately, continuing to take notes on her phone as though maybe she hadn't heard.

"I'm just - uh, I'm a writer. I'm doing a story on how different people react to his loss in different ways. You know, page ten soppy staff after you've waded through all the actual news."

Copycat has posed:
"Sounds like something they'd have got involved with," Vanessa agrees about the weapons. "You know I met someone who works with them. He isn't an Avenger but he has healing powers, works there. I guess if anyone needs that kind of healing around, it's them, right?"

Vanessa takes a sip of her soda as she listens to Lois explain that she's a writer. "Oh, well, it sounds like a great job to me," Vanessa says, clearly not recognizing Lois. "It's sure gotten a lot of coverage," she agrees. "Really tough when someone that so many looked up to not only is taken, but in the way it happened, with how he'd changed," she says, shaking her head and sounding sad.

"You know, my friend is a reporter too. Television, though she does her own podcasts that are her real interest. April O'Neil. Are you familiar with her?"

Lois Lane has posed:
"I don't know any of them personally," Lois says with a shrug, "You know how they are. Living in mansions. Jetting off to space to fight some interstellar dictator nobody's ever heard of. I guess that's what made Superman different. He always felt connected. He's was just as present helping a kitten down from a tree as he was literally saving the world. You just don't feel that with the others, you know? It feels like they've all got their line that, beneath it, it's just not something they'd bother with."

It doesn't seem bitter, more like she is simply musing. Thoughts and feelings that she hadn't quite had a chance to express before they all came flowing out just now. But then she mentions a name that immediately draws her attention.

"April? You know April? We're friends. Good friends, in fact. I'm Lois. Lois Lane."

Copycat has posed:
Lois's musings comparing Superman to other heroes has Vanessa's full attention. The show still hasn't started yet, giving them time to continue talking without disturbing anyone.

"I really haven't met too many people like that. They all seem a bit... bigger than life? Even Superman. But then, yeah, I think I understand what you mean about him. I mean, just things I've read."

Vanessa sips from her soda, and finds herself wondering if people would consider the Turtles and their friends to be heroes. Or, just unusual. Possibly both.

Vanessa's face lights up and she replies, "Oh, you know here then!? Excellent. Yes, she's wonderful, isn't she? I've known her since... what was it? Early summer. May, maybe? She was a lifesaver. We became friends, and when the air conditioning went out in the slum that I call an apartment building, she let me crash over at her place during those hundred degree days we have," Vanessa says.

Lois Lane has posed:
"I saw her a few weeks ago, actually," Lois offers of April, "She was stopping by the Planet to use the archives. My boss doesn't typically like sharing them with anyone, even other D.B.C. employees - but I snuck her in. She was looking up articles on vampires of all things. Now, I'm kind of dying to know what she's up to since she's not exactly the sort to just start making up news or seeing goblins in her cereal."

Lois even deigns to put her phone away, tucking it into the inside pocket of her blazer and leaning back in the chair to stare up at the stars high overhead.

"What about you. Know anything about her vampire buddies?"

Copycat has posed:
Vanessa has a pretty pleasant demeanor, with large, expressive eyes and a charming smile. That demeanor slips though at the mention of vampires. Even as Lois is asking if Vanessa knows anything about her vampire buddies, it will be pretty apparent to someone with Lois' investigative instincts that Vanessa does.

"Just, that it's best to stay away from them. As far away from them as you can get," Vanessa says, her arms going about herself in an insecure body language. "Seriously, be happy with the page ten stuff in comparison," Vanessa says with a small frown.

"I need to talk to April then. Make sure she's not getting herself into trouble," Vanessa comments. She pulls out her phone for a moment, but then decides to think better of using it now, with the show probably not too far away from starting.
