Profile

A Scottish-English Jew from London, Mickey Gaul got involved in the criminal life young, a product of poverty and injustice. He was an aimless drifter, suffering from depression, until he ended up in a London jail cell for an assault against a local skinhead rival. He would've stayed in a London dungeon for years, if the case hadn't reached the ears of a friend of the Jewish people, in the form of an Anglican chaplain in the prison. Mickey's record was cleared in exchange for joining the Israeli military machine, and devoting the best years of his life to defending the Jewish people abroad. Mickey tested off the charts in terms of his intelligence adaptability, athletic drive, and the cunning of his logic, his life in London's poor quarters finally paying off. Instead of being placed in the Israeli Defense Forces (or his choice, the Air Force, which was denied due the depression he suffered, the future control lever for the unit he was placed in eventually), he was placed in a Hayoth metahuman test project.

Hayoth, elite Israeli superteam, fields the operative Grin for corporate espionage in missions highly sensitive to Israeli interests. Born Mickey Gaul, of English descent, Grin wears his hair in a black lion's mane, with an intentional unclean shave around his long jaw and wide smile, a pair of made-to-order black sunglasses hiding his brown eyes with an electronic HUD unit installed in them. He's clearly of Jewish descent, with just enough Scottish in his face to make him appear brutish to the casual observer. He can occasionally be seen with a herbal cigarette, with a loud inhale and perfume cloud exhale indicating he's not inhaling, and his hair often drops around his temples in long bangs. His voice has a British accent, unlike most other Hayoth members, who grew up in Israel and have the proper brogue.

Grin wears a black suit and tie over a white shirt, with a green tie-band across the thin black surface of his tie, and a pair of green cufflinks on his wrists. A green watch is over his left wrist, an electronic unit present on the watch to track him in the field and feed back to his commanding officer. He wears a narrow black belt with a simple green buckle, leading into black slacks that end in a pair of black dress shoes. His build beneath the suit is narrow and flighty, trained to use Kapap combat fighting compatible with a pistol or knife.

History

Michael Gaul, referred to as "Mickey" by his friends, was born into poverty in London, the child of an ex-con cabbie and a con artist. His father a Scot and his mother a Jewish woman whose family had converted to Anglicanism several generations previous, his father raised him on hard discipline, and his mother raised him on games and tricks and levers to manipulate the system with. Placed in the worst grammar schools in the region by virtue of his parental background and the British social engineers attempts at keeping Mickey from escaping into a position where he might cause a major incident, Mickey was plied into the gang life and became an enforcer for a local gangster named Jackie G. Jackie was a man in Mickey's mold, having escaped his situation by virtue adopting the mobster lifestyle, and took Mickey under his wing.

The fascists of London took exception to Jackie G taking a Jew, Anglican or otherwise, under his wing, and began harassing Jackie. This was Jackie's plan, as the only thing that the London police hated more than organized crime, was the fascists fronts of the far right. Mickey killed a skinhead in a brawl, and was sent to prison, with Jackie's promises of Mickey becoming a trusted lieutenant when he got out in ten years. Mickey was seventeen years old.

In prison, Mickey quickly saw that he was in danger from all sides, even his own protectors that Jackie had directed him to playing for the guards. Mickey rapidly realized that Jackie G was an esteemed man because he played for the police, and that Mickey was meant to be a police agent in prison. Knowing that this meant betraying everything that his father and mother stood for, he sought the counsel of the Anglican prison chaplain. And Mickey was shocked when he was informed he had passed a test that few people of his kind, in their position, pass. Mickey agreed to become a military operative, having chosen a potential death over paternal ethics, regardless of those paternal ethics. Mickey was given a cleared record and rescued from poverty, at the expense of Jackie G's cop controllers going down at the hands of an MI5 investigation, before Jackie G himself was indicted.

Mickey Gaul was flown to Israel, and was tested by Israeli military instructors. Although his raw knowledge wasn't what it should be, he displayed high adaptability, logical abstractions beyond his years, and athletic perseverance. They also diagnosed him with depression. A special Israeli corporate advisor was called in, and he was cleared for Project Green, a proposed metahuman operative deployed to urban areas to perform espionage in corporate environments. Mickey was turned down for the Air Force, but his attempt had demonstrated the postulated profile for Project Green. Mickey wanted to fly.

