The World Fighting Championship was first held 2025 in Thailand, with Japan's Ryu defeating Thailand's Sagat in the final. The next edition is scheduled for 2027 in Madripoor, with participants qualifying over the preceding two years.

There are no class distinctions or grade requirements. Any fighting style is welcome, so long as the fighter is human, or humanoid, and does not bring weapons into it. Exceptions to this can be made provided the opponent allows it. Metahumans are permitted, so long as they can fight as a human. This is a test of skill, not power. The winner of each match is decided by knockout.

Fighters earn their invitation to the championship by fighting opponents all over the world, constantly testing and preparing themselves for the championship. Many fighters harness their chi for devastating physical attacks, and are often on the theatrical side of things, but again, the championship is a test of skill, designed to determine the world's fighting champion.

Characters such as Grand Balrog, Michael "Mike" Bison, James "Jimmy" Blanka, Dhalsim, William Francis Guile, Thunder Hawk, Edmond Honda, Hoshi Ryu, Donald "Dee Jay" Jackson, Long Fei, Kenneth "Ken" Masters, Fabio Antonio de la Vega, Camilla "Cammy" White, Xiang Chun-Li, and Victor Zangief are appable as FCs or VFCs.
