Profile

Tanis is bonded to an alien symbiote. No she didn't want it, and it turned her life upside down. But now that she's got it, she's glad to have it, proud to take down people who can't handle the bond. Venom and all your children, watch out.

Description

An unassuming mouse of a woman. She stands a touch over five and half feet tall, and lithe if not slender. She has some muscle tone but she's far from being a gym rat. Good genes maybe?

Chestnut brown hair hands to the middle of her back, and soft brown eyes that have a glint of intelligence and perhaps something more. A good looking woman, but by no means a model. Her jaw is squarish, and her features are on the plain side but when she smiles she lights up the room. She is modestly endowed and seems to take great care in dressing herself down.

That seems to be the case given her attire, with the off white blouse that cuts off mid-bicep and the plain blue jeans gracing her lack of curves. A pair of old beat up Reeboks protect her tiny feet from the floor.

History

Pre Ravencroft, Tanis's life and career are remarkably uninteresting. A studious child to not one but two medical doctor parents, it was expected that her grades be high and her career an academic one. As most kids do in that environment, she did what she was told and hit the books. A few friends in school, but not many, and none lasting. Her high school days were spent taking college courses and filling out SAT practice exam books. She graduated at 17.

College was no different. Her time was spent avoiding parties rather than seeking them, no boys in her life to speak of. Her passion was reading and studying. There was always more to learn. Pre-Med flew by in a flurry of textbook pages as far as she was concerned. In med-school she allowed herself to breathe. Having gained entrance into one of the top tier institutions of learning in the country, her parents were quietly proud, but again, it was expected. Her studying consumed her life, but she did allow for a few date nights here and there with a few boys and a few girls who found her cute enough to pursue.

After graduation, she applied and got her top choice of residency, and spent her time there pursuing knowledge, knowledge of the mind rather than of the body. Psychiatry became her focus, though neurosurgery was a close second. After her residency and now a board certified psychiatrist, she cast her net out and RavenCroft answered.

Working with some of the worst superpowered criminal minds in the world, it was her dream job. After a few months of shadowing other staff she was given a patient of her own. They never gave her his full file, preferring to keep things impersonal. That's the government for you. He was patient 8675309. She never saw his face, as they kept him muzzled like some kind of animal. But she could see his eyes. And they ranged in emotion from rage to a dispassionate apathy or even joy when asked about his victims. A previously symbiote-bonded psychopath with a love of blood, gore, and a touch of cannibalism. In the asylum his symbiote had been stripped away and was kept in the R&D wing in the basement. It was rumored they were churning out all kinds of things down there, curtesy of US Army funding. But Tanis was assigned as the primary attending for the man, and for a time, she thought she was making progress with him. A mix of meds in high dosages and talk therapy, she thought she was connecting.

She was wrong.

She was invited down to R&D to see what they were working on, and sensing it's former host nearby, perhaps smelling him on Tanis, the Symbiote went berserk, shattering it's containment vessel, killing a pair of researchers and a few fast acting guards who were too close. A slaughterhouse in the basement. Then it turned on her. Bonding with Tanis, the symbiote bound her and started closing off her airway, it's only demands that it be taken to Kassady. Reluctant, but ultimately agreeing to save her own life, Tanis went back to per patient's cell and opened it.

The symbiote abandoned her, flooding into the bound psychopaths grinning visage. In the moments that followed, Tanis was thanked for being released, her arm severed at the shoulder in a fit of psychotic rage, and the arm devoured by the insane pair now reunited. They fled down a hall, leaving her hemorrhaging on the floor. Inches from death she was found and saved by the rescue squad sweeping the place after the alarms went off.

Her wound was staunched and she was taken to the onsite infirmary. They stitched her up in emergency surgery, but missing the arm. But Ravencroft watches out for it's own and she was offered a replacement arm at no cost. A hush bribe, but she was desperate. She took it. In a 25 hour surgery the next week, she was fitted with a cybernetic receiver onto her shoulder and torso, a socket to receive the prosthetic arm they had been developing. High tech, delicate when it needed to be and impressively resilient, and they painted it to match her skin tone as well. It looked real.

But unbeknownst to her, they had been experimenting with the arm and a piece of the escaped symbiote from when they first separated it from previous host. The remainder had grown into a full grown symbiote on it's own, hidden in the arm. It erupted while she was testing out the arm, and enveloped her. The connection was near instant thanks to the hole in her side now attached to her nervous system. Two minds joined, and after a brief moment of shock, and a rush of fear, they accepted one another. Opening her eyes a few minutes later on the ground, Tanis found herself surrounded by burly men with burlier guns of every type but projectile. The symbiote on the verge of lashing out purely on instinct and self preservation, Tanis kept her head. She reassured the men and scientists that all was well from her back. When questioned, her response was only.

