Profile

Marrow was a child when the Mutant Massacre occurred, saved from the fate of her people by sheer luck. Perhaps not so lucky but cursed. She found herself on The Hill, forced to fight simply to survive. Now back with her fellow Morlocks in the NYC sewers, she has a chip on her shoulder the size of Manhattan. And a serious hate for humans as well as some X-Men.

Description

Description:

She's tall, standing at six feet even. Her body is muscular and toned, without being overtly bulky. All lean muscle. Her hair is auburn and worn short, often looking like it was cut haphazardly instead of styled. Her eyes are blue.

There are exposed bones at various parts of her body, if she isn't wearing something to conceal them. They grow out of her skin randomly and may change from one meeting with someone to another.

Her clothing is almost always second hand. Sometimes it fits properly, sometimes not so much. She likes to dress so she is able to move easily. At times she will use a hoodie to try to conceal her appearance when trying not to draw attention.

History

History:

Sarah started life in the sewers of New York City, born to a Morlock woman. She had her powers from birth, both the rampant bone growth and her ability to see the kindness in people. She had a happy childhood, playing with other children as she grew. She knew there was an Upworld, something else where the pretty people could live. It was spoken of like a Utopia and maybe someday they would be taken out of the sewers and be able to join that world.

She thought the day had come when the Angel was brought down. Then the Bright Lady arrived, to take the angel away. She fought Callisto, the leader of the Morlocks, and won. This made the Bright Lady their leader. Sarah was positive that the Bright Lady was going to take them to Upworld to live with her and her people. Only, it was not to be. She left them behind. She did nothing to help them or lead them. Sarah was disappointed to say the least, the first nuggets of resentment in her mind.

When she was about five, the monsters came. They were called the Marauders and their purposes was to kill all the Morlocks. Which they seemed to enjoy. In the ensuing conflict, a wall collapsed atop Sarah's mother, crushing her. She managed to get the attention of an outsider, one who didn't seem to be part of the Marauders. Her mother asked him to take Sarah to safety. He did and her mother died without her getting to say goodbye. She was turned over to the police then child protective services.

Despite her youth, she ran away, back to the sewers where the few Morlocks left alive remained, including Callisto who took on the care of Sarah. Then the flood came, which when it was over had taken them somewhere else. This place was horrible and dark and full of violence. At first, they were at the top but then she was cast out, thrown to the bottom of The Hill and forced to fight her way back up, to prove she was worthy. And fight she did, becoming an expert. Taking out those who would kill her. Clawing her way to the top of the heap until she was the deadliest of her people. A warrior created in the bowels of hell. The leader of the more violent members called Gene Nation. She took the name Marrow, leaving Sarah behind.

Yet, Callisto managed to save her people, to take them away from that place and bring them back to N.Y.C. Here they have returned to the sewers, rebuilding and trying to just live their lives. Though Marrow would love to strike out at the world above, she respects her adoptive mother's wishes and leaves them alone. For now.

Personality

Personality:

To the outside world, she is basically feral. She is not one to worry about niceties and politeness. She doesn't see the problem with violence and killing. She doesn't know manners and probably wouldn't to show them. She resents and even hates many groups of people, especially those who look down on the Morlocks or have failed to help them (in her eyes). She says what she thinks. If it hurts feelings? Too bad. Marrow isn't very nice, unless someone is a Morlock or like her people.

With her people, she is giving and caring, willing to do whatever necessary to help them. She will give the shirt off her back, figuratively and literally, if one of her people needs it. She sees herself as their protector and will do everything in her power to keep them safe. Including kill those who threaten her people.

Callisto is leader of the Morlocks and a maternal mother-figure to Marrow. She respects and loves the leader of their people. It is only Callisto who can keep Marrow and her violent tendencies in check. She simply has to ask and Marrow will obey, as much as it might annoy her. If something were to happen to Callisto, it would be very bad for the world that Marrow hates.

Abilities

Bone Growth:
Marrow's body grows extra bones. These grow out from her normal skeleton at an extreme rate. These bones have no room inside her body and break out through her skin. Thanks to her regeneration, she heals as quickly as they break through. Once these bones have reached their full growth, they need to be removed from her body (or they may come out on their own depending). These can then be disposed of or kept to use as tools. These bones are stronger than normal bones. They are stronger than hardened steel. Bone weapons she wields have been able to break steel weapons wielded by others, such as swords and knives. They can be damaged by other weapons made of her own bones and stronger metals such as adamantium and vibranium. She does not suffer a lack of calcium from the extra bone growth. This power is not controlled and the bones grow in random patterns outside of the Bone Weapons listed in their own trait.

