Quote
"It isn't how mutants are different that scares people. It isn't our powers. It's how we are the same that scares them. Because really, we're all evil. All it takes is someone pushing the right button to push us over the edge. People know that if someone pushed our button, they wouldn't be able to stop us. And that's their button."

Profile

Theo doesn't like people. Not generally speaking. He's never been good with them, and he's never wanted to be good with them. He doesn't particularly want his mutation, but there's little point in complaining about it. Pragmatism, it's the only way to survive in his book.

Description:

A mop of brown hair, unclearly styled. This is what most people would first notice about Theo. Standing at an unimpressive 5'7", he is a bit on the scrawny side, with light remaining freckles that make him even less imposing. But what he doesn't have in physical features, his rather determined eyes make up for. There's the look of a calculator behind those brown orbs, someone who has a judgmentally critical evaluation of his surroundings and the people that inhabit them.

He wears a baby blue polo that fits him, but it would look better if he had put an undershirt beneath it. He didn't. His khaki shorts aren't terribly out of style, but they certainly aren't winning any fashion awards, and his legs, not all that remarkably hairy, are also not all that remarkably strong looking. He looks fairly ordinary over all, not the sort of person that would turn a lot of heads.

History

History:

Theodore Fegenbush III was born to his father of the same name, and wife Martha. They had a quiet life in Manassas, Virginia. He made a decent living, or would have, except that they had eight children.

Theo was born fifth of that clan, and was the only boy. Naturally, he got some extra attention, though he also needed it. His social skills never were the best, and while it was clear from a young age he was highly intelligent, he was also a bit OCD. He was given a scholarship to a private Christian college, which meant his education was able to excel, though his family was not particularly religious, and he spent most of his time after school hanging around the railroad where his father worked as a mechanic.

Theo's family was not as well off as most of his peers, and he would frequently get in fights over his family's status. Theo wasn't the strongest, and usually lost those fights, but he did get to where he was able to take a beating, even if he couldn't dish one out, and learned to win battles through wits more than through brute force.

His one true friend was a young man named Kyle, who was a preacher's kid. The two weren't all that similar, but Kyle always had Theo's back, to the point that when Theo's mutation was discovered, it was Kyle that kept him alive.

The small town had never had a mutant, at least, not to their knowledge, but when Theo was fourteen, the sentinels were introduced. Unknown to anyone, Theo included, his dormant X-gene was like a homing signal for the sentinels, because his power was that of a technopath. The sentinels detected him from much greater ranges than most mutants, and three of them soon arrived at his family's home. Kyle had been spending the night when they arrived, and as they announced their presence, it terrified young Theo. The manifestation of his power wasn't even perceptible, but through the stress of the even, Theo began to hear...noises. The sentinels perceived him as a threat, and they unleashed their firepower on the home. Kyle managed to get Theo out of the house as it was destroyed, with Theo's family in it. His mother and youngest sister survived, but everyone else at home was killed. The trauma of the event released what could be best described as an EMP, frying the systems of the sentinels, though all Theo knew was that they stopped chasing him.

Kyle's family could see the way that the political sphere was developing around the sentinels controversy, and rather than risk Theo to more danger, they helped him go into hiding.

The only problem was, none of them knew any other mutants. Theo found himself isolated, and to protect Kyle's family, he ran away, heading south, as far from the sentinels as he could. For the next two years, he was on the run, searching the internet for ways he could find refuge and help. He didn't know it, but his powers were active, and benefiting him, as he started to trace signals and IPs back to New York City. Now that the sentinel threat is gone, he's made his way to Westchester, certain that somewhere in that town, there's a support group of some sort for mutants. Now all he has to do is actually find it.

Personality

Personality:

Theo isn't a people person. He's not generally friendly, and doesn't do much to go out of his way to make other people like him. It isn't that he hates people, he just...doesn't get them. He most often does not do things that would endear him and make friends, like ask how someone's day is going, or offer condolences. He tends to be very mathematical, methodical, and cold. His opinions are usually known, and those he has an affinity for might find him awkward in the way that he expresses it.

Oddly enough, Theo has a certain fear of mutants, even though he is one. Most of the media that he's seen has given him cause to be very wary of other mutants, since the ones that are reported on most frequently are the ones that hurt people.

Abilities

Genius:
Theo is truly gifted in the IQ department, settling in at 164 IQ, he is in the top 0.0003% of the population regarding intellect, putting him on par with some of the greatest minds on the planet. This isn't the same as having knowledge, which is something he is still in the process of gaining. He can learn quickly and develop new ideas at a remarkably fast rate, and is able to retain much of that information. It doesn't mean that he can't be outsmarted by someone with a lower IQ than him, and he recognizes that. Being smartest doesn't guarantee you are never outwitted, just that the odds are usually in your favor if all things are equal.

Human Battery:
As long as he's physically touching the object, Theo can charge devices that require a power source, or at least use his own body electricity to power them if they have no battery. He can NOT use this to attack another person, but he can use it to fry an electrical device by sending power through a portion of a device directly which should not directly receive electricity.

He can power smaller devices such as phones, laptops, and lightbulbs, and most things that can run on a 120V wall outlet. However, stronger devices such as a washing machine, a car, or the Iron Man suit would be beyond his ability to power. He could theoretically charge more powerful devices, but it could take him several hours, depending on the necessary power to charge the battery. So he could in theory help charge a car battery over time, it'd just take him a little while.

Software Technopathy:
Theo is able to dive into networks and bypass simple security settings like passwords, but anything that requires a competency in algorithms or advanced security sy systems he will find himself outmatched by.