"I.. We.. Are Scorn."

Scorn was let up and then out, paired with Team Mercury because of her new powers. However she left RavenCroft because they wanted to strip the Symbiote from her, and experiment on it/her. She'll never let that happen. So now she runs, and fights as the case may be.

Personality

Scorn has two personalities as they are a composite being. Dr. Tanis Nieves is highly logical, analytical and almost cold. She can be friendly, but it takes effort. She didn't get where she is in her professional career by making friends. Her grades and her resume speak for itself.

The symbiote is very young, operating on instincts and genetic memories, which is why it latched onto Tanis so quickly. She was the first one there and the bond was strong.

Together, they are Scorn, and they watch out for each other. It is a true symbiosis, unlike some other Klyntar bonded individuals.

Abilities

AIRTIGHT
Tanis and her Symbiote are very tightly bonded, the 'suit' that the symbiote forms truly is a second skin. They can seal themselves from outside contaminants. Gases and liquids can be filtered out and Tanis only get the Air mixture she needs. If need be, the symbiote will reinforce the material around Tanis's face and head and filter out water to let her breathe underwater.

CAMOUFLAGE
The symbiote's dermis is capable of great change. Color, texture, and shape. This means that Scorn can hide with the best of them, blending into her surroundings nearly perfectly. However she has to remain stiff to preserve the illusion. If she moves she's just hard to see.

DURABILITY
Scorn can change the density of her symbiote self at will, meaning she can become resistant to small arms fire for short periods of time. That being said, she'd MUCH rather employ other means to defending herself. Like ripping the door off a car to catch bullets instead.

ENHANCED AGILITY
Again due in part to alien semi-liquid physiology and genetic memory spider powers, Scorn is highly agile. Because of the bond, the symbiote receives the nervous system signals even as her own body does and reacts. This means she moves like a trained dancer. Or a gymnastic prodigy. Not quite on Spiderman's level, but that is a human limitation. She simply doesn't have the level of muscle and tendon elasticity as he does.

ESP
A derivative of the original Spider-Man's Spider-Sense, this ability is a natural warning system to danger, as well as the symbiotes natural sensory powers and spacial awareness. It is small and localized to her, and only covers immediate threats to herself. Makes it very hard to sneak up on her and further enhances her agility as she senses the threats before she can see them.

A side effect of this ability, and her kinship with the Venom symbiote, she enjoys the same invisibility to Spider-Man's Spider Sense as the other symbiotes. His senses seem to register the symbiotes as "Self".

GENETIC MEMORY
Genetic Memory- As with all Klyntar symbiotes, this retains the genetic memories of past hosts. Because of the circumstances surrounding Spider-Man and the 'Black Suit'. The long time those two spend bonded and the stress and adrenalin, the arachnid powers are very strong within Venoms Family tree.

However, being two generations removed, she has fuzzy memories of Black Suit Spiderman or Venom battles, but no personal info. Vague feelings of familiarity with Peter and Eddie or their immediate friends and family but that's all.

Carnage is a different story and she can get flashes of clear memory if she concentrates or is highly stressed. The downside to this is most memories of Carnage are bathed in blood.

HEALING FACTOR
Thanks to the symbiote, Tanis enjoys a low-level healing factor. This dramatically increased her operational effectiveness and eliminates small wounds very rapidly. Cuts and bruises heal over the course of 20-30 minutes. Gashes and lacerations around an hour. Bones set and heal in around a day. However, this regeneration is limited to keeping the body whole. It can do nothing to repair Tanis's missing arm.

The Symbiote itself enjoys a much greater healing factor. Damage or missing parts of its mass, can be regenerated with the consumption of protein. Freezing and shattering it, or acid or fire work well to damage the symbiote itself. UHF Sonic weapons can disrupt the Symbiote cohesion and rip it apart. This hurts the Symbiote and can be used to force it to abandon it's host.

SHAPESHIFT
Like other symbiotes, Scorn's can shapeshift her form at will. Becoming her 'costume' or becoming clothing or disguises, anything Tanis might require, including melee weaponry.

Being that she never takes off her 'suit' it incorporates into her daily life. It can mimic her missing arm and even gets her skin tone right. Those that know her assume she's wearing a prosthetic arm. Those that don't never know the difference. It's natural color is a light purple.

STAMINA
With the Symbiote bonded to her, on her and in her, Tanis's body is kept cleaned of the natural toxins that build up. Like lactic acid in the muscles. Add to this, that most of the physical work is being done by the symbiote, Tanis can work or fight for a full day before needing to rest. In addition, the symbiote can augment her bodies need for air, allowing her to hold her breathe up to 6-8 minutes at a time.