Bone Weapons:
Marrow cannot consciously control the bones that grow out of her body at this time. She cannot force them into specific shapes. Her body often has larger bone structures that grow out of her back. These often are bladed when they are pulled from her skin, like a dagger or a sword. This is an unconscious control of her power in that she does create these edged weapons so that they will be available to her in life threatening situations. She has no idea that she is causing it and has no way to tap into that to create one on demand at this point. There are usually at least six to eight of them available, though once she uses one, it does take about a week for that one to grow back in fully once more. These weapons are stronger than hardened steel.

Enhanced Physicality:
Through a combination of her regeneration and bones being stronger than hardened steel, Marrow has a lot of enhanced physical traits. She is at peak physical levels in strength, reflexes, agility, stamina and durability. She can lift up to a ton and hit with that level of strength if she chooses. She can react faster than any human to threats, though she won't be dodging bullets. She is agile and able to perform acrobatic maneuvers, helping her in combat as well as when practicing parkour. She can function at peak levels for up to 48 hours before she has to rest. Her durability is particularly high since her bones are more resistant to being damaged. She has been slammed through walls, taken mace blows to the head, and kept going without any apparent injury thanks to the combination of her body healing rapidly and the bones being resistant to damage.

Pain Tolerance:
Since she was an infant, Marrow has had bones growing at an advanced rate in her body. They grow through her muscles, organs and skin randomly. This causes extreme pain at all times, in addition to the ache of the bones themselves as they grow at an accelerated rate. Due to having lived with this so long, to her it is normal. Thus, she has an extreme high pain tolerance, on the verge of supernatural levels. Wounds that would take other people out of a fight are a mere inconvenience for her.

Redundant Organs:
Her body is designed to compensate for the rampant growth of bones through her system. Since these bones can sometimes go through organs, rendering them unable to function properly until the bone can be removed and she can regenerate the damage, she has redundant systems built into her organs. Basically, she has two of everything. They are smaller than the normal organs, one being primary and functioning while the second is a backup if the first is rendered incapable of function. She has two hearts, two brains, two livers, two spleens, etc. However, organs that are already pairs do not have extras. So, she only has two lungs, two kidneys and so on. If one of those organs stops functioning, the other picks up the duties until the injured organ repairs itself.

Regeneration:
Marrow has the ability to regenerate or heal from wounds at an extreme rate, much like Wolverine. If she did not, the bones growing through her body, injuring organs at times, and growing out of her muscle and skin at random spots would leave gaping wounds. As it stands, as the bones grow out, the skin around them heals instantly, leaving no blood or other such complications. With this regeneration, she can heal from small cuts instantly, larger cuts or bullet wounds within minutes, and extreme wounds within a few days. She may even be able to regrow a limb if removed. However, she'd rather not test that theory.

Sense Goodness:

An ability of Marrow's that has been lost in time is her ability to sense the goodness in people when she sees them. It is like a glow around them which she can see, much like an aura. Unfortunately, by the time she had been taken to the Hill, this power was already fading. At this time, this power does not work. Perhaps it has atrophied from lack of use or perhaps it is blinded due to her anger and rage toward the world outside her people.

Skills

Combat:
Marrow uses bladed weapons, be they her own bone constructs or normal metallic ones created by people. She is skilled with a sword, able to take on those trained with such weapons and often come out on top. She isn't the best in the world but she could take even a professional fencer or your typical Hand members. However, put her against someone like the Swordsman? She'll be beaten though she might hold out a few seconds. With a dagger, she is equally dangerous and pretty much anything in between.

She also is an excellent hand-to-hand fighter, her skills less professional training in a dojo and more street fighting and needing to survive. She was trained on The Hill, which meant if she lost, she died. She became the greatest fighter there, her skills of the highest caliber. Don't expect her to know the name of a Jiujitsu move but she might use them if they are something that she has encountered in her years of training. It won't be pretty, and she does fight dirty. In Marvel terms, she's a 6 out of 7 possible in fighting.

Hunting:
Marrow is a skilled hunter, of any kind of prey. This can be something to cook for dinner in the Morlock tunnels or hunting a human that she wants to torment. She usually utilizes thrown blades when she is hunting animals. She also has experience setting snares and traps.

