News Files - Plagiarism

From United Heroes MUSH
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The staff of United Heroes MUSH expects players to follow acceptable standards of intellectual honesty. Applications, fingers, sheets, and most especially question answers, are evaluated on the assumption that the work being presented is the player's own work, unless designated otherwise. Plagiarism constitutes an act of intellectual dishonesty.

Whether done deliberately or accidentally, presenting someone else's work, in whole or in part, as one's own, is plagiarism, and may be grounds for a strike (see 'news player firings'). This includes copying information from websites or applications written by someone else on other games. When applying for a previously played character, players have the option of answering our questions (see 'news Getting Characters/Questions'), or composing an entirely new application.

We understand that the difference is subtle, but there is an important distinction. When retaining the approved finger and sheet of a previously played character, you are not claiming their work as your own. Instead, you are demonstrating knowledge of the character through your answers to our questions, while at the same time enjoying a greater consistency with previous players of the character.
