Profile

An ex-firefighter, Jessica Ridgeway, who goes by the name Caliber, was discovered by GeniSet Labs due to her unique X-gene, slowly changing her to something far more mechanical than biological. ten years later, doctors Sheen and Lock of GeniSet Labs have based all their modern robotics on the synthetic structures that Caliber's body has made. The most notable of these are her Tech-Spheres, weapons made by the doctors for Caliber to use that double in function to allow her flight. Those that meet her will find a bold individual that runs toward crisis, not away from it. Her experiences as a firefighter prepared her for this. To protect people and to do anything to ensure those that can't help themselves are kept safe.

Description:

Once upon a time, Jessica Ridgeway lived near Denver, Colorado and worked for the citywide fire department. It was shortly after discovering she was a mutant that things quickly began to change. The first significant change was to her hair. Brown since birth, the woman's locks grew longer and lighter, eventually turning entirely white, cascading down beside green eyes.

As her mutation continued, and it was discovered by the doctors of GeniSet labs, they determined they could augment her slowly transforming body. As a result, her upper body and shoulders are enveloped in white armor with sky-blue trim with a black underlayer visible midway down her neck, below her shoulders, and along her midsection and legs.

At her back, another addition from the doctors are a pair of, what seem to be, balancing arms. In truth, these curved 'limbs' also assist in transmitting to Caliber's 'tech-spheres' which act as her primary weapons, and rest under these 'wings' when dormant.

At her lower arms, and lower legs, the armored frame returns with the same white and blue color scheme, exceptions being around her wrists and the base of her armored boots. A gap exists between the front and heel of these to allow her tech-spheres a location to lock in to allow her to ride, through the air or near the ground, it's her decision, as are most of her actions in life. After all, actions speak louder than words.

History:

"You will set the standard for modern robotics. If it doesn't match your caliber, then it isn't good enough."

-Dr. Edward Sheen

Life for Jessica Ridgeway was simple. Growing up outside Denver, Colorado, things weren't exactly exciting for her early life. After graduating, her interest in track and field paid off when she passed the tests to become a permanent firefighter for a precinct in Denver. At 18, she was sure that she wouldn't have to worry about all the talk about mutants and people changing, but she didn't know that her mutation was acting slowly, deep inside of her body. It took a painful injury a few years into her life to find out that she was different like many other people in the world.

Her skeleton had been the first thing to become synthetic. Metallic all through her body, a visiting doctor to the hospital in Denver discovered it was more than her skeleton that was changing. Dr. Sheen, a man interested in modern robotics and synthetic creations, peered deep enough to find that everything in Jessica was changing. Muscles, organs, even skin if one looked closely enough. For that reason, Sheen offered Jessica a chance to make a lot of money just for him and his associate, Dr. Lock, to be able to study what she was becoming in hopes to enhance the robotics of their lab. She accepted the offer only because she would be allowed to do whatever she wanted whenever they weren't inspecting her.

Now, 10 years have passed. Jessica has started to go by the name Caliber since so much of her has changed. Thanks to Sheen and Lock, she has armor, ways to defend herself, and even mingles in 'do-gooding' when she has the chance. The doctors never expected her to ever do this, but with their agreement set in stone, she's still allowed to do what she wants on 'off hours'. Sheen has always respected her, and her abilities, often trying to help her understand her capabilities better so she can help where she likes. Lock, on the other hand, continues to grow more and more agitated, seeing Jessica as more of a tool to be used than someone with her own goals and desires to be achieved.

Personality

Personality:

Something Jessica, or Caliber, has believed since her youth is that people are born with a certain amount of courage. This trait can grow over the course of their lives or it can be squandered on mistakes, never to be recaptured. For Jessica, she worked to grow it over time. To make friends with people considered outcasts by the 'popular' folk. She'd stand up for the nerds, the geeks, the goths, and the oddities. In a strange way, she ended up becoming popular, even respected as a result. Given such confidence, and her courage bolstered over her school years, no one was surprised when she did not consider school and began to prepare herself for the tests to become a firefighter in, or near, Denver Colorado.

Tests passed, and a year into her career, the 19 year old was familiar enough with the state of the world to keep track of the 'heroes and villains' that ran rampant across the globe. It was a pastime for her, keeping names, finding favorites, wanting to be a part of something greater, rather than seeing the aftermaths. She bore no hatred the 'heroes', hated the villains, rather typical, it felt to her. She wondered if she'd become one of their number, get the X-gene, have something change her so she could join them. She left school disappointed, truly beliving that the most likely way to obtain that, through the X-gene, had passed her over. When she was caught in an explosive backdraft and taken to the hospital, the doctors were stunned to find out her skeleton was metallic. She was just as stunned.

