The Dark Force behaves much the same way as the various power rings of the emotional spectrum, and while Dark Force users have been described as the Black Lantern Corps, Dark Force users are not bound by any organisation. There is no Book of the Black, and there is no Black Lantern Central Power Battery.

The Dark Force is a universal constant, like the Speed Force, and can be accessed in a multitude of ways. Some mutants can tap into this energy naturally, while normal humans may learn to call it up magically, or even technologically. Its energy is corruptive, reduces the temperature of the surrounding area, and is capable of absorbing ambient energy.