Parkour:
Marrow doesn't necessarily know what it is called but she is an expert at parkour. She will use the fastest route possible to get from point A to point B when necessary. This can included acrobatic maneuvers such as flips, leaps across long distances, climbing buildings, etc.

Survival:
Living in the sewers then the Hill then back to the sewers, Marrow knows how to survive with a minimum of resources at her disposal. She knows how to find food, make a fire, create a shelter, get fresh water by finding it or creating it through various processes, etc. She can survive in both urban and rural settings with nothing but her wits and the clothes on her back. With her regeneration power, she is able to survive even in some climates that might be deadly to a human.

Thrown Weapons:
Marrow is an expert at throwing bladed weapons specifically, although this translates to being able to throw other things with the same level of expertise such as darts or baseballs. She can hit a fast moving target and often uses this as a hunting method for small animals. Obviously it can be used for combat as well.

Tracking:

Out of all the Morlocks, perhaps Caliban and Callisto may be the only trackers better than her. Marrow is able to track prey in both rural and urban settings. Picking up on the smallest of details and able to use it. Obviously if there is no trace, there is nothing available to use but there are often things people don't notice, particularly in an urban setting.

Resources

Morlocks:
The only resource that Marrow has is her people. This includes both the Morlocks, and the more violent members of them who call themselves Gene Nation. Marrow is leader of Gene Nation. However, Callisto is leader of the Morlocks and a mother figure to Marrow. Out of respect for Callisto, Marrow keeps Gene Nation from acting out as they might. The Morlocks forage for everything, be it food or resources. Sometimes they will steal. Sometimes they will use homeless resources such as soup kitchens and shelters where they can obtain items that are given to them. She can rely on her people to help her and she is a resource for them as well.

Sewers:

Marrow was raised from infancy in the sewers of New York City with her fellow Morlocks. As such, she knows them like the back of her hand.

Weaknesses

Blocked Power:
Originally, as a child, Marrow had the power to see the kindness inside of people. Unfortunately, after the Morlock Massacre, this particular power began to dull due to being colored by her own viewpoint and attitude toward those who did the deed then later by her upbringing on The Hill. Her anger and rage have dulled this power to the point it doesn't work at all. It is unknown if she will ever gain access to it again.

Bone Growth:
Marrow's power is uncontrolled at this point. Her bone growth happens without any urging by her, and she can't choose where bones grow or develop. They just do. They grow under her skin, through organs, through her skin, and so forth. She can remove them from her body easily enough when they reach a certain point. Well, as easy as it would be to pull a bone out of your flesh. But sometimes bones that aren't quite ready but can be removed as well, though this leads to more pain and damage to her flesh than normal. They also can puncture organs, leading to her secondary sets or second organ coming into play to keep her alive.

Constant Pain:
Marrow is in constant pain. The bones that grow out of her body have no care for the skin, muscle, organs, that they might puncture. At any given time, she has bones ripping through, forcing their way outside of her body and thus, she is always in pain. It would be completely debilitating for anyone that hadn't been dealing with it since birth. Her regeneration keeps it from being a horrific mess and keeps her alive but that doesn't make it not hurt. It always hurts.

Her Faith:
Being raised as she was, her religious upbringing wasn't quite the same as the outside world. Additionally, she was exposed to Warren Worthington, as Angel, twice in her life. Those times have colored her understanding of aspects of religion she already knew and in her childish mind at the time, she equated him to a god. To the point she sees him as one, has small angel idols she uses for prayer, and so forth. He is above them all, someone to be worshipped, and not a regular person in her mind.

Humans:
She has an actual hatred of humans to the point she doesn't care if they live or die. After all, they've never cared about the Morlocks. She would be glad to wipe them out, but Callisto keeps Marrow's hatred from spilling out into the extreme violence it could.

Morlocks:
From childhood, Marrow has lived with the Morlocks in the sewers below New York City. A people apart due to their extreme mutant traits or appearances. They just found it easier to hide than deal with the reactions of the outside world. She grew up in this world. They are her people, and she loves them, is proud of them, feels they deserve more than the hand they have been dealt. This can be a weakness because she is emotionally invested in them and their welfare. Threatening them can draw her rage but also can be used as a tool against her.

Resentment:

Marrow resents the outside world. She resents the X-Men and their 'pretty pretty' members. She resents Storm, the bright lady, the one she thought would lead them out of the sewers when Marrow was still a child. She resents mutants who can pass as human, considering her own people are not so easily accepted by the outside world.