Mickey was physically conditioned, received espionage training, business and economics know-how, computer systems manipulation, kapap hand and knife fighting, marksmanship and poisons, and finally, foreign languages school. The, Mickey was put through months of painful metahuman alterations to his genome, as he picked up Israeli culture in the closed Hayoth (Israeli metaforces) compound. The alterations gave Mickey the ability to bend space and time around him, allowing him to perform punches faster than the human eye, making incredible evasions, perform acutely precise martial arts maneuvers and make impossible gunshots, navigate buildings and cities with inhuman complexity, and even perform amazing acrobatic feats. He could land from mind defying heights by altering his weight, or move through firefights with superhuman sensitivity to his environment.

Mickey took the name 'Grin', Hebrew for 'Green'.

Personality

Grin is a depressive, sarcastic spy devoted to protecting those that have offered him redemption. He finds a great pride in his newfound heritage, and is brutal in the defense of Israel's interests, doing everything that is asked of him. He prefers to keep his mind active, as it keeps him from going into his own personal prison of fragile regret and self-loathing. On many levels, he has been plied into betraying his code of loyalty to his friends in London, betraying his father in the process of staying true to his father's ethics. His father was a former convict making his living as a regular joe, his mother a woman who preferred to cheat the system that cheated so many poor, and by staying true to the ethics they taught him, he's betrayed them. This is what made his profile so appealing to his recruiters, betraying his personal symbolism of friends and family in exchange for the ideas they represented. A man like that, will fight for an idea, instead of people. A man like that will die for his cause.

Grin is ever-shifting in his adaption, using logical insights that represent his desire to be free from all constraints and needs, and driving himself in his tasks like a man possessed. He's a cultural chameleon, the fact that Hayoth happens to keep them close to their chest being why he's loyal to them. As a Hayoth operative, he spends his free time around other Hayoth members, his default, civilian persona tempered by the moralities and personalities of his team mates. When he's in the field, he snaps into the street persona of those around him, while putting on the mask of a fearless urban operator. He kills carefully but often painfully, he's unafraid of making waves but he's careful where he swims, and he defaults to the persona of a soldier in his humor, the cruelest jokes coming from his mouth where it comes to those things he's least proud of. His appreciation for the sacred is limited to those things he's fought for.

TIMESPACE DIFFUSION
Grin has been metagenically altered by Hayoth to navigate through time and space with an unusual form of telekinesis and preternatural sensory ability. When Grin requires it, he can amplify his speed, strength, reflexes, and sensory complexity, striking hard enough to break metal, leaping across rooftops, dodging bullets, and performing rapid counters with Kapap and Krav Maga. He combines these skills with urban maneuver training, Israeli martial arts, marksmanship, knife fighting, computer sciences, and assassination methods like poisons and boobytraps. His bending of space includes altering his weight, to make his strikes harder, or make his landings softer, or performing aerial maneuvers after a particularly powerful jump. He can speed his descent, physically climb rapidly, swim with ease, and fracture brick, mortar, or stone with his legs and feet. It should be noted that this ability is only quantum displacement, it is not true 'time travel', nor is it manipulation of time. He can't move through time, stop it, turn it backwards or forwards, etc.

Grin is highly aware of business, finance, economics, and various codexes of behavior and terms within them, particularly in local cultures. If he doesn't know it already, he's often got the advantage of a briefing.

CODES AND CIPHERS
Grin is familiar with a distinct range of global intelligence codes and ciphers, mostly those from Israeli national allies, but also from rival nations, and various organizations that Israel either uses for intelligence or actively opposes.

COMBAT DRIVING
Grin is a highly skilled driver, and can operate a number of different vehicles, as well as hijacking, hotwiring, or rigging vehicles to work for him. Sedans, trucks, boats, and motorcycles are all within his range.

COMPUTERS
Grin is highly skilled with electronic, radio, and software espionage. Although he is merely a highly advanced user of computers without assistance, with Hayoth's help in the equipment department, most computer systems are within his grasp of cracking, altering, sabotaging, spying, or controlling.

