Michael Westen was a covert intelligence operative, who had worked with and for a variety of agencies, including S.H.I.E.L.D., before being burned by the Central Intelligence Agency. His bank accounts seized, his assets frozen, Michael was cut off from all of his contacts and flagged on every government list; a spy's worst nightmare. He was deemed unreliable for any one of several reasons. He had been disavowed. At first, he was kept "on ice" in Empire City, New Jersey, but now can travel freely again.

Sam Axe, a former Navy S.E.A.L., and currently semi-retired trouble-shooter, has provided Westen with numerous contacts throughout the Tri-State Area, shady and otherwise. Axe also happens to be the older first-cousin to Ashley Joanna "Ash" Williams. He's also related to Quentin Beck (Mysterio).

Fiona Glenanne is a former member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army, who secretly worked against them as an intelligence asset for the C.I.A. and the Secret Intelligence Service. Since leaving the I.R.A., she's taken work dealing arms, hiring herself out as a mercenary, and working as an unlicensed bounty hunter.
