The Speed Force is the representation of reality in motion, being the very cosmic force that pushes space and time forward.

This source of energy has existed since the beginning of time, acting as a 3-D projection detailing past, present, and future events, of both reality, and all those touched by the Speed Force. Throughout history, the force has sought to reach out and alter those with its wondrous gifts, usually in the form of trans-dimensional plasma storms. The powers bestowed upon those touched by the Speed Force revolve around motion and progression, ranging from particle acceleration and deceleration, to potential and kinetic energy, space, and time, to name a few.

Since the Speed Force causes existence to move forward, affecting both the individual and the whole, there have been a great many that have came under its influence over the years.

Most speedsters are able to bypass the laws of physics that would ordinarily prohibit such activities. Moving at the speed of sound, for example, would usually create sonic booms. An enormous amount of energy would be required to achieve such speeds, and as some speedsters can actually move close to, or at the speed of light, this would cause them to gain near-infinite mass, according to the laws of relativity.

A solid object moving in the Earth's atmosphere at several times the speed of sound, or faster, would wreak havoc with the planet, and that moving at such speeds would prohibit speedsters from breathing, while the generated wind and friction would ravage their bodies. However, this is not the case for most speedsters.

Some speedsters may end up destroying their surroundings, or entire astronomical structures around them, by their sheer speed alone, if they are not careful enough.