KAPAP
Grin is a highly skilled Kapap fighter. Kapap, an Israeli martial art centered around conditioning, simplicity, and flexibility, features various concepts such as the gyroscope (moving feet while fighting), the push pull (moving an enemy in two directions with blows), the one-two (two directions involved in every strike or combination), the two Ts (the hips and shoulders), shapes of movements (linear, curve, triangle), and economy of motion (all movements are made with minimal fuss). There is no particular set of stances, forms, or motions, instead focusing on intense amounts of drilling with blows, pressure points, manipulations, locks, and interactions with weapons.

KNIFE FIGHTING
Grin is an adept knife fighter, using a standard Kapap knife in his combat movements. His knife fighting is meant to be paired with Kapap, and although he prefers the Kapap standard issue knife (featuring a round grip, a round hilt stud as a pressure point jack, a serrated blade as a pressure surface, and a curved tip for slashing), he can adapt to others.

Grin speaks English, Hebrew, Yiddish, Arabic, and Spanish.

MARKSMANSHIP
Grin is trained with pistols, assault rifles, and explosives. A skilled marksman unaided, his metahuman abilities make him incredibly dangerous. His reflexes and speed enhancement can allow him to make snap shots from moving positions, and he can slow his perception of time while remaining in standard quantum space, to stay still for long periods of time, for guerilla war and difficult sniper shots.

URBAN MOVEMENT
Grin grew up in the criminal scene of London, and was trained by professional spies. He is a master at navigating urban areas, and often has the aid of a Hayoth operator with maps, electronic and huma intelligence, and computer intelligence assisting him.

Hayoth outfits Grin with a full supply of equipment per mission, including firearms, ammunition, explosives, melee weapons, special equipment, computer logistics, navigation devices, vehicles, and safehouses.

HAYOTH
As a member of Hayoth, Grin has full backing of the Israeli metahuman project and their support technicians, as well as their teams, their intelligence, and their national allies. He does not, however, give out orders, and is merely an operative.

IDENTITIES
Grin has a number of different identities, and is capable of ghosting into the system.

ALIEN
Grin finds himself out of place everywhere, from betraying his role models in favor of the ethos they taught him. He feels completely alone in the universe, and will often do something simply for the experience of having tried it.

ANTI-SEMITISM
Grin is forced into the issue of anti-Semitism, being an agent of Israel.

CHAMELEON
Grin shifts into different personas wherever he is, and on a long deployment, he often ponders the nature of his true identity, compounded by his shift in backgrounds between his teen years and adulthood.

DEPRESSION
Grin suffers from depression, often descending into lethargy when not given a task which gives him a sense of purpose.

DISPLACEMENT LIMITATIONS
Grin, despite being able to sieve through time and space, reflexively adapt to his surroundings with rapid precision or slow focus, and alter the strength of his strikes or the shallowness of his weight for landings, has limitations. He still needs to breath, can make himself sick if rising too rapidly through the water from a depth, or he can be caught by a skilled planner that knows his abilities - a shallow landing doesn't do anything good if he lacks the weight to stay standing on low friction material. In addition, by striking hard, he can potentially hurt himself, as he has speed and power, not invulnerability or enhanced muscle.

FOREIGN ENEMIES
Whomever is Israel's enemy, nationally, is Grin's personal enemy.

HAYOTH
Grin is a servant of Hayoth, with the threat of being hunted internationally for betrayal. Moreover, he owes his freedom, his life, and his abilities to them, and they know the psychological triggers to control him. He's no superhero; he's a quiet hand of espionage, and he may find himself sacrificed some day.

MENTAL AMPLITUDE
As a result of Grin's powers, he has a closer neurological relationship to relativity. His five senses can become overloaded when displacing himself in the quantum time-space materia, such as being blinded by bright lights, being gagged by odors, feeling pain in particularly grievous manners, being confused by loud noises, or having his tastes amplified. His adrenaline levels peak easily, and he can often resemble a psychotic personality when in the heat of a difficult situation while inducing his powers, as well as having to deal with mental limitations on the data that he's processing being too rapid or spatially abstract for him to process safely. The final drawback combines with his history of depression to make him overstretch in the field.

SPITEFUL
Grin is spiteful, vengeful, and bitter, with humor that is often macabre and nihilistic. He's socially abrasive, even to his comrades in Hayoth.