Alien interfaces, of course, he would be unable to manipulate until he learns how it is operated. If someone were to talk him through operating software or navigating its inner workings, he could manage, just as if someone showed a person normally interfacing. He can maintain his control on a device as long as a person normally would be able to comfortably interact with whatever he is controlling. For instance, he could control a car with proper computerized software for as long as he could drive it. He can operate a computer just as easily. If Theo is mentally exhausted, his decline in control can cause mistakes and errors. He can only operate one device at a time.

Techno-Feedback:
Given his ability to communicate with machines, there is a certain carryover in the nature of his power with those of telepaths. While he is not a telepath, he can fight back with his own power if he knows they are there. He can't detect a telepath's presence any more than anyone else, but if they make their presence known, he can send create a feedback loop with his own power This isn't technically something he DOES to the other person, but something he does to himself. It's like putting a microphone next to a speaker, but in your mind. It can cause massive mental pain to anyone connected to him, and deeper they are in his mind, the more painful it will be. The downside? Well, it feels the same way for him, so he's only likely to use the trick in emergency situations to get someone out of his mind.

In addition, if he is around many machines, the telepath will have to sort through the constant roar of other noises in his head. While that may not be a problem for experienced psionics, those who do not have a good grip on the practice may find his mind a confusing cacophany of noise.

Technopathy:
Theodore has power over machines. Whether electronic or mechanical, he can control machines with his thoughts. This is still a very elementary ability in its early stages. He has not nearly tapped the power for what it is worth. To control a device or machine, Theo must be within 40 feet of the subject. He must also have at least a basic understanding of how the technology works in order to utilize it. For example, he can operate a car because he has a general understanding of how cars work, but he would not be able to operate a space shuttle, because he has no idea of how space shuttles work, and his attempts would be akin to someone randomly pressing buttons, who knows what he'd end up doing. Ultimately, though, if electronics of any sort are used in the control of a device, it is theoretically possible that he could manipulate it, assuming he learned how.

Technotelepathy:

Theodore is able to instinctively know what a machine is processing. Right now he can only understand one machine at a time, and it must be either within 20 feet of him, or connected to a machine that is within 20 feet. For mechanical devices such as cars, this means that he can understand exactly what function a car is performing even if he cannot hear the engine shifting gears or see the parts moving inside. For electronic devices, such as computers, this means that he knows exactly what functions a computer is computing. He knows what program a computer is trying to open or prioritize, and if he focuses closely, he can give fairly good detail on how the process is coming along. In order to know beyond the general details of what a computer is doing, he needs to be fairly undistracted. If someone is talking to him or he is listening to music, he will not be able to use this ability. For sentient computers, such as androids or cyborgs with technology enhanced brains, he can presently hear the surface thoughts of the synthetic beings, but if there are guards against such things, or the being tries to resist at all, he can be easily blocked.
In addition, he can detect the presence of any electronic or electric device that has any sort of power within 120 feet. Whether he wants to or not.

Skills

Computers:
Most of his education at this point has been self-taught. He knows that his powers revolve around electronics, and has found that he can interface without a console with them. In a diligent effort to use this to his advantage, he's started to self-educate, and is currently at an above average user level of computer competency.

Survival:
Maybe not quite as expected as some of his other skills, Theo has always actually enjoyed being away from technology, a certain opposite to his power's nature. As a child, he and his father would spend time camping as Father/son getaways, spending a week or more sometimes backpacking, hunting, or other similar activities. For this reason, he actually is quite capable of surviving on his own, something that became very useful during his two years that he survived alone before seeking out others like himself.

Trains:

It doesn't sound like the type of skill that a Technopath would focus, but Theo is completely, and totally, obsessed with trains. It would be a serious challenge to find a train that he's not familiar with, knows the history of, and even can tell you the background regarding its creation.
In addition to this, he is able to effectively work on trains, having gleaned a great deal of knowledge hanging out at the railway with his father. If you want him to geek out about something, talk about a train. He won't shut up for an hour.

Resources

Phone:

Theo has a two year old smart phone. It's all he really owns. His powers have allowed him to use it without proper service, though any phone calls or messages that he sends come from an error in the identity area of other devices. Not scrambled or hidden, just as an error.

Weaknesses

Family:
Theo's family was killed in a sentinel attack. By itself, that has left him traumatized and feeling very responsible. While his mother and youngest sister Abigail survive, he has not the presence of mind to contact them, uncertain how they would respond.
In addition, two of his other sisters still survive, who were old enough to have moved out of the house. Mary, his eldest sister by six years, is married and living in New Jersey, the other is Rebekah, the black sheep of the family. Rebekah is four years older than Theo, and...no one is really sure what happened to her. She ran away with a biker gang at 16 and hasn't been heard from since.

Noise:
While Theo can detect electric and electronic devices around him and that's grand and all, he can't turn OFF the power. He always hears them. It can be very distracting, and when you are getting information from objects that are connected to the internet, it can be even more distracting. This has caused him to have a level of insomnia, and he has trouble getting proper rest at times.

OCD:
Not in the purest sense, but Theo has trouble with things that are not in order. He is not a germaphobe, but when working with information, he keeps his workspace and environment orderly, and becomes very angry when people upset his process.

Signal Loss:
Just like with regular wifi, bluetooth, or other signals, significantly dense or reflective materials can block Theo's powers, and something like a faraday cage would make the object completely invisible to him.

Socially Inept:
Theo isn't good with people. He is not someone who is likely to win anyone over by a fantastic speech, or convince his enemies to make peace with him. He lacks social graces and usually manages to find a way to offend people unintentionally.

Weak:

Theo is hardly the most hardy of specimens. While he is rather resilient physically, he isn't strong, and not particularly agile, either.
