Quote
"It was like sawdust, the unhappiness: it infiltrated everything, everything was a problem, everything made her cry - school, homework, the future, the lack of future, the uncertainty of future, fear of future, fear in general - but it was so hard to say exactly what the problem was in the first place." --Melanie Thernstrom, The Dead Girl

Description

Pale, Albino-like skin, raven-black hair, red eyes -- these are the immediate distinctions you see when looking at the woman before you. Other than the deep dark spots around her eyes, an illustration of exhaustion or permanent unrest, Moonbeam looks far from normal. She looks dead, and for good reason, because she technically is dead. Her height of five feet, eight inches and weight of one hundred and eight pounds are less impressive, however. Despite death, her size is proportionate for a woman her age and she looks relatively healthy. But, death. Moonbeam is not of the zombie sort and therefore does not come with an odor of decaying flesh, despite references.

History

Growing up in Los Angeles, California, Moonbeam was raised by the hippie elite. Her parents taught her that she could be anything she dreamed of, and Moonbeam wanted to be a star, just like every other kid on the West Coast. She was put through acting and modeling classes, practiced singing and dance, and did everything an aspiring actress did to improve her craft -- all before finishing high school. She was ready for the big time.

But, to her dismay, Moonbeam wasn't. She was constantly turned down throughout her college years, getting lucky with extra roles and commercial opportunities, but never the role of a lifetime. Moonbeam forced herself to work harder. Despite getting a college degree from Columbia University, in Fine Arts no less, she started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. His name was Chad Collinsworth and he was an actor.

They met in a bar in Hollywood and he offered to get Moonbeam a drink. That one drink led to another, and another, until the two of them were waking up the next morning in the same bed. He helped her to get her first appearance on a sitcom, and Moonbeam did well. Very well, in fact, after a couple months of screen time, the producers decided to invest in her and she would go on to star in her own show. It was a hit. But Chad was a jealous, dark man that did not like to be upstaged.

He invited her over for dinner one night and a glass of champagne was all it took. Moonbeam fell to the floor of his extravagant condo, lifeless. Chad got his hired help to get rid of her body, throwing it in a mausoleum and locking the gates. Days later, Moonbeam awoke at the manifestation of her mutant gifts, activating because of her death. Scared and confused, Moonbeam sits trapped inside the mausoleum, hearing voices and seeing visions, until someone comes to save her. The problem is: she's dead.

Personality

Moonbeam is full of resentment and turmoil because her life -- her career, her beauty, her wealth -- was stolen from her. Even worse, she is forced to witness it all in an unsightly body that is very different than what she is used to. This has created a bitterness towards almost everyone around her. She feels that some people are less deserving than herself many times. Confused as to what is happening to her, Moonbeam is convinced that her mutation is a curse and dislikes mutants in general, even though she is a mutant herself. There will come a time where she will accept her life for what it is, but the time is not now and she knows that.

Abilities

HEALING FACTOR
Moonbeam is able to rebuild her molecular structure from virtually any physical attack. It doesn't matter the amount of damage or destruction she sustains, even if reduced to a skeleton, she will always heal and return to her usual pale, ghoulish appearance.

Because her tissues are dead, it would take an hour to recover from being completely reduced to a skeleton, as strenuous work would not be required as it would for living tissue. Minor cuts, bruises, or lacerations recover within seconds.

If her entire skeletal system is destroyed, she will presumably die.

IMMORTALITY
Because Moonbeam is physically deceased, she does not require oxygen, heat, sleep, or any form of sustenance to survive. Toxins (such as alcohol, smoking, or poison) do not affect her. She does not age. Because her organs are essentially nonfunctional, Moonbeam also does not require food or water.

INTANGIBILITY
Moonbeam is able to "phase" through solid matter by shifting her atoms through the atoms of another object or by reducing her molecular density. She can use this ability to walk on air.

Moonbeam is able to remain intangible for thirty minutes. Thicker substances (such as vaults or adamantium) take longer to phase through and more concentration; other, thinner substances, will take a few seconds and a thought to phase through. If attacked, Moonbeam is able to shift into this form as quickly as she can will it so. However, if she is distracted, she will succumb to the attack.

Currently, Moonbeam is vulnerable to psychic attacks in this form.

LIMB MANIPULATION
Even if parts of Moonbeam's body is severed, she is still able to animate and control those parts. Offensively, she is able to transform her fingers into long, sharp talons (about 3"-4" from her fingertips) that can tear through flesh with relative ease.

NECROMANCY
Moonbeam can telepathically communicate with bacteria, cells, and the dead or disintegrating tissue of corpses. She can also communicate with dead spirits using their physical remains or channeling the communication through the spirit realm, the Astral Plane. Temporarily, she is able to resurrect the recently deceased as zombies or ghosts. Moonbeam is also able to telepathically retrieve images of deceased people from the minds of others.

Skills

ATHLETIC
Moonbeam has always maintained her physical attributes with eating healthy and regular exercise. After her rebirth, her physical strength developed to above-average levels, considering she is no longer affected by muscle fatigue and other toxins that would normally harm her. Because of her current state, however, Moonbeam will not gain or lose muscle mass. It is simply habitual exercise to make her feel normal.

DRAMA
Having studied theater for many years, Moonbeam knows her way around the art of drama. She is full of it herself, essentially, becoming a big 'Drama Queen' herself after her life flipped upside down. Still, she takes pride in her knowledge of the Fine Arts, having obtained a degree in the field from Columbia University.

MEDIUMSHIP
Moonbeam acts as a medium for ghosts or spirits. She can communicate and interact with them as she would a living being, but the living cannot hear or see them. While Moonbeam finds this skill mostly annoying, because the ghosts or spirits often taunt her, or ask for help when she does not wish to, she is naturally gifted with this skill since her rebirth.

Resources

GHOST & SPIRITS
The ghosts or spirits that Moonbeam comes in contact with can be used as resources in her time of need. Having a ghost or spirit haunt the dreams of another individual is merely a single example of this resource.

HOLLYWOOD
Despite her death, Moonbeam still has numerous email addresses, phone numbers, and other contacts from producers, directors, talent agencies, etcetera. Because of her death, it will be difficult to use them.

Weaknesses

CONTROL
Considering Moonbeam's power manifested recently, she has little control and no experience to help her understand the changes that have happened to her. This major drawback limits her potential. However, with assistance, she will one day be able to master her abilities with time.

EMOTIONAL
Emotionally, Moonbeam is not currently stable. She has gone from the top of the food chain to six feet under, and she does not know how to cope. If put in a situation where other people's lives were put in her hands, she would find some way to crush all hope for those lives because of resentment.

IMMORTALITY
While immortality to some may seem like an amazing gift, Moonbeam dreads the thought of living forever, especially with nothing for her to live for, and she believes it is a curse. Every opportunity Moonbeam finds to try and kill herself, she will take it just to be reanimated again.

PHYSICAL MUTATION
People that come across Moonbeam will instantly see that she is a mutant. This is both a physical and emotional weakness for her. Unless she covers herself well enough, or wears an image inducer, people will know.