Thanks to Sheen, Lock, and GeniSet labs, she's living her dream. The courage she fostered in her early life, combined with the support of knowing GeniSet can easily tend to her injuries, sends her running toward conflict instead of away from it. She takes great satisfaction in protecting all people from those that would do them harm. Now, it seems that the 'oddities' she defended for so long are the normal people that have no powers. The 'popular' are the villains that would strive to take everything over out of greed. At least she isn't a child, she knows the world isn't black and white, and that is why she accepts the orders of both Sheen and Lock. She respects them both, even if their methods are VERY different from one another.

It is only in recent years that Caliber has started to wonder about her nature as a human being. With the mutation's work at converting her complete, it now is how she can self repair. Still, because of how she is fully synthetic, and how Dr. Lock has started to treat her, she wonders if she is merely a copy of the original Jessica Ridgeway, that something may have happened to. A perfect copy with her memories. She questions her own humanity, and is very sensitive to being asked about her nature as a mutant, and if she is a human at all. She may doubt, but other people doing the same will find she will turn angry very quickly if her nature is questioned. Similarly, those that are biased against mutants will find her anger aimed toward them as well.

When it comes to interaction on the grid, Caliber is someone that will fight anyone, or anything, if people are in danger. IN a world where heroes are everywhere, and so often charge in no matter the cost, she doesn't consider herself unique in that regard. She isn't better, she isn't worse, she just wants to -do-. Actions speak louder than words, and she wants to act whenever, and wherever, she can. Her capability to enter rp is just as simple. Are people in trouble? Yes? Act. Nothing else is needed to motivate her.

Abilities

Robotic Benefits:
With Caliber's mutation so advanced, she's able to be repaired and augmented as though she is simply a robot. She can eat or get re-supplied, she can sleep or she can recharge. With her synthetic inner workings, she also has heightened speed and strength, about double the human average.

Synthetic Mutation:
Born with the X-gene, Caliber didn't even realize she was a mutant until her teenage years were nearly over. Her mutation has slowly changed her organic body into a fully synthetic one. Metal bones, carbon-fiber skin, augmented muscle fibers, sharper senses, but with no real way to just turn it all off.

Tech-Spheres:

Created by GeniSet labs, the tech-spheres are a pair of circular hovering drones that are Caliber's primary weapon for fighting. They can wrap themselves in a shield to smash into people, use the same energy to fire at people, or arc electricity between the two of them. The same shields give the orbs some durability, able to take on a few strikes by gunfire or melee weapons before needing to recharge or be repaired. As the barriers are not damaging to the touch, Caliber often will stand on them for added agility or even flight.

Skills

Anything Goes:
Even with previous training and her slowly changing body, Caliber fights in a style that resembles more of a bar room brawl than any sort of disciplined fighting style. Even as she uses the tech-spheres as weapons, she'll also pick up anything at arm's reach to use as a weapon, make use of the environment around her, and do just about anything to find victory in a battle.

Crowd Control:
Due to the nature of the world, Caliber is also able to ensure crowds are dispersed and dealt with when it comes to them gawking at super heroes or stampeding away from trouble. Her mutation has allowed her greater ability in this field, able to project a louder voice and use her enhanced strength to not be overpowered by the masses.

Search and Rescue:

Due to her previous time as a firefighter, Caliber retains her training for search and rescue in dangerous situations: Fire, natural disasters, and collateral damage from battling powered individuals. She knows the signs to look for to find people and then to stabilize and remove from these situations safely and without further injury.

Resources

Augmentations:
Due to the years she has been studied at GeniSet, the lab will attempt to modify Caliber's body to make her faster, stronger, and more adept to the situations she gets herself into. These are the people that made her Tech-Spheres and endeavor to make more augmentations. These augmentations are temporary at best, things to use in future creations by GeniSet Labs.

Geniset Labs:

The scientific lab that has been studying Caliber's body as it has changed from flesh and bone to fully synthetic. As a result, this lab is a top competitor when it comes to modern robotics. Dr. Sheen and Dr. Lock are the owners of this lab and are the only two that work on Caliber regularly. This place is her home and base of operations, often receiving orders from the two doctors if she isn't already acting on her own.

Weaknesses

Electricity and Emp:
As Caliber's body has changed, both she and GeniSet Labs' Doctors discovered she does not handle electricity, magnetism, and combinations of the two very well. Either, or both, will severely hinder her abilities and will entirely turn off her tech-spheres and any augmentations she may be using at the time.

Still Human?:

As Caliber's body has changed, and she started going by her new name rather than Jessica Ridgeway, she has begun to doubt if she's even still human. The possibly that she is just a creation of GeniSet Labs, a copy of the original, haunts her in quiet moments. People that question her humanity will find her very sensitive to the question, instead turning to anger rather than rational thought about the question.