SUPERSTRENGTH
Partly because of the symbiote's physiology, able to increase its own mass, density and effect muscle fibers, and partly due to the 'spider powers' genetic memory, Scorn is vastly stronger that she appears. While other symbiotes beat her because of increased mass, Scorn is in the 10 ton range.

SYMBIOTE
Symbiote- Tanis only has powers because she is bonded to a Klyntar Symbiote. This symbiote is a 'child' of the Carnage symbiote, granddaughter to the infamous Venom Symbiote. It came into existence when RavenCroft doctors found and began experimenting on a piece of the Carnage symbiote left behind after a particularly vicious battle. The short story is it got loose and bonded to Tanis.

WALLCRAWLING
Scorn is capable of crawling on walls and ceilings. She has conscious control over this ability, and it is simple and instinctive for her to use. She can choose any part of her own body to cling with. Primarily her hands and feet, but she can cling with her back to free up both hands. The strength of attraction between herself and the surface she is clinging to is considerable, with an upper limit of 1500 pounds per fingertip roughly. If Scorn does not willingly detach, but is pulled off by force, the surface usually breaks, still attached to her body.

WEBBING

Thanks to the Spider-Man host a few generations back, the symbiotes learned how to generate organic webbing very chemically similar to the artificial stuff Parker uses. Extremely adhesive, and with a tensile strength around a quarter million pounds per strand, few beings can break free.

Skills

COMBAT
Tanis is by no means a natural born fighter. She relies heavily on the capabilities of her symbiote to make up for her lack of ferocity. With her alien given powers however she's a helluva fighter, never staying put and using her superior agility and wall crawling to come at her opponents from all angles. She's much better at the stealth thing.

MILITARY
Tanis was drafted into Team Mercury because of her symbiote and while powerful, the human hosts often leave something to be desired in the combat area. So she's been given basic training in marksmanship with rifles and pistols, and trained in knifework. Tactics, radio equipment, field first aid (because med school was a long time ago) and how to read GPS and a map and compass.

PSYCHIATRY
Tanis Nieves is a genuine Medical Doctor. Went to a top medical school, graduated Magna Cum Laude of her class. Had her pick of assignments after residency. She chose Ravencroft. She chose badly.

As part of her Pre-Med, then Med school she took a wide variety of courses, and is skilled in several fields.

Biology- Tanis is well versed in how the human body works.

Anatomy- Kinda goes with being a doctor, but given her new role as a military agent, it means she is even better at keeping people alive.. or taking them out as the case may be.

Pharmacology- She's not a pharmacist, but she writes the scripts they fill. She knows what drugs do what in what dosages, to the human body.

Lab work- She's been in or around a lab for years in med school, she knows her way around a microscope.

Psychology- Tanis has been trained in the trauma field of psychology, meaning she is trained to handle the crazies. Or using their psychosis against them.

Resources

MERCURY TEAM
Tanis is a member of a covert ops group comprised solely of humans from across the various branches of the US military that have been forcibly bonded to Klyntar symbiotes for military purposes. They have been tasked with all manner of black operations, but their primary focus is combating and containing rogue Symbiotes and their hosts.

They have access to any and all high end military ordinance, vehicles and weaponry.

PROSTHETIC ARM

Tanis lost her right arm to an inmate of Ravencroft house and was given a high tech prosthetic replacement, by the R&D boys in the basement. Little did she know it housed the Spawn of the Carnage symbiote. The arm is top of the line, and with highly sensitive sensors, reacts to the neural signals of her brain just like her home-grown arm. Crafted from composite ceramics with a Titanium core, it's highly durable, even without the symbiote helping. However, as advanced as it is, it can't hold a candle to the abilities of the symbiote she's bonded to. So, it sits in a sock drawer at home.

Weaknesses

ACID
Highly caustic substances can eat at the symbiotes self and is VERY hard to regenerate and is terrifying to boot. It can force even tightly bonded symbiotes to abandon their host to save themselves.

AMPUTEE
Tanis lost her right arm from the shoulder down a couple years ago, she has a metal socket where her arm used to be. If she ever lost her Symbiote she'd be at a severe disadvantage.

HEAT
Klyntar symbiotes have several glaring weaknesses and Fire is one of them. Fire is VERY hard to regenerate and is terrifying to boot. It can force even tightly bonded symbiotes to abandon their host to save themselves.

RAVENCROFT
Being that the institute 'created' the symbiote, they have been hounding Tanis since she left. They see the symbiote as their property and will seek to reclaim it at all costs. Even if they end her life to do it.

SONIC

Ultra High Frequency or very high volume can generate a resonance within the symbiote that will tear the symbiote apart. It loses cohesion and makes it hard to maintain it's bond. This effect has been exploited a lot over the years to separate symbiotes from their hosts.
